Titian Sacred And Profane.jpg

Sacred And Profane Love
Titian

The original is a Trigglypuffian (See below the fold) four feet tall and nine feet wide, so rendering it on a screen is difficult. If you have a reasonable monitor I highly recommend clicking on the image to see a larger and more impressive version.

This comment was Willowed but important...

Really, if the thought of using nuclear weapons is unthinkable, why do we have them?

Nukes don't destroy the earth if exploded. They effectively kill a bunch of people in a certain radius. They were a good way to keep the USSR from flooding across the border with their tanks into Western Europe.

If the choice with a country like North Korea is either send in a few hundred thousand of our troops or push the button on a half dozen nukes, I'll go with the nukes.

They are just explosives like any other kind, just more compact.

106 So, this morning CNN ran a story about a young muslim woman who is competing on the USA fencing team and is wearing her hajib. She wears one of those stretchy ones that wraps around her head and therefore, fits neatly under her fencing mask.

All that is fine.

But since this is CNN, the story devoted 1 minute to how she grew up as a conservative muslim, wearing long pants and sleeves and the hajib, her mom suggested she try competing in fencing because the sport requires the same type of full coverage clothing for obvious reasons.

But they then showcased her tweets she sent out after Trumps comments in January about banning Muslim immigration here, etc. The tweets expressed how appalled she was. Camerota asked her how she now felt about Trump and she hemmed and hawed and said she was scared, because she is...African American and a Muslim and where could she go when the rhetoric turns violent.

CNN then added that when she was growing up, people would stare at her and make comments and threats.
Uh huh.

CNN called her in Rio this week to ask her again about Trump. She told them she was training and didn't want to be distracted.

1.CNN is so obvious in their attempt to gin up the Trump/Muslim thing

2. Maybe Miss Muslim athlete should think about what Trump said and what he wants to do. I've got news for you honey, the jihadis wouild come for you first, because they believe you are apostate in your participation in sports and speaking on camera. You need to really realize who you should be afraid of, and it's not Trump. Trump's trying to keep the Jihadi's out.

Nicholas Young, who has served with the department since 2003, was arrested Wednesday morning by FBI agents. He is alleged to have tried sending money to ISIS via mobile-based gift cards using a messaging service.

An alleged transaction redeemed by the FBI in July was for $245.

Young is set to appear in court Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Camerota was doing her job on Fox and now she is doing her job on CNN. I think most of these reporters shape the news. Rush had a segment on his show a while back about how news rooms have meetings daily to discuss what stories they are going to run and what the desired frame and direction the story should take.

It's why every single cable news outlet, including Fox, should be looked at with suspicion and their stories not embraced until you have researched other sources and confirmed the story. Which almost always will prove the cable news story was either patently false, or quite misleading.

Fox and Friends in the AM is becoming unwatchable for news. This morning, while CNN was running a segment in which Trumps spokesperson, Pierson was debating a Democrat operative over yet again, the Khan situation, Fox and Friends was running a segment promoting the kitten olympics being run this weekend on the Hallmark channel. The hosts were playing with kittens in this model olympic stadium.

Brian Kilmeade has become virtually impossible to even understand what point he is trying to make. He looks very uncomfortable on the couch and like he can't wait to get out of there.

187 From the downstairs thread.

Well, here's a feel good story....

John Conyers won his primary contest last night to represent Detroit and southern and western Wayne county in the House of Representatives. He beat out his challenger, a 58 year old black woman who has served as Detroit City Clerk.

Conyers is 87 years old and has been in Congress for.....50 years.

Since Detroit will not elect any republican to any seat for any reason, Conyers is assured of winning his house seat again. Unless he dies first.

A voter was interviewed last night about why she was voting for Conyers. She said because he is all she has ever known. She didn't know this other woman.

And apparently, didn't care to find out anything about her. Another voter said that she thought Winfrey, the opposition candidate, had done some "shady" things while she was in Detroit Gov.

She must thing Conyers, whose wife was imprisoned for theft in office and taking bribes, and whose combined assets with John are in bankruptcy territory vs. what they owe, are "not" shady.

The Dems, in response to Trump's remarks on the Khan family kerfluffle, have started handing out pocket Constitutions.

I hope they realize that the 2nd Amendment is... well... the second amendment in the Constitution and they can't really be promoting the whole thing without (however inadvertently) promoting the 2nd Amendment.

I'll vote for Trump, but in contrast to Team NeverTrump, that's the ONLY vote I'll cast. Down ballot "Republicans" can go fuck themselves. And any other candidate for the rest of time that associates with the GOP can do the same.

Caught a "Botched" episode last night. Mama June of "Honey Boo Boo" fame, has lost 153 pounds working with a personal trainer (and not living in a trailer in the south anymore). She still needs to lose 75 more pounds before the docs on the show will do surgery to remove her...panulus. She has a giant pocket of skin hanging over her frontal crotch area , and it is chronically irritated, etc.

She looks significantly better. The scary thing is that her kids, Pumpkin and Honey Boo Boo, are both obese. They will fight that obesity the rest of their lives, and I don't think it will be easy for them to lose or maintain.

Missouri Republicans nominated a Democrat for Governor yesterday. Kansas Republicans rejected a small government Congressman with integrity, because farmers didn't feel he was supporting their desire for more government goodies.

On a positive note, in my little community we nominated for both state House and Senate, newcomers who look good. Missouri relies on small government types in the General Assembly to keep the big government statewide nitwits from both Parties at bay.

I will continue to support those folks. But the statewide offices? Screw them all.

It's not effective. Most people are not going to lose weight because someone is mean to them. That will just depress them, which is counterproductive. And of course, people should be kind regardless.

249 Camerota was doing her job on Fox and now she is doing her job on
CNN. I think most of these reporters shape the news. Rush had a segment
on his show a while back about how news rooms have meetings daily to
discuss what stories they are going to run and what the desired frame
and direction the story should take.

It's why every single cable news outlet, including Fox, should be
looked at with suspicion and their stories not embraced until you have
researched other sources and confirmed the story. Which almost always
will prove the cable news story was either patently false, or quite
misleading.

Fox and Friends in the AM is becoming unwatchable for news. This
morning, while CNN was running a segment in which Trumps spokesperson,
Pierson was debating a Democrat operative over yet again, the Khan
situation, Fox and Friends was running a segment promoting the kitten
olympics being run this weekend on the Hallmark channel. The hosts were
playing with kittens in this model olympic stadium.

Brian Kilmeade has become virtually impossible to even understand
what point he is trying to make. He looks very uncomfortable on the
couch and like he can't wait to get out of there.

Posted by: Jen the original at August 03, 2016 10:32 AM (NNq1n)
--I think you're right. But, frankly, who the hell has the time to research and run down the primary sources on each breaking story? The news "media" is supposed to do this job. Hell, I'd even pay to subscribe to a news media service that I knew was providing well-sourced factual information, without opinion or a "narrative." I just want to know what is going on.The AP can't really be trusted not to put their opinions in. Neither can Reuters. Not the alphabet networks. Not cable news. Not newspapers. One would think that there would be a market opening for this kind of service. But, maybe not. Maybe people just want their "infotainment," so that they can go about their day thinking that they are informed, while not having to think too hard for themselves.

I"ve occasionally caught episodes on either TLC or Nat Geo of grossly obese people who are in the process of medically supervised weight loss.

I think they typically go by the title, "My 600 lb. Life".
There is nothing healthy or empowering for anyone to be obese. These people often haven't left their home for years because they can't walk, they can't fit in cars, etc. They can't breathe. They can't use toilets. They can't bathe.

It's remarkable and it always includes the enablers.

Not enough brain bleach!

Rush raised an interesting question after Bill's walk down memory lane at the DNC: when Bill and Hill met it was a great time for feminists - breaking down barriers, trailblazing all over the place. Which makes one wonder: why did Hillary not strike out on her own (like a fish not needing a bicycle) and trail blaze - why did she instead choose to go the traditional route of marriage, and worse, moved to a southern state and play the traditional political spouse?

If she was capable of getting strange like Yoko, then WTF was she doing with Bill in AK?

346 One thing I've learned from studying up to prepare for the family law
faction as a father with children, psychopaths can sense each other and
work to protect each other.

Now you know why you find so many of them in the law and in government in general; the sane people create a system to control psychopaths, and the psychopaths work endlessly to be in charge of that system.

By the way, that "blind justice" statue is a little inside psychopathic joke that they get, and we don't; they have justice hoodwinked.

It was dying...badly.

Chernobyl basically exposed that the bear was a headcase.....

It came out in 1988 Germany was two years from reunification, The USSR 3 years from death.

It was a good film, but the cold war was running pretty cold by 1988....

"WW3" was closest to reality in 1972-1983 every year after 83 had the Soviets in a declining strategic position and they KNEW it.

When Reagan was brave enough to walk away at Reykjavik Gorby knew the gig was up.....

He had blown his discretionary capital on the Liquidators' war on Chernobyl....

The fear was *maybe* Ivan would escalate the conflict in a tantrum but by October it was becoming evident the Soviet people were tired of being lied to constantly by their government and wanted change.

The original Miracle Mile script, which featured a bunch of people in a diner talking about an impending nuclear armageddon, was written as a segment for the original Twilight Zone movie, didn't make the final cut, and was then developed into its own movie.

So when it was written, the Cold War was a little warmer than it was when the USSR was winding down in the late 80s.

If she thinks she's just wasting time sitting a tree stand, well that's just boring, isn't it.

434 So is this a real thing?

Reports are that some "Republicans" are actively exploring how to remove Trump from the ticket. Sources say Rince is apoplectic over Teh Donald's refusal to endorse Pauline Ryan or Johnny "Nothing to fear" McCain.

Seems as if thought Trump would have to recuse himself in order for this to happen. Then they could install Mittens or Jeb! to run against the Creature from the Arkansas Lagoon.

If only slightly true, you're still looking at Trump vs the World. GOPe may not actively harm his campaign, but they ain't about to help him.

I don't know how good the polls are regardless of which way they go...

These are numbers being put through weighting and models from 2008 and 2012. They rely on the old rules and not the new reality of Trump and the groups that align with him.

It's going to be a guessing game from here on in.

Not necessarily - if you think the Bernie voters are going to stay home, you wouldn't include them in the sample because they aren't likely voters.

But that's a good question though - what WILL the Bernie voters do? Will they stay home? Will they vote party? Will they protest vote? Who knows?

Interesting part to me is that #161;
Jeb! was guaranteed to lose, but all the GOP Establishment sinecures would have remained in place, so the graft would flow.

Trump might just win, but could upset the "established" flow of graft, so the GOPe would rather lose and have a socialist criminal in charge of the country even though it is clear we will never recover from a Clinton presidency.
