Decoding the 2016 Republican National Convention Seating Chart

The arrangements appear to be chiefly determined by who won the state's Republican primary. States won by nomination winner Donald Trump, like New York and California, received prime seating for their delegates, while states that voted for other nominees, including Texas, are stuck in the nosebleeds.

Updated schedule of the RNC speakers is up.

Have to say, doesn't really look that different from past conventions in prime time on the big nights. Just fewer grasping pols in the scrub slots, which is no great loss:

Also, Ivanka is Trump's lead-in to his acceptance speech, which is delightful.

14 The Governor is right saying no way to the Cops trying to ban open carry at the convention.

While in a way I can understand why the Cops wanted to ask, it is the Law of the State and if it can be "suspended" for this one time and place, precedent says it could be permanently revoked at any time in the future.

30 An interesting excerpt from the response sent to my email for the petition on We The People to designate BLM as a terrorist organization:

"As part of these conversations, the President directly addressed the concern that the "Black Lives Matter" slogan, social media movement, and the associated protests are somehow inherently anti-police:

"I know that there are some who have criticized even the phrase 'black lives matter,' as if the notion is, is that other lives don't matter. And so you get 'all lives matter' or 'blue lives matter.' I understand the point they're trying to make. I think it's important for us to also understand that the phrase 'black lives matter' simply refers to the notion that there's a specific vulnerability for African Americans that needs to be addressed. It's not meant to suggest that other lives don't matter. It's to suggest that other folks aren't experiencing this particular vulnerability."

Nothing but hooey and more hooey after that!...phrase...slogan..yeah...

In movie news:

Lionsgate and Beijing-based film company Leomus Pictures are set to co-produce a Chinese-language spinoff of magician thriller franchise Now You See Me.

Lionsgate and Leomus have good reason to be optimistic about the prospects for a Chinese-language addition to the franchise. In June, the sequal Now You See Me 2 debuted to $43.3 million in China, nearly double its bow in North America ($23 million). After three weeks on Chinese screens, Now You See Me 2 has earned $94.5 million:

104 From the "Gay Methodis Bishop" link -

"The Western district of the Methodist
church has elected an openly gay bishop despite the denomination's ban
on same-sex relationships.

The Rev. Karen Oliveto was elected late Friday night
at a meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona, of the church's Western
Jurisdiction. Oliveto is pastor of Glide Memorial United Methodist
Church in San Francisco. She is the first openly gay bishop in the 12.7
million-member denomination."

This is wrong on a number of levels. First, the Scriptures teach that a leader in the church is to be above reproach, And that all Christians are to maintain sexual purity outside of a marriage relationship. Thirdly, she defied the rules and the authority of the denomination she claims to serve. In other words, she is in rebellion against her own church. Anyone in that state should be removed from leadership. Gays, lesbians, transgenders, what-have-you should be welcomed in the church, but they should not be leading the flock.

I'm sure there are other theological points I have failed to list but I'm only on my first cup of coffee.

The Western Jurisdiction of the UMC-which includes left coast areas such as Portland and includes any states west of Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and AZ is the most liberal of the US Conferences in my opinion. they are also losing members by the boatload and are not self supporting. See link from the conservative Episcopal stye. The woman is nutty but hardly a surprise that she was selected there. Im more upset that in a photo she's holding up a sign saying. "We are all Muslims now" or that she criticizes Paul for casting a demon out of a slave girl because the woman couldn't then earn a living at fortune telling!!. Does that mean I support UMs in flouting church discipline in ordaining a woman as a Bishop who's gay? No' I mean that that UMs are following the unhappy trajectory of the Episcopal Church in some of their decisions. Other Conferences are already challenging this

127 With 8 cops dead and many more wounded in just the last two weeks, plus many more over the last two years by BLM slogan spouters, I thought I'd take a look at white supremacist cop killings.

One source, the Anti Defamation League, struggled to come up with 20 criminal acts by white supremacists over the period of 2009 to 2012, none of which involved killing a cop.

Two Vegas cops were killed by a white supremacist couple in 2014.

Frankly, overall the pickings were mighty slim. And I'm dead nuts certain that any cases would have received heavy press, like the Vegas event.

Something to ponder.

They allowed the 'occupy' movement to take over national parks and monuments for months, disrupting the lives of possibly millions of people and causing millions in damage while shrugging off violent crimes, rapes, what have you, yet the murder a rancher for occupying an obscure government shack.

175 Erdogan makes Obama look competent (sorta). The guy is a head case and is at least as narcissistic as Obama. He's probably only slightly ahead of Obama in the megalomania department. But he is loved by most Turks, or he certainly seems to be. Just like Obama.

To some of us, I think, this is hard to come to grips with. But I think I may have some idea what might be going on.

People, mainly conservative types, seem to internally believe that freedom and liberty are widely desired ideals. I'm pretty certain that this belief would not hold up to historical scrutiny. Freedom and liberty are historically, pretty rare, pretty unusual phenomena through history, I think and by and large, not all that aspired to. It's just easier to have one's life decisions made by those to whom wisdom and power have been imputed to make them, I think. That is, by far, the more common model.

When crises, and change, and a whole raft of other complications complicate life and when futures are in doubt, responsibility becomes such a heavy burden.

Better to have responsibility taken up by those who desire to possess it.

I think an examination of history would bear out that it has only ever been a tiny minority who have desired freedom and liberty for their own lives. For the vast majority, freedom and liberty are just too stressful.

That is what Erdogan in Turkey and Obama in America are proof of, I think, and with them BLM, social justice warriors, unrestricted immigration, etc. etc.

1. No, I'm NOT supporting these assholes in any way shape or form.
2. There are some hate crimes mixed in there, most notably the 9 black church goers killed by Dylan Roof and also the killing of 6 in a mosque in Detroit.
3. A lot of the crimes were white prison gang members doing things like drug dealing and other thug stuff. And yeah, some hate killings as well. I'm not downplaying their evil.

But I do think it notable that the media hasn't seized on comparisons to white hate groups, probably because it is no contest.

207 ...I dont understand this hatred of the film from the time they announced they were going to make it.

You probably still won't understand, but...

1. It's a remake of a classic, always fodder for negative anticipation.

2. It's a "let's put wimmen in the men's roles" switcheroo, for no reason other than to do so, likewise fodder for ridicule.

3. It's Hollywood 2016 with nobody as big-name as Ackroyd or Murray. Why expect anything good?

It may actually turn out to be funny, somewhat - I'll watch it when it's "available" maybe, out of curiosity, and I'll try to compartmentalize the remake/feminize/ripoff aspects so as to see it as its own thing - but I have low expectations. But, then, I watched GB2 and even some of the cartoons when the kids were young. Slimer! Hahaha, huh, kids!

Posted by: Mary Poppins' Practically Perfect Piercing at July 18, 2016 09:15 AM (X6fMO)

He's not the only one. All the people who were certain that Trump would never last more than one month in the primary and who would be happy to inform anyone listening that Trump was just about to say something that would cost him the primary, are making the same totally baseless claim. They are also the same people claiming that Trump will be some sort of dictator - another totally baseless claim made out of whole cloth to buttress their continuing, ever-wrong predictions.

No one takes them seriously. It's clear that it's just the fever talking.

241 Cleveland to 'process' a thousand arrests a day.

First, you have to understand the 'process'. These professional street protesters get free legal training from their sponsoring organization. The protestors are told exactly what they can do, and not do, and exactly how far they have to go to get arrested.

Secondly, once arrested, they get free legal representation, paid by the same sponsoring organization that pays them to 'protest'.

Third, their lawyers plea bargin the charges down to some misdeamor, six months probation, and if the 'protester' is not arrested during that time, the charges are expunged, as if they never happened.

Fourth, 'being arrested' is a badge of honor with professional street protesters for 'standing up to the man'.

The whole thing is a farce, to generate news headlines, and frighten the rubes in fly over country. This racket has been going on for fifty years now.

And fifth, the police are handcuffed. You have seen the dramatic news photos of stone faced Law Enforcement Officers standing shoulder to shoulder while profession street protesters scream insults, standing nose to nose, posing for the photojournalists who are hoping for a Pulitzer Prize Winning photo. If the professional protesters can not provoke the police into making arrests, they escalate the level of violence. It's all about getting a picture of that bloody shirt, that bloody face, and some innocent bystander being oppressed by the tools of the white supremacists.

243 Before Dallas, the record for most cops killed by an individual was held by Maurice Clemmons, famously given clemency on his 108 year sentence by AR gubner Mike Fuckabee in 2000:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maurice_Clemmons

Racking up an additional 8 felony charges after his release, and being out on $150k bail after being charged with assaulting a cop and raping a child, Maurice gunned down 4 cops in a diner in Parkland WA.

247 8,000 police arrested in Turkey puts me in the "false flag" group. When a group *on Erdogan's side* has the largest number of arrests I'm guessing he is getting rid of any allies who proved not to be sufficiently enthusiastic along with having an excuse to dispose of enemies.

That's $46 million against a $150 million budget + whatever the marketing cost is. It's not even $46 million because the theaters get a cut. Let's call it, to be generous, $40 million. The cut the theaters get goes up each week. Add it that China will not show it and it is not going to recoup its money. The trend over the weekend was down which is a bad sign.

People hated on it because the trailers were horrible and it is a reboot of a film that geeks love. Sony actually deleted reasoned comments and left the women hating ones alone. Then Feig and Sony went all "women hating losers hate this film" to try and protect themselves. Very little of this was about women. Geeks tend to like women heroines.

249 Re: Western Methodist districts electing openly gay bishop.

First, having an openly gay pastor is in violation of UM church doctrine. Apparently this has been ignored by the greater UMC councils , either hoping it goes away or results in more members-money, so therefore is worth ignoring.

I have also read The American Conservative 's reporting of her sermons, including the one about the demonic possession, etc.

Again, people are getting stuck on what she says, and are shocked she is preaching against church and bible teachings. Instead of realizing that her openly gay lifestyle, in complete conflict of church and biblical teaching, is the biggest middle finger to the church. Why should anything she says from the pulpit be shocking?

It' s like leaving the front door unlocked and open to criminals, then being shocked when they are in your house stealing your stuff and threatening your family.

252 Decoding the 2016 Republican National Convention Seating Chart

The
arrangements appear to be chiefly determined by who won the state's
Republican primary. States won by nomination winner Donald Trump, like
New York and California, received prime seating for their delegates,
while states that voted for other nominees, including Texas, are stuck
in the nosebleeds.
