Looking back, it would have been far more interesting if the Humans had been chosen to be the Shadow's champions in the war. It would have fit the universe better anyways.

On tripods. It was hilarious watching them chew up/disintegrate (almost instantly) the target stands (wood pieces holding up the cardboard backer). They had to use something, and they didn't bring any special targets. The lieutenant sort of apologized, and we laughed and said it was just fine.
Also probably mentioned that every now and then I can hear the sweet distinctive mechanical sound of the Ma Deuces firing at a Marine range a few miles from the house.

Neat part is that they are threatening legal action requiring the AG to clarify how one's "identity" is defined. The "concern" is that there seems to be a potential argument that since the sex on one's birth certificate apparently is not really definitive thus I can use whatever bathroom I want to, then why can't I similarly identify as a female (or Pacific Islander, etc.) and be eligible to enter my company for government minority set-aside contracts? Why, since the sex listed on the birth certificate is redefinable by the way I feel today, can't I similarly decide that I feel like I'm sixty five and want to enroll in Medicare and start withdrawing funds from my IRA without penalty? At the other end of the age spectrum, why can't a sixteen year old say "Bartender, I know I look like I'm sixteen, but I identify as twenty-one so serve me a beer! "

As for work, while the changes are stressful, they are good changes. Will talk about them in the future if things come to fruition. Basically, the company is planning on moving most of production/RD to TX from CA. I am supposedly to have a major part in the new RD department. We shall see.

We had a really rough winter. No work for Mr DG's business from December through February or so. But, things have picked up thank God. Still gonna make the move...hell, have to make the move. As an only child, I have no choice. Not looking forward to moving into Blue territory, but lots of cheap land and proximity to the beach (in addition to parental monitoring) is a huge draw.

It was extremely hip and edgy during it's run. Actual stories that you needed to pay attention to understand. Drug cartels and the drug scene in Miami was very relevant at the time, and the show capitalized on that. Lots of $$$.
Don Johnson started a trend in men's fashion that no one had really done before, the suit jacket over a T-shirt. The clothes on the show were high end couture for men, and most of it not something other than a young athletic type could pull off.
They were NBC's answer to the CBS's phenom at the time, Magnum PI. Magnum and co. had the war buddies from Vietnam and a WWII vet , for story lines, that took place in a gorgeous tropical location. $$$, including the red Ferrari 308 Magnum drove, which was new and eye candy to a lot of viewers.
Miami Vice's Crockett (who often posed as a drug dealer) drove a Ferrari Daytona Spider replica, then Testarrosa's when Ferrari finally agreed to provide the real cars for the show. Since the story lines revolved around rich drug dealers, etc. the lineup of cars on Miami Vice, not to mention gorgeous real estate and women in bikinis had a lot of draw.

Nah, no culture shock. After 32 years in Philly and 10 years in Texas, I can mix the two. Slower Lower Delaware has always been my second home anyway, since we started camping there when I was a baby and my folks moved there permanently almost 20 years ago.
No job lined up. As morbid as it sounds, we have to wait until the FIL passes before any moves are made. No point in lining anything up yet, although thanks to the new ACA NHS regulations, his doctors have given him no more than 3 years to live.
Regardless, by that time, I'm hoping we can make it with me working PT and Mr DG doing starting up some other business, but we shall see. We have to go....how we afford it will be up to God.

I found out today that the company I used to work for as a consultant has opened a new office in CT. From what I can ascertain, they created the office specifically for the guy that the partner I worked for called "a lazy pathological liar who would rather sit home, watch porn and play video games." He gets an office. I went the extra mile and am an honest, hard worker. I got called names and had to quit.
Plus, due to cost cutting, I have had to give up my lawn service, and every week deal with a pinched nerve in my neck from mowing. That makes me cranky and angry at them all over again. Weekly.
/yes, I am a Big Girl and know Life is Not Fair. I just wish life would not smack me in the face with it so blatantly.

The accident happened in real time, but it was slow mo from my perspective. I somehow got out when cars in front of, behind me and next to me were involved.
Turned around and went home. Kissed the driveway when I got home. I understand the wreck fcuked up Atlanta rush hour traffic big time.

Heh. I remember when I had my first security interview when I got out of the USAF. In the USAF, every 5 years, I'd talk to some former battle axe jarhead for an update on the clearance. When I got out I got a job requiring a TS, which I had held while in the USAF. Anyway, I went to the interview and looked for an old battle axe and instead saw a young lady with super model looks. It was distracting, in a good way. Not what I was expecting. She was married, sadly.

You just reminded me of some vermin I worked with. Back in 2003 I did serious collections on home mortgage loans- I lasted 6 months.
Many two word conversations with the delinquent- the second word was "you".
All but 3 of the 2 dozen plus people I worked with were scum. The others I would have tossed gasoline on if they were on fire.
One in particular liked to keep a daily running tally of the people he made cry. He really seemed to get off on it. Another had me thinking he might come in and try to kill everyone as he had serious anger issues.
Another was a textbook narcissist.
The ironic thing is my boss from that place is now my subordinate at my current job.

If that doesn't happen, Partner 1 is headed towards death from a massive heart attack (had his first one last year at age 49 and has made no life changes) and Partner 2 will eventually have his wife and kids leave him and be stuck with tons of child support.
And if those things don't happen, they'll eventually have to answer to their deeds in the afterlife.
/there better be an afterlife with judgement. As a Catholic, I was promised lots of judgement.

I never watched the show when it was on. But one thing that always surprises me, whenever people post clips of it, is that it holds up pretty well. For a 80s drama show, it could be a hell of a lot more campy. The acting's good, and show doesn't feel that dated.

Get 'em to set it all up in a Revokable Trust, with you (if you're the Big Cheese Executor) as the Trustee.
This means that the Oldsters go ahead and re-title all of the property....house, cars, other goods, etc., to The Trust, which then reverts to the Trustee(s) upon their passing.

BTW, here's something you should ALL do. Most states come into the possession of property that is deemed 'abandoned'. What sometimes happens when someone passes away is that things get 'lost' or overlooked. Sometimes it is dividend checks that were undeliverable, sometimes a forgotten bank account, etc.
Try searching something like "Iowa Unclaimed Property", and see if your state has a web site.
I know that NC, SC, and GA all have such sites. A week ago, I found my own name on the NC list, and reclaimed $468. I have no idea where it came from, most likely a forgotten bank account.

There was also a great episode of St. Elsewhere where, in a dream, the doctor played by Christopher Morse (Mr. Sensitive Guy of the 1980s era) found out a friend of his actually *was* a mysterious "ski mask" rapist who was terrorizing the hospital months earlier. VERY spooky, the way it was done.

Although - geek alert - that was my favorite mechwarrior design in the video games. Load them up with machine guns and ammo. No heat problems, and you chew up the target with all those guns so they die fast. Ran into some problems with long multiple-combat missions though, running out of ammo. Just need some reloads and it would have been perfect.

50 pounds is less than 500, so it'd be fine. I figured that it would take significant effort to put even 200 pounds into your vehicle, so I'd give you a number that would make it clear I wasn't going to sweat the small stuff if you grabbed a whole bunch. I could have made the same point by saying, "I'll make XXX offer for anything you can get into your car in one load without a hoist."
Get stuff for yourself, first, and put it in your car. Take another run for good stuff that I can use that you can comfortably get to your car. 30 pounds or 300, I'm good for it.

Here's something that even Stat-Geeks Weird-Out over...
If a pitcher goes six innings and gives up three runs, it is considered a "Quality Start". That means a 4.50 ERA. (Earned Run Average).
A pitcher's ERA is "What he would give-up during a nine-inning outing."
It is considered a "Quality Start" because only one-third of the League averages more than 4.5 Runs per game.
So...
Pitcher's ERA:
4.50- average *meh*
4.00- #4 Starter
3.50- #2 Starter
3.00- #1 Starter/ "Ace"
Under 3.00 is a League Ace and probably on his way to the Hall of Fame.

Yup. Ryan threw his seventh no-hitter in 1991 at the age of 44. He hung it up for good in 1993.
Seven no-hitters but he never threw a perfect game.
