Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is sharpening his opposition to the small core of conservatives willing to risk a government shutdown to defund Planned Parenthood.

"The cold hard reality for those who dont support Planned Parenthood is that we need a president who has a similar view and would sign our bill," McConnell told reporters Wednesday, while repeatedly pledging to find a way to fund the government.

Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), who wrote the Senates bill to defund Planned Parenthood last month, said she would not automatically reject a government spending bill if it includes money for the organization. "We cant base it on one item or another, because we're going to have many, many important items. Its about priorities and looking ahead," she said.

126 "Grief Bacon" LOL

I don't know that people tend to eat bacon when they're in grief or emotional distress. Maybe BLTs but I think carbs and chocolate might be more likely.

Speck means fat as well as bacon. Kummerspeck is the weight you put on when you eat too much because you're grieving or generally bummed out.

Kummer is grief and several other versions of sadz. It's usually used in the term Liebeskummer, or heartbreak.

So Kummerspeck is the 10 lbs. a girl puts on after breaking up with her boyfriend.

130 Here is the comment that I decided not to put up a couple of days ago (because I'm gonna get roasted like a peanut for saying it.)

I'm a product of the 60's. And when the Cosby drugging women for sex story came out, I wasn't one of the people who thought he was necessarily a monster.

When I was in high school, quaaludes were just becoming popular with young miscreants (as I remember somebody telling me). Girls seemed to like them more than the guys and they loved having sex while on them.

Here was the process: Take some "ludes"; Have sex; Wreck your car.

The number of people who wrecked their cars while on ludes was... a lot.

But anyway, Crosby might have drugged some of those women against their knowledge. That's a possibility. But not all of those women took those drugs against their will.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

It is a fairly common pattern for a child abuser to pick out one or more victims and treat the rest far far better. When the abused child disclosed the beatings, the extended family refused to believe them. It is my understanding that the abused children assert that it was the way it was in Bing's family.

Here are the candidates real answers:

Chris Christie: True Heart

Carly Fiorina: Secretariat
Scott Walker: Harley
Jeb Bush: Ever-Ready
Donald Trump: Humble
Ben Carson: One Nation
Ted Cruz: Cohiba

207 So my take from the debate is that the GOPe hasn't learned anything from 2012. Less debates but more candidates, more insanity. I wonder how long it will take for the Top.Men. working at the RNC to realize we need either conservative media outlets or objective media outlets to moderate these circus shows that are called "debates."

Also, how about a pre-game huddle next time among the candidates to sort out any personal issues?; each candidate gets to decide what is off limits for other candidates to attack except if the issue will obviously be used by Democrats in the general (like Fiorina and Trump's business records); everyone should also, at the end of their own speech about whatever policy their talking about, GO AFTER OBAMA AND CLINTON OR give a clear ideological explanation for why conservatives believe what they believe because Carly was absolutely superb in doing the former and Rubio (shame he doesn't believe what he's saying), Huckabee and Cruz (despite his lack of time) were great at the latter. Anyone who doesn't agree to these rules will be free game for everyone else to attack.

He's had some serious fame in his time, so should know how to deal with it, and yet he isn't.

I think Bill Murray talked about people becoming famous and he'd cut them some slack for the first couple years because it would completely screw with your head. It is also sadly not uncommon for children/relatives of famous people who are angry at them to tear them down for the opportunity to get payback/make money/become famous. Courtney Love's father, for example, will tell you he thinks his daughter had Curt Cobain killed.

I'd say it's hard to know who is telling the truth and who isn't.

No, it is a stretch. When I was in HIGH SCHOOL, many of those girls were not of 'the age of consent' either. But they were happy to take the ludes and even happier to have sex, often with guys several years older than they were. That whole age of consent thing back then, at least where I grew up, was more of a guideline than a rule. Hot sixteen year old hippy chicks where having sex with whoever the hell they wanted to. Free love, and all that shit.

Different times back then and in Cosby's case, power might have actually had something to do with it, but that was not universal, by any stretch of the imagination.

To your point, the debate format was very disappointing. But what would you expect from CNN?

Want a performance? By their own admission they formulated questions so candidates could attack Trump and each other. Are you not entertained?

Want to see meat and potatoes and learn candidate positions? This is where I liked the JV team debate part 1. Parade each candidate up on stage 1 by 1. Ask some questions, usher them off. Next candidate. rinse, repeat.

From the repeated descriptions here yesterday, I had been left with the impression that the kid actually built a digital clock on his own out of discrete components.

Having looked into it a bit more and looked at the closeup photos, no.

What budding engineering genius Mohammed had done was to take an existing digital clock out of its plastic case and jimmy it into a pencil case. You can clearly see that the circuit board was manufactured and marked for the components on it. It's not an amateur breadboard rig.

And, the comments from the local police confirm that he repurposed an existing clock.

403 #369 On this day in 1787, the US Constitution was signed by the delegates in Philadelphia.

404 "And, the comments from the local police confirm that he repurposed an existing clock."

Yeah, he took apart a clock and made it look like every timing device from literally every action movie from 1983-1996.

Set. Up.

Posted by: Lauren at September 17, 2015 10:46 AM (GZ6Pf)

405 The information about taking the clock out first period and being told to put it away

And then taking it out in third period and turning it on in English is in the Dallas newspaper story.

But you have to read the story, they buried that part

As for debating Terry Jones, that was put out on Twitter. You can google it

Kids dad is from Sudan and periodically goes back to run for President! Daddy works with CAIR a lot, searching for discrimination against Muslims

This is all a set up and bull shit. I don't think they thought the kid would get arrested. I am sure they are delighted he did

They are going to intimidate people into no longer reporting suspicious activity by Muslims

Well I will not submit

406 387 >>Clock is the Muslim mattress

Great analogy.

407 And the NASA shirt? Come on, guys.

Posted by: Lauren at September 17, 2015 10:48 AM (GZ6Pf)

408 Yes, Ahmed's pop and CAIR cooked this up. Obama might be in on it too--or he's just a dupe. And the poster who said this is about softening us up for taking in Syrian "refugees" made a brilliant point.

He needs to get a little more serious and have a few more legitimate proposals.
Posted by: Ricardo Kill at September 17, 2015 10:39 AM (LA7Cm

I would suspect if he put out legitimate proposals 75% or more of them would fly in the face of republican/conservative beliefs. He's right on illegal immigration, foreign policy? Economy? Abortion? Gun rights? Judges?
Posted by: Misanthropic Humanitarian at September 17, 2015 10:43 AM (OLNwX)

His economic proposals are going to be red meat populist not conservative. Higher personal taxes on the really rich, no trade deals with third world countries, etc, balanced with lower taxes on corporations, simplified tax code, etc.

He's probably got David Stockman working on it right now.

They are also quite obviously trying to get some European to slaughter some obstreperous "refugees", and then Iran/Syria/Pakistan can bomb a European city. I firmly believe that Obama wants WWIII going good and hot as he walks out the door.

412 his debate prep probably consists of looking in the mirror.

Rush yesterday said that Trump said his debate prep was his life. (Which is something Rush says about show prep, but he still comes in with his stack of stuff every day.)

Posted by: Caesar North of the Rubicon at September 17, 2015 10:52 AM (5f5bM)

413 I don't see Trump dropping the mike and saying "Fuck you" during the debate when he quits.
After last night's debate he almost seemed a bit mellowed talking about all the "talent" that was up on stage and how he can see "some" of them as good presidents. He wouldn't name names, but the fact that he said that....he would never admit it, but I think he feels out of his depth.

I do too, but, he has no chance, because the people running the Beltway will not allow it, he is too smart and educated to actually be given the job.

No, no, no. It's "How does your son know his sister is on her period? Your dick tastes like what's coming out of Megyn's . . . wherever."

Way I heard it was:

421 Here are some other ways Ellison could show empathy for the teen.

Say, "Yes, I'm getting up now" (at 6;00 o'clock in the morning for school) and then doing exactly the opposite.

Scowl for no particular reason

Say, "I'm going to do my homework now" while continuing to play on his i-pod.

;^)

Was no more pathetic than Jebbie demanding an apology from Trump about comments on his wife. For a minute I thought he was going to need to wipe his eyes.

425 Thanks for the link to those amazing Pluto pictures (in the sidebar)! I sort of anticipated seeing the Nostromo parked on one of those nitrogen glaciers. That is one damn cold place, but beautiful. I am surprised, a little, that NASA funding levels, as well as it's roadmap for future exploration activities / priorities, hasn't seen any daylight in current campaign activities. It would be a very divisive, or at least differentiating, topic for the candidates to grapple with.

426 An English woman wanted to have sex with a woman friend, but wasn't comfortable about it, and so concocted an elaborate plan to pretend to be a man. Now she is being charged with assault, for having sex under false pretences. Her defence? The other woman must have known and was playing along, because who could be so completely duped by such an obvious sham?

"The pair had sex about 10 times until on one occasion the complainant
took off the blindfold and saw Newland wearing a prosthetic penis, her
breasts restrained by bandages under a swimming costume, her long hair
covered by a hat."
