It is strange that we haven't seen him hobbling around yet, but even if it really were a bicycle accident, it could be much more serious than stated. Ex-coworker hit a curb on her bike and despite having a helmet, she was in a coma and died.
Assassination attempt is more dramatic, though.

So, I've got the nuts and bolts down, and there's no telemarketing or high-pressure stuff, just traveling hither and thither giving presentations and visits with folks who have requested more information. But I have never done sales so I don't know if I have the sales mojo.
If you don't take the job I will!! That is exactly the kind of scenario I like. Being able to do what you want on your own schedule is great! If you are not being beaten about the head and shoulders for quotas every week, then it can be fun.

Last nite I peeked into GoatsLive and caught the tail end of a goat vs chicken fight. Patsy, the chicken has been nesting in the hay bucket. When the goats tried to eat some hay, she would try to peck them. Well, something had to give. When I looked, one goat was chasing her around the pen. She finally escaped by jumping up on a tall fence pole where she continued to squawk like hell. Occasionally, the goats wd stop eating and shoot her some dirty looks. I think Patsy has gone "broody" and the hay bucket is the perfect place to it. I fear she may end up as Sunday dinner, though...

All of this is a waste. Seriously, I've been selling and running sales organizations at a pretty high level for a long time. You don't sell through tricks or by asking canned questions or even by being a sociopath.
Sales is about people liking and trusting people. That's all there really is to it. It's simple. But it's not. Yes, you have to know your industry, know your product and know the competition as well as you know your own stuff. But at the end of the day people buy from people they trust and believe in. Their ass is on the line as well.
And if you don't do well under pressure sales is not the career for you. You are always under pressure, not just for you but you will come to realize that you are supporting a lot of people behind you. You are the revenue engine and it never stops. You've got to feed the beast every day, every week, every month. And when the year is over, no matter how great a year you had, it starts all over again.
The rewards can be great. But the risks are great too.

After watching the abortion debates for several decades and having a child of my own, I've come to think that supporting unlimited abortion really corrupts a person's soul. These are the people who will support any manner of creep, whether it's Bill Clinton or Kermit Gosnell, because they will protect legal abortion. They even support sex-selective abortion or post-birth abortion (like Obama supported) because to give one inch is to lose. This blows their whole morality scale out of whack and it poisons other moral decisions.
OK, that sounds judgey and extreme, but how else can you view the people who are willing to give Gosnell a pass to maintain their political stance?

Seriously my dad has done sales most of my life. He is good at it, but he has that 'salesman personality', similar to another friend who went into sales. Not slick in a used care salesman way, but able to talk to lots of people, wheel and deal but not be an ass about it. I don't know how to describe it but I know it when I see it.
But sales is work. Lazy people don't do well in sales.

Well, Obama has certainly extended and hardened the cement on a lot of Bush's post-9/11 Terror, Inc. policies, so he's very similar to Bush in every way that way. His domestic policy is a bit different, but when you talk about drones, the American Empire, the NSA, civil liberties, attacks on journalism and whistleblowers, he's as bad or worse than Bush. He hasn't started as many wars, but he's extended the ones we had, and I don't even think Dick Cheney or Richard Nixon would say the president has the right to unilaterally decide whom he can kill around the world. On Tuesdays, the president can just decide whom he wants to kill, and you know, since 9/11 there are magic words like "terror," and if you use magic words, you can justify any power grab you want.

Not everybody can do sales. If you are one of those people who can, there is essentially no limit on the up side. The thing is that you have to have pretty thick skin to deal with an enormous amount of rejection.
One major advantage that you may have once you get your sales chops down is that an awful lot of sales people are idiots. They get by in life by talking other people into doing things for them. That is a skill that should not be dismissed or underestimated but it often allows other aspects of the brain and personality to atrophy. Another thing is that a lot of salesmen are lazy. They have grown up talking their way out of difficulty and that is the way they drift through life.
So if you have the ability to sell and you are willing to develop that skill and you are reasonably intelligent and have at least an average work ethic, you can probably do pretty well for yourself. Even if you eventually decide to do something else, the skills learned will be useful.

Bush didn't start any wars. We were attacked on 9/11 and struck back at those who did it in Afghanistan.
We were in a state of cease fire in Iraq and Saddam broke every single sanction he agreed to including shooting repeatedly at our planes that were tasked with patrolling the no-fly zones Saddam had agreed to after his unprovoked attack on Kuwait and the subsequent ass kicking he received. Bush, rightfully, took out a threat that was already sponsoring terror attacks on our ally Israel before it could metastasize and attack us directly. And he also gave them warning after warning after warning. He had a red line that actually was a red line.
Obama went to war with Libya with almost no justification, without Congressional approval and without even going to the UN which I think is a waste but at least Bush went.

And his domestic policies are more than just a tad different. They are absolutely radical and not coincidentally, failures.

I liked Perry from the jump, but then he meets my criteria, which are:
1. Governor
2. Governor for two terms ideally
3. General likeable vibe
4. Seems conservative.
Also important for winning are the ability to think on your feet, go around the media, and not back down. Romney failed on that backing down thing. Shame, because although he wasn't my favorite I came to think rather well of him. He was a decent option. But he couldn't pull it off.
I don't draw lines in the sand about policy really, although I think fiscal policy is most important. If someone is insulting or breaks Reagans rule, they tend to go to the bottom of the pack.

No. I don't hate you. I do know that sales is a lot harder than I thought it was before I spent the worst year of my life trying to do it. I have no idea why they hired me for the job. It is not something that I am suited for and one day after yet another morning where I woke up and was disappointed that I had not died in my sleep so that I would not have to face another day of it, I quit.
It was an interesting experience. I recall the time that my manager asked me why I had not said some particular sales point to a potential customer and when I answered, "Because it is not true", he just looked at me with this expression of genuine bewilderment. I guess that is something that had just never occurred to him.
I certainly understand the concept of salesmen who are not sociopaths and I met plenty of them. However I also met some successful salesmen who are.

Some House conservatives are hinting at support for a temporary extension of Obama-Care subsidies if the Supreme Court cripples the law, even as they set up a working group to develop their own plan.

And of that 11 million people, I believe 1 million work for the government in some capacity.
And over 104,000 of those public servants earn more than $100,000 a year.

Ontario used to have a policy to have the lowest rates in the region which kept us Canada's economic powerhouse. But we did go the European model, with windmills dotting the entire area, costs soaring, businesses fleeing, Liberals spending and it's just getting worse.
Cap and Trade is next and there is active talk about a provincial Pension Plan. Good luck with that.

Consider that the Phillipine government behaved with incredible high-handedness towards the American military when previously forcing the closures of Clark and Subic. They should be reminded of this. Pointedly.
The other problem with setting these local "tripwire" forces all over the place is that increasingly, there isn't enough actual US military muscle behind the tripwire to be able to back up the forward-deployed units.
