Good morning, DOOM Sunshine!

This is usually Andy's gig, but he's busy muling Robitussin over the border or something. Consider this a little DOOM hors d'oeuvre to tide you over until Monday.

I invite you to consider this latest entry in the "Saving is bad, mmm'kay?" genre. It's a good rule of thumb that if you read a piece that lauds Teh Krugman, you're about to read something really stupid, and that rule holds here. The line about all wealth being generated collectively was good for a horselaugh, too, but what can you do? Socialists gonna be Socialist.

Anyway, have a groovy day, babies.

We need to do what the Republican Party did to the Whigs. Get our best people on board, jump ship, and outdo them until there's nothing left but a hollow shell.

The persecutors actually wanted 25 years - that fisherman was also charged and convicted of a "destruction of evidence" charge that carries a maximum of 5 years. He didn't challenge that conviction.

In short, it was a test by the persecutors of how far they could stretch SarbOx's "destruction of records" 20-year-punishment law. That it was mostly liberals (plus, in a separate concurrence-in-judgement, Alito) that stopped it and mostly conservatives (less Alito) that liked the stretch is "rabbit down the hole" territory.

60 On the savings article, it is true that the more people spend, the better the ecpnpmy. But if people don't save at all, this spending is not sustainable. There is an ideal balance between saving / investing / sustainable spending that varies depending on factors like socio-political stability, health, etc. In Obama's America, the balance is very much tilted yowards save as much as possible because of external instability. IOW it's a bear market all around.

For most people, there's nothing left to save and there's nothing left to spend. The next slowdown is when it really hits the fan.

Also, I'd like to bring up a little something called Say's Law, articulated in one of the earliest commentaries on the Wealth of Nations: It's not true that spending is good for the economy. Sales do not create wealth, they're just a wealth transfer. Production is what's good for the economy, creating things that are worth more than the sum of their parts and the labor used to create them. Selling the thing you produced? Just a wealth transfer.

Production is the health of the economy.

As has been pointed out many times here on this well endowed blog, what you should do is borrow millions of dollars at 4% interest and buy bullets from foreign suppliers and smuggle them into the country where you can sell them for ten times what it costs to smuggle them across the border.

114 The reason the FCC exists is to regulate the scarce bandwidth of electromagnetic radiation in the radio frequency broadcast spectrum. Because RF waves can be long range this small bandwidth has to be regulated to prevent interference between different broadcasters (including individuals with cell phones).

The FCC does not regulate newspapers and magazines because that "bandwidth" changes according to demand; if you need more bandwidth you simply print more of the medium. The internet is not a limited resource where interference occurs between broadcasters. If more bandwidth is needed one simply provides more cables. Each wire has essentially the entire radio and optical spectrum (in the case of Fiber Optic cable) available to it. The does not need or require cufking government regulation. The FCC must be stopped or they will be "regulating" print media next - since according to the Progressives that is "Communication" also.

No government has any business deciding marriage law. Under the doctrine of the separation of church and state, neither government nor religion can interfere with each other's operations. Marriage existed as a religious ceremony long before it existed as a legal contract. The state's contractual "marriages" are actively interfering with religious practice. The State should be forced to rename its contract something else, such as Civil Union or Domestic Partnership - for all state "marriages" - and relinquish control of the ceremony and definition of marriage to the Churches.

Some will marry gays, some won't, and every denomination will call each other heretics until the end of time. They were going to do that anyway, so why not?

261 Who needs savings when the Federal Reserve can easily create fiat money?
Only a fool would save when the Fed can generate inflation with a
keystroke. Investments? Those infrastructure shovel-ready jobs are real
investments. Student loans are investments in human capital. You don't
need to save money for your retirement or children's/grand's education.
Government is what we all do together.

So you're the one who's going to do the killing? Have you begun stalking the governor? It's best if you confess now.

It is killed free speech and I made no personal threats.

Clearly I struck a nerve in pointing out Walker will get killed in a general election by Hillary over his views.

Take a screenshot of this comment please.

Akins got killed over his pro rape stances.

265 The American public loves Bill Clinton.
Deal with it.

And Bill loves the American pubic. Sadly, some have been underaged sex slaves.

2016 will be about many things, but I'm thinking the War on Wimmynz ain't going to be one of them.

Posted by: Circa (Insert Year Here) at February 27, 2015 08:23 AM (659DL)

Troll aside, I'm not sure I agree with you a hundred percent on your police work, there, Lou.

Hillary has nothing BUT her gender going for her. That and a kick-ass smear machine. The two together ensure little else than a war-on-wimmynz theme.

And I have no reason to think that the same idiots who fell for it in 2012 (despite the measurable, observable degradation in their own standard of living under Obama) will behave any differently in 2016.

Sigh.

269 I have long argued for "freedom to marry," that the government doesn't have authority in the matter.
http://bit.ly/free2wed

I was pondering devilishly advocating otherwise today, for reasons. Thought that might be interesting to discuss.

But I realized we'd be weaving around the clutter of the redundant, disruptive troll posts and those of his correspondents. Not worth it. Trolls take a toll.

Besides, I gotta feed the pets. BBL/lurk mode

Anybody watch The Americans? Where do those ruskies find enough hours in the day! I like how they portray all these peace groups as commie fronts. Damn straight! The commies are always fucking with black people, too. What they did to the housekeeper and her family and now the Northrup worker. Nasty!

276 I wonder if Hector's mother has any idea which of her Johns was Hector's father. Here is a hint Hector - he was the one who wanted his money back. Wait - that doesn't cut down on the number of potential dads very much though.

Who's your daddy Hector? Being raised in a whore house must have given you an interesting childhood. Of course some women become prostitutes not because they are desperate and have no choice but rather because they like all the sex. Why don't you ask your mom which kind of whore she is?

277 Thanks for the link to the opinion piece about saving being bad. It is always good to know what the idiots are up to, and I don't doubt they totally resent the independence that people gain from accumulating wealth.

Best of all he had an embedded link to Mr. Money Mustache. I had never seen that site and am glad to have made its acquaintance.

278 Favorite line: "This is a structural problem with putting individuals in charge of their own retirement."

And he briefly mentions, but dismisses, the role of investment, while deriding 401ks as merely "savings" that doesn't do anything but sit there. Yet money from the government is somehow free and helps people better than they can help themselves. His "if everyone saves 50%, that would be bad" idea ignores the identical problem if everyone were *taxed* at 50%.

*facepalm*

He doesn't even understand the role of simple passbook savings as a vehicle for investment by banks using that money to give out loans.
