Woman I went to school with many years ago, after we parted ways she went Ivy, pedigree out the ass, could have done anything. Anyway, she came aboard a very large research facility as their first diversity specialist. She is horribly unprofessional on social media and nothing short of a perpetually-offended, -ism-baiting spaz. I would not have a job if I behaved like she did - but she'll basically be untouchable given the role she's in. IIRC, there was talk of an EfNY remake with Gerald Butler in the middle 2000's after 300 was a success. Fortunately those talks fell through until now.
There is a kind of unofficial Snake Plissken in Space movie called Lockout (2012). Guy Pierce plays the Plissken-like character (but he's more witty in this) who has to infiltrate a space prison to rescue the President's daughter from criminals. It's not a great movie, but it's not bad either.

I personally know Ken Dahl and have known him for nearly 30 years. He is as straight an arrow as they come. I guarantee that the 15-6 investigation is going to lay out the facts.
No one can say what the chain of command will do with it, but the report is going to be completely factual.
For what it's worth, he is the Deputy Commander of I Corps and Fort Lewis, Washington. That is a retirement job. He isn't going anywhere further career-wise, and he knows it, and the Chief of Staff knows it, too, which I'm sure figures into why he was assigned to do the investigation.
If you think you have some inside information or that Bill Cowan is doing anything other than talking out of his ass, which he does frequently, I'd love to hear your facts. Otherwise, this is a gratuitous smear on someone who did nothing to earn it.

As she explained it, it implies that your child is going to be a reader and be learned. And, it says to your guests that you are thinking of your child as a future intellectual, not as "just a child with no expectations"
I mean, we aren't talking Shakespeare here. We're talking Cat in the Hat and Curious George. I can't believe we have reached a point where children's literature is considered pretentious, and even non-psychos like my sister can fall into the trap of not wanting to come across as offensive to people.

Nothing happens. I already swapped out the power cord and changed the battery on the board. Still have a green light illuminate on the back of the power supply when I plug it in. It is gonna be a bitch to get at the back side of the on/off button on the front side to see if it is the switch that is bad.

Then don't -- follow the wires to where it connects to the PC board, then try jumpering that -- if the machine starts, it's a bad switch. Drill a hole where it's easier to get to, put in your own switch, and wire it to the PC board.

It went from all go, to nothing? I had a long standing problem that kept returning, changed the power box did everyting... turned out to be a loose wire behind the on/off button. Doh. I'm guessing you might have something similar back there. But, the symptoms with mine were "on" splutter, shut down, "on" splutter, shut down... etc. Not sure with just plain dead- nothing, but maybe loose connection/wire, button's dead?

I'm Catholic and I have not been indoctrinated. I go to church to pray and hear the gospel and take Communion. I am not bound to agree with them on immigration or the wonderfulness of Islam or politcal issues in general (except for abortion, which is a mortal sin) - only the basic doctrine.
The good thing about old Catholic churches is if the priest starts talking like a SJW there are plenty of things to look at -statues, stained glass windows, the Stations of the Cross....
The priest at the Latin Mass I sometimes attends give a good old fashioned sermon. I like that. So does his (mainly young, John Paul II generation) congregation.

And, I think there is a massive disconnect between Rome and some local parish in Omaha or wherever. If a priest wants to talk about money every single Sunday, they can. Theoretically, yes, parishioners can raise concerns to bishops, and maybe something can happen on a diocesan level. But, usually things don't escalate past that level.
So, if a priest or bishop is corrupt or goes rogue or anything like that...it's probably not getting back to Papa Francesco.
And, I just know from personal experience....people tend to care more about their local priest and what their priest is telling them than what the Pope says.

Well I am not indoctrinated either. But, at my previous parish that I spoke about, there are a LOT of sheeple that blindly believe whatever the priest suggested. And, don't forget about the kiddos in Catholic school and at daily mass, or even just at weekly mass. They are going to be the most susceptible to being sucked in.
My new parish is great. Old school priest, giving old school homilies. About the readings, about Christ, about our actual FAITH...not begging for moolah.

Astute observation, but... It was a treat for a business milestone. Don't think I can afford it as my everyday drink. Instead of scotch I usually drink bourbon, and Jim Beam (which is not bad) is my "well drink". When business is bad, it's Early Times. Which is drinkable, but no trip to Paris.

I think Americans have had quite enough of the race card.
Although the last movie I saw was "42" - about Jackie Robinson. I liked it not only because I'm a big baseball fan, but because I genuinely admire Robinson, who believed in hard work, not welfare programs. He was a Republican and toward the end of his life (he died in the early '70's) was mocked by the radical types, who called him an "Uncle Tom." Radical types who wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes putting up with the shit Robinson endured when he joined the Dodgers.

Ice fishing was a success today, we took a young man who had never been before, and got a convert.
He found out why crappie got the name "papermouth", but caught on about hook setting pretty quick.
Came back with enough for a good fry, which really sealed the deal.

It depends on the priests. Most in my area keep politics out of the Sunday sermon. Some are into social justice, but you don't hear that much from them about it. It comes out in the diocesan magazine and places like that. There may have been a change regarding illegal aliens in the last couple of years. I don't go to church much because of caring for my dad.

I can recall when there was only the Church proper, and the Quonset Hut. No building along Sherwood.
I used to ride a lawnmower engine powered car around in the parking lot. For years, there was a playground where the newer buildings are now.
There was a carousel (like this http://tinyurl.com/qzs5saj ) , slides, jungle gym, and one of those spinning rides, where each kid sits opposite the other (kind of like a see-saw) and pumps on the handles and footrests to make the thing spin.

I think you're right actually.
It's not so much protection of artistic integrity. It's protection of black sensitivity. Nobody cares about east Asians (Ming / Chinese) or central Asians (Fremen / Arabs, Persians / freakin' Persians). So the suits'll hire whatever white honky shows up willing to wear makeup, talk with an accent and squint.
I don't really want whites to take over black roles, any more than I want blacks to take over white roles. I don't care about racial sensitivities at all, really. I do care about ruining the original author's creative vision. For some reason.

Now that the lakes are thick enough to drive on we have our permanent shack out. Before that we would out with a portable shack. The days of sitting on a bucket in the cold is over.
Our shack is right for 2 guys and 2-3 rods each with our sonar units, plus our mr. Heater unit

I only "have" a few items. But, yes, I have been planning since November, so...I had a menu set, as well as recipes, a menu in place, as well as some graphics put together for signage.
I've never been to a themed shower. All my friends had pretty basic showers. I was shocked when my sister shared with me that she even wanted a theme, much less what she wanted her theme to be.

Gonna go see it when it comes near here. And I would pay a nickel to be there if the "I Can't Breathe" types turned up. Their name may be prophetic. And a couple of hits and kicks for my Marine E-8 nephew who has spent too many tours in the Horn of Africa, in Afghanistan, and Iraq. And a couple of places he can't tell me about, but I know what schools he went to.

I used to ride a lawnmower engine powered car around in the parking
lot. For years, there was a playground where the newer buildings are

I can bounce back pretty fast.....but, as I tell the phlebotomists -- don't try to soft-pedal it, it's a phobia -- it's not supposed to make sense. If I had my druthers, they could take a small pair of pliers and rip a piece of my skin off to get their sample -- and the more they talk about "it's so tiny, you'll hardly feel it", the worse it gets. Last time I went in, I told the guy my standard schpiel about "don't bother telling me to breathe, it just annoys me......and if, by chance, I do pass out.....finish the draw."
[I'd much prefer the alternative instructions: "if I pass-out halfway through this, and wake up finding out you stopped and I have to do it all over again -- I will hurt you." I have stopped breathing for a minute or two, but have not yet passed out.]

So, at least you'll know what you're looking for. Seems to be limited distribution out there. Try Spec's Finer Foods & Liquors, in the Houston market. Spec's is the 800 lb. Gorilla of liquor chains in this part of Texas, and is growing into Austin and San Antonio, too.
Like any other spirit, if your local outlet doesn't carry it....give 'em a printout of the label, and tell them to ask their distributor(s). Sooner or later, one of 'em will round it up and bring it in.

Yep, and Lyft as well. I own 2 cabs that I lease out. Drivers are hurting due to Uber and Lyft. Both services keep cutting their rates though. Much more, and their driver pool will dry up.

It's the same problem with non-humanoid characters. CG can fill some of the gap if you have the budget but actors who can play the parts aren't easy to find. Then there is the problem of making them into exaggerated cartoons if the audience is supposed to empathize with them. That wasn't a problem for the Gorn on Enterprise, which was nicely scary and pretty good for TV.

Exactly. And, they need to have the same insurance and pickup area permit requirements, as wells as tags, inspections...etc. My cars are not permitted for Atlanta AP pickups. So, we (wink) don't do them. But Uber and Lyft roll right in, as they claim they are not cabs and are exempt from taxi regs. Except for, you know, that whole paying money for a ride thing.

The County has told me that they are proud of,their,reputation for regulating quality, while those in charge of this,do not even live in this County or use their services. When told "Customers self,regulate quality of services", I was met with a blank stare.

Any government-enforced monopoly breaks down when the amount of government graft paid gets close to the costs of circumventing government controls.
This has, historically been looked at in the applied area -- "too high customs duties encourages smuggling" or "excess cigarette taxes encourages sale of 'loosies'." But there is a larger principle to be observed.

Wait until you discover the joys of milling plastic. You can do so many cool things with it (you can CNC-carve smoke-colored plastic to where you can hold it up to the light and see a picture).....but, half the time you work with it, you melt plastic onto your cutter.
And here's where the bonus points come in.....there are about 47,000 flavors of plastic, all of whom need different feed rates to get nice chips and no melt....

(operator actually, I wasn't union). You have to watch all the movies
after you put them together to make sure you didn't mess up a splice.I
think I saw every movie that came out in '85-'86.

Incidentally, didn't you have to project the splices live? I had friends in AV in the early 80's (one was later a roommate -- we're godparents of the other's three kids.) That was around 1982, and would be interesting that the changeover happened before '85.

I could probably use some of your brains & tool knowledge this week -
I have a job to build a floor/fold-up ramp for a van. Guy has a carpet cleaning business and wants to roll his machines in & out of said van.
And he wants it made of aluminum. I'm thinking of starting with some HF ramps, but won't know more until tomorrow.
I don't b even have a welder, much less the ability to weld aluminum. ..

Dunno what you mean. You cut the film, one side on a frame line, one side 1 sprocket hole over. Then you overlap them by 1 sprocket hole, put tape across, bring the cutter down, turn the film over and do it again. All of this is done on the rewind table, not in the projector. Here's a vid of the process, although this guy does a butt splice. Overlap splices are stronger (but you do lose one frame of film when you tear the movie down).

A few minutes later, the action onscreen fades to black......and then the second blip on the lower right. You turn off the first projector.

That's not splicing, that's a changeover. It was automated long before my time, although I did occasionally have to do it manually working a side job screening films for, IIRC, an advertising agency. Each reel is threaded on a seven second leader, when you see the first changeover marker(black dot, upper right) you start the second projector. 6 seconds later you see the second dot, you simultaneously close the douser on the first projector, open it on the second, and stamp on the petal that transfers the sound source from machine one to machine two. Then you rewind the first reel, thread the third reel onto the first projector, and in twenty minutes do it all over again going the other way. As you said, old school. Real old school is carbon arc lamps. I never worked with one of those. Just in case you were wondering Xenon bulbs make a wonderful "BOOM" when you throw them off the roof of a theatre into the alley below (or so I've heard *wink*).

Not so much "ow" -- but a whole lot of "this is WRONG". As I've mentioned before, I've had two dental crowns put on without anesthetic 'cause I don't like being a pincushion. You want "ow" -- try prepping a crown.
But looking down and finding a sewing needle sticking out of you is decidedly unpleasant. It wasn't very big and hadn't penetrated very far, but it's not supposed to be there in the first place.

When I was 8 or 9, my brothers, two and four years older than me, were wrestling when the younger found something my mother had lost: a needlepoint needle. Anyone familiar knows these are big blunt things. It went in my brother's leg and kept moving as his muscles involuntarily spasmed from the pain. The hospital used a pair of magnets to hold it in place so they could go after it without making it a fishing expedition. To this day he has a scar at the bottom right of his left knee that looks like a fat earthworm. That was pretty painful but he beat that about seven years later in a motorcycle crash that broke the femur of the same leg and bruised his entire groin. He was airborne for about 15 feet and landed face first but fortunately was wearing a full face helmet. Anything else is a joke. Looking at the front of that helmet later, he would he either been DRT or horribly disfigured.
Anyway, after that, he said the needle in his leg was comparatively not so bad.

Now I realize that this is perfectly normal behavior for a 14 year old. And I realize that I actually got turned on to some awesome music when my friends did this to me, and vice versa - I really did turn people on to some great stuff.
BUT... seeing my kids do it, today, makes me cringe because as often as not you can see the pain on the other person's face. "Damn, I have to listen to this crap for 5 minutes or I'm being rude..." You can read their minds, and you KNOW it was that way when YOU were 14.
So I watch the Secretary of State of the United States and WHAMMO! I am transported back.
It's not "tone-deafness." It's so far beyond that... I'm not sure there are words for this.
We have juveniles and imbeciles running our country. That's the only conclusion that fits this bizarro-world scenario...
