Dearth Day Disaster: 50 Million "Climate Refugees" Missing
Shrieking Ninnies Hit Hardest

I'm pretty sure someone gave a nod to this earlier in the sidebar or on the main page, but the U.N.'s defective crystal ball has resurfaced just in time for the High Holy Day of the pagan religion of Global Warming Climate Change Climate Instability.

This time it seems that there's a little problem with their scare story of 50 million climate refugees by 2010. A very small problem, really. The prediction still holds, other than the fact that neither the origin nor destination of any actual climate refugees can be located.

50 million predicted. Zero found. That's about par for what passes as climate science these days. Another hallmark: "hiding the decline", in this case by deleting the inconvenient truth of their asshattery from the Internet.

In 2005, the U.N. Environment Program (UNEP) published a color-coded map under the headline "Fifty million climate refugees by 2010."

...

Six years later, this flood of refugees is nowhere to be found, global average temperatures are about where they were when the prediction was made—and the U.N. has done a vanishing act of its own, wiping the inconvenient map from its servers.

And don't worry about all that noise you hear emanating from Turtle Bay. It's just the sound of the goalposts being shifted.

The program's spokesman tells us the map vanished because "it's not a UNEP prediction. . . . that graphic did not represent UNEP views and was an oversimplification of UNEP views." He added that the program would like to publish a clarification, now that journalists are "making hay of it," except that the staffers able to do so are "all on holiday for Easter."

Yeah. Right. The U.N. map on the U.N. servers didn't represent the U.N.'s views. You just can't make this stuff up.

I'm sure when they get back from "holiday" they'll correct the inconvenient typo by telling us we're all doomed. DOOMED. Just in 2020 now. In the meantime, we'll get to make fun of our favorite enviro-idiot, as Rush's AlGore Doomsday Clock stands at about 4 years and ticking.

On a related note, for all you gearhead morons (and anyone who likes production of massive amounts of CO2, really) Iowahawk's annual celebration of our favorite MILF is not to be missed.

Crap! As I was writing this, I noticed that Tim Blair had found some climate refugees. I'm still standing by my post, though, as I'm pretty sure the U.N. wasn't talking about fish. Maybe.

Did you hear why air traffic controllers are so sleepy?

Because in 1981 President Reagan fired them and never allowed them to unionize and collective-bargain for decent working conditions.

7 I would like to see a map of all of the refugees who are suffering due to endangered species protection laws and rulings. California's breadbasket counties is becoming a dust bowl wasteland and the farmers are truly suffering, along with all of the people who depend on a farm driven economy. But at least the snail darters are thriving.

Wisconsin Democrats have already filed recall petitions against four
Republican state Senators. Today they announced they will submit
signatures against a fifth Republican, and expect a sixth by the May 2nd
deadline. Before this year only four state legislators had been
recalled in Wisconsin history.

You know who made this happen? Thousands of volunteers. They took
time off work, family and weekends to knock on doors in the snow (yes,
it's still snowing in Wisconsin) gathering over 150,000 signatures in
less than two months. No one ever paid them a dime, but they kept the
fight going.

Today, I'm asking members of the Daily Kos community to send short thank you notes to the volunteers who gathered recall petition signatures against Wisconsin Republicans. You can write a note by clicking here.
I've already been in touch with the recall organizers in Wisconsin and
they promised your note will be sent to all of the volunteers.

This isn't like a normal petition that will be read by a low-level
congressional staffer. These notes will go directly to volunteers on the
ground in Wisconsin.

Can you imagine how good it would feel if thousands of people around
the country sent you notes of thanks? Can you imagine how fired up this
will make Wisconsin volunteers feel for the recall elections this
summer?

Let those on the front lines know you support them. Please, send a short thank you note to the Wisconsin volunteers who gathered recall petition signatures.

Keep fighting,

Chris Bowers

22 I had read about the missing 50 million a week or two ago and then a couple of days later I was listening over the inter tubes a live stream of Al Gore talking at some climate disruption conference and he made a similar climate refugee claim, but I want to say he said a higher number, 100 million or 200 million or whatever.
Of course he is the same person who predicted the artic would be ice free by now and we would be seeing more, bigger hurricanes. Problem is the rating for the amount of energy created by tropical storms is at an all time low.
Just waiting for the MSM to check out those claims versus reality and call him on it. Any second now...

41 If the election were held today (and the most recent polling per state is to be believed)-
Romney would beat Obama in NH,PA,FL,MI.
Lose (according to PPP in a RV poll) NC,OH,VA.
For a loss in the EV of 260-278.
However, all of the PPP polls are Registered Voter screens, and several competing polls show Obama severely underwater in approval versus the PPP showing him up in Ohio and Virginia- so if PPP's polling methodology is flawed at all (heh), Romney likely leads in just one of those 3- enough to squeek out a victory.

So take that info for what you will.

Huckabee polls a few points behind Romney, Trump is way, way, way down in head-to-heads- doing worse than even Sarah Palin (who isn't running, yet Democratic pollsters apparently love to throw in there just to be dicks).

I don't put any faith in polling this far out- in 2007 McCain and most of the GOP contenders were annihilating Obama in state polling, and trailing Hillary Clinton on average by 30 EVs. Hillary was determined to be the threat. Boy did we blow that one.

Posted by: CAC at April 22, 2011 12:42 PM (JEVge)

42 CAC Rasmussen has already said it. Polls at this point are useless because all they are are a reflection of name recognition.

After candidates announce (should be soon) and debates are held (first may 5) the polls will start to become more meaningful.

But still, even the professional polls are not worth much until the last 3 months.

Posted by: Vic at April 22, 2011 12:46 PM (M9Ie6)

43 #43
I would even say the last month-and-a-half.
Midterms are actually easier to predict a few months out because it falls down on public opinion really. 2012 has so many variables at this point much of this stuff is just inhaled by whichever GOP candidate polls best to say "see! see!!! I can beat him!!"

50 I've said this before, that global warming and cooling are natural occurrences, and have happened numerous times. To posit that man, except in extremely localized, transient episodes can materially affect either is supreme arrogance, plus eye-watering stupidity.

The solution, as it were, entails adapting to the particular, thus surviving. Or failing to, thus expiring.

So the current flap is a bit moot, imho.

53 Unfortunately, I have to deal with developing sea level rise adaptation and mitigation activities for local governments in order to satisfy Florida Statutes. It has been really difficult to keep a balance: enough to satisfy statutes, without excessive cost to the taxpayers. Have attached a link to the climate refugee movie that we had to watch. Some of my - let's say, more emotional (and gullible) - colleagues cried and their beliefs became even more entrenched.
