Gary Larson’s The Far Side might have been dubbed The Dark Side if Star Wars hadn’t been a thing when the comic first debuted. Because since 1979, Larson has been able to illustrate comedic commentaries on death, the underworld, marriage and so many other topics that Garfield and Family Circus would never touch in a family-friendly newspaper. And so, let’s enjoy some of the darkest and most depraved comics that Larson has conjured up over the years... If The Fabulous won't allow me to get a new puppy, perhaps one of these guys. Thanks HB. I've never had Little Caesar's Pizza. It might be good. But is it Genius Award Winning good? SEPTEMBER 12--A Tennessee man has pleaded guilty to pointing an AK-47 rifle at Little Caesars employees because his $6 pepperoni pizza was taking too long to cook, records show. In a plea deal, Charles Doty, 64, agreed last month to cop to his dangerous gunplay at a restaurant in Knoxville. Doty, who was charged with multiple felony counts, is scheduled to be sentenced on September 29 after pleading guilty to four aggravated assault counts. As a result of Doty’s “blind plea,” the “length and manner of service of the sentence” will be solely determined by a Criminal Court judge, according to a prosecution spokesperson. Police say Doty became incensed after being told that his pizza would take ten minutes to prepare. Doty demanded a free order of Little Caesars “Crazy Bread” before briefly leaving the restaurant, which is about five miles from his residence. Olivia Rodrigo is continuing her reign as Gen Z’s tech mogul, but this time she’s partnering with Apple. The angsty singer-songwriter released a brand new music video for her album GUTS that was shot entirely on the newly announced iPhone 15 Pro. The music video is for the track “get him back!” in which Rodrigo muses about her wishy-washy feelings toward a less-than-stellar ex-boyfriend (we’ve all been there). The video was announced by Rodrigo yesterday and was released following Apple’s Wonderlust event, during which the newest generation of the iPhone was unveiled. A behind-the-scenes clip posted by Apple shows us a glimpse of how the video was shot with the iPhone 15 Pro strapped into an external gimbal, smashing through car windows, and being whipped around by Rodrigo herself. I have no idea who Olivia Rodrigo is or what her music is about. But it is an amazing story IMHO. Moar of a dumbfvck than a Genius Award winner. 37 Sobriety Stories. It's no secret that the life of a rock 'n' roll artist is often one of excess. As many of these people will tell you, there's a lot of trouble one can into on the road, and it isn't always as glamorous as it appears on the surface. For some, drugs and alcohol eventually led to their deaths, often at a young age: Jimi Hendrix, John Bonham, Janis Joplin and Keith Moon died as a result of addiction. But others have stared substance abuse in its face and overcome it. Getting sober, sometimes after years of being an addict, isn't easy, and neither is sticking to it. But for those who accomplish it, it can feel like a weight has been lifted. Quitting tobacco was the hardest thing I ever did. Period. I'm the first to admit, I lead a selected sheltered life. Re: the movie Manhunter from 1986: Has the Hannibal Lecter character in a small role. Not played by Hopkins. The book by Thomas Harris is a sequel to his "Silence of the Lambs." . . . Posted by: Blue Sky at September 16, 2023 Not quite. Red Dragon, the novel on which Manhunter is based (and a fine adaptation it is), was written and published before Lambs. The latter is the sequel to Red Dragon. There are references to Will Graham, the hero of Dragon, and his interaction with Lecter and the Tooth Fairy serial killer from that book, in Lambs; clearly it takes place after Dragon. Brian Cox is the actor who played Lecter in the earlier film. He gives the doctor a little less polish than Hopkins does, a flavor of well-educated thug. Very effective, though. Rep. Lauren Boebert has issued an apology after video emerged of her vaping and taking photographs during a musical performance of Beetlejuice at a Colorado theater on Sunday, before she was asked to leave.
In a statement, the House Republican said she "fell short of my values" and "genuinely did not recall vaping that evening," adding: "That's unacceptable, and I'm sorry." The CCTV footage, recorded at the Buell Theatre in Denver, also appears to show Boebert being groped by a male companion, and groping him in return, though this wasn't referenced explicitly in her apology. Same goes for two former Young Turks 'talent', Dave Rubin and Jimmy Dore; Dave is much more 'conservative' than Jimmy but Jimmy understands the left and the right have a lot in common while the media deliberately divides us. Dore is also vehemently against the war in the Ukraine and is calling the Maui fire a government land grab. Finished the oil change on the Suburban; got it off the hoist. took the '49 Ford of the jack stands in back, and Doggone it! the right rear tire was flat. Aired it up, rolled it off the ramps under the front wheels, and picked up the front with the loader on the tractor, and trundled it into the shop and onto the hoist, and got it raised in the air. Took off the right rear wheel; leak proved to be a bad valve.
At which point, the might-as-wells overtook me. Since the wheel is off, might as well service that brake. Took it apart, linings still quite good, but the wheel cylinder was crudded up, so I overhauled that. Finished the brake, raised the car higher, and welded a shim onto the rear transmission mount, so it could be bolted up. Engine and transmission are now fully supported by proper mounts. One of the systemic problems plaguing the right is that the left has the luxury of zero standards except will to power. Yeah, you'd think it would be bad for the movie theater industry to publicize that they have infrared cameras that can see in the dark, and with someone operating them so they can zoom in in real time on anything they find interesting.
Posted by: How Dumb Do You Think We Are? That's also how some cheesy "see through your clothes" photography is done. Take the infrared filter off a normal digital camera. So, the creeps manning the cameras can get an eyeful. https://tinyurl.com/99x42wu6 "But one odd side effect of infrared photography is that, in some cases, it can see right through clothing. Not always, and the clothes have to be pretty thin in the first place." But no woman would wear a thin dress to the theater, right? Boebert is my rep. She came to prominence on the second amendment, open carrying at a Beto O'Rourke rally declaring you won't take our guns, which resonated in this largely rural district. She also was the owner of Shooter's Grill where the wait staff openly carried, but the restaurant has since shut down. This district will not reelect her if they sense that she has lost her 2A mojo. She is now a 38 year old divorcee grandmother, which will not play well with the folks in this district. If she drops out and the R's can put forth a viable candidate the district is probably red enough to keep the seat, but if she runs it will likely flip to an Aspen liberal. This district previouslly has elected Ben Nighthorse Campbell (Dem who later flipped to Rep), and squish (R) Scott Tipton.

Speaking of death, I was amazed at something. 10 days after my father died, my mother was some place and used a debit card for their joint checking out. She had two cards, one in her name and one in his. She used the latter. Declined. And red-flagged as possible fraud/theft. They knew my father was dead, and shut down everything with his name alone on it. I wondered how the hell that happened that fast, just 10 days. Near as I can figure, when a death certificate is filed and certified, the credit agencies get notified (indirectly -- I think the state has to notify SSA, which puts the notice out to the credit agencies). Okay, I live dead-center in the middle of Galveston Island. Quite the Suburb of Suburbs. (just 33 home neighborhood). House sits 4'9" above ground level. Piers. But, out back, there's really no traffic on that street at night. I can go to the back porch after 0100, and pretty much let go #1, as needed. Did so about a month or so back, and immediately pinched off the flow. Why? 'Cause the largest 'possum I'd ever seen, was waddling his way to pass alongside my back porch, perfectly parallel to the railings. Once he was in range, I let go with full force, and got 'im with a good five or six seconds of soakage. That 'possum, getting home, had some 'SPLAININ! to do! I am considering driveshaft options for the Ford. The driveshaft from the van that provided the engine and transmission is about an inch too long, and of course the rear U-joint is wrong. The original from the Ford should be about the right length, but the splined yoke does not match the transmission. It looks like I could use a conversion U-joint to mount the yoke from the van driveshaft on the original Ford driveshaft. I will dummy that up tomorrow, and if it looks like it will work, I will order the appropriate conversion joint.

Oh my, that cousin. Daddy was the baby of his family. This cousin was born to his older sister when Daddy was between 2 and 3 years old. She's 92 - 93 now. She's, well, something else. She married an English perfessor, and got to be a big liberal in that college enclave. It would take me paragraphs to properly explain how she is. Anyway, when you call her on the phone, you can't get away. She will talk and talk, rambling about everything -- all about her, mostly -- and you just about have to hang up on her... Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (Mzdiz) at September 17, 2023 02:37 AM (Mzdiz) Sounds like my wife's aunt. She starts talking and you just can't hardly get a word in edgewise. I once took several minutes trying to tell her my wife was not home and to try her cell... Posted by: jim (in Kalifornia) at September 17, 2023 02:39 AM (ynpvh) 520

Even I do this Posted by: "Greg" from the Bangalore Call Centre at September 17, 2023 02:39 AM (tbtUD) Bangalore Greg! Haven't had a all from you in a while. Got tired of calling me? That's okay, you're a busy guy. Posted by: jim (in Kalifornia) at September 17, 2023 02:40 AM (ynpvh) 522
Anyway, I had to call her to inform her of Daddy's death. It was the Right Thing to Do. And, of course, she got to rambling. I mentioned I was married, if she didn't know. "Oh, I heard you were living with a woman, didn't know you were married". And then, "I don't judge, now, so don't you worry..." Went on about not judging for 5 minutes or so. And then had to recount all the faults, in her eyes, of our family... That's that cousin, there. Utterly inappropirate on the occasion. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (Mzdiz) at September 17, 2023 02:40 AM (Mzdiz) 523
She's a big lib, mind you. She'll get to going on about every ethnic, racial, religious stereotype and prejudice there is, in great detail. Then explain she's not like that. But damn, it seems to be right there in the forefront of her mind, all the damned time. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (Mzdiz) at September 17, 2023 02:41 AM (Mzdiz) 524

Last time I saw the Northern Lights, I was camped on the north side of lake Huron. Late September, on a long motorcycle camping trip from Atlanta. Went west from there to Michigan, then back down through the Midwest, home.

Do watch "Highway Patrol" and Broderick Crawford. The shootout scenes are epic. Bad guys start shooting, willy nilly. Broderick and the cops start shooting back, willy nilly themselves, from the hip. Bad guys all get shot. Broderick and the boys are unscathed. I'd like to have Crawfords car:
"The first cars were actual California Highway Patrol units, borrowed from the CHP," explains Goltz. "They had the Special 48 coupe body, Century engine, and Roadmaster brakes. These were among the first cars built specifically for police use." Buick built 270 of these "Century 68" two-doors, half with three-speed column-shift manual transmissions and half with slushy Dynaflow automatics. All served with the CHP and just two are known to survive." Pic (can't get tinyurl to work. "Being famous is not an exemption to the 11th tradition."
True dat...There are many many more "famous" musicians and actors that follow that tradition than those that flaunt it(many of those that got very publicly sober, later get very publicly drunk). Several are members of the very same bands THESE individuals play in. I quit feb4,1988. It stuck.(so far) I lived in the Bay Area for some time, and there were/are LOTS of "FamousFolks" in the meetings, and newcomers are cautioned NOT to make a big deal out of it. One of the main meeting places in Marin is a former residential house bought/donated/funded/subsidized by a "Famous Musician". Posted by: birddog at September 17, 2023 11:16 AM (1E8/t) 549
