The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“I think it’s fair to say, it’s going to be risky and dangerous,” Journalist Jonathan Choe

Quote II

"He lived his entire life in the service of others. The world has lost a champion for those held unjustly abroad and I have lost a mentor and a dear friend." Mickey Bergman, vice president of the Richardson Center

Over the years I have lived in tiny homes and apartments. Never because I desired "tiny".

What Ever Happened to the Tiny House Movement?
Tiny houses started as a minimalist revolution. They ended up as an Instagram aesthetic.

In 1997, Jay Shafer built his first tiny house: a miniature country chapel with tastefully weathered wood, a high-pitched roof, and tall, crimson-trimmed windows. The exercise was part design challenge, part architectural rebellion. Shafer’s abode measured roughly 12 feet tall and 8 feet wide, less than the minimum size requirements for a house dictated by most building codes.

“Once I learned it was illegal to live in a house that small, I decided I had to,” he said, “just to show that it was actually a safe and efficient and reasonable thing to do.

As I grow older mature I look for ways to improve my life. This is not one of those ways. At least for me, it might do others good.

I Talked To One Stranger Per Day For 100 Days, It Changed My Life Forever

This can help you massively improve your social skills— the more you suck at something, the quicker you improve.

Some decisions change you forever.

I used to be a nerdy gamer kid. Instead of shaking my ass at the club like a fish out of water, I stayed up until sunrise to slay Nofriends, Tormentor of Introverts in my mum’s basement. But at one point, I realized life is more fun in reality than behind a screen.

Ah Labor Day weekend. What would it be without a disgruntled workforce?

It’s been a strike-heavy couple of months, and now video game actors may get brought into the mix.

Per Deadline, SAG-AFTRA’s board has unanimously voted to authorize a strike in case its upcoming bargaining meeting with the games industry falls through. The voting process will take place from Tuesday, September 5 and last all the way to Monday, September 25. According to the outlet, the negotiation will include companies such as Activision, EA, Insomniac Games, and WB Games.

Give-A-Fuck-Meter? Broken.

You have to fight for your right to party. Or to hold it where "The Man" can't spy on you.

New York City – The New York City Police Department announced plans to fly surveillance drones over the city this Labor Day weekend to monitor outdoor parties or barbecues following complaints about large gatherings according to Fox News.

The decision was revealed during a security briefing addressing J’ouvert, an annual Caribbean festival marking the end of slavery in which thousands of people take to the streets of Brooklyn.

Assistant NYPD Commissioner Kaz Daughtry said at a press conference Thursday that the drones will respond to “non-priority and priority calls.”

He's really not that bad. There is a slight period of acclimation that he needs to be the immigrant we all want.

A man who entered New York City just two months ago after living in Venezuela has become a poster boy for the migrant crisis after he was arrested six separate times, often for violent attacks. He arrived in the city just about two months ago, first coming in on June 27.

Study Shows Journalism Is ‘Most Regretted’ College Major As Trust In Corporate Media Sinks

At a time when the majority of Americans recognize the corporate media are dishonest, journalism tops the list of the 10 most regretted college majors, according to a ZipRecruiter survey from last November that CNBC republicized on Sunday. A whopping 87 percent of journalism graduates regret their degree choice, with sociology, liberal arts, communications, and education next on the regret list. Of job seekers with college degrees overall, 44 percent regret their chosen major.

Not a single one of the obituaries I read mentioned that Richardson offered Monica Lewinsky a job when he was UN ambassador, that he was under investigation for paying off a woman using $250,000 in campaign funds when he ran for President in 2008, and that Virginia Roberts Giuffre said that she was sexually trafficked to Richardson by Epstein and Maxwell when she was underage.

You think that the State Media would have kept silent about similar accusations about a prominent dead Republican in an obituary?

Issued an apology they did. Good on them but they really should have known better.

I was touring the South Island of New Zealand once, and the cops set up a DWI checkpoint outside of Christchurch.

I forget the exact numbers, but the cops announced that they had caught 57 people on Friday night, 43 people on Saturday night - and one guy who they caught both Friday and Saturday night.

83 Willowing Bourbon (would make an OK label, really): under the "old" (correct) rule, bourbon did not have to be distilled in Kentucky. It had to be aged in Kentucky, in new oak barrels. Tanker trucks full of raw grain spirits arrive in Bardstown all day long, to be racked up and warehoused. A lot of it comes from Peoria. It becomes legal Kentucky bourbon.

On a related note, the new "Bardstown Bourbon" company is a wholly owned creature of the Pritzker family, they of the Illinois governorship and trans-activist movement. Except for the fine old "Old Bardstown," which is a Willett label and named after a race horse.

I have been to their brewery. Kind of an out of the way place. But if you want to make a point, go Yuengling, not Miller Light or Coors Light.

I actually think that's a good comparison. It doesn't lesson Hitler's Evil to say that Stalin was just as great a mass murderer as Hitler was; possibly even worse.

Hitler saw nothing wrong with killing people he didn't know, but Stalin enjoyed killing the people that he did know the most. Trying to say who was worse, Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union, is like comparing Jeffrey Dahmer to Ted Bundy.

There are complaints in Russia that some of the ex-Wagnerite prisoners are reoffending after doing their six month term in Ukraine and getting their pardon. This ignores the fact that most of the former Wagner ex-convicts are dead.

In the Winter War the Soviets liquidated many of their political prisoners - sending them with little training or support against entrenched Finns in the winter. The survival rates in these penal units was very very low.

I suspect these penal battalions fared better but who knows.

Honestly future books from Russian/Uke soldiers on their experiences should be interesting.

I remember it well. Never mind that, while utterly horrible, the statistical likelihood of someone in a stereotypical kidnap van snatching your kid off the street is something like getting hit by a meteor. Kidnapping and sexual abuse are overwhelmingly perpetrated by people known to the child. Yet we got brainwashed to believe sex offenders were behind every rock and tree, and we were just one step away at all times from getting Adam Walshed. It was pretty fucked up.

The only innovation in the Ukraine War was to privatize the strafbats.

It was while investing with the company that I learned about Modelo and corona. They also invested in really cheap American wines, but the interesting part was they made a turn off these cheap wines.

As Hordians know, I never give stock tips. But this company was an extreme winner for me. The thing these guys have above anyone else is they own corona and Modelo. They also invested a ton in marijuana which I think was a huge mistake. We will see. I don’t invest in them now but 10 years ago these guys were the best I ever chose.

Could be a Puckwudgie (correctly pronounced in Eastern Algonqian as POOK-a-wooojie), a small 3.5-foot tall hairy biped with trickster intentions.

There was one encountered in Raynham, MA a few years back (via Proquest/Boston Globe):

It was a late-night walk in a Raynham neighborhood silent and still, lost in sleep.

Suddenly, William Russo's dog, Samantha, began to shake and quiver -- as he describes it, "rattlin' like an old Chevy."

Russo looked around, listened, and finally heard what was terrifying her.

"Eh wan chu. Eh wan chu. Keahr. Keahr."

A sort of high-pitched wail.

And then he saw it.

Illuminated in the circle of a street light was a creature unlike any he'd ever seen: 3 to 4 feet tall, potbellied, big-eyed, covered in hair, unclothed...

Born & raised friendly in Oklahoma. In the course of things, MiladyJo and I moved to her home city of Chicago for many winters. And lived to tell tales.

One day her brother and I were taking a walk around our long block. He noted that I would say hi to people as we passed. I was amused that it was notable. (He was so Chicago that he got tear-gassed in the '68 Dem convention.)

Walking to the store one day, I was passing a little old grammama with her cart, bundled up, looking steadily downward. At a safe distance across the wide sidewalk, I said some kind of hello. She glanced up to check me out and quickly eyes down again. Having processed that I was not a threat, she looked back up and gave me the nicest smile. I treasure that smile.
