The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“Eliminating generational incarceration through education, by restoring value, hope, and purpose to our inmate population,” Genesee County Sheriff Christopher Swanson

Quote II

“I was a leader in the search for Bowe Bergdahl after he deserted his post and we subsequently lost men looking for him. Not only did we lose brave service members, but then-President Obama also traded five terrorists in exchange for his release.” Retired colonel Rep. Michael Waltz (FL)

Quote III

"There is certainly concern with the US consumer that shows up in their sentiment, but our business and our value positioning in the market has put us into a good position to be able to weather that and continue to drive the share gains that you’re seeing," McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski

This should certainly grab their attention for a moment or three.

Megadonor pulls $400k annual gift after ASU ousts prof who hosted conservative speakers

Megadonor Tom Lewis pulled his $400k annual donation over 'left-wing hostility.'
“The university is just intolerable of the voice from the right, and we learned that in spades when we put on this event with Charlie Kirk and Dennis Prager, and it just drove them crazy,” he said.

The Fabulous and I recently attended a concert. We were both pleased with the band and the show. I can't imagine spending big bucks (IMHO) to see a show and throw something at the person I want to see.

In the latest incident of musicians dealing with items being thrown at them during their shows, Cardi B took a stand after she hurled a microphone at a concertgoer who had splashed her with a drink during her weekend performance.

On Saturday, at Drai’s Beachclub in Las Vegas, the Grammy-winning artist found herself in a situation familiar to many musicians in recent years: dealing with items being shamelessly chucked at them. Unlike many, Cardi is a force to be reckoned with and couldn’t let this slide. After a brief moment of realization, Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar Cephus, known simply as Cardi B to fans, paused her rendition of “Bodak Yellow” and assertively launched her microphone towards the front-row fan who had splashed the artist with liquor.

Always good filler material for an ONT. Embarrassing tats or something to be proud of?

Tatt's embarrassing! Questionable body art proves why some people should be kept away from the tattoo parlour
BoredPanda has compiled a gallery of the world's very worst tattoos
Read More: Hilarious snaps show some of the worst permanent ink disasters

For most people with tattoos, their ink holds a special significance. Alas, for a small minority, they're just a permanent reminder of a not-so wise decision.

People from around the world have shared snaps of the worst tattoos ever, and Bored Panda collated them into a gallery.

There's the man who got eyes tattooed on his eyelids... so it appears he can watch people even with his eyes closed.

The U.S. Population Estimated at 334,233,854 on Jan. 1, 2023. New Profile Analysis Shows As Many As 60% of Americans Now Own Firearms, according to the handy dandy junk drawer calculator that's 200,540,312 gun owners.

A surge in “quiet gun owners,” much like the so-called “silent majority” in political circles, is leading firearms analysts to believe that far more Americans own weapons than the accepted 30% cited in polls.

At the highest end, it’s possible that up to 60% of Americans own guns, especially with the pandemic-era rise in gun buying among women and minorities, especially in suburban and urban areas.

Reason Magazine’s J.D. Tuccille put part of the study in the spotlight in an early July post that began the buzz in the gun industry about the potential of far higher U.S. gun ownership.

Ford could be going the way of the horse and carriage it replaced.

Ford Will Lose $4.5 Billion On EVs This Year, Up From $2.1 Billion Last Year

As we first noted last week, Ford is slated to lose $4.5 billion from its EV segment this year, a $1.5 billion larger loss than the company had expected.

So far this year, the division has lost $1.8 billion and this year's $4.5 billion loss figure blows away last year's $2.1 billion loss. Ford also announced that its electric F-150 pickup trucks will undergo a price cut, according to Fox.

Ford beat earnings on Thursday and reported adjusted EPS of $0.72, beating expectations of $0.54. It posted revenue of $45 billion and adjusted EBITDA of $3.8 billion, above estimates of $3.15 billion. We detailed analyst takes on the report late last week in this piece.

Who needs math when you can dunk a basketball?

Basketball player LeBron James is fielding questions from the Akron Public School Board concerning James’ “I Promise School,” where not one eighth grader could pass the state’s basic math test in three years. Not. One.

LeBron James’ I Promise School, located in Akron, Ohio, is currently facing severe criticism from members of the Akron Public School Board due to a troubling revelation. Recent reports have disclosed that this year’s incoming 8th-grade class has not produced a single student who passed the state math test in over three years.

The shocking news left board member Valerie McKitrick astonished as she expressed her disbelief, saying, “Not one? In three years?” The data presented to her revealed that not a single student from the fall 8th-grade class at the I Promise School could achieve proficiency in the Ohio state math test, per the Akron Beacon Journal.

Parachuting beavers? Yes, parachuting beavers and Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

Parachuting beavers created a fire-resistant wetland

How beavers benefit the ecosystem

Some people have a negative view of beavers: they tear down trees and build dams that can flood the adjacent landscape. In Idaho in the 1940s, officials rounded up beavers from populated areas and relocated them – sometimes by parachute – to remote areas such as Baugh Creek. Now, nearly 70 years later, NASA satellite images show that these areas where beavers settled are lusher, greener, and more resistant to fire and drought.

Parachuting beavers

Some of the areas that Idaho wanted to relocate the beavers to were so remote that there were no roads to get them there. So, they came up with a novel solution. Idaho Fish and Game used surplus parachutes from World War II to drop the beavers into their new homes.

I told Junior-ette's 8th grade math teacher that her so called new math was bullshit and that she could shove it up her ass. I told her principle to her face, sitting to her left, that if my kid got her test, or homework marked as incorrect when she got the answer correct while not following their bullshit new math techniques, that I would sue their asses in civil court for every dime they had or would ever earn. Junior-ette never got another bad math grade and is now earning straight A grades in Calc 3. DoEd can suck my Moron dick.

This is a tough one. I generally hold that people who throw cans, bottles, etc at performers should be beaten unrecognizable by security. On the other hand Cardi B is a despicable waste of carbon, and is defrauding concertgoers by lip-synching. I guess the balance is preserved in this one.

72 Prison alternative are I think a good idea. Housing and feeding someone who can't work...and surrounding them with other crooks...is just not an optimal solution for at least some people we imprison now.

But...you have to include a strong incentive to make the person not want to commit more crimes. Singaporean caning, for example, stands out as a great idea. We didn't hear about any more trouble from THAT kid did we?

But we also need quick and efficient execution for murders/rapists/child molesters.

146 Evening Horde, thx MisHum. The story about the prison teacher arrested for smuggling drugs and other contraband into jail because she was groomed reminds me of the "Shawskank" at Dannamora. Most CEOs and high execs. today are world class grifters. They will say and do anything promote themselves.

Their job is to fellate Wall St. and Government. Nothing is real anymore, and so the people in charge of things have no substance. It turns out that the "club" is mostly people with no skill but lots of connections.

Look at that Bud Light fiasco. That woman had no skill and no talent, and her expense accounts were probably more than most skilled workers make each year. She was play-acting "Brand Manager," why she had never pulled a pint, loaded a truck, spoken to her customers or probably even drank her product. It was all a play. So of course they go woke - they have no substance because the whole business/finance/government economy has been replaced by a house of cards.

The census numbers are criminally wrong so that red states which have swelled in population over the past few decades don't pick up representatives/electoral votes from the blue states.

The fraud is easily found in proxy metrics such as traffic, school rolls, energy/utilities consumption, food volume, medical service, etc.

So... 2.5 million, after 30 years is? 75 Million... or 22% of the population... that would be 22% of the population who was NOT RAISED in the distinctly American Culture.

No society can assimilate that many.... now add in the demographics of Birth rates between Native Born and Immigrants? and it's even worse.

250 True story,

I worked with Paul during my time at Panavision on our sound stage. We hit it off and out of the blue he asked me what my birthday was and there it was, a birthday card from him for the next three years all in the Pee Wee motif.

Actually went up to his house one night for dinner. His living room was stuffed to the gills with Pee Wee related dolls, board games and every other kind of marketing kitsch toy you could ever imagine. He was a very chill dude and talked of doing some serious character roles if the opportunity came to him. Standing outside near his pool that night after dinner, finishing some very fine single malt scotch, I turned and saw the HOLLYWOOD sign literally draped over the top of his yard trees as his house was the last at the top of the canyon below the sign.

Never saw or heard from him again after that night. I don't want to think he was expecting something else to happen but I may have been wrong. Still, he seemed like a good guy to me.

Regarding the McDonald's spin-off restaurant.

I've probably said this here before but one of the failures of globalization is that I can't buy a Japanese or Indian or Russian or freakin'...I dunno...Mauritanian style burger at the gaw'damn McD's down the street. To hell with your McRib, give me your strange and bizarre foreign concoctions. I demand the culinary pleasures of the world right in my back yard!

As for "McCosmos" it sounds like they conceived of the name before the menu. The story implies a sort of "higher end" fast food restaurant. So maybe...what? Six pound Big Macs with bacon, fried egg and avocado? Or, dare I say it, "healthier" fare? My prediction: A few restaurants owned directly by the corporation opening in a few big cities for a few months before being shuttered for low sales yet still be declared a great success for reasons.

Unfortunately there is sin in the world. You can legislate morality, its just that you will also increase the number of law breakers.

If Leviathan would stop subsidizing junkie lifestyle, addicts would still do drugs, but would also do things that increase property crimes to support the habit.

Men would still blow the paycheck on booze and drugs and starve out the spouse and kids and fall behind on the expenses.

Attempts to stop junkies from doing drugs will always fail because the addict wants to be high. The best one could do is exile into isolated colonies and let Darwin finish the job.

Dinnertime in the back should actually be on something similar to that, but I'm guessing Nikki doesn't have the most studious road crew.

Jesse Hughes of Eagles of Death Metal was talking about the overuse of autotune (the real one from the 80s, not the studio one that gives rappers robot voice) where it makes you sound just like the record, but with live audio. So Nikki isn't only talentless, but apparently lazy too.

He also told a story about how someone accidentally crashed a golf cart in to a generator at a big concert, that ran the power to the section with autotune, and the whole crowd was forced to hear Anthony Keidis from the RHCP's real voice.

307 We as a nation, we were appalled when out of abject desperation the Philippine Gov't began shooting drug dealers pretty much on the spot. That is how bad the Meth trade had become there.

Yet one must remember, these evil fucks do not negotiate with ANY Gov't has long as there are willing buyers for their poison's.

The head of the snake doctrine must be employed (war) followed by institutionalization for the worse addicts which given the potency of the drugs makes their recovery near impossible.

We leads me to believe that this not just about drugs but is in fact a form of asymmetrical warfare being committed upon the United States by the CCP in consort with the Mexican Drug Cartels

And IF we had a CIC...(other than Back Room Obama keeping his shady on the low)

Living in various ship's brigs, always being far offshore of the USA. If a ship is heading U.S. bound, it transfers him to another ship, outbound.

And etc., till he dies of old age, neglect, disease, whatever.

Brig, never seeing land, never seeing the USA. Never seeing a U.S. newspaper, never seeing the internet, EVER AGAIN.

Instead, just the thrice per day visits of the brigkeepers with his meals, and a periodic Ship's Corspman visit. Maybe a Chaplain if he's feeling repenant.

But never again shall he ever see even the ghost of the USA on his horizon. Or know of USA news or events.

Most of the debris from gutting it out has been packed away in storage, or burned, or put in the scrap metal bin, as the case may be. Once I get the van loaded on the trailer, it will become a scrap bin, and I will pack it with as much scrap steel as I can find, to get a nice load for the scrap dealer.
