Posted by: OrangeEnt at July 02, 2023 *** Oh, I skipped the dealer's urging of an extended warranty four years ago; that money has gone into the bank. And the red beast is long paid off and has been trouble-free. There is a GM technician website referencing various messages and problems on the cars. Once I know the codes that the car is throwing, I can look them up specifically and get an idea what the remedy is supposed to be. Hell, it *might* be something as simple as disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. Meanwhile I have to be careful while driving that I don't exceed the speed limit with no speedometer and collect a ticket. And I wanted to lift up this post from A.H. Llloyd;
In yesterday's prayer list. I thought it was great spiritual advice from someone he was reading: 120 I find this calming. The first rule of Lorenzo Scupoli's Spiritual Combat is to distrust our own strength. This is why I no longer imagine I know what is happening. I don't. The second rule is to trust entire in God, who is the origin of love and goodness. This is what I am doing. We must then use our faculties properly, shunning sinful things and surrounding ourselves with holy images and beauty. Hate-watching the TV, arguing pointlessly about politics - these open ourselves to wrath and despair. Finally, we must pray frequently. Taken together this combination assures us the victory in the spiritual combat. I often refer to his book to remind me of these things because it is so easy to get distracted. In Kentucky. In the same city as the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. I wonder if they invited the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence to provide the moving Gospel message. I'm thinking of those who would attend. Not exactly a Billy Graham Crusade. Now many nominal Christians would apologize for this and say that the LORD moves in mysterious ways. Imagine someone giving their testimony and how they were saved and it starts with this spectacle of rebellion and sin. Gospel Drag Show Takes Over Episcopal Church.
-- Same as corporations, academia, government, government parties, etc. Conservatives don't understand it or even grasp what's happening because our understanding of "follow your dreams, do what you're good at, and use your talents to improve your life, your family's lives, and the world" is not theirs. They're doing the same, except they don't view their primary dreams and talent as engineering or teaching or design or whatever. Their primary dream is subversion and changing the system. They use learned skills to achieve that dream. We're seeing it now in churches and local political party meetings. "Disillusioned democrats" are not to be trusted or given any positions of influence. As Grump928 said, everyone is happy when the town whore gets religion, but you don't let her teach Sunday school the next wee. Public libraries, too, shut down, and librarians still insisted on the face diaper routine when they did at last open. The big suburban library I go to still has at least one or two older ladies wearing the damn things, and the stupid plastic barrier between you and them. I make a point of going to the clerk who is *not* diapered, and even then I talk to him around the shields.

Imagine where you would be in life today if you hitched a ride with a plumber, electrician, mechanic or HVAC technician. All those trades I'm pretty damn good at except the AC part of HVAC. The reason is I had an actual father who I observed doing repairs - I watched and learned - and if he could do it, I could too. Now my son does his own repairs because he observed me. So it's sad that a certain contingent of society is poorly represented in those trades. Sad but understandable. Fool Otto - I have an unused sprinkler system in my back yard, the valve for which (if there even is one in this Rube Goldberg disaster of a home and yard) is nowhere to be found. One of the heads developed a leak, and due to to the age there is no ready replacement at Home Depot. The water pipe is exposed, so someone just need to cut off the head off and cap it. IN THEORY this is a simple job. But I don't want to do something stupid and cause a bigger problem for myself. If something happens while a plumber is doing the work, I assume he has the knowledge and equipment to deal with it. Also, any unnecessary delay in getting the water back on will not keep me in good standing with the Mrs.

The water pipe is exposed, so someone just need to cut off the head off and cap it. If it's a standard 1/2" supply line, you can buy a slip on cap at either Lowes or Home Depot in the Sharkbite section. A pipe cutter, too if you don't have one. Cut your pipe then mark it 15/16th of an inch from the end. Slide Sharkbite fitting to mark. Turn water back on. The end. Posted by: Divide by Zero at July 02, 2023 08:52 AM (enJYY) 251
