Not a dentist but probably a ripoff. Super special cleaning is usually reserved for severe calculus buildup (higher pressure water cleaning like a Cavitron) or periodontitis (deep cleaning requiring anesthesia).

The fetching Mrs Beartooth did a variety of temp jobs and one of them was helping out Oregon's Dept of Energy with tax credits for certain energy efficient appliances. I believe that story is more urban legend than not. Square wasn't in great financial shape at the time, but the word choice in the title was more a desire for alliteration for marketability. Their first choice, Fighting Fantasy, had copyright issues they wanted to avoid, so the name changed to Final.

There has to be a Web site dedicated to teaching Morse code. You could use the mouse button as a key, at least to start with. That would be a good application for AI. Have a Morse code chat with an AI bot, and gradually ramp up the speed. And the bot could keep track of your errors, and recommend how to focus your work to correct them.

But with all the computing power we have now, why not use a computer app to generate Morse keying from a keyboard? Touch "a" and get "dit-dah". And so on. And the program could work in reverse to copy a CW signal. It "hears" dit-dah, and displays "a" on the screen. And you could have it record the CW as an mp3 file on the drive, so if the copy was buggy, you could try it again, or copy manually.

Holy crap...back in the 90's I dragged an intact SCR-284 Army Radio and I do mean intact with everything still in it's OD canvas bagging and spare parts from my wife's grandmother's attic. Her uncle was Signal Corps and "brought" it home from his time in the Pacific in WWII. I sold it to my cousin who was in to "Militaria" collection items. But that rig was the real deal with the semaphore key pad and hand crank generator...serious the whole works.

Heh. I do know that Morse code for telegraphy differs from that used for radio communication. In wired telegraphy, the sounder only clicks when the key changes state, from up to down. Holding the key down yields no sound form the sounder. In radio telegraphy, hold the key down, and your transmitter sends a continuous wave (hence, CW). The coding is the length of the transmitted pulses.

Every single person associated with that program knew that. Anyone who is remotely associated with the ocean and diving knows about the extreme nature of the deep ocean. It's one of the reasons we go to space instead of the deep ocean, space is easier.
This is our planet and yet more people have been to space than have been to that deep in our oceans and we have been here for a pretty long time. We spend billions to send people into space and we know a lot more about it. They were trying to do something much more dangerous for a fraction of the money.
That vehicle had pipes from a hardware store for ballast and a video game controller guiding the craft. Anyone with an IQ above a rock knew they were flirting with disaster.

Seriously. From the Horde, it would take AOP, Publius, Mike Hammer, several others with some flair for mechanical design and execution, knowledge of Naval (especially undersea) history, and the sense to discern "oh shit, that don't look right" design insight, to have known.
The average, wide and glazed eyed zillionaire who booked onto a tour like that, was not only fucked from the start, but lacked the barest insight as to exactly WHY they were fucked, the moment those hatch bolts were torqued.
A more widely distributed set of similar knowledge, are experienced aircraft pilots. They do tend to know a shitty airframe design at first sight. They're attuned to "what works", and are strongly repelled by designs that "don't".

I guess I learned about under water pressure by watching WWII sub movies. I guess nobody watches them anymore. 'Crush depth' is a thing in those movies. And the best depth was, on average, about 300-400 feet, with some being able to go to almost a thousand feet. That is so much shallower than the 12,000 foot depth the Titanic is located.

I've looked at the design, a lot now.
Though the viewport and it's 3/4" distortion is a prime candidate, my bet is on the glue joint between the titanium and carbon fiber.
THAT, is the least robust point on the whole design. It's not a joint designed to become stronger under compression.
And I ain't read shit about computing the distortion differentials between the titanium caps and carbon fiber hull tube.

I think - not 100% sure - that several submersible companies (and the US Navy) tested some preliminary carbon fiber designs and found them wanting so badly as to not continue to secondary design phases.
That said, the Titan had made 25 dives, just not all to Titanic depth.
With experimental designs, especially one of kind prototypes, the rip it apart tests as done on new models of airplanes can not be done. There is no “line” of identically manufactured vehicles.
So the actual “dive hours before failure” can not be observed.

They did wait a couple hours past that but it's not necessarily fair, absent a debris field on the surface, that they didn't call until the end.

There was a guy from my town who decided to devote his life to doing singlehanded around the world racing. He remains the best American sailor to ever do the sport.
He was lost at sea when his keel fell off and his boat capsized while he was on his way to France for the start of another around the world race. I think we all learn how to do things better from things like that. We are never going to stop going tp sea and exploring. We learn from mistakes.

Plus, all the space movies show what (supposedly) happens to humans in the vacuum of space. I don't enjoy fighting. I don't look for arguments. I'm usually pretty easy to get along with, but cannot stand when unreasonable attacks take place, whether against myself or others. Ugh.
