Saturday Morning Coffee Break & Prayer Revival

c0ffee 5 13 23.jpg

I certainly know that I need a cup or 8 of coffee this morning. And no, I won't be adding salt to it. My coffee, like my heart and soul, black and bitter.

***

Before we get into the Prayer Revival just a couple of housekeeping matters:

1) Open thread opine and/or bloviate away your morning.
2) Be nice one to one another the alternative isn't pretty.
3) If you must run with sharp objects perhaps encase them with duct tape, I recommend Gorilla brand.
4) Lastly, have a fun weekend.

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

4/15 – Henry asked for prayers for his neighbor, Henry, who had a stroke about a month ago.

4/15 – Chopperpilot asked for prayers for Josh C., a USMC veteran who’s currently being treated for stage 4 colon cancer. He’s fighting hard.

4/22 – vmom asked for prayers as she considers applying for a different position within her current place of employment.

  • 5/4 Update – vmom was offered the job!

4/22 – gp sends thanks for all the prayers for Brian (old age pain) and Al (loneliness) – she saw the results in their lives and appreciates it so much! She has a new request for her friend Larry, who received a bad news angiogram is afraid.

4/22 – Tonypete asked for prayers for himself and his wife as they continue training to be Stephen Ministers for their Parish.

4/22 - Swodog asked for prayers for his son, who was the student that the “Twerking Teacher” focused on at last year’s prom. The son started at UF last fall but couldn’t focus with all the legal and social media stuff flying around. He withdrew from school and is still depressed. His folks are praying he is able to get better and re-enroll in the fall.

4/26 – Sponge and his family could use prayers of comfort, as his grandmother just passed away. She was just a few months shy of her 99th birthday.

4/29 – Grammie Winger asked for prayers. Her doctor located a mass in her abdomen. She had a CT scan scheduled for 5/2.

4/29 – rhennigantx asked for prayers for his daughter. She needs some help with medical issues and mental issues.

4/29 – Prime Sister requests prayer for her son, Austin, in Singapore, who hasn’t been in touch for 6 months. Please pray he will contact someone soon.

  • 5/8 Update – Thanks so much for your continued prayers. There hasn’t been any contact yet. But she has much more peace about this situation now.

4/29 – Morgan, longtime lurker, offers praise for God’s blessing on his Spanish studies and requests prayer for healing from his auto accident. He also prays for blessings upon the site and its moderators.

  • 4/29 Update – Today he was pain-free! Praise be to God!

5/2 – Cat Ass Trophy’s father-in-law could use some prayers. He was admitted to the hospital last night. He was hit hard by the bronchitis going around. After more extensive tests, it was diagnosed as parainfluenza.

5/2 – Sponge asked for prayers. His father fell over the weekend and hurt himself badly. He has 6 broken ribs, a partially collapsed lung, and a fractured right arm. Some of the ribs splintered, so they will do surgery to insert a plate to stabilize them. His dad wasn’t in the greatest health anyway, so this will take a toll.

5/2 – DaveT asks for prayers. He was trying to save his cats and his home, and then had an unfortunate court ruling, related to a family member who burdened the home with some debt. DaveT is over 65 and not able to work as much as he would like, and the cats have special needs, too (blind and older). He has a GiveSendGo set up, so please email Annie’s Stew for more information about how to contribute, if you would like to donate.

5/3 – Jewells asked for prayers for her niece, who had a biopsy done and they are pretty sure she has cervical cancer. She asked for prayers, please, for her sweet niece.

5/5 – gp asked for prayers for Ivan, who is in the hospital with heart problems. He is a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Thank you!

5/11 – FenelonSpoke again thanks everyone for the prayers and cards and donations to their church. They are blessed by your concern. The latest update is that the township Open Space intends to go ahead with the purchase of the land. However, the township committee still has to approve the purchase, so please continue to keep them in prayer. Thanks and God bless you all!

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

    Romans 8:26-27
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

40 I've been praying for everyone at work. It's a small agency, less than 60 people. Most work remotely or only come in once a week. A few core people are in daily like myself.
We have 4 people whose husbands have cancer. We have 3 girls pregnant. 2 with their 4th child and 1 on her 5th. A few dealing with issues with their elderly parents. Several dealing with personal health issues.
It seems like a lot for such a small group.

Found a dry processed bean from the Bei Poso Village in Flores, also roasted to a City+

For those who are unfamiliar, it has a syrupy sweetness and body. bittersweet juices of the pink grapefruit with the pith of the inside of the peel, notes of tart salmon berry, some leathery earth tones in the aftertaste.

The Sumatra variety would be a bit too muddy tasting for today.

Eromero knows that there was a civil war POW camp just north of Tyler, Camp Ford. It wasn't as notorious, although by the end food was as scarce there as anywhere. It was surrounded by a simple stockade and escape wasn't very hard. But what stopped most from trying was that if you did get out, it was a 900 mile cross country walk back to Federal lines. Not many were willing to try that.

It's been eons, but I seem to recall the British prison ship thing was mostly a response to the fact that the British legal system at the time was incredibly harsh. People given long sentences for stealing loaves of bread, that sort of thing.

The death penalty was being used quite liberally too, because they just had too many damn prisoners. Hence, the ships, and then eventually, they got the brilliant idea of shipping all those unwanted prisoners off to Australia.

Yes. It helps with some leaky gut and food allergy issues and of course gets you into ketosis.
It bumps you out of type II diabetes since that diet gives you nothing to convert into sugar, and makes your liver and fat cells disgorge all their stored sugars, and then allows you to start burning ketones instead.
It won't kill you in the short term, and worst comes to worst steak tastes better than meformin, and you can always go back to eating potatoes if you want to.

167 Haven't read that one, BurtTC, but you're right that for a long time the British system was incredibly harsh. Mainly this was because the ruling classes were too cheap to spend any money on actually building a police force (that didn't start until Victorian times) so instead they just declared incredibly harsh punishments for everything, to keep people in line. This resulted in the infamous case where a 9 year old boy was hanged for stealing a pencil. The judge stated rhat he was probably going to grow up to be a criminal, so best to get rid of him early.

Not that the fascist Googles is very thorough or reliable beyond generating Google ads and left wing propaganda. But any chance you are conflating two cases, one of an 8/9 year boy hanged in the 16th century for arson and some other case of, say, a late teen hanged for petty theft?

I'm down a line of thought recently where it's all the seed oils (polyunsaturated fats) that's causing the diabetes (and just about every other damned thing). It's pretty fascinating. Only been doing it a few months, though.

It shouldn't be this hard to simply eat, but when they're trying to kill you thru deception, you end up doing a lot of research.

These were famously implemented in San Diego, then adopted by New York. Which resulted in significant decreases in crime. Other big cities, the ones run by Democrats, did NOT see reductions in crime, even when they locked up more people for longer periods, and of course these cities are where most of the rot in this country occurs.

There was a 2010 paper that touched on that. Why is HFCS having such an effect on us? After all, when you analyze HFCS in water, as you do with sucrose, you get similar numbers for calories.

HOWEVER...when you analyze HFCS in a light acid, such as you'd encounter in your stomach, the polysaccharides disassociate into their glucose and fructose molecules and you find 4-8x the sugars you were expecting

I should see if I can track that down...

No, it applies to those within their tribe as well. There has been a cultural shift to vindictiveness, a rejection of Christian forgiveness. You apologize, but it doesn't matter. You beg for mercy and they hit you harder.

Part of this comes from Yard Sign Calvinism, where Thomas Sowell's "Anointed" know they are saved, know they are just better, and you sinners need to know your place. But within the group the same dynamic is at work, and friend groups splinter, families break up with alarming regularity.

It's not an "op," it's who these people are now. The Boomer bleeding-heart liberals have raised monsters who are both certain that they are special and can do no wrong but also completely, abjectly miserable because they have no sense of God or true happiness. Everything is a pose, everything is about group acceptance and the only way to rise above anyone is to tear them down.

I was a senior in high school during the first Gulf War. The pages of our newspaper saw spirited debate over whether we should use force, how much force, etc. People argued, made sick burns, but no one was fired, or shunned or canceled. People argued but didn't hate each other.

My daughter attends the same school and had to quit the newspaper staff because only ONE opinion is allowed, ever. Disagree, and they don't even want to talk to you about anything.

Yup. It should also be noted, Alzheimer's isn't diagnosed by tests, it's a matter of adding up the symptoms and saying, "yeah, this appears to be Alzheimer's."

Like everything else, cognitive impairment is on a spectrum. Mild forgetfulness is normal with aging. Forgetting important things is "diagnosed" by the level of it, and Alzheimer's is just one form of it.

373 Gollum is a paranoid schizophrenic with multiple-personality disorder, who is a hardcore addict that can't/won't kick the habit, and a career felon who can't be trusted by anyone who's met him once and lived to tell about it. Maybe the Woke "fans" of LOTR find that sort of persona appealing.

    383 Note re Gollum

Gollum is SUPPOSED to be a vile character, but an empathetic one. You are supposed to hate him for his crimes (killing his friend as his first act, I have heard some content that he eats children) but you are also supposed to feel pity for him. There but for the grace of God, go I. That kind of thing.

391 364 Just a quick note before I go - not sure if anyone saw this, but GAFCON - that is, the traditionalist wing of the Anglican Communion actually voted to split over the Church of England blessing gay relationships. They claim 85 percent of Anglicans worldwide are with them.

Not sure what happens next, but they've basically excommunicated the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Church of England. Strange days.
    =====
Took them long enough. The Archbishop of Canterbury leans so far left he is in danger of falling over. He is a Marxist in shepherd's clothing who flies the rainbow flag, upholds climate change alarmism, disputes the authenticity of Scripture, and defends Mohammedism and everything it entails in the UK right now.
