Armed homeowner shoots naked stranger who attacked him with frying pan A homeowner in rural Virginia will not face charges after defending himself from an unwanted and unexpected visit from a stark-naked stranger who recently tried to break into his home and assault him with a cast-iron frying pan. Authorities in Carroll County, Virginia say the incident happened on the evening of Sunday, February 26th when the homeowner heard a noise coming from the rear of his home. When the man went to investigate, he spotted the unknown woman in her birthday suit coming through his door frying pan in hand. The woman repeatedly managed to hit the man in both his head and one of his hands before he was able to push her out of the house and lock the back door, but the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office reports that didn’t stop the woman from once again trying to gain entry.

One month the local water company misread my meter. I sent them a picture showning how wrong they were and estimated for them, based on the current reading and former usage, what my usage SHOULD HAVE BEEN. It's good to keep tabs like that.

Remember the Spanish Flu, the deadly flu virus that had a very high mortality rate among young people in their prime? That's always been odd, respiratory viruses do not have this sort of mortality rate -- it's maladaptive.
There was a paper out over 10 years ago that argues most of that "young and healthy" mortality was iatrogenic. Sound familiar?
At the time, aspirin was a new wonder drug, poorly understood. They gave doses of it in the range 8g - 31g per day.
That's grams. 8000mg to 31,000g doses. They didn't know what they were doing.

I'm convinced I got it back in Dec of 2019. My then 3 y/o daughter got sick and tested positive of influenza A and B, but got over it relatively quickly. The wife and I, who were both on the high side of 29, got sick right after that and holy fvck was it bad.
I'd had respiratory illnesses before, but nothing that made it hard to breathe for like a week. I *never* go to the hospital, and was damn close to heading in. Took us both out for almost a month.
My health hasn't been the same since. I can't work out like I used to, and I think I have asthma now (never been a smoker and always in good health) even though the VA can't confirm exactly what it is.

I've almost always worked on-site, most of my career. I've related this here before, but when the Coof panic metastasized, our company went remote for a few weeks. After a while we all said f*ck it and returned to the office. Things that needed to get done weren't getting done and we all just missed being together. I'm lucky - I love the folks I work with.

It was funny. 0.4 acres was how long it took it me to get the plow adjusted just right. Then I was through. I wonder how many people around here would know how to adjust a bottom plow. Not too many.
I would've got it plowed it before, but I had to put new points (shares) on and a new shin. Which was hard to find. The moldboards themselves are worn pretty thin, and I'm thinking about getting some new ones. They don't make 'em anymore, but you can still get some. Might better get em while I can.
They run about $150 apiece.

There's nothing like a bottom plow to turn over ground that hasn't been in cultivation for years. Because of modern conservation practices, bottom plows are falling out of use. The last John Deer bottom plow rolled off the assembly line some time earlier this year, I read. No more made.
Some smaller outfits will keep making a few.

What are you lookin' for, Petey? 4 bottom? 5 bottom. More? Mounted? Semi-mounted? Pull type? On-land or in-furrow?
You're gonna need 15 - 25 HP per bottom, depending on size 14", 16" or 18", and soil conditions.
Here, in our soil 4 bottoms is cakewalk for a 110HP tractor. Elsewhere, it would be about all she could pull.

Wow, I'm sitting right now about 5 miles from where John Deere invented the first self scouring plow. Times change.
I used an old JD plow my grandad had when I started farming in 1980. At times to turn over conservation turf to farm, sometimes to trim up around a field. Never used it much, I think when they the auction I think it went for antique value rather than scrap value, maybe.

wow, same here in N IL, some river bottom land and some sandy stuff up the ridge. IIRC my 4230 JD gas tractor was about 100 hp. Could easily plow w/ a 4 bottom unless I got too stupid and got into too wet an area.

Note there he assumes the point H from the above is 4" to the left of center. That's about right for the that setup, but it does vary slightly.
This afternoon, I did that basic stuff, and it took me that 0.4 acres to get it set right. It didn't really matter, because that 8700 is big enough to just force the plow to do what it wants, but leveling and pitch is important. Forcing the plow is inefficient, of course. At optimum, you're using the least of amount of force to pull the plow, without sideways forces to fight.
If the plow was about full capacity for the tractor, you'd need to do the line of pull fine tuning.

FWIW, my wife made the observation more than once that one of the qualifications for the new hires at our children's HS seemed to be physical attractiveness. She had a point, especially for the young woman teachers.
