A shortage of children's pain and flu medication has caused several stores across the country to limit sales. CVS is limiting online and in-store purchases of children's pain relief products to two per customer. Walgreens is restricting online sales to six over-the-counter children's pain medications per purchase. However, the pharmacy chain said there are no limits on in-store purchases. "Due to increased demand and various supplier challenges, over-the-counter pediatric fever-reducing products are seeing constraint across the country," Walgreens said in a statement. So those Roombas aren't so harmless afterall. Your robot vacuums are watching you — and the resulting imagery of your most private moments can, horrifically, get leaked online. As the MIT Technology Review reports, the aptly-named company iRobot, behind the uber-popular Roomba vacuums, confirmed that gig workers outside of the US broke a non-disclosure agreement when sharing intimate photos, including one of a woman on the toilet, to social media. Taking the old saying, "God helps those who help themselves" just a tad too far. A flashy New York bishop, who was famously robbed earlier this year in the middle of a church service, is now facing federal charges over an ungodly scheme that allegedly included swindling one of his parishioners and extorting a local businessman for his own enrichment, prosecutors revealed on Monday. Lamor Whitehead, 45, was arrested and charged Monday with several crimes, including wire fraud, extortion, and making false statements, the U.S. Attorney’s Office Southern District of New York announced. If convicted, he faces upwards of 65 years in prison. Oh yeah, MNF, the Packers won. And Adam Schefter proved he was no jock. Adam Schefter’s lack of athleticism was on full display Monday night. The popular ESPN reporter was in Green Bay for the Monday Night Football matchup between the Packers and Rams, and he decided to give the Lambeau Leap his best shot. How did it go? Well, to Schefter’s credit, he did get at least two or three inches off the ground before fans had to pull him into the stands. The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), with an estimated price tag of $369 billion, has many provisions that make electric vehicles more attractive to motorists, but it’s not going to be the right option for every new car buyer. The public might be wondering whether it is finally time to pull the trigger on an electric vehicle or whether it is better to wait. While the higher upfront costs of the EVs relative to traditional vehicles might be an initial turnoff, a savvy consumer will be paying more attention to the total cost of vehicle ownership. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, EVs cost about 4 cents less per mile in maintenance costs, as there is no engine oil, timing belt, oxygen sensor, or spark plugs to take care of. Compared to a gasoline vehicle, EVs’ cost of ownership might equal that of a gas vehicle after 5 to 8 years of use even without a subsidy, as suggested by a study published in a leading peer-reviewed journal. You too can potentially be a millionaire. And before someone gets weepy at me, I looked up the rest of his statement to confirm or deny my suspicions. They know how far, and how fast each truck has to go, and can design routes based on the electric trucks' limitations. I see the gas-powered Grumman vans used here, and they stop the engine each stop, alight from the vehicle, drop mail in the box, re-enter the vehicle, fasten their seat belt, restart the engine, and drive 50 yards down the road, rinse and repeat. Posted by: Beartooth at December 20, 2022 11:39 PM (PX01u) Yep. Standard equipment in Alberta. The little heaters that plug into the side of the block in place of a core plug work better. Head bolt heaters are pretty much antiques now, and many newer engines don't even have exposed head bolts. They also make circulating heaters that you can plumb into a heater hose, but they cannot be used on engines that have automatic valves to control water flow through the heater. Back in the Model T era, people used to drain the oil out of their cars upon arriving home, and keep it in a pail by the wood stove, so it kept nice and warm, and would pour the warm oil into the engine when they had to start it on a cold morning. Ethylene glycol "permanent" antifreeze did not become commonplace until the mid-to-late 1930's. Before then, alcohol was used.

Me At least it was only one rib this time. AmericanKestrel Sounds like you have a story this evening. Make it a good one. When I fell and bruised ribs on the poolside chair, years ago, that was exciting. When I fell down the back steps at Mom's last year, that was a helluva tale. When I got tripped by the dog's tether and landed hard, earlier this year, that was terrific. This time, looking to see what the dog was doing, I just turned and leaned over on a rail wrong. Heard a CRACK and felt like a dang fool. What I especially like about busted ribs is how, for some reason, I really need to cough a lot - which hurts like heck. Nature's way of laughing at us. Rum? Have zero idea about cooking with rum, so really have nothing specific to offer.
However, if anyone in the household either already does or would like to try developing a liking for good sipping rums, vs. mixers, I have a few ideas. Foursquare from Barbados easily has the best selection of reasonably priced yet actually very high quality aged rums, and I'd think all of the following would serve well for cooking. Assuming not a whole lot of rum is used in the recipe. Doorly's 12-year; Doorly's XO; R.L. Seale's 10-year. All aged, no additives, varying finishes, all excellent, all under $30. Buy one of these for the cooking, and then enjoy the rest of the bottle a small glass at a time. Posted by: rhomboid at December 21, 2022 02:00 AM (OTzUX) 456

Ian Galt, which Flor de Cana have you tried? The 12- and 18-year are on my (fairly long) "to try" list. Note: I believe Flor de Cana, as many Spanish-style rum producers, uses a solera system (rums from different years constantly blended, which achieves consistency over time), so the numbers used on the bottles represent *the oldest* rum in the mix, without specifying a % thereof. A "true age statement" would be, for example, the Doorly's 12-year mentioned in my previous comment. This means that *the youngest* rum in the mix is at least 12 years old.

Bear I actually haven't yet had either (Flor de Cana or El Dorado), but they're both considered among the best sippers, though with very different styles. Flor is column still, solera, Spanish-style, El Dorado is Guyana Demerara, with I think a mix of pot and column still rums.
One thing that might interest you. Apparently El Dorado has been listening to many rum afficionados, bloggers, etc over the last few years. They reformulated their 15-yr with much less sugar added (dosage). The premium rum market isn't splitting, but there various "lanes", and many consumers of higher-end stuff strongly favor rum with no additives. Independent observers and the Finnish and Swedish alcohol import authorities do hydrometer tests, which lets consumers see which rums have additives (principally sugar), and how much. So far I like rums from both "lanes", and expect I'll always have some of both in the cabinet. Posted by: rhomboid at December 21, 2022 02:21 AM (OTzUX) 470

Ian Galt if you ever have the chance to sample some of the better sippers, don't pass it up. There's a yuuge range and variety in flavor profiles, you'll probably find something you'd like straight. The Doorly's 12-yr I've mentioned is very easy drinking, and in the Spanish style lane there is Canasteros 21 (Colombian) and South Bay (a blend of Dominican rums). I'd bet most people would be surprised how much they liked these straight, or on the rocks.

DDS,
Thank you for the prayers and good wishes. El Jefe loved Christmas like no one I’ve ever known. When we were first married, he was sorta normal about Christmas, but as we got older and had a little larger bank balance, he started buying me 100 gifts. He didn’t give gifts at any other time of the year, no birthdays, no anniversaries. But Christmas, he went berserk. And you never know what you’d get. He collected them all year and kept them in his closet. A pair of earrings, then a spatula because you happened to mention ( back in April) that the one in your hand was getting old. Then a pair of scissors, then a beautiful purse. Then a pack of pencils or blow bubbles (just for fun). Then a new dress. Or a book. Or a tin of Almond Roca. It took me almost all day to open them. We had to take breaks for homemade cinnamon rolls and lunch. He wrote a letter to the family every year about our year and it was beautiful. I’ve never known anyone to love Christmas like he did. I think I'm going to quit the tree for the night and let Mrs B do her thing with it. We do it in shifts. I get the starships on it, then she puts her stuff on, then we'll do all the other stuff to fill in the gaps. We didn't have the tree last year because of the move, so we had smaller trees all over the house, which was kinda nice. One of the jokes from last year was she put one in the corner of of the jacuzzi platform in the ugly main bathroom. This bathroom is as ugly as the day is long, and is sooo outdated. I'll redo it next year. I told her even though the tree was plastic that bathroom would kill it dead, and if it ends up missing it probably committed suicide, so if you hear the bowl flush in the middle of the night you know what happened. lol

Posted by: Ranger Gord at December 21, 2022 03:19 AM (AKBA0) Here in NYC, the 'public service ads' are currently recommending people mask up for the Holidays and to make sure your boosters are up-to-date as they are 'safe and effective'. It's almost as if the NYC Health Commissioner doesn't follow the news about the 'vaccine's' effectiveness nor about SADS (Sudden Adult Death Syndrome) after being given the clot shot. Almost. IMAO, the Dempanic never left, just went into suspended animation for a bit. They are gearing up for another round of mask-wearing, business-closing mandates 'for our safety' as if anyone thinks the government actually wants to protect them. We know they'll never give up trying to kill us off/screw us over. Question is, will TPTB get away with it this time? Posted by: RickZ at December 21, 2022 03:29 AM (emlEe) 494
Mike Hammer, That No-Name storm did a lot of coastal damage up here too.
Bers, I used to have little trees all over the house, not quite as motivated this year. Good night, Horde, I need some sleep, up early tomorrow, about three hours from now. Yikes. Posted by: Debby Doberman Schultz at December 21, 2022 03:38 AM (a4EWo) 495
Thanks Mike Hammer and others for commenting. Appreciate it. I guess my point is that, because of the storm, whether it’s exaggerated or not, it will result in Dems/libs celebrating another year where families are not getting together.
Just imagine how many calls and texts are being made right now saying ‘you better stay home for your safety’. However, they may never be made up. Remember, the Left hates families. Posted by: Ranger Gord at December 21, 2022 03:50 AM (AKBA0) 496

Families are totalitarian governments everywhere's worst nightmare. They compete against The State for the minds of children. Can't have that now, can they? I get paid over $85 per hour working from home with 2 kids at home. I never thought I'd be able to do it but my best friend earns over 10k a month doing this and she convinced me to try. The potential with this is endless.

I've always hated the lack of precision in the word "American". It's use to describe someone from the USA is annoying simply because it's imprecise.
However, it's kind of all we have. We keep losing words that quickly and succinctly sum up a concept, and they keep getting replaced with literal paragraphs of speech. What's to replace it? United Statesian? US American? Person from the United States of American? There's no good replacement for it. I don't necessarily disagree that it's a "less than optimal" term, but there kind of isn't a real good replacement for it. Posted by: Goober at December 21, 2022 10:50 AM (Hgvgt) 504
