The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

How does the most sophisticated financial system in the history of civilization allow a virtue-signaling nerd to nearly wreck it? Where were the Federal Trade Commission, the Department of Justice, the IRS, and all the other alphabet soup agencies that supposedly exist so that someone like Bankman-Fried does not? Where is Merrick Garland and his special prosecutors, the FBI with its televised SWAT swoops and leg irons? Victor Davis Hanson

Quote II

“This is what happens when you inject a population with a bioweapon…The expose example just revealed United States government data. By our own government’s admission – now this is about our children, COVID-vaccinated children are 4423% more likely to die than unvaccinated children. But our press won’t tell anyone about this. So what you have is this endless stream of propaganda, story after story after story that has parents leading their kids to the front of the line to get this injection that literally makes them 4423% more likely to die than people who haven’t had this shot,” Stew Peters

Quote III

“We’ve changed the looks of his groin forever, if you know what I mean,” Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd

But he has Jewish roots, so that should be taken into account, amirite Your Honor?

One of two men accused of plotting to attack New York City synagogues is Jewish and the grandson of a Holocaust survivor, his attorney claimed in court Saturday.

Matthew Mahrer, 22, was ordered held on $150,000 bail at his arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court on charges of criminal possession of a weapon though his lawyer asked that he be released on his own recognizance.

“There are a lot of questions here,” defense attorney Brandon Freycint said of Mahrer, who has allegedly been diagnosed with autism, bipolar disorder, anxiety and ADHD.

“My client is of Jewish heritage. He resides with his parents and his grandfather is actually a 93-year-old Holocaust survivor — and my client is his part-time caretaker,” Freycinet said.

Talk is cheap. Back up your babble Cornell University President Martha Pollack. I for one am not holding my breath.

Cornell University President Martha Pollack promised that students who shut down Ann Coulter’s speech earlier this month would face consequences.

Pollack confirmed during a Nov. 15 assembly meeting that the students, who were warned and escorted from the event for preventing Coulter from speaking, would be referred to the Office of Student Conduct” who would then assign “punishments.”

“I will just be honest, I think this was a really stupid move,” Pollack said of the protest in an audio recording obtained by The Cornell Review. “Ann Coulter’s basically irrelevant at this point… and this is exactly what she wanted.”

Elon Musk continues to be a burr under the saddles of Democratic Communist Senators.

Elon is pointing out in a way that words alone can’t that the Democrats are hypocritical for whining and raving about Twitter while ignoring a real scandal—the collapse of the cryptocurrency exchange FTX, and the tens of millions donated to their coffers by its founder, Sam Bankman-Fried. As my colleague Nick Arama reported, Chair of the House Financial Services Committee Maxine Waters was asked if Dems who received campaign cash from FTX should give it back. Waters: “Well, I don’t want to get into that.”

TOPLINE The U.S. men's national soccer team tied Wales 1-1 Monday afternoon in its first World Cup match in eight years, leaving the Americans' hopes of advancing to the group of 16 uncertain as the team prepares for high-stakes matches against England and Iran.

Back in my day when my kids were small I wouldn't have let them be pigs in public. Yeah, I know, get off my lawn.

Mother Is Handed A Dustpan And A Brush To Clean Up After Her Baby, Wonders If That’s Unreasonable

It’s no secret that babies are notorious for creating food messes left and right. Especially when stressed-out parents are trying to feed them in a highchair out in public, whether that’s in a nice restaurant or a child-friendly establishment.

While all messes can be cleaned, the debate about who is responsible for sweeping up the bites the child plops on the floor is a never-ending one. And one story on the British parenting forum Mumsnet exemplifies this perfectly.

Kevin, why didn't you push your pal Paul Ryan and others in the GOP when you were in the majority? Oh wow, you can play petty politics too, way to go Kev.

On Sunday, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) reaffirmed a previous promise to take action against several far-left members of Congress who currently have seats on important committees despite dangerously radical beliefs.

Axios reports that, in an interview on Fox News, McCarthy promised to remove at least three prominent Democrats from their committee assignments: The aspiring House Speaker said he would “not allow” Congressmen Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) and Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) to serve on the House Intelligence Committee any longer; he also said he would have Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) removed from her position on the Foreign Affairs Committee, due to her history of “antisemitic comments.”

Who has the biggest wiener? Obviously tonight's Genius Award Winner.

SAN DIEGO — A 21-year-old hot dog vendor was arrested for stabbing a person after an alleged turf war between out-of-town vendors set up outside Petco Park late Saturday night.

San Diego police responded to 10th and K Street in the Downtown area of San Diego around 10:30 p.m. Saturday following reports of a large brawl involving 10-15 people, according to an officer on scene.

Duke Dumont played at Petco Park before the incident was reported, which drew a crowd of thousands of people and typically also provides an opportunity for local vendors to feed hungry concertgoers in search of a quick and tasty bite.

Although everyone outside Ukraine is now agreed that it was an errant Ukrainian anti-air missile that killed the two Poles, Ukraine refuses to acknowledge that, refuses to extend condolences to Poland for the two people killed, and refuses to apologize for trying to start World War Three by saying that it was clear that Russia attacked Poland, and demanding that NATO immediately retaliate against Russia for this "Russian" attack.

Worse, even? The 'bro-country' thing, where supposed C&W performers in sneakers and gimmie caps intertwine cRap into their pseudocountry committee written tribal gruntings with a twang tracks.

ABBA was/is straight up talent, unpretentious, entertaining, catchy and fun. They didn't try to pretend to be anything other than what they were, and they topped many a chart doing just exactly that. Favorite music? Not by a long shot.

But I don't reach out to change the station when their stuff comes outta the speakers.

We went out to lunch prior to diving into the legal paperwork, and during the conversation he opined about the "irrelevancy of Trump, post mid terms. As opposed to letting sleeping dogs lie, I jumped right down his throat...nicely, but pointedly.

He tried to make the case that Mike Pence would be a better representative for the Republican party going forward. Again, I pointed out that Pence was, at best, controlled opposition; handled the Covid Task force poorly; and let the Jan 6th folks rot in prison.

After a bit of hemming and hawing, he waived the white flag by saying" "Let's change the subject".

144 Regarding cleaning up after small children in restaurants, when I was young I worked as a waitress. First, customers with messy kids always left really big tips because they felt guilty. Second, it is super easy to clean up a table or booth. It doesn't make much difference how messy it is. For the table, you remove the dishes and paper trash. Then you wash it off with a big, wet rag. Then you use a broom and dust pan to sweep up whatever is on the floor. The amount of mess doesn't really increase your work because you have to do those things anyway.

Yes, Elias and the DNC, along with McCain Republicans - have sued to try and force Cochise County to certify their votes and not go forward with any audit or recount. A Cochise recount is probably not going to change the election winners as they stand now. There has to be a reason the DNC chose Cochise to make a stand - maybe Dave in Fla can provide a reason, but I don't see it benefiting the Dems like challenging a Maricopa or Pima
County recount would.

I was just reading some good descriptions of what FTX was. It was basically a private central bank, a private money printing operation. They created this "tokens", these crypto entities, out of nothing, and then claimed they were worth billions. They were creating money out of thin air.

And this was all for the benefit of the Deep State and Democrats. Ukraine was also part of this mess as well.

SBF was just their lackey for this. He was the son of a some well-connected Deep Staters and motherWEFers.

265 Funny dosing the water supply is mentioned, just thinking about this the other day.

Back in the 90s, when the world wide web was new fangled thing, somehow I stumbled onto the John Birch Society webpage. I'd "heard" they were nuts, by the usual suspects in media or maybe academia. Seems to me possibly some charges of anti-semitism.

And then the "Flouride in the water is a Communist Plot!" thing.

It got me to wondering recently, how much of that is true "misinformation", as the popular word today. Their website and "what we believe" sounded pretty dead nuts on to me, and explained a lot. I'm not sure Eisenhower and Marshall were Reds... LOL. Did they claim that? "Who Lost China?" is an important question.

Flouride is claimed by the conspiracy theorists to screw up brain function, and make people docile. Doesn't seem to be working? I dunno.

I do know I've never had any dental cavities, while my parents had plenty, Dad had hardly any teef by the time he passed. But I've wondered if there was something going on with that - to try and discredit what appears to be a very prescient organization, who we should have listened to back then.

Farscape, Babylon 5 and Stargate were good SF, but the writing was a bit stilted on the people side, the parts weren't written like real people talked. Farscape did do better after a while but these three series had the problem that the plot drove the characters' decisions, not the other way around.

Firefly was far better on fleshing out characters, and having them cope with problems instead of pushing the plot and action, though it was starting to go into soap-opera at times.

Not because I think Trump is the best choice for president, but because the GOPe has run 3 elections in a row against him and candidates he supports, and has proven yet again that they would rather a democrat in office than a MAGA republican. The best choice Trump could have made after 2020 was to start a 3rd party. The counter argument was "But the GOP has the fundraising and the third party will dilute votes! Transform from the inside" It is clear now that is not possible. The GOP must die and anyone from leadership should be barred from the new party.

We had this thing called Trapper's Rendezvous in Kansas in February. Black powder rifle shoots, orienteering, some other stuff I forget. But it would be cold, Midwest February cold. Well one time my troop was there and we knew it was going to be cold so we put the trucks and campers in a big ring and set a few trees worth of wood into a giant bonfire that we kept all night. And by 10-11 pm it started snowing pretty good but we were prepared.

Well we saw some lights approaching around midnight and this bundled up park official starts coming into our camp to tell us the whole event was getting shut down. There was a temp advisory, something like -10F and we were in a blizzard. Imagine his face when he saw a bunch of boys in shorts and no shirts horsing around a 20 foot bonfire sweating because it was so warm. Probably 90F in our camp. But we packed up and left the next day because no fun stuff.

I have a shocking update on the bathroom repair. Well shocking to me. I removed the flange pipe to find out what was under it. Well a big hole. But the hole is through tile which I knew but under the tile? More tile! What I was guessing was a sub floor was just more tile. And under that tile? Four inches of concrete. I don't understand home construction. But apparently my 80yo house is a slab of concrete suspended above the earth on some brick pillars and the perimeter brick foundation.

What this means for me is I have no subfloor to repair. But I found this thing you can buy and install over a broken flange pipe with tabs that go out and I can then just screw that through the tile and concrete with tapcons. You put a wax ring under it and it's made out of steel. Steel so some rust potential but it will at least give me a firm foundation for the toilet and a proper seal. I'm going to expando seal the hole first with stuff foam and altogether that's better than what this toilet has had for decades. For decades the toilet wasn't fastened to anything but the pipe.

360 My theory is that the house originally had a cast iron pipe with a moulded lead flange. That looks like what old homes had. So when someone replaced that with PVC they never fixed the concrete to work with a 4" pipe. They just put a PVC flange pipe on the PVC then fastened the toilet to the pipe and so of course it was going to move around and break. Because it was never connected to the flooring of the house!

You don't suppose the house was slab-built at another location, and subsequently moved to its present site, and set up on piers and a perimeter wall? Pouring a hanging concrete floor would be tricky. I know it is done all the time for high-rise towers, but they have special forms for that work.

I'd be tempted to get a video cam or a borescope, and examine the underside of the concrete to see if it was poured on dirt or gravel, or on a form.

I could just go down into the crawl space and look up. In fact the bathroom isn't too far from one of the openings. Maybe someday. And it may just be the bathroom that has a concrete slab. There seems to be some fibrous material below the concrete which could have been a plywood form.

No, the one it had was broken so I had to remove it. So my first order of business is to buy a new one. But unfortunately there is nothing to fasten this flange pipe down to. It's floating on top of a quarter inch lip of old tile. So that's why I'm getting the steel bracket that bolts down on to of it. I could probably try to pour new quickset concrete around the pipe with some thin foam sheathing around the pipe to allow for expansion and settling.

What I used to see all the time in bathroom floors in really old houses that I did bathrooms in was concrete. They would run nailers along the bottom of the floor beams, then put planking down between the beams, then shape the top of the floor joists to a point, and fill it with concrete. Exactly like this link here- https://tinyurl.com/2ecwwhnx

His 4" of concrete indicates a pour-pan (or predecessor tech) layer of concrete, and not the usual 1" to 1.5" layer of troweled concrete or grout atop the nailed and cross boarded planks.

Posted by: Debby Doberman Schultz at November 22, 2022 02:08 AM (a4EWo)

Thanksgiving is at my brother's house. I'll be lucky if the house is ready for christmas. Kitchen is done, but it's only one thing in a line of other shit that has to be done, mainly cleaning out the family room and getting furniture for it. I didn't even want to do the damn kitchen. I was going to put that off for a few years, but it had a stupid layout. It had a wall oven that was dying, and the cook top was right next to the wall oven cabinet so you couldn't turn the handles on the pots. The fridge wasn't the greatest and the enclosure was too small for a modern fridge. My brother calls me and tells me there would be a massive price increase, so I should order the kitchen and beat the price increase, and because he doesn't exclusively do kitchens anymore he was afraid he would eventually lose the dealership, and then I would be screwed. No way could I afford what these cabinets would have cost out in the world.

388 Berserker.

His 4" of concrete indicates a pour-pan (or predecessor tech) layer of concrete, and not the usual 1" to 1.5" layer of troweled concrete or grout atop the nailed and cross boarded planks.

I'll get his emailed fone pics, and will have him a solution in a trice. This is a VERY common thing here in Galveston, and the fix is damn near automatic once the details are known. (post 1900 storm mansion repairs, aplenty)

The shit I was talking about isn't no 1- 1 1/2" of concrete. The shit I used to rip out was 4-5", and it looked like the concrete they made cinder blocks from. Actually the first time I saw it the plumber on the job called it a cinder base. I hated doing bathrooms in those old houses.

I've seen both, and my late folks' house was the concrete cinder, and their contractor cried TEARS, as they'd bid it as a two day job to complete. LOL.

Still, the correct solution is much the same for both. A one hour difference with an electric jackhammer to clear the way. Once I can stub-up the PVC standpipe to above the finish tile level, the rest is but details.

390 Bers, Not a full renovation, but, I am mighty glad to have new functioning ovens and a cooktop for Thanksgiving. I need a new fridge too, but it is going to have to wait a bit. I have to remove the teeny useless cabinet currently over the fridge.

Yeah they sucked, but it was a way of life for me. The houses I worked in were built between the 1870s and 1930's. I can;t tell you how man cinder bases we broke up. Then because the floor joists were all cut to a peak we ended up sistering all new floor joists, which was just as well seeing the originals would be sagging by that time and we could make the floor level. I don't even want to talk about the plaster, mud job wall tiles and wire lath, lol.

fridge won't fit with the cab in place, huh? welcome to my world. It was a nice enclosure with a full depth cabinet, but it was too low and only had a 34" opening. It was shame really. the original cabinets were older Quaker Made, high end stuff, made like frigging furniture. Had the layout not been stupid I would have had them sprayed and did a granite top, and done a few small modifications and just dealt with it. I couldn't make it work with the wall oven.

394 Bers.

Any home built before 1950 should've been bid as the OMG disaster tech.

After Levitton and slabs, well, you know the rest.

I'll never buy a slab foundation home, ever again.

Oh hell no. There are those levitt slab houses in the next town over. I did kitchen in some of those. Every one was a termite feast, and if you got plumbing problems you are nuclear carpet bombing the floors to run new pipes

396 Your friendly reminder that Donald Trump is the reason this country is injected with a bioweapon. And yes, mRNA vaccines were known to not work and be dangerous. It's why Gates' Moderna never got one approved. But in Trump they globalists found the perfect mark. Or he was in on it.

397 You know, the funny thing about the old plaster houses. In many of those houses the plaster walls are mostly detached from the wood lath by now. I used to hold the hammer flat and do a few whacks along the top of the wall and the whole thing would just come crumbling down. Its like the wire lath on top and floor trim on the bottom was the only thing holding it in place.

398 Bers. We would have had a blast working same crews together in our prime.

But I might've sledgehammered your boombox. I worked more steadily to the sound of the scream of the power tools, which was Metal enough, for me.

Well its kind of a distraction to me, because as soon as I hear music sometimes I'll zone out and try to learn it in my head, which is how I learn 75% of a song to start with. I don't even have CDs in the car.

Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at November 22, 2022 03:07 AM (VwHCD)

405 403, I remember when Trump was going to "drain the swamp", not cower every time the Democrats got mad. He was already impeached, had a Mueller investigation, was spied on, and he didn't realize that whatever he did wouldn't be enough.

Guess what? He got impeached again! A leader leads, he doesn't act like a pussy.

So now you're saying Trump is a coward. Not stupid, not in on it, just a coward.

Let's vote for him.

411 "How does the most sophisticated financial system in the history of civilization allow a virtue-signaling nerd to nearly wreck it? "

I have said repeatedly that VDH is like 50 years out of touch. He's noticing things and asking questions that would have been more useful in the 60's.

Look, what is going down is a done deal. We don't know who is going to win but the Thunderdome became inevitable with the late 60's cultural/institutional/political changes, the 70's financial shennanigans, the early 80's last-shot (in hindsight) at fixing the dollar... culminating with the GOP volunteering themselves into setting up Vietnam 2.0 and paving the way for Obama and the Great Orangemanbad Freakout.

Nobody is "nearly" wrecking anything. We have departed the cliff and the ground is somewhere down below.

I'm not convinced that half the country NOT dying is the better outcome at this point, and suspect that Trump failing kicked a bunch of things loose that ultimately will turn out better than if we'd rolled with more GOP kabuki bullshit and a peaceful slide into wherever the hell the progs had in mind to take us.
