Quote II

“I was on the fence. I think, as a person, but also as a team, I think we stand for integrity and inclusion and diversity, obviously. That was the first thing that came out of my mouth. What goes up. Usually comes down. And in this case. Hard.

Used-car retailer Carvana has taken a beating on Wall Street recently, including Monday when trading was halted due to a turbocharged number of shares trading hands.

By midday Monday, Carvana was trading around $7.50 per share—up from its morning low of around $7.10, but far from its Aug. 15, 2021, peak of more than $376. CNBC pointed out that shares were down by nearly 25 percent Monday morning, which prompted the trading timeout. Since last year, Carvana has had a bumpy ride: regulators have revoked licenses to operate in states such as Michigan and Pennsylvania due to delayed registrations, execs have reported lower-than-expected revenue, and a cooling economy has all influenced the slumping stock.

If you base your daily decisions on Whoopi Goldberg's decisions: You are mentally challenged.

Whoopi Goldberg claims she's quitting Twitter over Elon Musk: 'I'm out'
Goldberg calls Twitter 'a mess' since Musk took over the social media giant

"The View" host Whoopi Goldberg announced Monday that she plans to quit Twitter after billionaire Elon Musk's takeover but said she might come back if she feels "comfortable."

"So it has been a little over a week since Elon Musk took over Twitter and the place, it’s a mess… He also suspended Kathy Griffin for impersonating him on a parody account, which has started a FreeKathy hashtag to trend. I’m — I’m getting off. I’m getting off today because I just feel like, you know, it’s so messy," Goldberg said.

Goldberg said she was tired of "attitudes" that have been blocked and are now back on the site.

If it weren't for bad luck he would have no luck at all.

When Herbert Xia needed to run some errands in Sydney, Australia he didn’t think twice about leaving his car on a nearby residential street.

He parked the vehicle – a rental no less – for just 15 minutes before returning to its side.

Herbert was shocked to discover that a giant sofa now adorned his windshield, seemingly having appeared out of nowhere.

His Toyota Yaris was left badly damaged in the bizarre incident.

111 Willowed - the Republican county clerk in Oregon's third biggest county, which leans Republican, has announced that no meaningful election results will be released until 6 PM Wednesday.

The Oregon Democratic Party is screaming, of course - the way Oregon elections are supposed to work is that Multnomah County (Portland's county) delays its count until they know how many votes they have to steal to offset the Republican majority in the rest of the state.

It's NOT FAIR for another county in Oregon to use that tactic, of course.

The county clerk herself is up for reelection: her opponent is a left-wing Democrat - who currently works in Multnomah County's elections office. Electoral carpetbagging.

180 Attention Iowa Morons :

Remember to vote "YES" on Public Measure #1 on November 8th. This is a vote to amend the Iowa State Constitution to add the right to keep and bear arms. The wording of the proposed amendment is :
“The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. The sovereign state of Iowa affirms and recognizes this right to be a fundamental individual right. Any and all restrictions of this right shall be subject to strict scrutiny.”

I'm told that the measure for the proposed amendment is on the back side of the ballot, so be sure to flip your ballot over and vote "YES" on Measure #1.

This proposed amendment has passed two successive sessions of the Iowa legislature, and if it gets 50% + 1 vote on November 8th, it will be added to the state Constitution.

But there is a caveat to my self-deprecating caveat.

The GOP should have long since been making enormous, sustained, relentless noises and aggressive public attacks on any number of key topics. Because it matters. Not just for the morale and outlook of reasonable people - who are often buried in this garbage, and have to stay silent or pretend to go along. But because overall direction on many topics is affected by the public framework - which the GOP and others do *nothing* to alter, back in the sane/rational direction.

223 The vote in New Mexico for the most part is a done deal except for the CD #2 (Las Cruces and southern NM in general). The Democrat Mafia jiggered CD #2 to remove the Republican areas and pack them into CD #1 and CD #2 where they will have absolutely zero chance of making a difference.

Even with that the incumbent Republican candidate is making it difficult for the selected Dem winner. Even if the Republican wins I am fully expecting a protracted vote counting period with the Dem makes a stunning and unexpected come from behind win just like what happened in 2017.

In 2017, the Dem had lost on election day and for the next week and a half still was losing when out of the blue the Dem won by a handful of votes all found by magic in a handful of very poor, predominantly Hispanic precincts here in Las Cruces. It was almost like there was a script or something.

224 Its the close ones that are going to be stolen. Somebody finds a couple of election boxes in the trunk of a car. Somebody finds a bunch that fell behind a filing cabinet. And unless Repubs have sufficient number of watchers prepared to sit out two weeks, at least, of these dirty tricks, we are screwed.

Yup, here we go. Beginning sometime tomorrow every Dem from Vegetable Joe on down will scream for weeks, "Every vote MUST be counted!"

In other words, if a flap from a Rice Krispies box with "I vote for (fill in the blank)" scribbled on it is delivered by mail to the state's mail-in vote counting center, the Dems will insist the votes on it be counted. "You cannot disenfranchise a voter who made his best effort to exercise his sacred right to vote!"

All of the State courts in PA, AZ, GA, NY, NV, MI, WA, and OR will say, "Yup, it's a valid ballot. Count the votes on it or you go to jail for contempt!"

And what do those normies take away from that? Well...maybe the right aren't literal NAZIs...but they must be pretty bad if they won't even defend themselves let alone get mad at the people yelling at them.

278 Hrothgar, I don't think so. Last senator to have that sort of knowledge was Byrd. Once saw an epic drama with Byrd pitted against the Senate parliamentarian of the day, who might have been Bob Dove (Dole guy). Byrd prevailed - I kid thee not - on the basis that footnotes in the Rules of the Senate, had different precedence depending on whether they were denoted in Roman, or arabic, numerals. That guy really really knew the rules.

I'm sure McConnell's got an excellent tactical understanding of procedure - as well as many other positive attributes. It's just this niggling little quibble about him - that he doesn't seem to share any interest in intelligent policies for the country - that's the problem.

this is the original, recorded in 1960 (originally written in 1952)

I guess it is good to question, but the 60's were more about "anything goes, reject all tradition, open your mind to ?" 87 sexes, trannies, etc. No, I think the "zeitgeist" of the 60's was mostly evil, not an enlightenment. Fed Gov does this all the damn time... morphs the meaning of words to give themselves more power. Like how 'INTERSTATE' changed from commerce between States, to mean one rancher on his own land growing chicken feed for his own chickens.

Most interesting place back then was a German restaurant, ABC, on Calle Lavalle, which you'll know as one of the main pedestrian streets downtown. Waiters/staff were old German guys. Who'd arrived in B.A. via ..... as crewmen on the pocket battleship Graf Spee, trapped by the Royal Navy in Montevideo early in WWII, "interned" there (neutral country). In other words, the luckiest Germans of WWII.

At the time the standard of living in Uruguay and urban Argentina was world-class, and, well you know the place, the climate, etc. Sure beats slogging up against the third Red Army defense line on the northern part of the Kursk salient.

If the House goes massively red and the makeup is sufficiently conservative and ready to go to war (never a sure thing) Biden is dead in the water (well, except for his handlers ruling by executive order at which point it is up to the States to stop him). Yep. Having 54-55 Senate seats would be really excellent as they would not be up for re-election in 2024. 1/3 of the Senate is in play at anytime which is why it is really difficult to build a majority there. With a Senate wipe out this election and 2 years of serious good governance from both Congressional branches and a complete FJB implosion there is a good chance the expected wins this time could be extended plus the Presidency. There is hope ahead.

Reminds me, I got me an astronomical "app" for the stupid phone. I like it, shows all sorts of solar, lunar and planetary stuff.

What's cool is it shows actual true solar time for your location, also sidereal time. Using true solar time, Noon is defined when Sol is over the meridian, midnight, when it's 180 opposite. The position of the Sun relative to that determines the clock time. Thus the tick rate is not constant, but the clock time is the sun's position.

Now no pregnant women can't be in a few feet for 3 months, small pets and kids not allowed on my lap for too long.

No prob except for the cat, Butterscotch, she loves to sleep w/ me at night. I can easily push her to the side. She's a tramp we took in yrs ago when she was a feral preggers cat then.

We found her 6 kittens other homes and then got her fixed. She is still here all these yrs later. Loves to sleep under my right arm cuddled against my body, my old Tortie cat.

493 Today, Gun Owners of America (GOA) and Gun Owners Foundation (GOF) secured a preliminary injunction in federal district court against most of New York's poorly named "Concealed Carry Improvement Act."

The ruling indicated this law has imposed "unprecedented constitutional violations," enjoins the following provisions:
Requiring good moral character
Requiring the names and contact info of spouses and other adults in the applicant's home
Requiring applicants to disclose social media accounts for review
The restrictions on carrying in public parks, zoos, places of worship, locations where alcohol is served, theaters, banquet halls, conferences, airports and buses, lawful protests or assemblies, and the prohibition on carrying on private property without express consent from the owner
The injunction will take effect immediately, despite the State of New York's attempt to delay the injunction.

Gah. No trigger warning!!!!

Flashback to the mid-90s. working a Military Assistance Mission in NW Saudi (30klick from Jordan). Been out in Wadi Dabl a week, beating on a Company XO about how lost he always is. ENDEX and coming back to the compound. Hungry and don't feel like cooking and my houseboy can't cook. So, I stop by Pizza Shiek.

Not bad, but very not good. Dough needs salt, at a minimum, but I am hungry and tired. I place my order and sit down. Now, this place has no Female Entrance. A couple of BMOs (Black Moving Objects, i.e. Saudi females) enter and place and order.

A couple of 10-12 year old boys start hassling the females. So I give the boys a "yah, shebab" and they come to me. Pidgin on both sides and they get that I am American. Had a conversation about Amreeki and not being Muslim and should be shot. There may have been a sweeping of condiments off the table and some chest thumping. The boys did behave after.
