The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

Just call it murder, because that is exactly what it is, and no amount of academic obfuscation will change the fact that these ghouls...these vile and disgusting lumps of amoral protoplasm...are calling for the deaths of babies because their lives might be inconvenient and expensive.

But I will grant them one thing; they are logically consistent! If a life before birth is without worth and can be ended based on the whims of the mother or the state, then it follows that that life is worthless after birth.

Luckily they haven't extended their lust for murder past the newborn stage. That comes in their next paper, titled, "The Jewish Question: How Many Is Too Many?"

Because I cannot see any substantive difference between these people and Aktion 4, the Nazi program of "euthanasia" of the incurably ill, which of course led inexorably to genocide.

After-birth abortion: why should the baby live?

Although it is reasonable to predict that living with a very severe condition is against the best interest of the newborn, it is hard to find definitive arguments to the effect that life with certain pathologies is not worth living, even when those pathologies would constitute acceptable reasons for abortion. It might be maintained that ‘even allowing for the more optimistic assessments of the potential of Down's syndrome children, this potential cannot be said to be equal to that of a normal child’. But, in fact, people with Down's syndrome, as well as people affected by many other severe disabilities, are often reported to be happy.
Nonetheless, to bring up such children might be an unbearable burden on the family and on society as a whole, when the state economically provides for their care. On these grounds, the fact that a fetus has the potential to become a person who will have an (at least) acceptable life is no reason for prohibiting abortion. Therefore, we argue that, when circumstances occur after birth such that they would have justified abortion, what we call after-birth abortion should be permissible.

Amazingly, they open the door to many other murders that they can justify based on their subjective analysis of the worth of a human being. "Potential" being the operative word! Doesn't that allow for the culling of low potential children?

Okay kids, this IQ test is pretty important, because the bottom 25% of you will be killed!

And why not extend this eugenicist's wet-dream to the parents of those low-potential children? That way society can minimize the possibility of more dumb kids being born.

The unalterable fact is that all human life is valuable, and any attempt to qualify it leads to unimaginable evil. It is not up to us to judge the worth of a child, whether he is in the womb or in the hospital nursery.

And let me dismiss the leftist counter-argument that we have capital punishment, therefore we do the same thing they advocate. There is a huge difference between judging the worth of a person and judging his actions. A moral society does not punish potential, it punishes behavior.

The value of a human being is intrinsic and immutable, and any attempt to categorize based on scholarly nonsense is a terrifying peek into the minds of people who are evil, and in a different time were concentration camp guards, or experts in the logistics of mass murder, or clerks in offices counting bodies.

This is a classic argument, but it is rarely said so succinctly. "When the state is involved in medical care, regulating the consumers of medical care is in the state interest. Given the reality of state involvement in medical care, that regulation becomes essential, up to and including the forcible termination of those likely to be outsized consumers of medical services."

It isn't very often that you can see the naked face of evil on full display. Remember it well.

Peter Singer, a fake ethics professor at Princeton, proclaimed this way back in the 90's. All he was doing is daubing a bit of fresh paint to a very old idea--children are property of their parents and it is the right of parents (or society) to get rid of misfits.

In ancient Greek society, among others, it was quite acceptable to put children out to die because they were unwanted or judged not up to snuff. There is a reason that Christianity singles out children and other vulnerable people for protection from society's worst impulses. That is that faith and belief in a moral code supersedes what society and individuals find convenient.

When my son was in 4th grade at parochial school his religion homework was to ask one of his parents how their belief in Christ affected other people. I replied that my belief in a just God and my fear of hell saved many people's lives as about half the people I met in life really needed killing and my Christian belief prevented me from accommodating them. There is a difference between euthanasia of the "unfit" and sterilization. What about people who serially abuse their children?
The state steps in there, although not often enough IMHO.

It was depressing readings of the horrid acts that people are capable of committing--often to the vulnerable incapable of mounting a defense. The article made the argument that (3) is the only one that's reliably achieved. If the purpose of prisons becomes understood to be protecting society from the criminal by separating the criminal from society, there could be some really interesting discussions around how the prison system would work. Longer sentences served at safer, less unpleasant facilities?

When the doctors diagnosed her with Downs, they point blank told my parents that if they had known earlier, they wouldn't have fought so hard to keep her alive. They then tried to convince my parents to send her to an institution and forget her. She would never walk, never talk, etc.

Anyone ever ask me who my heroes are? My parents, especially my mom. They fought fearlessly for my sister - her education, any therapy, and a shot in life. And she has thrived. She grew up able to do everything that the so called "experts" said she could never do/be.

What is a tell though is that the Democrat candidates are not trying to localize their races by blasting Biden. Instead they are pounding the abortion issue rather than breaking with Biden on inflation, the economy, spending, crime, foreign policy, etc. That tells me that donor money is calling the shots in these races rather than the candidate themselves.

2) Possibility of getting it wrong. The interest of the prosecutor is not to determine the truth, it's to win. I wouldn't put suborning perjury and/or suppressing exculpatory evidence past any one of them.

3) Unequal application. Women get prison sentences or even walk for crimes that a man would get the DP for.

Yeah this isn't some super mysterious case where the state had to cobble together circumstantial evidence and guesswork to try to convince a jury. Its usually "this dude is a monster with a mountain of evidence of many, many heinous crimes" because the state typically does not ask for the needle unless they have a very, very strong case.

Yes, there were people who were railroaded in the past, who were put to death but were innocent, but I think the 900 challenges and high level of proof required makes that pretty unlikely these days.

Please, you know they don't stop at their kids - they push it everywhere, they are determined to make sure your kids can do it behind your back/without parental consent. Lutheranism and Calvinism explicitly reject merit. Other branches of Christianity (like Catholicism) don't quite incorporate merit the way people tend to think they do, but tend to believe in a general invitation as opposed to arbitrary selection.

But is that merit or just obedience to the law? It isn't about weighing the value of the person, who is explicitly bad. There's no karma weighting like in Bhuddism.

I don't know enough about Hinduism, but I think it is also merit based, weighing how many 'good acts' you perform...
