8/15 – Cosda asks for prayers for her sister, whose regularly scheduled colonoscopy revealed a problem. The sister will be having her ascending colon removed next week. It seems to be early in the cancer stage and contained. Prayers are appreciated by the family.
9/10 Update – The lab results showed that the entirety of the cancer was removed from the colon, but 2 out of 50 lymph node tested showed signs of cancer, so chemo is next. Everybody is optimistic. 8/19 – mngiggle requested for prayers for his brother-in-law, who is in the ICU for pneumonia and possibly sepsis.
9/18 Update – The brother-in-law was released from the ICU and has been home for the a couple of weeks, and has been getting stronger again. Thank you all for your prayers! 9/6 – Jewells45 had bad news and needs prayers. Her CT scan indicated several nodes on her lungs, too many to count. It is very probable that she has lung cancer. Her husband is devastated, and she is scared to death.
10/5 Update - She is at stage 5 and has some in her bones, mostly around the spine and rub cage. Her doctor is phenomenal. He said he can’t cure her, but he can treat her and says she could live many more years. Treatment will involve chemo and immunotherapy.
10/6 Update – The PET scan of her bones was not nearly as bad as she feared. It should be manageable with radiation. She is very relieved! 9/10 – Greyman27 requests prayers for his lumbar fusion surgery on 9/15, his third surgery in 19 years to fix low back/nerve issues. He is hopeful that this turns out to be the permanent fix his surgeon believe it will be. 9/15 – SanFranpsycho asked for prayers for an immediate and speedy recovery for his cousin Phyllis, who was seriously injured in a fall this week at her assisted living center. She is almost 90 and lost her front teeth and broke her nose. 9/15 – Tonypete asks for healing prayers for Mike, the husband of a good friend. Mike fell and suffered a devastating brain injury. He is currently hospitalized and his prognosis is not good. 9/16 – Pillage Idiot requests prayers for his father. Dad has been battling severe heart disease and two different cancers for the last several years. He was recently infected with an antibiotic-resistant bacteria that put him in the ICU with multiple organs failing. The doctor said to gather the family, since this would probably be his last day. But after 3 days, his kidneys started to function, and his blood work is improving! Please help see if we can push him back to the top of the hill! 9/17 – SanFranpsycho asks for prayers for complete and immediate healing of his friend Paul, who learned he has a malignant tumor on his pancreas. Paul has been his closest friend for his entire life – since the first day of kindergarten over 50 years ago. 9/21 – A member of the Horde asked for prayers for NLUrker, who said that everything in his life is going badly. 9/21 - Fenelon Spoke asks for prayers for a church friend named Bob, who is having trouble with swollen fingers and pain. The doctors are having trouble finding the cause, and his next step is to see a neurologist. He is having difficulty with the pain and also with being inactive, so prayers for a solution and healing would be appreciated. 9/22 – DDS asked for prayers for long-time commenter Farmer, as he recently received a cancer diagnosis. 9/24 – Sua Sponte asked for prayers. His friend’s sister-in-law was murdered recently (domestic violence) and the rest of the family needs prayer. Sua Sponte sends his thanks for those people out there who pray. 9/25 – BurtTC and his wife could use some prayers, individually and for their marriage.
10/1 Update – they have separated. 10/1 – B has been managing heart disease for 17 years, and just has been diagnosed with liver cancer. He requests prayers for himself, his wife, and anyone who has suffered a double blow like this. 10/1 – Taqyia2Me needs prayers for his mother-in-law, Addie, and his wife Nora. Addie suffered a heart attack in late July, then fell and broker her arm in August. She also suffers from increasing memory loss. Nora was with her when she fell, and blames herself. Addie was in rehab for 4-5 weeks but was discharged last Monday. I pray for improvement. Back from washing the car, shaving, and showering. (Yes, folk, I did the second and third indoors at home.) I've had breakfast and a pipe, and don't really feel like making another pot of coffee
(BURN THE HERETIC!)
and so I'm here with galloping Dagny the Siberian kitten. Stirling the giant black kitten is curled up on my bed. He's accepted Dagny at last as a roommate and playmate, and nothing more.

Prayers for all my horde friends and continued thanks for your prayers. I'm at stage 4 but the oncologist who is just fantastic says it is treatable and I ain't going anywhere for awhile! Brain MRI is Oct 20th (prayers please that this hasn't spread). I get my port put in Oct 17. Ugh.. when they called yesterday that made it even more real.

I only drink one 16 oz beer at a time. Seems like a moderate pace to me. However, if some of you like to keep a beer in each hand, its certainly none of my business.

Last week we moved one of our cats in with my daughter, who is in a pet-friendly apartment while at college.
This has proved very popular with our remaining cat, who is more affectionate and engaged than she had been since the other one arrived. She in fact always hated the new cat, and they fought regularly. The house is much quieter now. I think one cat is the right number of cats for us.

and I very much doubt that Ukraine had the military capability to pull this off. They would have loved to, but they still can't project that much power outside of their areas of control. Someone with a lot of military power did this, someone with assets in the Black Sea, and it damn sure wasn't the Russians.

My grandparents had cocktails daily. They actually observed Happy Hour when he came home from work.
They rarely, if ever, got sick. Could there be health benefits from drinking a glass or two of antiseptic each day? Plausible.

The dealio is that all the other crap in tobacco smoke causes far more harm than the nicotine does good.
So, vaping, nicotine gum, "energy drinks" like they have in Japan with nicotine, all probably beneficial within certain limits.

What with all this nuclear Armageddon talk, I seemed to recall that "asking for it" is something we generally accuse a president of doing if we do not like him. So, looking for cute quotes and similar evidence, I entered the names of a few modern presidents into a popular search engine.

Coffee is the only thing I drink except for once in a long while I'll have a soda or a sports drink. Yet I have CV disease. Just saying.
I hate these studies that use both "could" and "suggest". That's about as vague as you can make it. I bet you can associate a make & model car equally in place of coffee.

I grew up in a Finnish household, and coffee was a thing even as a kid. Then there was the Marine Corps, which like the other branches runs on it. Then I went through a time when I was up to a couple pots a day, and then it became too much. Now it's two cups in the morning and maybe one in the afternoon and things are just fine.

the railroad bridge is repairable, but it's currently blocked by a full train that's been burned. It's going to take a few days to get it back in service, and the rails in the burnt section will need to be replaced.

Legalizing pot is on the ballot in Arkansas this year, and there's a lot of commercials against it. I wonder if the pot dealers (dispensaries) in OK, and there's plenty of them, are chipping in. A neighboring county has votes come up to go from dry to wet every other cycle, and a guy who owns some hardware stores is a big contributor to keep it dry. Also owns a giant warehouse liquor store right at the county line.

Another tidbit about the Crimea Bridge - back in September two "decoy barges" that were festooned with various masts designed to confuse and decoy guided missiles were removed from the waters near the bridge. Russia put them there as a precaution, and then removed them for unknown reasons.

Oregon legalized recreational weed about 3 years ago, and we've had an explosion in illegal grows. We produce more marijuana than the legal dispensaries can handle, so much of it flows out of the state. Also, the penalties for illegal growing are so low that the cartels are more than happy to grow here and take the low risk that something will happen. We've had cases where the police find dozens of illegals brought here as slave labor to work the grows.

Already some very odd things are popping up about the truck bomb explosion - yes, the security cam footage shows a truck blowing up, but video of the damage shows another collapsed section over 100 yards away. Also someone has noticed that in one security cam shot, there appears to be a fairly large boat scooting out from under the blast location just seconds before the explosion.

This went way under the radar yesterday. The Delaware state Supreme Court ruled that same day registration is unconstitutional. And also said the same about no excuse mail voting.

About the only drawback I've noticed, aside from the minimal cost (the pipes themselves are the biggest $), is that I find I can't do anything else requiring real manual dexterity while I puff. I can watch TV and read. But typing here is an effort, and the same for real writing on the computer. There's no way I could smoke a pipe while writing or while driving.

See, this is the thing: although DE is a blue state, it is not deep blue like Commiefornia or Massachusetts. Its leadership is surprisingly moderate. For example, their coof lockdowns were not as strict as neighboring PA. Their governor seems to be more of a small "l" libertarian than a demorat tyrant.

All I was saying is that "Over 8X less of those people went to hospital" is an awkward bit of phrasing.
The problem I have with this type of study is that the data in large data sets comes from multiple various facilities/entities and thus has great potential for corruption (lack of rigorous data entry, site-to-site variability in methodology, case definitions, etc.). I guess the thinking is that if you have a large enough dataset, the extraneous bits will be "drowned out" by the large scale of the data and any resulting differences will reflect a real effect.
Not to mention that it is tricky trying to apply population stats to individuals.

There is a lot more money in, say, new antivirals, than in studies about out of patent meds that might have an off label use.

I'm sure there's a better way to say this, but the answer, it seems, is that the feds shouldn't have squat to say about it.
Other than the interstate commerce aspect of it, which they DO in fact, prevent. Which is why legal weed growers and sellers essentially deal in cash, and must CAREFULLY manage bank transactions.

Time so perfectly that there was a train full of fuel tanker cars on the railroad bridge right next to the automobile bridge. The explosion looks to have set those fuel tankers on fire and taken the railroad bridge out of commission at the same time.
This is a huge escalation - direct attacks on civilian infrastructure - no matter who did it. Putin will now be under pressure to launch massive attacks on civilian infrastructure in Ukraine. It's not hard at all to see where this is all headed.

It's been a very tough week. But it's one foot in front of the other.
Instagram recommended to me a certain person; I checked out this person's feed, and one of the first things was comments Jordan Peterson made about Orthodox Christians. I had seen the video before, months ago, but it certainly was helpful to watch it again. In the meantime, we are provided for, and all the money in the world doesn't shield people from tragedy. Which also reminds me... I texted a friend of mine whom I've known for decades who also happens to be an Orthodox priest. It was good to connect with him, but he mentioned that he's presiding over a funeral of a 13-year-old boy this weekend - a kid he knew, a kid he recently visited to celebrate the kid's birthday... Yes, this kid had been very sick a lot of his life, but it's still a tragedy. My eldest is almost 13, and as much as she is driving me crazy right now, the reminder that life is sometimes so short is also jarring.

She's had lesions in her spine, hip, ribs, liver...5th or 6th chemo change, lost hair for the 3rd or 4th time...but still keeps on ticking.

Vaccines have, yes. But the COVID shot is not a vaccine. It does not provide immunity from contraction or immunity to spread the virus. There is no COVID vaccine. Period.
The only reason people state there is a COVID "vaccine" is because they changed the definition of vaccine to fit what the COVID shot does, which is... basically nothing. It actually has been proven to *increase* the likelihood of someone contracting the very virus it is supposed to provide immunity against. That is not a vaccine by any definition of the word.

Prayer Requests:
8/15 – Cosda asks for prayers for her sister, whose regularly scheduled colonoscopy revealed a problem. The sister will be having her ascending colon removed next week. It seems to be early in the cancer stage and contained. Prayers are appreciated by the family.
9/10 Update – The lab results showed that the entirety of the cancer was removed from the colon, but 2 out of 50 lymph node tested showed signs of cancer, so chemo is next. Everybody is optimistic.

Thanks actually did hold the hair of the girl who would eventually become my fiancée. It was our first date on Christmas Eve Eve. I should have taken that as a big red flag.
