What with all this nuclear Armageddon talk, I seemed to recall that "asking for it" is something we generally accuse a president of doing if we do not like him. So, looking for cute quotes and similar evidence, I entered the names of a few modern presidents into a popular search engine.
Turns out Reagan was supposed to be expecting actual Armageddon, Clinton is mentioned with Armageddon only with "sexual" attached -- nice visual, but I hardly think he was up to it -- and both Bushes are frequently discussed by publications named "Armageddon." As for the current appointee, armageddon tired of him. Posted by: Way, Way Downriver at October 08, 2022 09:15 AM (x61Im) 41

The extraordinary move follows the revelation that the district hired a former state trooper who was among hundreds of officers who rushed to the scene of the May 24 shooting. School leaders also put two members of the district police department on administrative leave, one of whom chose to retire instead, according to a statement released by the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District. Oregon legalized recreational weed about 3 years ago, and we've had an explosion in illegal grows. We produce more marijuana than the legal dispensaries can handle, so much of it flows out of the state. Also, the penalties for illegal growing are so low that the cartels are more than happy to grow here and take the low risk that something will happen. We've had cases where the police find dozens of illegals brought here as slave labor to work the grows.

In fact, the Russians continued to supply electricity to Ukrainian areas. They didn't target bridges, power plants, etc. So the Ukrainians doing this (or us doing it "for" them) means retaliation in kind. Obviously the electricity will be cut off, and if a similar campaign is used, the Ukrainians will starve and freeze to death on an epic scale. For example, Russia has been accused of trying to bomb the large nuclear power station in Ukraine, but they haven't actually done it. A big attack on civilian infrastructure takes those limits off the table, and it will likely bring about a large attack on civilian structure by the Russians. This will be intended to bring Nato conventional forces into the war against Russia. Russia will likely respond with tak nukes, and Nato will escalate until Russia responds with strategic nukes - which will be when Nato launches all of its strategic nukes. Train communications system in Germany targeted by sabotage, forcing trains to halt for nearly three hours.
||Operator Deutsche Bahn said early Saturday that no long-distance or regional trains were running in the states of Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony and Bremen. That also affected trains between Berlin and Cologne, neither of which was directly affected by the system failure, and between Berlin and Amsterdam, while trains from Denmark weren’t crossing the border into Germany. The sabotage hit a primary mode of regional and intercity transport in Germany as well as disrupting supply lines for industries using cargo trains. [...] Transport Minister Volker Wissing said cables that are “essential for handling railway traffic safely” were deliberately severed at two separate locations, which he didn't name. He said Germany's federal police were investigating the attack.|| Posted by: andycanuck (yikp0) at October 08, 2022 10:29 AM (yikp0) 220

I know that I'm not someone who comments a lot, but I've been trying to remember to comment on this thread every Saturday, just to check in.
It's been a very tough week. But it's one foot in front of the other. Instagram recommended to me a certain person; I checked out this person's feed, and one of the first things was comments Jordan Peterson made about Orthodox Christians. I had seen the video before, months ago, but it certainly was helpful to watch it again. In the meantime, we are provided for, and all the money in the world doesn't shield people from tragedy. Which also reminds me... I texted a friend of mine whom I've known for decades who also happens to be an Orthodox priest. It was good to connect with him, but he mentioned that he's presiding over a funeral of a 13-year-old boy this weekend - a kid he knew, a kid he recently visited to celebrate the kid's birthday... Yes, this kid had been very sick a lot of his life, but it's still a tragedy. My eldest is almost 13, and as much as she is driving me crazy right now, the reminder that life is sometimes so short is also jarring. https://tinyurl.com/msvzydyt I appreciate you all very much. Prayers to Jewels45.
One can live a long time with Stage 4 cancer; ask my wife. She was diagnosed with it almost a decade ago, after an initial diagnosis of cancer almost 15 years ago with aggressive treatment. She's had lesions in her spine, hip, ribs, liver...5th or 6th chemo change, lost hair for the 3rd or 4th time...but still keeps on ticking. Posted by: Anonosaurus Wrecks, Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? at October 08, 2022 10:55 AM Vaccines have, yes. But the COVID shot is not a vaccine. It does not provide immunity from contraction or immunity to spread the virus. There is no COVID vaccine. Period. The only reason people state there is a COVID "vaccine" is because they changed the definition of vaccine to fit what the COVID shot does, which is... basically nothing. It actually has been proven to *increase* the likelihood of someone contracting the very virus it is supposed to provide immunity against. That is not a vaccine by any definition of the word. So to Dan Rather and all those like him who push this bullshit, please go fuck yourselves. And I mean that literally. Posted by: Clyde Shelton at October 08, 2022 11:00 AM (Do5/p) 315

In what might be the worst of blind dates, a 21-year-old Colorado man is recovering from a Tinder date gone awry. The unnamed victim was found naked and bleeding in the parking lot of an apartment complex where his 22-year-old date, identified by police as Lauren Marie Dooley, allegedly [performed a sex act on him] before binding his wrists and ankles with duct tape, and cutting him with a sharp knife.

8/15 – Cosda asks for prayers for her sister, whose regularly scheduled colonoscopy revealed a problem. The sister will be having her ascending colon removed next week. It seems to be early in the cancer stage and contained. Prayers are appreciated by the family. 9/10 Update – The lab results showed that the entirety of the cancer was removed from the colon, but 2 out of 50 lymph node tested showed signs of cancer, so chemo is next.
