I have a good one in the suburbs and shop there all the time. They have pharmacy-type supplies like cold medicine and shaving gear, a few aftershaves, etc. I think part of their problem is perception that the stuff is discount material, fostered by their ubiquitous coupons for 20% off.

That and their insistence for too long on customers having to wear face diapers in 2020 and '21.

She's got enough troubles. She's being questioned about her $$$ "business" trips on taxpayer money. And a recall petition has been started, too -- which I think should have started the moment she began insisting on muzzles and vax passports to enter businesses or do practically anything in the city. We were talking guns yesterday, and he told me that I can find good bargains at the better pawnshops in town. Also which ranges are good. And the complex I've got my eye on to move to? 90 I watch several blogs on failing shopping malls or some nearly dead malls. Bed Bath and Beyond seems to be one of the stores that is the one that is still open in a nearly empty mall. Maybe they are just running out their lease, then will be gone. Our one local mall had that store close nearly a year ago. There are a few other stores that hang on in the malls, but I'd bet they will be gone before long. With the closing of Sears, Macy's and JC Penny in many malls, it made the mall look deserted. Many don't realize that the malls across the US are failing badly.
So many shoppers don't go to malls anymore.

91 Ex-Amazon employees expose tech giant's meanness: Had to split bagels and were turned down requests for extra office supplies despite owner Jeff Bezos being world's second richest man

You don't get wealthy pissing away money either. I seriously doubt Bezos himself established the bagel policy or vetoed the office supply purchase.

92 Wolfus,

We foster failed two orange tabbies this summer. They got snipped about 2 weeks ago and no change in behavior. Pretty sure we got the runt and his hulking skittish bodyguard brother. The runt is sweet and great coloring. And vocal. Very definite opinions on food. His brother is almost twice his size and eats whatever he can and is a firm believer that hiding or fighting solves all problems. He has bopped our 75 pound boxer-pittie mix on the nose and will chase her tail. The same dog that usually sees anything small and fluffy as single use chew toys. The bodyguard kitten has more muted colors always has this kinda resigned look on his face.

We have 1 that is thriving and 2 others that are limping along. I don't go to them much because there is nothing there in the main for male customers (not even girl-watching), no bookstores or clothing primarily for men, few gadget stores, etc. And the mall nearest me, the first one I ever visited when I was 13, is now swarmed with the dregs of society. It unlocked individual creativity, led to a highly productive, high-trust society, and overturned (to a small extent) the hierarchical nature embedded deep in our ur-DNA.

I have to disagree with you. Food trucks often are a foody's mobile delight. I haven't found a food truck yet that serves food that is the same or lesser quality found in fast or "mall" food. Instead their recipes often rival that of established $$ restaurants.

179 I've been working with a client migrating their data warehouse to the cloud. They expect it to run fast and cost little. We've tried to tell them that they can't have both. They either need to pay for the resources to make it run fast, or accept that it will run slow for the amount they're willing to pay.

Yes. I have seen monthly AWS bills. They are horrifying. Like buying a luxury car twelve times a year.

Then you discover the miracle of cold vs warm vs hot storage. Then you find Hudi or something like that to stream these data lakes. Then you discover that lambdas look cool at prototype but scale poorly.

The costs can be brought down. The client needs to understand that there is a world of difference between five-nine reliability spread across multiple availability zones and that unsecured and poorly maintained rack server stored in the basement of company headquarters.

Send ten (10) illegals next time and watch them explain that they don't have the room or infrastructure to allow them to stay before having them physically removed by men with automatic weapons.

My high school had a 'vocational' wing on it in the early 90s. I'm not sure what they offered as I was not one of "those people."

All of that was consolidated at the ISD level and they now have a pretty nice facility that received considerable funding from private employers needing trained employees. They have a full-service auto shop and each semester they buy a junker and do a full rebuild of it and then sell it with the proceeds going towards the next class' project. My middle kid did the law enforcement program and was very good at it, but what with the anti-cop sentiment, opted to do something else.

200 Trumpists tell themselves that America is being threatened by a radical left putsch that is out to take over the government and undermine the culture.

*

What a fundamental misunderstanding. It's not "being" threatened. It's already been consumed and taken over via a long march through academia, government at all levels, and purposeful decaying of morals and social fabric (hyphenated Americans), and the folks that did it have decided it's safe to break cover and continue the next stage of their plan.

People who want an economically strong America with good jobs for every kid and a place where expectations and laws are enforced equally across the board regardless of skin color or political leanings are dangerous radicals.

The left really believes illegals in Texas is fine because they are at the border and so they must have the infrastructure. Because reasons. Because that's how the left thinks, same as "just ban cars, it will be fine."

The two core problems in our society are a collapse of faith in God (that is, a notion that mortal life isn't all there is) and the unprecedented prosperity that has degraded standards of competence across the board.

Combined, they create the idea that actions can be separated from consequences. It doesn't matter what results, if your motives were pure, you should be absolved from guilt.

Similarly, it doesn't matter if what you do produces positive results, if your motives are judged to be flawed.

244 This Ian Milheiser is a twat.

Such skepticism of a law enforcement agency’s assertions might be welcome in another context. But, again, the Constitution lays out the requirements that the FBI must comply with in order to seize documents and use them in a criminal investigation — probable cause plus a warrant — and the FBI complied with these constitutional obligations.
If Trump believes that some of these documents were unlawfully seized from him, he can raise that argument at his criminal trial, if he is ever indicted, and seek to have the documents excluded from that trial. He could do, in other words, what every other criminal defendant is permitted to do.

The vast majority of these people are economic migrants and many had money in their home countries. Yes, that disproves the talking point that they are on the point of starvation, but that's a weak argument to make.

The core problem is that the US people have enacted laws regulation who gets in and by executive fiat all those laws were repealed without any vote or legal procedure. This has been treated by our elites as a consequence-free action and the genius of the bus/plane strategy is to make those consequences hit the elites.

But we will create a new normal here in our infrastructure and have a humane welcome for people and an efficient service provision. But we don’t have the ability – we’re not Texas.

283 It's important to remember that none of this stuff is supposed to persuade people in the center or on the right - it is about reinforcing the bubble that the left lives in.

Biden's approval numbers went up because the left loves this crap, and desperately want to hear how Trump is finally going down. Since the left has no long-term plan, and instead only lives from news cycle to news cycle, the implications of this action are not something they worried about.

The problem is that those long-term consequences will be catastrophic, buteven in the near-term they will be disastrous if Trump once again outfoxes them. That Vox idiot is trying to say that what Trump is doing legally is somehow wrong and corrupt, in order to cushion the blow when it fails.

It is a cycle where the only play open to the left is escalation because they have decided that even a minor political defeat is unacceptable.

It turns out, though, that the safety inspection station I've used for the last 2 years no longer has a contract with the city. But online, they can fully indulge their virtue fetish and rack up all those likes from people they will never see, half of whom are Dem bots. This causes them to think that they really are that much better than everyone else.

It is exotic and "authentic."

At our old house there was a food truck at the end of the street in a more or less permanent position (parking lot of a defunct business). Good food, place seemed clean and it was affordable.

When I deployed to Germany the fam basically lived off the stuff. It was summer so rather than cook, they'd grab a couple of taco plates. The owner has several trucks now, some of which are mobile.

One of the reasons why fashions constantly change is to allow the 'in' crowd to separate itself from everyone else.

When I was little, having nice place settings and the ability to host a dinner party was a big deal. You invited friends over, used fancy wine glasses, and had something tasty by candlelight, and then chatted the evening away. This required both a formal dining room and comfortable seating area.

No one does that now. You eat in your jumbo kitchen and use paper plates. They are giving away high-quality dining sets at estate sales because no one wants them. Instead you eat at a food truck because it's so authentic and real.

Down here, Booze-Pop trucks are a real thing.

They text Mrs VIA when they will be in the neighborhood.

330 There used to be a Catholic blogger who was big on 'welcoming the immigrant'. She was tin-eared and oblivious to the "lived experience" of those of us in border states.
(I think she lived in Connecticut or similar).

My mean fantasy was to kidnap her and make her live daily life in a south Texas city for a month.

331 Henry Silva starred in overlooked gem 'Johnny Cool'. A damn fine little movie. Also starred the young, stunning, sultry minx, Elizabeth Montgomery. I recommend!

333 Daughter goes to Youngstown State and lives off campus in what turns out to be a Mobster owned apartment building. Was told not to make too many waves as everyone is afraid of the building owner. Youngstown is still a ghost town. Very depressing place.

Where is this? Stopped in Shoprite last night, plenty of eggs, some on "sale" for $2.99 dozen. Same with my trip to Stop and Shop a few days ago. Two of the largest chains in the Northeast.

336 People forget that starting around 1981, police in San Franscisco used to give one-way tickets to the homeless, sending them to the Big Muddy Ranch just outside of Antelope, Oregon, also known as Rajneeshpuram, the home of the movement started by Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh.

Rajneesh, his nearly 100 Rolls-Royces and his 2,000 or so disciples, out numbered the 70 or so citizens of Antelope, easily winning control of the town.

This easy way of handling the homeless ended when the Bhagwan was deported when Rajneesh and his followers turned criminal.
