Paul Sperry: The FBI Team That Ran Crossfire Hurricane -- Currently Under Investigation by IG John Durham -- Is of Course the Team That Ran the Mar-a-Lago Raid

Why shouldn't they be.

Why shouldn't they be.

The FBI division overseeing the investigation of former President Trump's handling of classified material at his Mar-a-Lago residence is also a focus of Special Counsel John Durham's investigation of the bureau's alleged abuses of power and political bias during its years-long Russiagate probe of Trump.

The FBI's nine-hour, 30-agent raid of the former president's Florida estate is part of a counterintelligence case run out of Washington -- not Miami, as has been widely reported -- according to FBI case documents and sources with knowledge of the matter. The bureau's counterintelligence division led the 2016-2017 Russia "collusion" investigation of Trump, codenamed "Crossfire Hurricane."

Although the former head of Crossfire Hurricane, Peter Strzok, was fired after the disclosure of his vitriolic anti-Trump tweets, several members of his team remain working in the counterintelligence unit, the sources say, even though they are under active investigation by both Durham and the bureau's disciplinary arm, the Office of Professional Responsibility. The FBI declined to respond to questions about any role they may be taking in the Mar-a-Lago case.

In addition, a key member of the Crossfire team -- Supervisory Intelligence Analyst Brian Auten -- has continued to be involved in politically sensitive investigations, including the ongoing federal probe of potentially incriminating content found on the abandoned laptop of President Biden's son Hunter Biden, according to recent correspondence between the Senate Judiciary Committee and FBI Director Christopher Wray. FBI whistleblowers have alleged that Auten tried to falsely discredit derogatory evidence against Hunter Biden during the 2020 campaign by labeling it Russian "disinformation," an assessment that caused investigative activity to cease.

Auten has been allowed to work on sensitive cases even though he has been under internal investigation since 2019, when Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz referred him for disciplinary review for his role in vetting a Hillary Clinton campaign-funded dossier used by the FBI to obtain a series of wiretap warrants to spy on former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page. Horowitz singled out Auten for cutting a number of corners in the verification process and even allowing information he knew to be incorrect slip into warrant affidavits and mislead the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act court.

In congressional testimony this month, Wray confirmed that "a number of" former Crossfire Hurricane team members are still employed at the bureau while undergoing disciplinary review. In the meantime, Wray has walled off the former Russiagate investigators only from participating in FISA wiretap applications, according to the sources.

Hey guys -- don't criticize the Smug Twitter Liberals with Guns. It's too dangerous for them.

We'll just have to stop criticizing our clearly corrupt government. It's The American Way Now (TM).

At American Greatness, Adam Mill disagrees that this is The American Way Now (TM). After recounting the FBI's illegal and corrupt stormtrooper behavior over the past six years -- and its absurd claims that it cannot make its affidavits and warrants public, as that would expose "sources and methods," as it leaks like crazy to all of its favorite leftwing corporate media stenographers, he thinks it's time instead to criticize them more stingingly.

Speaking of sources, the FBI appears to have activated its many allies, including some Republicans, to come to its defense. Former Vice President Mike Pence, according to the Times, "called on Republicans to stop attacking the nation's top law enforcement agencies over the F.B.I.'s search of Mar-a-Lago." Other "moderates," says the Times, "chastised their colleagues for the broadsides against law enforcement." That's absurd.

The FBI must feel the hot sting of public condemnation or the abuses will continue to escalate. There are many peaceful and legal avenues the public can and should take to push back against the FBI. Further, we should pay close attention to the names of Republicans who feel a mysterious compulsion to defend this clearly indefensible raid. It might be worth asking whether any FBI personnel contacted any public official to lobby for public relations support and whether anything was said to help motivate these public figures.

Updated:

I don't know if that's necessary. The standard braindead Don't Know What Time It Is conservazombie is still possessed by a slavish leathergimp fetishization of anything having to do with authority, even when that authority is being used to crush them.

Because Tradition. Because that's the way things were 20 years ago, when things were completely different.

Because while leftwing NPCs get their coding updated from Central Processing Command every week or ten days, "conservative" NPCs are incapable of getting their coding updated, ever. It's all hardware, no software.

It was 2003. It is 2003. It will always be 2003.

He has a great last line to the column. He demands that the full affidavit be made public -- the FBI leaks from it as it finds it convenient, so might as well cut out the middleman and just make it public now -- and says, repeating the FBI's own bullshit back to it, If you have nothing to hide, why not just come clean now?

Meanwhile: What's this?

Have the Capitol Police and FBI been hiding video of the "insurrection" because they know Capitol Police officers permitted "insurrectors" into the Capitol, therefore giving them permission to be there, just as the Colbert Nine supposedly had?

I'll bet that the FBI (and the rest of the IC, in some degree of concert) have dossiers on every important person in the country. Cross them, go down. Chuck Schumer more or less admitted it. Gaming out a Trump win in 2024, the only way to actually change the trajectory of the country is to do something monumental. Doing something monumental would invite an in-kind response. Defunding the FBI won't end with unemployed agents simply handing over their guns and walking away. Things will either get necessarily ugly or we'll just continue to drift apace.

52 A Harvard and a Yale law professor wrote an editorial for the New York Times called "The Constitution is Broken and Should Not Be Reclaimed" advocating that:

More aggressively, Congress could simply pass a Congress Act, reorganizing our legislature in ways that are more fairly representative of where people actually live and vote, and perhaps even reducing the Senate to a mere “council of revision” (a term Jamelle Bouie used to describe the Canadian Senate), without the power to obstruct laws.
In so doing, Congress would be pretty openly defying the Constitution to get to a more democratic order — and for that reason would need to insulate the law from judicial review. Fundamental values like racial equality or environmental justice would be protected not by law that stands apart from politics but — as they typically are — by ordinary expressions of popular will. And the basic structure of government, like whether to elect the president by majority vote or to limit judges to fixed terms, would be decided by present electorate as opposed to one from some foggy past.

No.

A true 'insurrection' - one with literal millions of people flooding the streets, buildings razed to the ground and politicians swinging from lampposts - would be about the only way to finally get the attention of the thieves and traitors who rule over us.

But absent some black swan event, that simply isn't going to happen. Nazi Germany, for example, might have lasted for decades had Schickelgruber not gone to war. Soviet Russia did last for decades. A totalitarian US could run for at least another 50 years before the people who deserve it get the Ceacescu treatment.

78 More aggressively, Congress could simply pass a Congress Act, reorganizing our legislature in ways that are more fairly representative of where people actually live and vote, and perhaps even reducing the Senate to a mere “council of revision” (a term Jamelle Bouie used to describe the Canadian Senate), without the power to obstruct laws.

"Here is a roadmap to tyranny. For free!" Common Law is a good system but its fatal flaw is that it is unchecked. "Rights" can change with the winds of the time. The act of unalloyed brilliance that our founders had was the augmentation of common law with a final check (the Constitution). If the winds of the time blow differently, it's damned hard to change that final check. Not impossible, just hard. On purpose. The brilliance of an effective retarder on the whim of the moment is what makes the constitutional common law system so damned good. Of course it must be destroyed by those who know their whims are *correct* dammit!

81 It might be worth asking whether any FBI personnel contacted any public official to lobby for public relations support and whether anything was said to help motivate these public figures.

That's how the Hoover-era FBI kept control for years - by blackmailing public officials.

JFK came into office intending to replace Hoover - he sent RFK to have lunch with Hoover to inform him that he was going to resign.

I'm sure that a transcript of the lunch would be priceless, as Hoover explained exactly what dirt he had on the Kennedy family.

Look up Farley Files way back from when Jim Farley was FDR's political fixer. The common misperception was that Farley files were only compiled on supporters. Hoover's FBI was also involved at an early age assembling informant networks to build dossiers throughout American society way back in the 30's. Wiretapping was also used along with black bag burglaries to plant microphones, etc. of those unpopular with the regime. At the state and local level, politicos used their police forces as armed goons to go after rivals.

This has been going on for a long time.

120 Pennsylvania Democratic congresswoman Chrissy Houlahan has attributed her past electoral success to her focus on "civility" and "unity." Now, she says the Republican Party is "diseased" and must be "cleansed."

Houlahan's comments came during a May 27 appearance on the Daily Beast‘s The New Abnormal podcast, which saw the congresswoman disparage Republicans as deplorable and anti-democratic.

"This is, in my opinion, a diseased Republican Party. And it needs to be cured and cleansed," Houlahan said. "So the stakes of having a Republican, as an example, in my seat are more than just policy differences. They are democracy, in my opinion."

Houlahan's rhetoric is a far cry from 2020, when the Democrat credited her political success to her message of "civility," "decency," "unity," and "empathy." "People ask me constantly how I flipped a seat in a competitive district. One of the reasons is that I made civility and decency a core of my campaign," Houlahan said at the time. "Pennsylvanians want unity. They want leaders who rise above the fray and lead with kindness and empathy towards all Americans."

Not crazy, but it isn't colander time until most people literally go hungry for a while.

The smaht set in DC, NY etc don't know they've turned the most optimistic people into the most jaded in just a few years. As that thread said, people who give their kids pocket-sized laminated constitutions have been watching and expecting something to correct the course.

I expect the majority of governor candidates will be running on protecting their residents from fed over-reach. This will bewilder smaht people for quite a long time ... they are good at casting blame.

6th Amendment requires a trial in the district and state where the crime is alleged to have been committed. For the documents, Trump had ultimate authority of them and arrived before Biden could take office. Therefore, any trial based on those documents would have to be based in SD of Florida and ditto for the Grand Jury. Jan. 6th events on the other hand would be based in DC presumably.

149 92 Blaster - The warrant itself is a blight line violation of the 4th amendment. There are numerous SCOTUS decisions that classify the warrant (ignoring the affidavit) as illegal. Everything they seized is inadmissible.

If the line is so bright, how come everyone is saying it's just fine? Not just people, people in effing charge. Even the "opposition" is saying its okay.

Yeah, I know, WE aren't saying its okay. But who, exactly, is listening to us? The media? The courts?

A conviction isn't necessary. All they need is the indictment. They can get an indictment in DC district. I wouldn't doubt they can get a conviction, too.

The Feds, under Obama, indicted my Republican governor. And convicted him. He later got that overturned at SCOTUS. SCOTUS ruled what he was convicted of wasn't even a crime. Did this cause the DoJ to question the wisdom of what they are doing?

Er, perhaps "delusional" is a more apt term. For one thing, what "armies" do conservatives have? If you answer "millions of completely unorganized gun owners spread out over fifty states," that begs about twenty questions. The big one is, how do you organize these folks without 30 EffBeeEye dudes in Kevlar vests busting down your door in the middle of the night?

The left used to fantasize about this too, it's why they tried (and failed) to organize mass revolutions in post-World War I America. Same with radical groups like the Weathermen in the '60s-'70s. After a bunch got tossed in jail for their trouble, they came to realize there are no short cuts, and resolved to take the hard slog called "the long march" through the institutions, slowly and methodically taking over our establishments one by one. Their successes today are the result of their patience and hard work. If only the right could show the same patience and fortitude.

Historically, most revolts occur BEFORE starving occurs simply because people can anticipate events. In China, they occurred regularly when the taxation rate exceeded 50 percent of a peasant's income (usually paid in rice). The peasants revolted before starving because of the intolerable loss from the tax rates.

A revolt here might occur before if the ptb are stupid enough to eliminate fertilizers because farmers and then the people can anticipate starving from it. Bloomberg and his ilk though believe that anyone can farm (see his idiotic comment on the matter).

But it's an absolute certainty he would be charged in DC no matter what.

Oh and what's the remedy for being charged in the wrong district? You make a motion to change the forum of the prosecution. Where do you make that motion? Unless I am mistaken, you make it to the same court you are accusing of being the wrong forum. Anyone here think any DC judge is gonna grant any motion by Trump to transfer the case to FL???????

Remember when Colbert told his audience Trump fired Comey and they started cheering? Because the left didn't like Comey at that point because he admitted Hillary broke the law.

Just with the FBI, there was Waco, Ruby Ridge, Pam Geller, Richard Jewell, and that poor guy they hounded for years thinking he was some kind of chemical terrorist.

Power does not explain. They don't have commentators going "tick tock" they just arrest people. They indicted and prosecuted Bannon in a period of 3 months. They do Calvinball type laws. The only problem is that the results are unpredictable in courts and that means more scrutiny of actions in broad daylight. Cockroaches pulling this shit delight in anonymity but hate to have their names and faces dragged into public scrutiny. Court battles between courts of appeals and interlocutory appeals do that. Any attempt to serve a DC warrant could be challenged in a local non DC court under habeas corpus alleging a 6th Amendment vicinage violation. The conspirators cannot rely on their friendly DC courts to cover their actions in that case and risk a punitive decision leading to exposure via court processes.

Pretext searches with flimsy rationales are often used in the law enforcement community for such things as asset seizures, a way to search for evidence of other crimes found in 'plain sight', or simply to punish people. This happens at the local level all the way up and is a fundamental corruption of law enforcement.

This is a serious problem we face. Only the most extreme crazy right now thinks that what the left is doing justifies killing. But the worse the left gets, the more that meter moves, if for no other reason than self defense. And nobody wants that. Nobody sane, at least, nobody with any knowledge of history.

But the more extreme you get, the more extreme the push back from people who don't agree with you. Your radical actions and rhetoric are radicalizing your opposition if for no other reason than self preservation.

I think for a lot of people its not so much they're so ignorant or foolish they'd just rather watch Real Housewives of Beverly Hills than deal with the world. 340 Right. I think Sowell would have a very different take on Trump if you asked him now. I mean, Candidate Trump was talking about universal healthcare and palled around with the Clintons, it was not unreasonable to distrust and dislike the bombastic egotistical reality show host with a string of former sleazy adulteries in his past. What we know now is very different from what we knew then.

Economists have a fundamental flaw in that homo economicus aka rational decisionmakers do not exist. Sowell, like others, have marinated in economics so long that they forget that culture comes first and politics and economics come downstream from that.

Economists have perpetually believed that economics will triumph over human behavior, international relations, and domestic politics. And every time they have been astonished as events prove that it not so. Macroeconomics is largely a matter of belief systems rather than rigorous analysis and only microeconomics has a firm base of prices as empirical support.

Merryday did so when issuing a 48-page ruling Thursday in which he granted class action status for all active and reserve U.S. Marine Corps service men and women in a lawsuit filed against the Secretary of Defense over the department's COVID-19 vaccine mandate.

He also issued a classwide preliminary injunction against the Department of Defense and the U.S. Marine Corps, prohibiting them "from enforcing against a member of the class any order, requirement, or rule to accept COVID-19 vaccination; from separating or discharging from the Marine Corps a member of the class who declines COVID-19 vaccination; and from retaliating against a member of the class for the member's asserting statutory rights under RFRA [Religious Freedom Restoration Act]."

Most if not all of the stuff sent was from current stocks, so you don't need money to build them, but to replace them after the fact. Some cash can be redirected from other stashes. Again a lot of the "Ukranian money" was to defense contractors in the US to replace stocks sent to Ukraine, and a good chunk of the rest was to go to NGO groups there who would likely steal the money and redirect it back to the elites here. I imagine some Ukranians got a cut, but a small one.

Because no person in their right mind welcomes massive bloodletting that could result. And fewer still would care to put that opinion into an open forum. In the past, there has been no hot civil war in a country with nuclear weapons. In part, the dissolution of the Sov Union was probably more peaceable simply because nuclear weapons were distributed throughout the former nation. But, that has a predictive power of a single case.

In addition, the blues and reds in this case that are really becoming separate nations are more similar to the partition of India than the USSR. Then you have the mixed nature of families--a number of the commenters here have family members that are deep blue and due to geographic mobility are scattered across the US.
