Astronomical_Clock_(834189982<img src=.jpg" src="http://ace.mu.nu/archives/Astronomical_Clock_(834189982.jpg" width="490" border="0" />
Astronomical clock tower, Prague,
built 1410

From Wikipedia:

The Orloj is mounted on the southern wall of Old Town Hall in the Old Town Square. The clock mechanism has three main components -- the astronomical dial, representing the position of the Sun and Moon in the sky and displaying various astronomical details; statues of various Catholic saints stand on either side of the clock; "The Walk of the Apostles", an hourly show of moving Apostle figures and other sculptures, notably a figure of a skeleton that represents Death, striking the time; and a calendar dial with medallions representing the months. According to local legend, the city will suffer if the clock is neglected and its good operation is placed in jeopardy; a ghost, mounted on the clock, was supposed to nod its head in confirmation. According to the legend, the only hope was represented by a boy born on New Year's night.

I have no idea how to read that thing but maybe this will give you a hint?

This video details the astronomical features of the clock.

Video of the clock here.

For the animated figures, including the Apostles who present themselves in the windows of the clock, skip down to "Animated Figures.

39 Serious question for the Horde members that are smarter than me. There is a huge argument on Facebook about California introducing a bill to make the work week 32 hours, yet make companies pay at the 40 hour rate. Meeting they can't lower your pay for 32 hours worked vs 40. Anything over 32 would be time and a half.

That can't be legal can it? No state has the authorization to force a business to pay their employees a certain amount.

Why stop there? Why couldn't the state mandate three 6 hour days, yet force businesses to pay at the 40 hour rate?

This is the text. Red lines are my own.
Sicknick is the officer that The New York Times wrote a fake story about, saying he was struck by a fire extinguisher and died of his injuries. He was not hit with a fire extinguisher and died soon after the riot from natural causes (stroke).

The text was produced by a friend of Sicknick, Travis Page, a former United States Capitol Police Officer who, when asked, produced his credentials as confirmation of his identity.||

99 But as the Justice League movie showed, Superman is even harder to write because... he's as fast as the Flash. And stronger. And tougher. And can see through walls, breathe ice, has laser beam vision on and on and on.

A good writer can get around this but Supes is too powerful for any threat or danger to be a problem and he only ever uses his super speed for stunts, not in combat.

107 Californian won a tax case in the CA Supreme Court today. Zolly v. City of Oakland

www.courts.ca.gov/opinions/documents/S262634.PDF

Not the easiest read, but in a nutshell: California voters enacted a series of tax-limiting propositions (long after Proposition 13 (holy words)) one of which prohibits local governments from profiting off the provision of services -- the fees must be based on the cost to provide it w/o a surcharge, etc. Oakland contracted out waste management for a huge franchise fee intended to include what would be an illegal tax, which was to be passed onto the users - in essence, the waste haulers were the conduits for the indirect tax. SCOCA said, nah, no good. Gotta determine how much of that franchise fee charged to the waste haulers and passed onto the customers (mandatorily) is legit and how much is disguised tax.

Its either that or reshoot every single scene with your protagonist. From what I have heard, people like the movie pretty well but WB has to wonder if they are cursed at this point.

Although, they knew what a scummy violent lunatic pedo Miller was by the point they started filming this massive universe reboot. They didn't have to keep him on, and now they are paying for looking the other way.

It's all about getting a reaction.

Posted by: AlaBAMA at August 11, 2022 08:27 PM (mZ3xv)

153 The problem with current entertainment isn't that it is woke per se, it is that the writers are fundamentally ignorant. They only know what they see on TV and read on twitter. They have no lived experiences.

You write what you know, so when they are taked to imagine an elf queen like Galadriel, the only thing they can think of is some superhero chick with a sword, because that's all they know. They've been fed Grrrl Power since birth, so they think that what every woman wants is to be a man.

So that's what they write. Tolkien's actual character of Galadriel - a very feminine but powerful woman - is completely foreign to them. Notice how they say they want to make characters "accessible." They mean "accessible to them."

Galadriel refused the Ring. She also has a complicated and amazing back story, which it looks like Amazon is going to completely ignore because none of their writers can handle it.

Posted by: Boswell at August 11, 2022 08:29 PM (+Cgut)

165 The actual Galadriel is hugely complex, and Tolkien grappled with how to describe a woman who is something like 9,000 years old and seen so much go on with the world. Yet he did it, because he had actually lived. Read his life story, the loss of his father and mother, his seemingly hopeless love for Edith, his experiences in the trenches, the death of almost all his friends.

That's what informed his writing. Today's writers think that if Uber Eats is 20 minutes late it's the end of the world.

So they default to the easy stuff - make her kick ass and that shows she's "empowered." No need to muse on her experiences, the Kinslaying, the Ruin of Doriath, the ambiguous nature of the Noldor, just make her She-Ra and it's all good.

I think its even simpler than that. I'd do a whole "pitch meeting" thing but Pixie freaks out with the formatting.

Basically its this, I think: Legolas as a cool elf who did all this amazing elfy martial arts stuff on wires! We should do that again, people really liked it! But this time its not a white male, so its even better, its diverse and inclusive!

The FBI has destroyed its reputation, so when its agents testify, everyone is going to assume they are lying. So all their cool tools, investigations and stuff will result in no convictions.

263 It's called "Irish Democracy." It's where people don't do anything dramatic, they just stop going along.

The FBI has destroyed its reputation, so when its agents testify, everyone is going to assume they are lying. So all their cool tools, investigations and stuff will result in no convictions.

And thanks to the Nasser stupidity, they'll open themselves up to lawsuits, and each one they lose will make the other ones more plausible.

Federal criminal jury trials are more or less non-existent even now, the Whitmer charade notwithstanding. I do think Irish Democracy is the future, to be clear, but the Regime's least concern is its utterly fraudulent "criminal justice system." There will be even fewer federal criminal jury trials once the acquittals pile up and the process will become the punishment, which is more or less the case now. Saddam's Iraq had a higher acquittal rate than the federal system. Seriously.

It's a better film than La Femme Nikita because France doesn't have the death penalty. The US does, so you can do the whole "you're already dead" thing.

Also, the French movie hinges upon family (because this is very important to Europeans - are you a noble or peasant) whereas the US film is about an emotional bond, which if you are already dead, is all you can hope for.

When I was a kid, I had a book that waa a compendium of various Superman comics from the 30s to the 70s. Superman didn't used to be so super, but during the 50s in the general hypy wonder world of the time (and no suspicion that adults would ever care in the future) they kept amping his powers to make for new blockbuster stories. Eventually they made him so powerful they were stuck with everything either having to be emotional breakdowns or Kryptonite AGAIN... but as I said, nobody was worried about comic book heroes having to have appeal to grownups, just grade school kids.

Same as how the Left, if they were merely "incompetent", would sometimes do things that are accidentally good for America. Yet they never do. It's always seemingly the worst, most destructive decisions possible. That doesn't go on by happenstance.

I don't think that's true, brother. Trump can request anything be declassified but it has to go through a process.

Yes, technically President Trump can declassify anything. However, it is also true that technically POTUS doesn’t actually declassify anything. The Office of the President asks for a document to enter into a declassification review process.

Officials within that process (ODNI, DoD, DoS, FBI, DOJ-NSD, CIA, NSA, etc), based on their unique relationship to the interests within the document(s), can approve or refuse to sign-off based on their specific intelligence interests. This is where compartmented intelligence comes into play.

Any officer who refuses the request for declassification must justify to the intelligence hub; the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI, Dan Coats). The executive branch intelligence official tells the ODNI (Dan Coats) why they, their unique interests, cannot approve of the declassification request.

414 Rothenberg ob der Tauber has a similar (if not as elaborate a clock) setup in their town clock. Except at noon it's a little play with the figures in the windows. The play depicts when the burgermeister of the town saved the town from being sacked.

IIRC, the potential sackers didn't believe the huge mug they saw was really something in the town drank out of. So it became a challenge - if the (very large and alcoholic) burgermeister could drink the draught in one drink, without coming up for air, then they wouldn't sack the town.

He did. They didn't. The town commemorated it in their clock.

420 That can't be legal can it? No state has the authorization to force a business to pay their employees a certain amount.
Why stop there? Why couldn't the state mandate three 6 hour days, yet force businesses to pay at the 40 hour rate?
Posted by: rickb223 at August 11, 2022 07:55 PM (c8pZY)

I believe the only restraint on the state mandating minimum wage and OT laws is that the rate cannot be enforced below federal MW, and of course, the rage of the electorate.

And of course, that means most wage jobs will become part time jobs AND NOT INSURED PER OBAMACARE

And in this way our woke, progressive masters care for us. Do you know if Ag is also requiring OT? Per federal FSLA it is not liable for OT and most states follow suite
