"She Done Us Dirty:" Wyoming Republicans Say "Hell, No" When Asked If They'll Be Voting for Toadlike Swamp Nepotess Liz Cheney

Via Twitchy. A clip of a CNN "journalist" desperately pleading with Republican to vote for Cheney, and being rebuffed at every turn, below the fold.

Tristan Justice writes about the Sad! nepotess' final days in Congress at The Federalist.

Liz Cheney did her usual trick of doing a quick touch-down in Wyoming -- it's the big square you pass over on the way to a San Francisco fundraiser -- and getting her picture taken there, just to prove she is still capable of locating her "home" state on the map, and then flying right back home to Washington, DC.

For Cheney, the breakfast [at a rodeo fair] offered the perfect opportunity to show face without spending time with constituents left angry by the rarity of their sole congresswoman's home state presence and her politically charged work as vice chair of the Jan. 6 Committee.

"We need to move on, and go do different things," said Maria Lemke, an accountant and 25-year resident of Cheyenne who said Cheney's role on the committee, combined with her frequent absence from the state, has led her to cast a vote for Trump-endorsed primary challenger Harriet Hageman.
"She's from Wyoming," were the first words Lemke said when asked what she liked about Hageman, who just 10 feet away was mingling with vendors in the fairground's expo center.

Justice notes that half of Wyoming's acreage is controlled by the federal government, and this is the first time in recent memory that the Congressman from Wyoming is not on the Natural Resources Committee. Kevin McCarthy has already promised to appoint Hagemann to the committee, should she win, and she should. She really should.

Liz Cheney will move to the CNN, MSNBC, and Brookings Institute Opportunities for Grift Committees.

Liz Cheney shows her allegiance to The Regime by, as the Establishment types do, showing her perfect contempt for the priorities of her actual voters.

An NPR-Marist-PBS NewsHour poll released last week showed only 2 percent of Republicans say the Jan. 6 committee hearings are top of mind ahead of the midterm elections.
And 83 percent of Republicans still have a favorable view of Trump, according to the poll.
Hageman, who has repeated Trump's false claims the 2020 election was stolen, is leading Cheney by 22 points, or 52 percent to 30 percent, according to a Casper Star-Tribune poll released earlier this month.

"The big story is Liz Cheney is going to get beat," said Brad Coker, the managing director of the polling firm Mason-Dixon Polling & Strategy, which conducted the poll for the Star-Tribune, in a statement.
Two-thirds of respondents in the poll said they disapproved of the job Cheney was doing, while 54 percent said they are less likely to support the lawmaker because of her role on the Jan. 6 committee.

The practice is for a president to authorize his defense secretary to deploy troops in times of crisis upon receipt of a request and then let the Pentagon order deployment once that plea for help is made
That's what Trump did in the days before the Jan. 6 riot, and what President George H.W. Bush and then-Defense Secretary Dick Cheney did during the violence that exploded in Los Angeles in the spring of 1992 after a jury acquitted police officers in the attack on Rodney King, according to the 2018 historical review from the Combat Studies Institute at Fort Leavenworth. That study acknowledged there remains much ambiguity about how the law applies to federal troop deployments on U.S. soil.

Quick update - unfortunately her atrial fib w/ high heart rate and her significant edema have been WAY too stubborn, plus they found another infection that they’re treating w/twice daily IV antibiotics. So rehab is on hold until she’s more stable. Yesterday she was feeling a bit better, but she still has a hard road ahead - but it’s NOT an impossible road! Will stay in touch and we both appreciate the continued prayers.

42 She and her husband own a vacation property in Teton County they use as a voting address. Her parents have a property in the same village they use for a voting address as well. Teton County is the only Democratic county in the state. It's where Jackson Hole is located.

If she ever lived there f/t it was in 1977 and 1978, during the interval between her father's stint as Gerald Ford's chief of staff and the time he entered Congress. She hasn't actually lived there in the intervening years. She's spent > 3/4 of her life in metro Washington. Her sister lived in Colorado for some time, but now lives in NoVa. Her family had a nominal address there during her father's years in Congress (1979-93), but their palpable residence was in NoVa and she and her sister received their diplomas from a high school in Fairfax County. Her parents decamped to Texas in 1995, when he was tapped to run Halliburton.

Her maternal uncle lives in Casper. He has a daughter who lives with her family in Cody. That's all the family she has there.

They'll try, but it's harder to do that in Wyoming simply because there aren't enough Democrats there. If her support is really in the single digits among Republicans, all the crossover vote in the state can't carry Cheney, and cheating at the scale required would be extremely difficult. Time will, of course, tell - but Wyoming is probably one of the hardest places to try to do that. There just aren't enough Democrats.

Trump served a purpose. That purpose is now passed. If he runs again, and gets nominated again, he will get in the way of whatever progress there is to be made.

I think there are a lot of LIVs in the state who aren't paying much attention to J6 (or anything else) and will vote based on name recognition. I hope I'm wrong. Completely agreed here, ace. I support Trump over DeSantis because Trump has personally paid the price - oh, I'd say at least a billion times over - for fighting for us when nobody else did. I also think DeSantis has distinct disadvantages that make him vulnerable to RINO influence. DeSantis, however, is my first choice - by a lot - in 2028. If, for some reason, Trump doesn't get the nomination this time around, I'm walking over crushed glass to make sure DeSantis is the guy in 2024, no matter my objections with him today.

There are other more reasonable arguments for Trump over DeSantis. The baked cake with Trump works both for and against him, whether you like that or not.

When the Global Headlines come out about DeSantis partying with "underage girls", it's going to be sticky and will upset the Karens. WE know it means "underage" for drinking but the media is going to imply sex and stick that word to him.

We only have a small sense of how he will handle it because it was thrown at him once. But not by the UK and Australian Press. Not by All 17 Intelligence Agencies who are investigating how far his "underage girl" interest goes. Not by the Blasey Fords they have in the wings. DeSantis has had a light tickly breeze on him so far. There's a SuperStorm coming.

Meh. I look at the top of the GOP ticket every election between Reagan and Trump, and would rather have a revenge-focused Trump than any of them. He got around a 20% increase in the number of votes between his first and second election, showing he must be popular to somebody (and, strangely, being the only presidential candidate with that kind of vote increase NOT to win reelection).

Plus, him winning would make all the right people super deranged. That alone is worth the price.

I have slightly more optimism, but not a lot more. Some of what he was getting ready to do in his second term - especially the rescheduling of a lot of federal employees, which would have dire consequences on their continued employment - was extremely promising. He also had some pretty severe failures - election integrity and COVID come immediately to mind - but the real question in my mind is, "how much what he holding in reserve because he had to win re-election?" Would a lame-duck Trump be a lot ballsier than before on the "drain the swamp" stuff? I don't know. If he's the candidate, I'll vote for him.

But I am also much more cynical than many in that I kind of think that the presidency is more or less a false prize at this point anyway.

I think debate is healthy. We say that as Republicans all the time. In fact it often goes further into "Democrats are afraid of debate". Well, if we're being intellectually honest and consistent that means this "any criticism of Trump is not allowed" stance, is pure sophism.

Trump is getting old. He often rambles on and repeats himself. He almost always leads with his ego. That's just fact and Most people can give numerous examples. That doesn't mean he can't win again. Well, go listen to Trump try to explain his health care plan during the republican debates and maybe you'll understand why I am less sanguine about his ability to briefly and *cogently* make his case about The Steal.

I worry he will just start babbling, like he did about health care.

You can say "He says X in his self-directed statements" but that's not the same as what he would say when confronted or called upon to defend his claims.

I don't think he'd be quick and concise and just cite strong cases like, say, the Wisconsin Supreme Court. I think he'd just start babbling.

Also, Liz Cheney fund raising is right-on. But I'm not sure what she was thinking. On the one hand my boss is (sort of) joking when he asks me if there were any subpoena's in the mail (other locals who never when anywhere near DC got subpoenaed) and at the same time here's another pious fund raising letter from Liz Cheney.

But here's why it's useful to pick a candidate with previous executive level experience in government; Dem's in Florida have been hating on DeSantis for 4 years now, desperate to find anything to undermine him, and failing at every turn. It's not like no one has been looking, every Democrat operative in Florida has been looking for at least 4 years. And they've come up with goose eggs. It's like all the financial investigations into Trump's business - once you know that everything has already been gone through by the IRS and NY Tax Dept's, the chance of any new investigation finding something they missed is between slim and none.

I think DeathSantis will handle it fine. I have my doubts about how well his appeal carries over to a national stage, but that's not based on any likelihood to fold under pressure. He's a fighter like Trump. My bigger concerns are how his young FAMILY reacts to him being called a child molester and probably even worse. And they will go after his family. We already saw it with Melania and Baron. How do they hold up?

Plus, there WILL be additional revelations about supposed dastardly deeds from shady liars like Ford. It will be the kitchen sink. That's less of a risk with Trump because they already threw the kitchen sink and indeed the entire house at him.

It remains to be seen whether you can have Trumpism without Trump. In theory, yes. DeathSantis comes close, although see my comments above about my concerns with him.

Right now, "Trumpism" without Trump is getting a boost by having Trump still around and a potential candidate. Trumpism is still connected to Trump, and the left and their media whores still concentrate their fire on him.

But if Trump were to walk away for good? I'm not sure Trumpism survives. Maybe. Hopefully.

I think it boils down to this: Trump is a pain in the ass who says boorish, inarticulate things that many GOPers don't want to have to defend. They resent having to defend him all of the time.

But they're wrong, I think, in two ways. (1) Some of these folks are the same people who just found it too unbearably icky to have to do things like disapprove of homosexuality publicly, and we can see where that's landed us in the culture wars. This group is made up of folks who thinks being genteel and civil will be rewarded, contrary to virtually all available evidence. (2) Some don't realize how far the Overton Window has shifted to the left. The media, social media, elite opinion, virtually all institutions are on the other side. But there are some who have convinced themselves that the polite, well-spoken GOPer will somehow get a fairer shake. Both really have the same flaw in common: they think it can be the 1990s again, that we are not going to have to fight tooth and nail for the foreseeable future.

We've discussed this before. My concern is that Trump seems to find it very difficult to share the spotlight, and usually ends up diminishing his competition. I don't want to see that happen to DeSantis. Also, why would DeSantis go from a position of real prominence, where he can accomplish things and make himself known to the country (as he has), for a position last held by Kamala Harris, Mike Pence, and Joe Biden?

It was THE path to the presidency in the first few decades.

I imagine it stopped being so because horsetrading in the 1800s led to less than popular political figures, but powerful behind the scenes, getting their spots on the cabinet followed by presidents looking to diminish potential rivals from gaining traction within the party.

I don't think it's impossible anymore, and the one part of DeSantis' resume that will get attacked (legitimately) the most will be his lack of foreign policy experience.

For example, Churchill was unpopular with voters and polls until he was not. The reason that he became popular as he was the only major political figure that was correct when the issue of Germany came up. There are other examples from history. The hour makes the man, not vice versa.

The conundrum is that college educated people (which are a minority in this country) think Trump is icky and often claim as a result that others find him icky. The blue collar and a lot of minority folks do not--they may oppose him and Republicans on policy grounds but his behavior in office does not disturb them that much. That is the same way that they rationalize supporting people like Maxine Waters, etc. Lower class voters know they are going to get shit on but as long as they get a piece of the action--they will support that pol. Most lower class voters are in fact very transactional in their voting--they vote for who they believe benefits them.

My support for Trump is nothing if not more intense. I feel he will hit the ground running with much more meaningful support than 16. Too, what better financial president could we elect from either side of the isle? Nothing at all against any of the seemingly deep republican bench. Yes. Few people are rational and objective--most people rationalize their choices rather than purely rational analysis.

To me, the biggest joker in the deck for Trump is the death rate and fertility problems from the vaxx complications seems to be accelerating throughout the world. For example, six relatively young doctors died in Canada in the same hospital after they were required to take a fourth vax shot. The spike does something very nefarious to our blood system and normally the body itself would clear it from an infection. But, the vaxx which is not a vaccine as we would define it traditionally, is causing havoc among those that would have lived even with an infection and appears to increase the risk of getting Covid infections. That is leaving off the apparent effects on global fertility.

It was agreed upon statehood for AK that those lands would be passed on to the State except for military bases. That never happened. Go figure. Every once in a while AK sues the feds for rights to our own lands, including waterways. We usually win, but not until spending a lot of money to do so.
