  • One final purchase, a 2TB NVMe drive from Amazon for the new spare laptop. Specifically the Samsung 970 EVO Plus, which is what I recommend to people who need a good M.2 drive and are wondering what to get.

It's "only" PCIe 3 and "only" does about 3.5GB per second and 620,000 IOPS, with a read latency around 50 microseconds, and only costs about 20% than garbage like the Kingston NV1. The reason I didn't get it for my larger laptops is it "only" goes up to 2TB.

And the reason for the purchase is that HP Australia doesn't do build-to-order; there's exactly two models available of the Aero 13, and since the 512GB model is on sale and the 1TB model is not, buying my own SSD and installing it saves me about A$550 - and gives me twice the storage capacity.

  • So the IRS cancelled their plans to force people to audition for a movie role before they could file their taxes online only after seven million people had handed over all their details to a private contractor. (Washington Post / MSN)

So, what happens to all your private data now? According the IRS, the answer is that individual users can log in and delete their data... Maybe.

Movie Trailer That Somehow Does Not Look Like Complete Garbage of the Day

I am not sure whether it would be older people who want to be timely in filing their taxes or young people desperate for cash and completely oblivious to the security implications.

28 Guten morgen, all,

The cold front (43 F. here, tropical to many of you) has come through. Cool and windy and damp, and it's only going to be about 55 as a high. The kind of weather we should have had in October or November.

Last night I dreamed I was a public official here, and another member of the city council had a vendetta against me -- was looking for any transgression, a speeding ticket, anything, to embarrass me with the public. I kept telling him, "I have no desire to run for mayor! I want to move away from here -- you can have the job!" But he didn't believe me. Weird.

29 Chekov the Epic Ailing Codger Cat is eating and moving around again, though with some difficulty. We've got to get his appetite stimulant fluid into him every day as well as the anti-inflammatory. On the weekends we can separate the two by 12 hours or so. During the week it'll have to be one med at 5:30 and another at 7:30. It'll be worth it, I guess, if he eats and gains strength.

It is clear that in the not-too-distant future, you will be called to serve your community/group. This will not be sought by you; rather, circumstances will demand it. You will do the hard thing because it's the right thing.

Now, show me your palm.

I'm happy with my Lenovo Tab M8 FHD (currently $120), but I use that mostly for reading; the processor is not fast by today's standards.

What games do you play? The stuff I play (mostly Kairosoft) runs just fine.

Morning, MLII,

He's doing a bit better. Though he seems to be less social, at least with me. If he's in the living room when I get up, he decamps to the bedroom, and vice versa. At the same time he purrs when I pet him and when we groom him. He was always a pretty affectionate cat -- so I imagine that he is embarrassed to be seen eating and walking so poorly. Cats have a pretty strong self___. That, and the instinctive desire to be safe from predators while eating or ill. At least he's not hiding under the bed or armchair.

49 SSD prices could spike after contamination of 6.5 billion gigabytes of Western Digital NAND chips.
Western Digital says it has lost at least 6.5 exabytes (6.5 billion gigabytes) of flash storage due to contamination issues at Western Digital's joint venture partner's NAND production facilities. As per the law of supply and demand, the contamination could see the price of NAND chip spike up to 10 percent.

Yup. Peele is single-handedly responsible for putting a stake through the heart of Rod Serling and his brilliant Twilight Zone franchise. The 2019 reboot of the series was SOFA KING AWFUL with its smash-you-in-the-face woke race-baiting as to make it totally unwatchable.

His new effort is aptly titled.

NOPE. Not watching.

51 The anti-ChiCom in me considers throwing the Baidu bots to a wholly-different HTTP server, hosting a lot of SEO-friendly buzzwords that would catapult it to the top of the list for some innocuous yet high-traffic topic, like video gaming or something.

And then when you get traffic from standard .CN IP's, switch over to a third HTTP server that delivers such wholesome content such as Xi-faced Winnie the Pooh, Tiananmen Square, and something-something-mud-horse. Among others.

Posted by: Another Anon at February 13, 2022 12:07 PM (bW28E)

52 I think Peele said something some time ago about not having whites or having a minimal amount in his productions. If I remember correctly it was around the time his 'Get Out' movie came out.
