The last video reminds me of my own cat's shenanigans.
At one point I had a spring door stop. My cat figured out she could reach under the door, pull and release the doorstop to make an impressively loud thwang sound. She'd do this if she thought I was sleeping too long. When I remove the door stop, she found other creative ways to wake me. Here's my general theory about being born in the technological sweet spot. This is of course general and not always applicable to those younger and older but...
Why it's so great to have been born in that Gen X/Millennial nebulous time period of the late 70s early 80s. Growing up in a technological estuary of old stuff and new tech along with the rapid advance that forced us to adapt to newer crap, we still had rotary phones and button phones. From VCRs becoming common to getting dvds and then blu-rays. The rapid advance of computers and video game systems. Give us tech, new or old, that we've never seen before and we're going to start scrolling through menus and figure it out. Posted by: buzzion at February 02, 2022 08:27 PM (vMCab) 182

hazarding a guess, "meter" started to be used because you're "measuring" the line of the poem.
But "feet" is probably connected to the "-amb"... iambs, dithyrambs, etc... meaning "step" (as in "ambulatory" or "perambulate"). Each stressed node is a "step" when you're walking off the line in question. Possibly even literally connected to the act of reciting something while marching or pacing. I could also, of course, be completely wrong. Posted by: Warai-otoko at February 02, 2022 08:53 PM (6FeV1) 256

BTW, a lot of BOC's lyrics were written by people associated with the band, such as their founding manager (Sandy Pearlman), some weirdo named Richard Meltzer, and Patti Smith. Pearlman was into crafting songs based on lyrics as literature, not poetry intended to have a beat. That's why much of it lacks meter (and why their music is predominantly riff-based). Check out the song "Workshop of the Telescopes", side 2, song 4 of their first album. No way that can have any kind of fixed meter. Also, while the lyrics appear quite impenetrable, they're actually about Queen Elizabeth I and her occult advisors. Cool stuff when you learn about it.

Anyone speak cat? I had a strange encounter this afternoon. I was on the way to the garage when I saw a large, obviously well fed, grey striped, and what I assumed to be feral, cat, running across the back fence line. It had no collar.
I called out "Hi cat", and it stopped, looked at me and meowed. It then walked a few feet, sat down partially obscured by a bush, and stared at me for a good 30 seconds. I gave it the slow blink but it just stared and then turned and walked off behind the garage. I don't know if I made a friend or not. Posted by: Javems at February 02, 2022 09:03 PM (AmoqO) 293

I bought a high-end Lenovo Legion 7 a few months back and, aside from the full keyboard being too damned cramped for the chassis, I've enjoyed it thus far. Performance-wise, it crushes anything else I have and it won't thermal-throttle despite the heavy loads. It feels reasonably sturdy build-wise. Hopefully it'll work out for a while. It's the first laptop I've bought since my 2013 Macbook Pro which is being put out to pasture by Apple via them denying OS updates past Catalina which goes EOL this year. Soon, it'll be a fancy Linux netbook. For various reasons, I'm not in the market for another Apple product. Also, Asus screwed me out of a warranty repair so they're on my perpetual shitlist.
