I just swept up a mess of kitter feed. Crime scene and witness concludes the Derpy One was drinking water then backed up stepping in kitter kibble. Instinct kicks in, thinks she is getting eaten by a lion. Goes from zero to 60 in 2 seconds. Scares kitter 2, tail floofs up, scatters moer kitter kibble. 1/2 cup kitter kibble can and does cover 200 square feet of flooring.

Baboons, needless to say, are fairly clever. Staff advised us at this safari camp in Kenya to make sure we were up if we wanted the biscuits and tea in the morning. Whoever it was I was rooming with, and I, were up, and we saw the reason for the advice.
These were tents on wood decks, little "porch" out front, where table and chairs were placed. We were out there when they brought the grub by. Half of our group weren't up - the baboons were calmly and systematically going from porch to porch, enjoying the edibles on their porches. Posted by: rhomboid at January 31, 2022 08:25 PM (OTzUX) 32

Has a plausible explanation ever been put forth as to what the Pyramid was actually used for? The overall internal construction is really strange. It looks to have some technical purpose.
Before the outer covering was looted, the main entrance wasn't visible, its location wasn't known. That is an amazing feat in itself. The door was hinged, and fit so closely as that nobody could find it. That's why they blasted a hole in it, this is the entrance still used today. Booze thread! So got the Cana Fuerte 16-yr rum (allegedly a true age statement, not solera, or average age). Unspecified "Central American" cane origins, probably = Nicaragua. Under $40, good for something that old. Pretty good, tastes like no sugar added. For value proposition, good. Only having discovered its cousin (same Dutch company bottling/distributing it) a bit earlier somewhat tempers my enthusiasm. Ron Allegro XO, Dominican, solera, average 8 years. Really really good, and only about $35. Best/best value Spanish-style I've yet had, but the exploration is in early stages. As I recall from reading, Egyptian burials started from a simple grave to having a small structure built over the grave in order to leave food offerings for the deceased's ka, and these eventually grew larger and more extensive until, in the end, you ended up with yuge complexes of stone covering the grave of the Pharaoh. This doesn't explain mysteries of the Great Pyramid such as the Long Gallery or the empty sarcophagus, but there you are. Dinty Moore (and Hormel Chili, alas) no longer use actual chunks of stew meat. Similar to MRE beef stew, they now use "chunked and formed" meat scraps and floor sweepings held together with "meat glue". No amount of simmering will make it tender. Canned food has always been a little sketchy, but it's really bad now.
They ruined it, basically. Posted by: Common Tater at January 31, 2022 08:32 PM (EmDt7) 55

Mr Aspirin Factory, same here. But not that disappointed I didn't get to Egypt. I did Jordan and Oman instead when I had my opportunities, also UAE. Very happy with those - first two especially well worth visiting. General considerations - cost, crowding, "touristy-ness", security - had me pre-soured on Egypt. Have friends who've lived there, but they're way into it, speak the dialect, obviously can get a lot more out of it. I'm just not big on sprawling 3rd World megalopolises, so, Cairo didn't appeal.

the BASE in BASE jumping is an acronym:
Buildings Aerials (Antennas) Spans (Bridges) Earth (Cliffs and whatnot) You can also combine BASE jumping with wingsuit flying, which is where, to my understanding, most of the deaths come from. BASE is a low margin of error to begin with, and adding in the dynamics of a wingsuit to a pursuit where you're already on the razor's edge is not conducive to your longevity. Right, but to suggest they actually cut those obelisks with hammer stones is insane. This is how the "it was aliens!!" nutbars gain traction in the first place. Quarry a slab, and then trim it down to obelisk shape, but leave pairs of knobs on opposing sides, every 5 feet or so, down it's whole length. Dig a long, slanting trench, reaching 105 feet at its deep end; near vertical walls. Slaves are expendable, eh. Use rollers to slide the obeslisk down the slope of the trench until its butt end meets bottom, and them use prybars and ropes to slowly raise it to vertical. Then use wooden prybars and fulcrums, lifting on wooden cages locked to the knobs, to lift obelisk a yard or so, and fill in below it. Rinse and repeat. When a new set of knobs appears, chisel off previous set. Add decorative carvings as you go. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at January 31, 2022 09:30 PM (P3gRi) 255

There is a French engineer (whose name escapes me) that has what I think is the best pyramid building theory. He argues that the ramp for moving the stones was actually inside the construction and not a separate project.
He worked out the degree of slope that spiral ramp would need, and what it could not exceed if you were going to drag stones up it. He figured that on certain levels as the construction rose there would be areas where the couldn't place blocks so they could make the turns, and sure enough at those particular levels the corners are built from smaller blocks than the other levels. A French archeology team-unrelated to this guy, completely separate project-did a series of sonar and radar scans of the great pyramid and found that there is a spiral shaped trail of looser material that runs from the base to the top of the structure. It seems to be from the back filling the ramp behind them on the way out. Posted by: the guy that moves pianos (meh, it's a living) at January 31, 2022 09:35 PM (3DZIZ) 279

o Kindl, you're saying that an ancient form of globalization and supply chain fragility doomed the Bronze Agers?
What's "just in time" in the language of the time? Posted by: rhomboid at January 31, 2022 09:22 PM (OTzUX) I think it was overcentralization, due to the requirements of bringing in tin from so far away, down a trading chain. And that central power led to centralization of all the economy I envisioned a trading axis between Crete and Anatolia (Hittites and independents like Troy) for bronze and finished goods, that went through Greece. When the Greek city states developed the pentaconter they eclipsed the Minoans, and when things started getting tight the Greek cities allied to take Crete, Cyprus and Troy: when the alliance broke down and the Hittites and the Egyptians fought to a near standstill at Kadesh and became ineffective in controlling their borderlands the various warring groups decided to grab their own kingdoms in the Eastern Med. Today, Gun Owners of America announced that the ATF has nearly 1 Billion records of firearm purchases, with over 850 million of those records in digital format. These records contain all sorts of personal information on gun owners in addition to the gun they've purchased. Important personal information, including their names, addresses, place of birth, sometimes even social security numbers, can all be found on these records.
The firearm transaction records that the ATF is referring to is the ATF Form 4473. Federal law currently states that a firearms dealer can destroy 4473 forms after 20 years. If a firearms dealer goes out of business or closes before those 20 years, federal law says dealers must hand over those forms to the ATF. Posted by: Cat Ass Trophy at January 31, 2022 09:48 PM (F4b8f) 308
So the ATF currently is in possession of nearly 1 Billion of these records. Here's the direct quote attributed to the ATF from GOA: "In total, ATF manages 920,664,765 OBR as of November 2021. This includes digital and an estimated number of hard copy records that are awaiting image conversion. It is currently estimated that 865,787,086 of those records are in a digitalized format."

"Derpa derpa deedlety derp... I'm from an advanced society, and *I'm" not smart enough to make a pyramid so nobody ever has been and it's muh alienz." Oh. They allow local governments to search the database.
So how does the ATF justify this massive privacy invasion of gun owners? They claim that "the vast majority of criminal firearms traces are done for state and local law enforcement agencies pertaining to active investigations." But interestingly, in true Federal Government style, they also mention that they have no idea how effective this system is and if any of the information leads to the successful prosecution of gun crimes. If they were using core drills, that was probably to make a starting point for the rope saw cut. But I would not rule out circular saws, either. Probably soft material, charged with abrasive. They had a very good motive for exaggerating losses, as the whole reason for them was to 'break' Germany. Comparing the dead buried on the front in German records doesn't add up. No less than Winston Churchill noticed this in his history of the Great War. There are some severe battles the allies had near Verdun that are not recorded since they had already claimed they had captured the area months before.
