Salt Lake Tribune: We Should Mobilize The National Guard to Imprison the Unvaccinated In Their Homes

Via Twitchy, our nasty, vicious communist temporary countrymen continue demonstrating the need for separating from them.

Government officials, mostly but not exclusively Republicans, were apparently determined not to be caught governing in the face of this challenge. Any move or recommendation to mask up or, when safe and effective vaccines became available, to make vaccination a requirement of admission to public places and society in general was shouted down as an unwarranted imposition on individual freedoms.
Instead we were left to listen to various forms of foolishness and misinformation, promises of being rescued by everything from a bleach cocktail to horse dewormers to, most recently, drinking our own urine.
So now we are free all right. Free to fend for ourselves. To watch our children lose weeks, months or more of their precious educational opportunities. To wonder whether it is safe to go to work or to the store or to sporting events. To see businesses close for want of employees or lack of customers.

Not that Biden is blameless in all this. Seeing the obvious reluctance of so many people to get, or to require, vaccinations has only now moved him to push to make tests and the most effective kind of masks available to everyone. It's the right thing to do, but months late.
Utah House Speaker Brad Wilson Friday offered an absurd, and all too typical, defense of the government's failure to act.
"This pandemic has proven to be anything but predictable," Wilson said. "We all recognize that so we need to be very flexible and adaptable as we move through this current wave."
But the omicron variant now rippling through humanity was predicted. There is consensus among epidemiologists (long before COVID) that viruses tend to mutate into less potent but more easily transmissible variants, which is exactly what happened. And the challenge is the same as it was with alpha and delta: Most people weather it OK, but the serious cases are still enough to overwhelm hospitals.
We might have headed off omicron with a herd immunity-level of vaccinations, but that would have required a vaccination mandate, which our leaders refused. Instead, we get, "No one could have seen this coming." That is patently untrue. They were told what to do, and they refused.
Were Utah a truly civilized place, the governor's next move would be to find a way to mandate the kind of mass vaccination campaign we should have launched a year ago, going as far as to deploy the National Guard to ensure that people without proof of vaccination would not be allowed, well, anywhere.
But it may be too late for that, politically and medically.
In the meantime, get vaccinated. If you are sick, stay home. And let your elected officials at all levels know that you expected them to lead us out of this mess, not stand by and meekly express concern.

If the media is going to demand thuggishly authoritarian measures against the populace, perhaps the populace should begin debating thuggishly authoritarian measures against the media.

Most of the people currently hospitalized are vaccinated. Most of them got infected by somebody else who was also vaccinated.

Yes, there is some evidence now that the vaccines actually made people more, not less, susceptible to the omicron variation.

I've thought about this before; what we could do to make a difference in all that has happened and came to the conclusion that most of it can be laid at the feet of the lying and misrepresentation by the media. So they are the ones to target for demanding some discussions and for doing whatever it takes to get them to change what they are doing. It isn't relevant. Whether it works or not is beside the point. The core problem is that they are afraid of making decisions and afraid of being wrong, so they want to be told what to do - and to have *everyone* be told to do the same thing - so as to absolve them of responsibility.

If they make a bad choice, it will reflect on them. If everyone is compelled to do the same thing and it doesn't work, that's just bad luck.

Mexico used to be pretty nice, up til about 15 years ago or so. Then the cartels completely took over and all the governmental systems really just fell apart. For people who are fans of anarchy, go there today and you'll get a good view of what real world anarchy looks like. They didn't "reveal" anything. The CDC's running count has usually had a breakdown by number of comorbidities, but they and the media usually only mention the total "with" whenever it's discussed.

But since the beginning of the scam, that "from" number (0 comorbidities) has always been 3 to 6 % of the publicized value.

There's actually two different things being discussed, and both are "voting rights" bills. The Big Bad is the horrific "John Lewis Voting Rights Bill" which would mandate mail in ballots and vote harvesting across the country, and take away any state control of elections. That's what Schumer is trying to get a vote on, that's what's probably dead.

Now some of the Senate Dems and their GOP-e buddies are trying to put together a separate more limited bill to clarify how the votes are counted, so that State Legislatures could not do what was talked about after the fraudulection. Not sure how this would happen, it's all just speculation so far, but that's what Romney was talking about.

so I missed the kollidge thread b/c I was ... moving kid 1 back into college! I had read AJ Kay's thing before bc her daughter was in a women's college so I found that kind of interesting. and is very happy at Hillsdale (Ms Kay did name the school). this is good info for kid 2

anyway surprising normal at kid 1 small LAC! they are saying "we really mean it about masking" this semester but I didn't wear one and didn't see the kids really wearing them either. everyone was happy to return. classes are in person (masked, I guess). no booster requirement, altho they'd super appreciate it. no testing requirement really altho they sent out an email about bringing a rapid test like two days before move in and I couldn't find any so they were like "oh whatevs."

sometimes small schools are pretty chill it really depends. I'm assuming Ms Kay's daughter went to Smith or Mt Holyoke or something - somewhere in New England. New England out side of NH has lost its mind.

And I remember telling people everyone is going to get COVID eventually.

So when the rushed vaccines came out I decided to wait at least 2 years to see just how safe and effective they'd be.

And...in that time I learned COVID is less dangerous then originally claimed (and getting less so) and the shots far more dangerous...so I'm pretty happy with my choice.

It seems reasonable to me to accept the claim that Omicron is fairly non-deadly and basically a head cold. I can also go along with the claim that it is outcompeting Delta.

What doesn't add up is that more and more basically healthy people in my circles are ending up in the hospital or morgue now than at the beginning of the pandemic. I don't know what to think.

I think many like Beck have come around to realize just how wrong they were, but you still have the problem of only "moderates" running the best campaigns for office in the state, and if you're on the R ticket, that's pretty much a lock for winning (excepting the 2nd congressional district).

Same here, except I didn't have a timeline, really. I just watched a bit and paid attention to risks and treatments and shots and took vitamin D in the meantime. Glad I waited, because now I see that the shots are far more likely to kill me than Covid is, especially now that I have natural immunity. The main risk factor is beyond my control: what kind of nasty mutations might result from leaky vaccines that could evade my immunity.

Nobody on the ground *knows* what variant they had. Some people in a far off land are able to discern the difference. But tests samples aren't being routed to them, and no such conclusive information is reaching the infected or their doctors. At best, it is a guess, like most other diagnoses, based on combined information.

Yeah, my classifications are certainly not official. I'm just assuming Delta is more likely for hospitalized and Omicron is more likely for brief, mild illness. I also wonder about people who claim they've had Covid two or three times. Wouldn't there be cross-immunity among the variants? Or are they not really variants of the same virus? Or do these people think every time they get a seasonal cold or flu that it must be Covid?

So its not really generally able to tell the difference between Detla an Omicron on a regular treating basis. So they generally don't know, but decide based upon retrospect and symptoms response. And yes a lot of the people who had it more than once, had something else. You may indeed get it more than once, supposedly, but its not very common at all. You probably have some other issue going, if you really got it twice.

So: the Salt Lake Tribune has always been the "Anti-Mormon" paper. Founded in the 1800s specifically to attack the LDS church, it has always been a paper whose goal was to be more left wing than that solidly conservative New York Times or Washington Post. They are like the Guardian. So don't take anything you read in the Trib as representative of Utah or members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Huntsman, who owns the paper, is an open apostate, and most of us here wish he would just go away.

Second, Utah is a solidly GOP state. Which means, sadly, that the leaders here are GOPe. There is a huge underground war between the conservative people and the GOPe "elite" here. The fight over who gets to nominate candidates has been bitter over the last 20 or so years, ever since the base sent Senator Bob Bennett packing.

Rural Utah, or Utah County, is solidly red conservative. But the "powers that be" want to be McConnells and romneys.

SARS 1 had lasting immunity. SARS 2 seems to not confer as good of a lasting immunity. Perhaps that is one of the functions gained in the lab? It's too soon to know. Since the vaccine doesn't prevent infection or prevent transmission, mandates are insane either way. Since we honestly have no idea what variant any particular patient has, blocking monoclonal antibody treatment is also insane. Mandates and treatment prevention are insane and immoral, actually. The media and the dems have to keep blaring the propaganda, because it appears somewhat effective. If enough people wake up and realize that their government has been forcing worthless shots on them, well...
