103 Proponents of communism often say it's never really been tried. Progressivism can no longer make that excuse. Its doctrines are being widely implemented by earnest practitioners with wide establishment support. The results have come in with astonishing speed. Mayhem and misery at an open national border. Riot and murder in lawless city neighborhoods. Political indoctrination of schoolchildren. Government by executive ukase. Shortages throughout the world's richest economy. Suppression of religion and private association. Regulation of everyday language - complete with contrived redefinitions of familiar words and ritual recantations for offenders.

This makes an easy case for national conservatism. Natcons are conservatives who have been mugged by reality. We have come away with a sense of how to recover from the horrors taking America down.

155 Titanic was a movie of two different worlds. On the one hand, you had the ship. On the other, you had the story which seemed to be Snidely Whiplash level caricatures of Gilded age people (Her Mom, Billy Zane.) It is like they were straw men that Cameron used to justify all of Rose's actions. That level of story telling would be continued and amplified with Avatar.

Cameron lost the plot after T2/True Lies. Although one could argue that the villains in ALL of his films were caricatures (The Abyss, True Lies.)

If anyone is concerned, Senator Tim Kaine is amongst the travelers still stranded on I-95 around the Fredericksburg area, as the interstate is still closed in both directions due to accidents in yesterdays snowfall.

A tale of struggle and survival that rivals Shackleton's voyage of the Endurance.

It's noted several times in the script that Rose and her mother are barely hanging on to their social position and needed Cal's money to keep their heads afloat. But we're supposed to cheer her 'following her bliss,' running after a poor artist and leaving her mother to rot.

At the end, remember all of those sepia-toned photos showing what a wonderful, adventurous life Rose had after the sinking? Not a word about Mama.

Yes. Bitch.

Modern electronic controls have done impressive things for the ability of cars to get through snow, given the right tires (many OE tires are not) and ground clearance (you're not going through 10in drifts.)

We had this kinda tragic lemming-like rush to FWD by Detroit in the '80s as a result of CAFE, because they do snow even if 2/3 of the market they should have been serving did not, as a result they gave up much of the market and ALL the high end of the market to the Germans and Japanese.

It's funny, yes, but there's a darker undercurrent. Just about any person glancing at Michelle Obama for a moment would draw the same conclusion: that's a homely woman.

The AI got it wrong. Okay, fine. There's a margin of error on everything. Except that the top-flight AI systems used at places like Amazon and Google are the systems that the technocrats want to put in charge of everything. They dream of a Colossus-like system that runs everything with top efficiency and dispassionate judgement (except for where it has to be tweaked to be "equitable"), but the software they're using mixes up men and women and confuses big rig trailers for clouds and street signs as moose. These systems are extremely clever and have remarkable capability, but they're also shocking stupid. And the technocrats want to give those systems the keys to everything.

For the teenage cohort--patients at least 12 years of age--the obesity rate was 61.4 percent. The severe obesity rate was 60.5 percent. Just one of the eligible patients had been vaccinated, and 11 patients died in total.

404 But what's the committee's real purpose? Let's ask Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.).

In an interview on CBS's Face the Nation, Cheney was asked by host Margaret Brennan if she intended to run for president against Trump in 2024, and Cheney said the quiet part out loud about the true goal of the committee.

"I'm very focused right now on my re-election and on the work of the select committee," Cheney replied. "I can tell you that the single most important thing, though, is to ensure that Donald Trump is not the Republican nominee and that he certainly is not anywhere close to the Oval Office ever again."

A moment of honesty! The committee doesn't care about justice for those involved; this whole charade is about preventing Donald Trump from running for president again.

Where I live now, they're the tops. The system feeding my region still has problems, but once it gets to my regional hub, it's smooth sailing all the way to my door. My local PO only rarely has a delay. My mailman is friendly and helpful and doesn't hesitate to bring packages to the door. It's a great, well-run outfit here.

I just the rule. It just says that the FFL has to have certified that it has gun storage or safety devices on the premises where the guns are kept. Presumably, they will prosecute FFLs for failing to lock up their inventory.

497 My mail lady left me a dozen fresh eggs from her flock last week.

Have I mentioned how much I love Oklahoma?

498 If the GOP were smart (I know, I know) every time a gun law were brought up, they'd create the exact same law but replace the word gun with CNN.

What is "it"? I'm reading the regulation published in the Federal Register.

501 492 "They have about a billion pages of regulation. Spin the wheel."

That's not the way it works.

The bureaucracies are also empowered to unilaterally add new regulations. That whole Congressional Review Act kerfluffle was that congress hadn't been reviewing them, the norm was(and is again) simply to just allow the bureaucracy to do as it pleases.

502 A moment of honesty! The committee doesn't care about justice for those involved; this whole charade is about preventing Donald Trump from running for president again.

I hope the y enjoy it when the President's 2026 budget zeroes out all spending in their states.

My good man, getting bogged down in actually analyzing the content and impact of a thousand page (written by lobbyist lawyers) bill is just NOT who we are!

505 "federal officials now are requiring that firearms retailers certify that they are selling gun safes, or similar products."

They are going after FFL's as they see this as a pinch point to limit gun sales and collect records. It's why they also want to outlaw private sales. It's a way to control the entire market without generating a lot of constitutional challenges.

At some point this scheme gets challenged. It about time we went after the GCA and started ripping that apart.

506 Dave, how much influence and control do Rinos have in the FL legislature, and do you expect any change after this year's election?

Also, are you concerned about the record spending proposal by DeSantis on public education?

Thanks in advance.
