Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Saturday Overnight Open Thread (12/18/21)A teacher asks the kids in her 3rd grade class, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Little Aaron says, "I wanna start out as a Fighter Pilot, then be a billionaire, go to the most expensive clubs, find me the finest whore, give her a Ferrari worth over a million bucks, an apartment in Copacabana, a mansion in Paris, a jet to travel throughout Europe, an infinite Visa Card and all the while banging her like a loose screen door in a hurricane." The teacher, shocked and not knowing what to do with this horrible response from little Aaron decides not to acknowledge what he said. And she simply tries to continue with the lesson. "And how about you, Sarah?" The teacher asks. "I wanna be Aaron's whore." (H/T CBD) The Miller High Life team nailed it. Their Gingerbread Dive Beer Kit is brilliant. Earlier this month they offered it for sale and, of course, it's already sold out. When I first came across an image of its box, I thought it was another clever, but faked, product. Nope, it's real and spectacular. Maybe he should have used a bra. A Florida man says he was kicked off a United Airlines flight Wednesday for wearing women’s underwear as a COVID-19 face mask. Adam Jenne, of Cape Coral, told FOX Business he wanted to make a point about what he regarded as the silliness of people having to wear masks on planes. He said he has been wearing women's underwear to highlight the absurdity of masks since last summer. The ONT Is Always Looking Out For YouTM. Obey these rules of the road. Isn't the object of robbing a bank to get away as fast as possible with as much cash possible? Not so according to our Genius Award Winner. DECEMBER 15--Moments after robbing a Wells Fargo branch in Delaware, a man deposited some of the stolen loot in an ATM outside the bank’s front door, according to police who arrested the suspect on a felony charge. Investigators say that McRoberts Williams, 44, approached a teller Saturday morning at a crowded Wells Fargo in Wilmington and handed her a note reading “This is a robbery, I need $150.” After the 25-year-old bank employee provided Williams with cash, he fled the bank. But instead of racing from the crime scene like your average bank robber, Williams exited the Wells Fargo and “made a deposit in the atm on the exterior of the building,” the Delaware State Police report. The Wells Fargo branch (and its yellow-framed ATM machines) are pictured above. Following the ill-advised pit stop, Williams (seen at right) fled on foot to a nearby shopping center where he was taken into custody by state troopers. Question for a portion of the ONT Moron Horde. (I will also post in the Gun Thread tomorrow.)
I have just started shopping for a rifle scope. I have no idea what is "fair value" in the scope market. Are current scope prices double or triple their prior levels (like ammo), or are they fairly reasonable right now considering the overall level of inflation? AFAIK, there is no panic-pricing for optics. That said, quality glass has always been pricey. The rule of thumb has always been to expect to spend roughly as much for the scope and mount as you did for the rifle. Personally, I just can't do that. Washington state Sen. Doug Ericksen dies after battle with COVID
Updated Dec. 18, 2021 at 6:37 pm - Last month, Ericksen wrote to his Republican colleagues asking if they could help him get treatment. He said he was in El Salvador, and had tested positive for the coronavirus. "I took a trip to El Salvador and tested positive for COVID shortly after I arrived, I cannot get back home, and it's to the point that I feel it would be beneficial for me to receive an iv of monoclonal antibodies (Regeneron). I have a doctor here who can administer the iv, but the product is not available here." "Do any of you have any ideas on how I could get the monoclonal antibodies sent to me here?...Ideally, I would like to get it on a flight tonight so it would be here by tomorrow." _ https://is.gd/lwSyaf . - continued Posted by: Braenyard at December 18, 2021 10:13 PM (9rYNN) 86

He arranged a medevac flight from El Salvador that weekend, former state Rep. Luanne Van Werven said. Van Werven said the next week that Ericksen was recovering at a Florida hospital. Van Werven told The Bellingham Herald on Friday she had no new information and it would be best to contact Ericksen's family. https://is.gd/kz Posted by: Braenyard at December 18, 2021 10:13 PM (9rYNN) Posted by: Zeera Hunkering down here, Boss at December 18, 2021 10:13 PM (URSJO) 88

Not necessarily. There's a tendency to over build composite structure replacements for steel. You often put enough material on that it ends up being heavier. The less skill and planning the worse it gets. In aerospace "black aluminum" is often as good as you can hope for.
Posted by: banana Dream at December 18, 2021 10:07 PM (h/pNJ) The bike in the pic up top is not actually plywood. Looks to me like it's made of softwood lumber, joined by bolted-on fish plates and corner braces made of steel. The DeHavilland Mosquito was made of pressure-molded plywood, and it was very strong indeed. You probably could make a motorcycle frame that way, but it would look more like the pressed steel frame of a Honda 50 step-through. there are a couple of monocoque bike designs made out of pressed Al or fiberglass, and one design from Brazil that I think was made out of some sort of plywood. I am not sure the designs would withstand the torque of a full size engine, but for a bike or a piddly chainsaw motor I think it would work just fine

Umm, no - he wasn't - he was arrested and sentenced to that term because he was a prior felon who was reported to own illegal firearms and ammo - the info of his support of the J6th protest was found out later after he was arrested on this previous warrant. Winston, it isn't fancy French brandy aged in a sherry barrel, but you can try Pisco, I think you can get Capel brand fairly easy and they are the biggest seller of it.
It is a white Chilean brandy and one of my faves. I like it neat, and it is very drinkable that way. It just looks like vodka. A lot of brandy has a nearly acetone 'zip' to it that is not great, fruit brandies are worse for that. Capel doesn't have that flavor Posted by: Kindltot at December 18, 2021 10:31 PM (ZMraq) 183

I think political labels confuse rather than enlighten, and in these dumbed down days, used on purpose to confuse. Fascist, communist, socialist, corporatist are all the same, just a matter of a degree or two of difference in means and goals. I think it would be a lot more clear if "Statist" was used, simply meaning that power is wielded by the state, for the purpose of the state. This has been the way of governance for mankind since the dawn of civilization. The one exception to this was created nearly 250 years ago, where the limited power of the state is wielded to protect the rights of the individual citizens of the state.

Flight attendants' real job is evacuation and other safety procedures for the plane, the service stuff is just extra and that's why it varies so much. We recently went over this one, I think. Emirates for the int'l smorgasbord, several east Asian airlines for the feasts from one cuisine (speaking of female flight attendants). The FAA doesn't permit a private airplane Uber-like business, unlike Europe and everywhere else on the planet allows. There are all kinds of businesses that could do an air-uber with their private aircraft if they could get the FAA and the insurance companies to green light it. Party who doesn't like panel ruling in court of appeals can file a motion asking the full court (of active sitting judges) to reconsider the panel ruling. There are criteria for what cases merit en banc review, but really it's entirely within the discretion of the court. Dunno if Soviet sub skipper had any reason to consider the Gustloff anything other than another enemy ship possibly transporting war resources (it was, actually). Possibly best airline story is a positive one. Air Canada L-1011 flight, Edmonton to Toronto, 80s. Guy in our group was a reserve AC pilot, and knew the chief flight attendant aboard. So we all get moved up to first, or business (forget), automatically (plane was 1/3 full). Booze flows. And it gets better.
The flight attendant scoured the economy section and found an attractive young woman to bring up to our section - seating each one next to the few young guys in the group. Very attractive ginger, nurse from Edmonton, is placed next to me. A few letters followed (I think if it had been the email/cheap travel era, history might have changed). And it gets still better. For landing, I went up and sat in the jump seat on the flight deck. Crew said a few days before, Gretzky had sat there. They said he preferred it for landing, when possible. Brezhnev was stripped, posthumously, of his Order of Victory. Awarding it to himself was an early subtle indicator of how rotten the regime had become. Posted by: rhomboid at December 18, 2021 11:23 PM (OTzUX) 338
So I have a party to work tonight, it's a Jehovah's Witness couple, they contact me a week before the reception in desperate need of a bartender, and even though it's a week before Christmas and I'm supposed to be off all week, I'm a sucker for desperate people and I agree to it to help them out. I'm no Catholic, but I figure there must be some patron saint of lost causes and if I agree to help someone in need, maybe that saint will light some candle for me from the other side.
Their ceremony/reception is set to take place at a remote rural venue that I've worked a few times, so I map out enough time to get there 30 minutes early so that everything is relaxed and chill. I stop by the office to pick up some gear for the job and every jack-dick in Knoxville is milling about Christmas shopping. Add to it the torrential rains, and it shaved off 15 minutes off of my early arrival, so the shit logs are starting to bind, there may be some stress involved. So as I'm leaving the office, I figure I oughta check Wayz to see if there might be a better route than the one I would usually take. F*ck yeah, save ten minutes using this back way, and now I'm back on track. So I'm taking this alternate route when whammo, ETA shifts back 15 minutes. Some yayhoo has had a wreck on the alternate route and I'm on some frigging back road, nothing to do but ride it out. Still, ETA puts me at the job site 9 minutes early, so I'm good. Lead footing it, I manage to gain 2 minutes in the ETA and now I'm golden. I go to spark up a cigarette and notice it's my last one. Shit got to stop for more smokes and Oh hell! I notice the gas gauge is now damn near pushing E. Fair enough, 11 spare minutes, I'll swoop in to a gas station, buy some smokes, $10 in gas and get their right on time. Then I notice it. Eureka! When I was buzzed last night coming home from a job, I had the foresight to purchase an extra pack of smokes! Winning! Posted by: Bitter Clinger at December 18, 2021 11:25 PM (zEofJ) 340

Oh hell...that's an IRA pub. And I got into a tussle with the bouncer one night.
They all were. And fwiw I would not visit when they were charging a cover to support bombing the children of N Ireland. I'm not deluded that somehow I was avoiding the money laundering that way. Just the most blatant. I had the most humorous bar fight experience there. I was younger. Weighed less but it was distributed differently. No one was harmed. Laughs exchanged afterward. Zettai, as I implied, alas, nothing came of it. A few letters went back and forth. But I was in DC, travel wasn't yet super-cheap (that came a few years later), and I was already pretty busy with stuff much of which took me other directions a lot of the time.

So now I'm like "F*ck it, I can risk it in gas and arrive 10 minutes early and have a little extra set up time." I mean I don't want the couple stressing, so screw it, based on my calculations on the distance you can travel with the needle under 'E', it'll be close, but I should be alright. Party was good, I had no idea Jehovah's Witnesses liked to party. A lot of hotties, too. I was like "Shit, send some of those chicks door to door and I'd probably sign up." But I still had some minor stress over the gas sitch, so I enlisted the knowledge of one of the local Cletuses on getting to a gas pump at the conclusion of the party. He informed me that the closest gas station was an alternate route, and assured me the gas stations were open late. Fatal flaw, I listened to a man that was drinking Fireball directly from a 750 ml bottle. That flaw was only exacerbated when I began taking swigs with him. Sure enough, gas stations are closed, so now I'm in the boonies, truck gas needle well below E. So I have to make it 18 more miles, hypermiling it to the next exit. Thankfully, I made it. But it made me wonder. What if we lived in a Mad Max scenario, no readily available gas. And then that made me think, and why the f*ck do liberals want to make it that way? Clyde, it's actually much worse than that. Much.
The SAGE models, like the laughable nonsense *still* being barfed up by the idiots at the Univ of Washington outfit, are of course garbage, and have proven to have no connection to reality. But the real kicker is the need for "restrictions". WTF? The world awaits a single actual analysis showing that "restrictions" - any of them - have any material impact on outcomes. He could end his speech saying that his mandates will only end if someone beats him in the feats of strength.

If you wish to foolishly think that any election that puts a D in office is valid, that's on you. In IL, for example, we've led the nation in people fleeing the state. Yet somehow there were 400,000 more Chicago voters that appeared out of the blue for Pritzker than were present for the previous governor's race. And if deadly Omicron is as infectious as it is supposed to be, the "restrictions" are even less effective. After about the fourth or fifth request she said "What's the matter with you" and stormed off. She came back with a huge bag of peanuts and threw them in my lap. Fun times.

Since then, I've never put on a mask there, though almost all other customers do, as does the entire staff. Keep in mind that we're talking about Los Angeles here. When have we ever had to protect people who've been vaccinated from people who haven't? The way it's supposed to work, the vaccine protects you, and people who aren't vaccinated are taking their chances with their own health. I'm especially annoyed because I now work from home full-time, but they still expect me to get vaccinated. So, apparently, by being unvaccinated, I'm somehow a threat to people who have been vaccinated and won't even come into contact with me, anyway. I applied for a religious exemption. I was just reading one of the latest posts by Denninger. It's about Central Freight Lines (CFL), a Waco-based trucking outfit. They just announced they are shutting down. This will not be a Ch. 11. They are shutting down, Ch 7. Can pay their debt, can't pay their bills going forward, thus no longer a "going concern". They made a deal with the devil -- Bezos and Amazon, to start carrying their shit, borrowing a bunch of money top upsize and all that sort of thing. Amazon then ratfucked them. A jury found Amazon guilty of ratfucking CFL, but a federal appeals court threw out the verdict. Anyway, Denninger's point about that is leverage. In the current zero interest regime, the end of long-term secular period of low interest rates, there is too much leverage. If interest rates tick up, then these over-levered outfits are fucked. Their business models do not support the cash flow for the debt service in "normalized interest" conditions. And Houston, that's a problem. So what? They can pretend to care, but they could care less. It's nothing but a test of their control and if they get more then 50% - which they have achieved - they know they've won. 5, 10, or even 20% refusing? Nothing. On a bit of a tangent, I was reading about Covaxin.
Like Sinovac it uses a dead version of the covid viron instead of either the frankenvirus of JJ or the gene therapies of Pfizer. My research on Sinovac says it does nothing in regards to stopping you from getting COVID. Presumably Covaxin won't either - actual vaccines likely can never stop coronaviruses. Covaxin is Indian - so likely safer then anything coming out of China...but I can't find any real info on it - anyone else have any? Posted by: 18-1 at December 19, 2021 12:57 AM (ESjRY) 588

My parents have gotten the jabs and boosters, and will continue to get the boosters, out of fear.
They know where I stand, and bless their hearts, they respect that, though they have little desire to have me or other non-jabbed family visit them. I don't like it, but there is nothing I can do except that they have a change of heart. Talking on the phone with them about inconsequentials is very bittersweet, knowing that I will likely never see them again. Tom I think that is already happening in great numbers, via intentional drug overdose, etc. We are fortunate that we live in the farthest boonies where few tend to wander and our employment isn't threatened, and our friends don't ask and don't tell as far as vaccinations. but, even today, in Fargo, Fargo freezing North Dakota, 3 women walked into Hobby Lobby, filled their carts, walked out, threatened the 2 security guards that followed with tasers, the getaway drive punched one guard in the face, loaded and left. It's funny they got thousands of dollars worth of what? Not so funny that it was probably a trial run. In Fargo, ND. And the reason is that I think so much will have changed, not just here but worldwide, that we can't even come close to predicting what that world will look like. So how can one make predictions for an unknowable world? A whole flock of black swans are about to take flight.
One current real world example, that no one much in this country is paying attention to (kind of surprising) - Turkey. 6 months ago Turkey still had a decently functioning economy, with some troubles like all countries have. Dictator Erdogan thought it would be better if he pushed interest rates lower and ordered everyone wages raised. (Dictators do that kind of thing) Result - Turkey's currency collapsed internationally, inflation has gone hyper, and over the last week Turkey has gone into total economic freefall - rather like October 1929 was here. No way out for them, and Erdogan may have to flee the country soon. that kind of thing is going to start happening all over. Maybe even here. Musically, a feller named Beethoven, IMHO, captured the transition from chaos and despair into victory and hope very well. You've gone through the crucible, and now you emerge, victorious. You arise, a victor from the dark domain. That is in Mr. Beethoven's 5th, the transition from 3rd to the 4th movement. That is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAQFJ1YpFaI The transition begins at about 5:00. Now, little tiny computer speakers can't do this justice. You need some good audio with some wide-ass dynamic range to get the full effect. Go from whisper quiet to wide-ass open with little distortion. At about 5:40, you'll hear the start of something that I call the "victor's march". That evokes mental imagery of victorious heroes slowly marching in triumph. They've been through hell, but now they've emerged. To a new Heaven and a new Earth. Clempson Cow Collidge taught me some music appreciation. If they deny my request for a religious exemption and I lose my job on January 4th... my condo is cheaper than any place I could rent. I'm liking my chances of getting a new job where I make enough to keep my place. And if I can't get a new job, quickly, where I make enough to cover my mortgage... worst case scenario, the real estate market around here is so crazy, I could sell my place and walk away with a hundred grand in my pocket. I'd prefer to avoid doing that, but it wouldn't be so terrible. There are worse situations than having nothing but a hundred thousand dollars to your name. The Connells song "74-75" is still good, if you like that sort of thing, but a bit dated.
