The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“We have made every effort to reach a fair agreement, including making six offers to the union throughout negotiations, all which have included wage and benefits increases for every employee. It appears the union created unrealistic expectations for our employees,” Chris Hood, president of Kellogg North America

Quote II

I’m older and deeply grateful for still being here. And inevitably, now there is concern about what’s next after West Side Story. And anyone who tells you otherwise is a damn liar.”Rita Moreno

Quote III

“And if you’re a businessman out there or you work or you’re a laborer, a union person working for a business — where is the business going to go? Where they can get the products to market fastest, safest, where they have access to get in and out, where they have access to move. That’s why we’re losing. That’s why we’re losing. And we’re not going to lose anymore,. I promise you. The time of losing is over. It’s over, over, over, over,” Resident of The White House Joe Biden

Oh Joe, you ignorant slut. Businesses also look at tax and environmental laws just to mention a couple of things they look at before if I75 is down the street. Fucking dumb shit.

The Email of The Week

MisHum,

I just wanted to send a note to let everyone know that despite how bad everything looked and could have been with the Amazon warehouse collapse, the community overall was relatively unscathed. I have been receiving emails, texts, and calls from around the country asking if we are ok. It warehouse seemed to be a localized hit and considering that it is likely that over 50 people were inside, it could have been much, much worse.

That being said, I’d like to thank our police, fire, and emt’s for their bravery with this catastrophe. The area’s fire departments may each have a small full-time staff, but the vast majority are well trained volunteers and they left the safety of their homes to help save those trapped inside. In addition, they stayed on-site despite a second wave of thunderstorms and tornadoes sweeping through the area and focused on getting those people out despite quickly worsening conditions.

As always, prayers for those who lost their lives as well as for those injured and their families.

Thanks,

Real name withheld (also known as ERF) Edwardsville, IL

Our prayers up for everyone touched by the storms this past weekend.

A sad commentary on life. MEMORIAL BLOODBATH - Baytown mass shooting in Texas sees one killed and seven others gunned down at a celebration of life candlelit vigil

Sgt. Greg Campbell said: "While they were having their celebration of life and releasing balloons in the air, an unknown suspect drove down this road and shot rounds into that group of people."

Campbell said the victims took themselves to Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital.

When the victims arrived at the hospital, Campbell said "a large fight ensued" — prompting other agencies to be called for help.

Witness Sidney William told ABC13 he hear approximately 20 to 30 gunshots, which let to people "screaming and running to their cars."

Hey Toni, just shut the fvck up.

Dr. Anthony Fauci can't say whether people will need annual COVID-19 COVID-19 boosters, a question being posed by many as new variants of the coronavirus, like Omicron, arise.

"It's tough to tell," Fauci, the nation's leading infectious disease expert, said during an interview Sunday on ABC News "This Week" with George Stephanopoulos.

Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said that besides an increased level of protection against the coronavirus, a booster could increase the durability of the immune system's protection, which won't be measurable for a "period of months."

Maybe Dr. Science should be looking at other treatments instead of being in green rooms every weekend.

Hospitalizations, Mortality Cut In Half After Brazilian City Offered Ivermectin To Everyone Pre-Vaccine

Early on in the pandemic, before the vaccines were available, the Southern Brazilian city of Itajai offered Ivermectin as a prophylaxis against the disease.

133,051 people took them up on it, while 87,466 did not.

After analyzing the data, a team of researchers spanning several Brazilian institutes, the University of Toronto, and Columbia's EAFIT concluded in a December pre-print study that hospitalization and mortality rates were cut in half over the seven month period among the Ivermectin group.

How is that prick working out for you?

The NBA’s Chicago Bulls are missing nine players from their roster due to COVID-19 protocol, according to a report on Sunday, including stars Zach LeVine and Troy Brown, leaving only half of the team’s current roster available for Tuesday’s game with the Detroit Pistons.

“Under league rules, the Bulls need to have eight eligible players vs. the Pistons on Tuesday. There have been no Covid-related postponements in the NBA this season, but the Bulls outbreak — with LaVine and Troy Brown the latest — continues and postponements could be an option,” ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted Sunday.

Well, if you're going to playing games with The Man. Expect some retaliation. That doesn't make it right. Just facts.

A man filmed a Massachusetts state trooper taking a nap in his car. Then he was retaliated against, he says.

While we are on the subject of police. When there is a threat of gunfire and the cops show up, do you worry if they have been pricked for the Kung Flu?

LOS ANGELES — Reports have surfaced out of Los Angeles that on Thursday, December 9, officers responded to a threat of a shooting at Watts Middle School. When LAPD officers arrived to investigate, they were asked by school officials to show proof of vaccination. When officers did not comply with that request, they were instructed by school Director Sims that they would not be allowed on campus per school policy. According to sources from El American, the police then left the school campus.

One more non-profit charitable organization I won't donate to. The Make A Wish Foundation is rejecting wishes of children who weren't pricked.

They have not lifted the vaccine mandate for Wishes that involve air travel or large gatherings. If the child’s Wish is to go to Disneyland, for example, then it would be denied if the child is unvaccinated.

Read the last paragraph of the Foundation’s statement: “Our decision to lift restrictions on wishes involving air travel and large gatherings for children and families ‘who are vaccinated’ is the first step of our phased reemergence plan and is based on advice from pediatricians and other medical professionals on our National Medical Advisory Council, as well as guidance from public health organizations like the CDC and American Academy of Pediatrics. We look forward to the day when we can lift all pandemic-related restrictions.”

Hey Gov. DeSantis of Florida. I triple dawg dare you!!

A good friend and frequent email correspondent has been saying for years that we need to send all the illegal immigrants to places where there is plenty of room for them: thinly populated areas like Marin County, the Hamptons, Martha’s Vineyard, Nancy Pelosi’s mansion. That would get the wall built even faster than Hispanics voting Republican.

It seems that my friend may have been emailing Ron DeSantis: DeSantis Proposes $8 Million in Budget to Relocate Illegal Immigrants to Delaware, Martha’s Vineyard.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis set $8 million in his 2022–23 budget to transport illegal immigrants out of The Sunshine State.

He proposed the spending in the Freedom First Budget to protect against harms resulting from illegal immigration. The spending may include the transportation of unauthorized aliens located within Florida to other states or the District of Columbia

Republican governors talk tough and decisive. After beating back his recall challenge CA Gov. Newsome is attempting to rid the State of CA of all guns. Dems aren't afraid to use their bully pulpit and the courts.

Gavin Newsom Says He’ll Use Texas Abortion Law as a Blueprint to Further Limit Gun Rights in California

On Friday, the Supreme Court let a Texas law stand which allows individuals to sue abortion providers who perform the procedures after 15 weeks. The Court hasn’t upheld the law. Instead, they let it remain in effect while lower courts consider its constitutionality.

Newsom, in a fit of hoplophobic pique, has decided to use the same tool to go after manufacturers, distributors, and sellers of “assault weapons” or “ghost gun” kits in the formerly Golden State. In other words, he’ll work with the legislature to draft, pass, and sign a law that will allow any Californian to sue those who make and sell the kinds of guns Newsom doesn’t like, unleashing a torrent of nuisance suits intended to put such companies and individuals out of business.

It's the modern day version of cargo cults - apparently bad weather never existed prior to global warming.

It is simply taken as a given that any bad weather event now is caused by global warming.

For example, we've had accurate hurricane records since the 1850's for the continental United States, and there has been no increase in either the frequency or severity of hurricanes over this period.

No matter - when a hurricane makes landfall, it's obviously global warming's fault.

Most of that speculation is simply silliness. The main issue is where warm moist air hits very cold air creating atmospheric instability.

At times of the year, that is tornado alley, at other times, southeast or eastern midwest. You can actually pull up historical plotting of tornadoes over time and storm outbreaks.

What protects some areas is mountains and hills that cause the tornado to skip or dissipate by disrupting airflow of the system--in flatlands, nothing to stop them going for miles.

So the story says Biden and the Dems want to prohibit companies from firing strikers. Why? If at some point strikers absolutely refuse to deal and cause a company to go under they've effectively fired themselves. What would the government do in that case? Prosecute the owners anyway?

So Kelloggs tried and tried and tried and the strikers gave them the finger. Now they're getting replaced. The strikers fucked themselves. Good job. Fucking yourself doesn't strike me as something that should be a crime.

85 Reports have surfaced out of Los Angeles that on Thursday, December 9, officers responded to a threat of a shooting at Watts Middle School. When LAPD officers arrived to investigate, they were asked by school officials to show proof of vaccination. When officers did not comply with that request, they were instructed by school Director Sims that they would not be allowed on campus per school policy.

He apparently rewrote the songs to remove disparaging references to Puerto Rico (hey, just because a quarter of Puerto Rico's population moved to New York City doesn't mean that there might have been some downsides to living in Puerto Rico), and most importantly, had Puerto Rican actors in the Puerto Rican roles, as opposed to having white actors in the roles (except for Rita Moreno).

The whole point of being an actor is to portray someone who you aren't - but pretending to be a minority is no longer allowed. (I wonder how the Puerto Rican actors would respond if they were told that they could only play Puerto Rican roles.)

Chris Wallace didn't suddenly decide to leave being a Fox News host and headliner to join CNN's streaming "web" influencers - that's like asking the Navy to get you stationed in Keflavik, Iceland after being promised a stint in Hawaii - ain't happening.

No, there is a purge going on - one that I think is self-induced. Chrissy and Goldberg and others to come all told the Fox execs to choose between them or Tucker/Ingraham/Hannity - and they found out that Fox actually chooses to make money over their doofus lefty woke-ism.

148 127 Kudos to the Weather Channel reporter on the ground in Mayfield KY this afternoon that had his camera man zoom in to all the makeshift flagpoles people have put up above the rubble to fly the red white and blue. He said this shows what a great country we live in. I was stunned.

Posted by: Jen

Weather Channel screwed the pooch on that tornado outbreak. They were broadcasting some silly documentaries that night with only the chryon streaming about warning. Youtube livestreaming by Ryan Hall Y'all did a much better job with that one guy broadcasting for hours in real time when the tornadoes were going to strike. Weather Nation also did a commendable job as did local weather stations.

Re the Weather Channel, like almost every other cable channel, they get away from their core competencies to try to fire their current audience and get a new one. There is little history to be found on the history channel is another example.

161 In my personal experience going through two National Disaster Declarations, FEMA does not help right after the problem.

Salvation Army does or did.

FEMA will normally pay the local authority to build it back as it was before the problem, less 15% right off the top.

But I read their manual, and I got some money from another pot to improve a recurring problem (non-wetland involved) and I got administrative costs.

Getting those two (improvements and admin costs) after a disaster is usually only for large public entities with a big staff. It took 20 months start to finish with the money delivered.

In the original, the Grinch was just a Christmas-hating, looting dickhead. In spite of being a dickhead and trying to f*ck up their celebration, the people still celebrated with family and the true spirit of Christmas. The Grinch then realized he was a dickhead and stopped being a dickhead.

In the live action, the Grinch was discriminated against as a child because he was a green freak at the hands of cruel Who normies. So he plotted revenge. Then he looted, but was a sympathetic character. Then he gets to bang a hot Who chick after the Whos recognize they were all the dicks and so his anger is assuaged.

I grew up with tornadoes in the pre internet era with rather crappy warning systems and yes, safety first after making sure of others.

Night-time rain wrapped tornadoes cannot be seen except by what is not there during lightning flashes. One of the ones around a couple of nights ago here turned straight east for a bit before resuming moving at 45-60 mph to the NE. They will do that when strengthening.

An environmentalist "transportation activist" in Portland recently bewailed the fact that he bought snowshoes a few years ago, since it was obvious that soon he will not be able to use him, due to gerbil warbling.

There has been no decline in snowfalls on Mount Hood.

Apparently the voices in his head are telling him that the snow will be gone soon.

343 ah, cue mother nature. she blasted rainier with snow so much that it is quite gleaming white

The ski season on Mount Hood was about ten days late this year, thus proving that Mount Hood would soon be snow-free year-round.

Some scientists at Oregon State University tried a more sophisticated approach - they admitted that there had been no decline in snowpack in the Cascades, but claimed that the global warming snowpack losses had been masked by a long-term snow cycle, which is currently at the high point. When the long-term snow cycle turns down, then the snowpack will decline quite rapidly.

I don't believe it, but at least they admitted that there had been no decline in snowpack thus far.

379 nurse, as a few responses noted, if it's the "original" finish it came with (from the 60s or 70s re-arsenal process in the USSR) it's just a thin shellac. Which usually flakes off in spots, over time/with use.

Denatured alcohol on a rag removes it easily, and underneath you'll probably find a nice plain light brown arctic birch (there was no stain, the dark red/amber color of the Soviet shellac is the color in the equation). I've re-shellacked a few of mine, as I paid little for them, I like a nice (and protective) finish, and none of them are the unicorns (rare types) where alteration hurts resale value.

If you're just cleaning it up, I'd stick to rags with hot water, then hot water and dish soap if there's any serious gunk. If it still has cosmoline (petroleum gel preservative) on it - metal and/or stock - then you (or your son) really needs to do a full disassembly and a simple but thorough process that I won't go into here.

408 "Leonard Bernstein once complained he didn't want to be remembered as the composer for WSS. Someone told him that was a better fate than being remembered for his other music."

Bernstein's "serious" music is almost never played these days. And the musicals are seldom staged professionally, because their large casts and union scale make them prohibitively expensive. But he certainly could write songs - and not just WSS. "On the Town" is also a terrific musical, and the film version, with Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra, is really good. And who can't enjoy Ann Miller singing and dancing the song "Prehistoric Man"?

Perhaps the most embarrassing version of WSS was the recording that Bernstein made shortly before he died. He had his kids recite the spoken dialogue for Tony and Maria, which is creepy all by itself; but he also had big-time opera stars singing the songs. In particular, he had Placido Domingo, a Spaniard who has a heavy Hispanic accent, sing the role of Tony. It's definitely cringe-making.

409 I believe in the 1/1,000,000th of an eye-blink that recorded history represents for earth history, "extreme weather" has declined. Declined. Of course even that should be regarded dubiously, as the "data" for much of the planet for some of the period is bupkis, or limited/crude/unreliable.

I think "they" (National Park Service, spit) removed the idiotic gerbil wormening signs at Glacier NP, which had offered up the same ridiculous unscientific speculation about glaciers disappearing. I think the reason was that the specific glacier in question was ..... growing again.

I found the post-scientific, unscientific, nearly medieval, religious-cult-in-the-worst-sense society pre-C19 barely tolerable, due to this climate nonsense (and totalitarian social engineering rampage, with attendant massive costs).

Now it's become even worse, much worse. And unlike with the climate idiocy, *this* particular bit of nonsense has people ID'ing themselves as clueless compliant drones in a visible, everyday manner (masks, etc).

A relief train was dispatched from Miami. The barometer was down to about 26 inches when that train pulled into Homestead. Engineer backed his string of empty coaches into the danger zone... and the hurricane hit. Knocked those coaches right off the track. Two hundred miles an hour, that wind blew. A tidal wave twelve feet high went right across the Key. Whole towns were wiped out. Miles and miles of track were ripped up... and washed away. Nothing was left. More than five hundred bodies were recovered after the storm. And for months afterwards... corpses were found in the mangrove swamps.

481 So. I've got a good friend busy fleeing IL with his family, so we don't stay in constant touch. This happened to the family on Thanksgiving Day.

The son has a good friend, lifelong, that came for a T-Day visit in their new state. 36 years old. His friend felt bad that day, and had himself driven to the hospital, but after waiting nearly an hour and no closer to being seen and feeling a bit better, decided to go back to the son's house.

After a short while, he decided he needed to go back to the hospital, and was having trouble tying his shoes, when he keeled over in the kitchen and died. CPR was no help.

My first question -- Was he recently vaccinated? Yes. Vaccine Monday, dead Thursday. Go figure.

I'm NEVER getting the shot(sssss).

Sam Neil is the inventor of the "gravity drive", which will produce a type of wormhole basically, and get them to Proxima Centauri. Very hush-hush mission. They engage the drive, and no one hears from them again. Then the ship suddenly appears in orbit around Neptune.

I'd suggest a Kel-Tec option (small and light) with pocket holster, and Velcro on outside of holster/inside of pocket, to keep it in place. An NAA .22 revolver might seem "too small", but it'll still kill with one very well placed round. I like those worn on a neck chain, much like military dogtags. Then I found it. They actually did experiments with dogs in vacuum chambers to see what happened. The dogs could live after up to 90 sec of exposure. After that, they were dead.

There was a space suit test that went awry. NASA had built a huge vacuum chamber to test pressure suits and space suits in hard vacuum.

One guy was in there, and his air hose popped off, depressurizing quickly. He lost consciousness in less than 15 seconds, saying the last thing he remembered was this curious sensation of fizzing on his tongue. That was the saliva boiling off.

It took them 25 seconds to get him repressurized and out of there. They immediately gave him pure O2. He was okay other than a sore ear. Bad "popped ear".

There is video of the incident.

At about a 40% penalty for weight and size, and price. For a .22 contact-distance gun, I'll go with the smaller/lighter/cheaper compromise, here. No quarrel with the .22 WRM, but it's more suited to a Ruger LCR so chambered, which is a whole size larger and heavier than the NAA hideout special.

540 @520 I bowed out around part way through the fifth(?) season. Just seemed to be getting lost up it's own ass.

----

That's the only season of The Expanse that I've seen. It was the only one available on Prime for a while, so I watched it. It was interesting early on. But the further into the season I got, the more disappointed I became with it.

I did start watching season one later on when the rest of the series had been brought over to Prime. But I only got about half-way through it. I suppose I ought to go back and watch the rest of it, since the early seasons are supposed to be better. But I haven't done so.

You lose consciousness so quickly in vacuum because the O2 in your blood quickly pours out through your lungs. The gas exchange runs backwards and quickly.

A similar effect can happen if you inhale a lung full of an inert gas, or anything without O2 in it. The partial pressure of O2 in your lungs is now nil. O2 pours out.

But the effect is much worse and faster in vacuum. People doing "helium voice" have knocked themselves out by getting their lungs full of helium.

542 @496 Looking up "Event Horizon", it flopped at the box office, but did pretty good in video sales afterward.

Event Horizon has been described as the perfect example of The Warp from Warhammer 40,000.

Helium is now the 'easiest' way to commit suicide according to multiple online sites. Why? It displaces Oxygen but does not, like CO2, force your body to think it is being 'drowning'... thus, you just, go to sleep.

I've researched this... because of my daughter.

And we will leave it at that.

Coincidence about Shangri-La. The other day, watching an episode of Carol Burnett on MeTV, Tim Conway as the "oldest man" was the high lama of Shangri-La and Harvey Korman was the explorer trying to find it.

Hilarity ensued of course.

Yup. FDR told the press that Doolittle and his men had launched their strike from Shangri-La, and he got the name from a movie.

550 >> *rethinks all the "Whip-its" we did in Kollidge*

You just don't want to get all the O2 out of your lungs. As long as you keep enough air mixed in, no problem.

The helium incidents usually happen when someone is taking multiple hits and gets their lungs slap full of helium, displacing all the air.

You won't know anything is wrong, and Boom! you keel over. I saw a video of someone who did that, and just keeled over from a standing position.

551 Whip-Its are nitrous oxide, N2O. There is no helium in them.

552 >> Whip-Its are nitrous oxide, N2O. There is no helium in them.

I know. The problem is any gas that doesn't have oxygen mixed in. You get your lungs filled with that, oxygen comes out of your blood stream, quickly lowering you blood O2.

Doesn't matter if it's helium, argon, or anything else.

Amazon and other online places sell millions and millions of stolen retail goods.

Bezos is a fucking fence. And he fences his own stolen goods.

Just reading. Major bust of a couple of fake pawn shops which were fronts for moving stolen good on Amazon. They would buy goods stolen from major retailers, then resell on Amazon.

And they even stole from Amazon deliveries (mostly returns) and sold them back on Amazon. A couple of Amazon drivers were in on the ring with the pawn shops.
