27 Not too long ago I watched an eagle come zooming down out of the sky and try to snatch a cottontail rabbit right on the street in front of my place.

The bunny made it under a van parked by the side of the road with a split-second to spare. Then, the eagle perched its giant self on top of the van, trying to wait out the rabbit. It was a life-or-death game of chicken playing out as I was trying to drink my coffee on the balcony.

The rabbit won. The eagle eventually got tired of waiting and flew off. Don't usually see that on a city street like that.

Our dog (catahoula) did the same with a duck carcass on New Years eve no less. My wife called her horse vet just in case of problems. The key is that it is less harmful if it has been cooked prior. Make sure that the doggy gets plenty of hydration.

They're just bound and determined to get your attention and then entertain you by racing around in circles. So funny how they'll stop racing around and look at you with that panting dog-like smile, then go back to bounding about. Like "Are you getting all this? Are you not entertained?"

I'll usually toss them a bit of jerky or something if I have anything a fox will eat. Like dropping a dollar in a street busker's guitar case.

Hang dai, thathalfrican. We've tightened our belts, too. Ours are old enough to sort of understand, and I am making it a point to show them the prices of things when we go to the grocery store (for example, a 2 liter Dr. Pepper is $2.50 now, and it was $1.40 when Biden took office) so they'll really comprehend what's happening and why we've got pretzels instead of Doritos now.

The infuriating part is that it's all on purpose. This is being done to us on purpose so that the billionaires can "build back better"

My house is right on the edge of some conservation land and I have a deck off my family room that overlooks it. First night I moved in my buddy came over to christen the place.

We were standing on the deck having a beer and a fox popped out of the woods and trotted across the lawn like he owned the place right in front of us, looked up as he passed, and just kept trotting along without missing a beat.

I've watched quite a few of her (Save-a-Fox) videos. They're cute and playful and all, but the thing is, foxes will just piss and shit anywhere and everywhere, any time and all the time. So, like, she'll bring a basket of eggs out to distribute and immediately some of them try to pee in the basket. And she even lets some of them in the house, where they just leave their business all over the floor.

Casa New Dawn here is equipped with the RCA equivalent of the Ring/Simply Safe type video doorbell, but is to me, superior.

It does not require any kind of subscription or other monthly fee(s). You can stuff a high-capacity video card into the thing, and record feature length movies on it. Everything is fully retrievable via the cel-phone app, again, with no monthly fee or charge. And, it's 1028 HD resolution is every bit as good as the best of the others. For me, the advantage of the thing NOT reporting to The Borg was the deciding factor, the no monthly fee, the other.

I went with the Anker made Eufy system, absolutely love it. No subscription as well! Which is what I hate about the others. I need to pay to store and retrieve my own stuff from the cloud? Yeah, no.

Exterior camera quality is excellent, great night vision as well. Each (tiny) base can run 4 cameras. Great software GUI. Each camera can have "zones" you draw that are activated, so if there's someplace that gets traffic you want to ignore, you can do that. Night vision and notifications, I love hearing the "Ding Dong" before they can press the door bell.

Highly recommend anybody looking checks out one of the brands offered that don't require a subscription. Yes, if you're an Alexa/Apple/Google home person, the things work with that system as well - but I'm all about avoiding it.

Just keep an eye on them when they go on sale - no doubt they'll be boosted for Christmas. The Eufy Cam2 with 2 cams and a base was $245, sometimes cam and doorbell kits go on sale.

Daniel Pinkwater had a story about how when his dogs got old and sick, and the vet said it was not getting better, he would put a couple of pieces of chicken in the crock pot each morning and cook it all day and feed the ailing dog chicken at night. They lived surprisingly long, apparently not willing to die as long as they could hold out for some of that chicken they could smell cooking every day, just for them.

And she would tan them to preserve the face part.

300 The online video game Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV) released a new expansion today. This is good. However...

Typically, right before a new expansion for an online game is released, the number of players on line at any given time goes down. This is normal as players get bored with the existing content, and decide to do something else until the new content arrives. Then when the expansion arrives, the number of players online shoots back up.

Except that over the last few months, the number of online players in FF XIV has been *increasing*, instead of decreasing. This appears to be due to players who are refugees from World of Warcraft, which is in the process of crashing and burning right now, causing a lot of players to jump ship for FFXIV. And now that the new expansion is out, all of the veteran FFXIV players who had put the game on hold for the last few months have come back.

As a result, the servers are getting hammered by more simultaneous logins than ever before.

I'm currently number 4.228 in the queue for my server. I'll have to go find something semi-productive to do while I wait. And I'll be waiting a good, long while.

Everyone in the class just knew he had just broken his wrist, but to our surprise he wasn't hurt at all. That was when I learned about these types of traps that don't injury the animal. I am not suggesting there is anything wrong with hunting, hunting and trapping are very different. indeed I was just discussing earlier this evening that we have to hunt deer because we offed the predators. however, there is a difference between whacking a deer and having something trapped in the snow by a foot for days or hours.

if somebody wants to do that fine, but I would suggest it is better not to.

This item is nonsense! If you ever took a Civics class in your life you know that the President doesn't control the price of oil and gas. That prices is caused by the Law of Supply and Demand. Next, the major place that can cause the price of oil to increase per barrel is the OPEC countries. This is due to (once again for those in the back)...THE LAW OF SUPPLY AND DEMAND!!! The price was low last year because of people not having a demand for gas and oil due to the pandemic! But once again...the President doesn't make this price

Best: not Feliz Navidad
Worst: Feliz Navidad

When I was a kid I worked at a Giant Eagle grocery store. They started the endless loop Christmas music on Black Friday, and ran it nonstop until about January 10th (lots of Orthodox folks in the area). This particular store had a tape loop of only 8 songs, and Feliz Navidad was on it twice. I heard that song 3-4 times per hour, 40 hours a week for seven weeks. To this day, my Christmas wish is to receive an airline ticket to wherever Jose Feliciano lives, so that I could knock on his door, say "Feliz Navidad!" and then kick him in the ballsack.

I read a pretty funny short story in some compilation where the US had disintegrated due to some war and different states hired out their protection to private companies. This is from memory so do not hold me to it.

Anyway, the state of New New Mexico invaded a city state centered on Manhattan Kansas I think (somewhere around there) and they came upon a farmer that was an extreme version of the survivalists in Tremors. The guy lit off a nuke and scared the invading army all the way back to where they came. The invasion commander told them there was no way that they could succeed when even individual nuts had their own tactical weapons.

a good suit, tie and shirt, maybe a vest and dressy shoes are very expensive, and I think the loss of them started with the creeping inflation that started sprinting about LBJ. A suit, tie and shoes worth wearing are around $500 and up now, and have to be dry cleaned.

Buckley could sneer at men wearing dungarees, but he never advised how to afford a suit.
