Quick Hit/Open Thread

Yes just a single quick hit.

It needs the spotlight.

So, there's a show on Netflix. It's called You. It's called that because it's about a stalker who is obsessed with a woman. Because he's obsessed with this woman -- who he addresses as "You" in his stalker diary and in the show's narration -- that's the name of the show.

Laura Ingraham has never heard of the show.

Prepare for something you thought had to be scripted to happen.

So let me add this: I watched the next Star Trek after Mirror Mirror, called "The Apple."

It was a lame episode featuring a type of Space Hippies. Orange pixie-ish Alien Hawaiian Space Hippies.

Good Lord, do they show up a lot on the original series a lot.

But it featured a killer comedy line from Spock.

These Space Hippies are greeting the landing party. The Space Hippies are wrapping floral garlands around the forearms of Kirk and Spock.

Kirk, teasingly, says to Spock: "It does something for you."

Spock says: "Indeed it does. (beat) It makes me uncomfortable."

Not a great episode. Not even a mediocre one. But I see why people like Spock, and the Kirk-Spock dynamic.

Under Siege!

Whole Nine Yards!

I am not sure I would include Fast Times at Ridgemont High. The theme I am going for is completely gratuitous nudity (that was damn fine and impressive.) I would argue that, given the nature of the 'plot' in FTARH, the nudity is in keeping. By the same token, it is awesome.

Some of the Season Threes are dull, some are really bad. But looking at them now, 50 years on, I realize that there were good elements of drama in the best ones. Not so much action-adventure, not often really imaginative stuff like the best SF printed or filmed, but a good attempt at drama.

"Spectre of the Gun" and "Enterprise Incident" are good adventures; and the one with Kirk having amnesia on the planet with the Amerind-like people, and falling in love with the chief's daughter, only to lose her at the end . . . it's more effective, and affecting, than a simple plot summary would indicate.

True story incoming.

When I was in college, the studio was doing a test screening of the new Alfie. I went to see it with a few friends. Hey, free movie.

There was much (very quiet) snarking throughout. Then in the last scene, the titular character gives a lengthy - like several minutes long - monologue about how he was wrong and now's changed his nasty caddish ways. It was so absurd and so unreal that we couldn't help it. Two other guys and me just burst out laughing. Then most of the rest of the men joined in, and every female eye in the place tried to kill us with their death ray glares.

Merrick Garland must resign.

This is the smoking gun. Attorney General Garland provided zero evidence that parents are engaging in credible threats or acts of violence. And yet, he mobilized the FBI Counterterrorism Division to use counterterrorism tools for investigating, tracking, and tagging parents.

I still haven't seen new Alfie, but a long monologue about how Alfie was wrong about what he did just doesn't seem to fit the character. The point of the first movie is that he ends up exactly where he starts the film, that his life of debauchery was a closed loop of tragedy and that he couldn't see any way out of it because that's just who he was.

276 193 > What's the wackiest conspiracy theory you believe?

My own, personal, conspiracy theory is that Kenneth L. Lay (founder & CEO of Enron) faked his own death. This otherwise healthy man he conveniently died suddenly between conviction & sentencing while on vacation. Because he died during an appeal his conviction was overturned. I'm assuming this fake death benefited his family somehow.

277 My favorite Fake News of the many revolving around the Kennedy assassination, is the "ZOMG lookit this picture of the Dallas PD handing the *real* murder weapon down from the *rooftop* of the TSBD."

Except, yeah, that's a *shotgun.* Which no one, ever, has tried to claim was the murder weapon. Also, it's the exact make and model of shotgun issued to, you guessed it, the Dallas PD.

Anyone who ever watched an episode of S.W.A.T. can see that they are following the safety protocol for handing down their own weapons, in the pic. But countless conspiracy books trumpet that picture, and idiots believe it.

285 The problem with the JFK shooting is that it is impossible to tell a real conspiracy from a cover up of an organic event for political reasons.

Same with 9/11 - the cover up of incompetence, grifting, collusion with the perpetrators out of greed and not know what they were planning, etc. all make it look like a conspiracy. But hard to tell

With JFK, they had to hide the incompetence, leftist motives, etc. even if LHO had zero USA support in the act.

I thought of that . . . but why didn't McCoy revert to Neanderthal, or Kirk to a superstitious witch-believer in his 17th-century-style world? Actually, you'd think the "preparation" would ensure they were adapted properly for the time they were going to.

"The Dan O'Donnell Show" is not naming Jump Kick Man, as he has not been criminally charged in connection with the Rittenhouse case. Prosecutors declined his offer and chose not to call him as a witness in the Rittenhouse case.

481 I am amazed by Ohikhobo's remedy. I Have had herpes for over 6 years with frequent outbreaks. Sometimes I average 2-3 times per month. Before one breakout could end, the next would begin. Nothing has helped me. I came online in search for a possible way to see how I can fight this virus so I found Ohikhobo here online after seeing a lot of testimonies of how he cured herpes and other diseases with natural herbs so I decided to give it a try I only took his remedy for two weeks and I was completely cured. I recommend Ohikhobo's remedy to anyone suffering from herpes that wants to be completely cured too.
