R's Posting Their L's in Leadership Positions: GOP "Leader" Kevin McCarthy Defends 13 Defectors That Supported Biden's Pork-Heavy, Social-Spending-Heavy Fake Infrastructure Bill; Claims That Paul Gosar's Posting of a Meme Is Just as Bad

Headline suggestion from Seems Legit.

What.

Is.

The Point.

Of voting for this party.

Chip Roy makes that exact point. He demands that McCarthy explain to him how he can make the case to his voters to vote Republican, when Republicans vote with the Democrats every. single. time.

And the leadership defends them. Every. Single. Time.

Melanie Zanona
@MZanona

NEW: During a closed door party meeting, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy urged Republicans to stick together as some in the conference vow retaliation against the 13 Rs who voted for infrastructure, saying now isn’t the time to go after fellow members, per sources in room.

McCarthy also told members he talked to Gosar about his anime video depicting violence against Dems & he took the vid down.

It was an anime featuring a cartoon super samurai hitting a giant kaiju with AOC's face in the neck with a blade.

He retweeted it.

This is the CNN wrestling video all over again, and Kevin McCarthy is, again, taking the CNN side of the "controversy."

Re: My description of the clip:

I'm confused. I thought it was an Attack on Titan parody? (Season 1 has the best anime opening song, IMO.)
Posted by: Pooky's Girl

it was, did I describe it wrong? I don't know anime. I didn't see the clip because it's CENSORED because it's SO TRIGGERING and INCITING TO VIOLENCE. I am going by vague verbal descriptions, which are also CENSORED due to being LITERALLY VIOLENCE.

He pointed out Dems havent punished their own members like Maxine Waters, who said "we've got to get more confrontational" about police brutality.

Gosar also got up at the mics to try to explain his anime video and said a threat of violence was not his intention, sources said.

No it was a dumb thing he retweeted from a supporter that meant nothing except "Yay Paul, you get that AOC!"

And everyone knows this, including the leftwing propagandists who claim Your Speech Is Violence And I Feel Unsafe.

MORE NEWS from GOP meeting: Rep. Chip Roy and McCarthy got into a heated exchange, per source.

Roy lamented that he has to now go back to his district and explain why people should bother voting Republican when they handed a victory to Dems, and argued leadership should act.

McCarthy then got up and shot back that he's had to explain to voters many times votes that Roy has taken.

Roy pressed McCarthy to name which votes he was taking about -- "Really?" said Roy -- but McCarthy didn't name any, the source said.

But the GOP will do nothing about this, because it's not a conservative party. It's an Alternate Democrat Party.

Rep. Brian Babin tells me people are really "mad" and "upset" that Republicans didn't stay unified in opposition to the infrastructure bill and is considering supporting this resolution.

Rep. Jim Jordan, a McCarthy ally, says there "ought to be a discussion" about it.

Rep. Ralph Norman, a freedom caucus member, tells me "the time is right" to pursue punishment against Katko.

But several Rs -- including some that opposed infra -- did stand up during meeting to defend the infrastructure Rs, saying everyone has a right to vote their districts.

Katko is the ranking member on the Homeland Security Committee. I'm sure he's not doing business with the Democrats on Russiagate stuff at all. And I'm sure he's a real Border Hawk.

Breitbart explains what a leftwing disaster this bill is.

Despite its moniker as a "bipartisan infrastructure bill," the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act contains no conservative victories but has many leftist carveouts.

...

Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN), the Republican Study Committee (RSC) chairman, noted that only $110 billion of the $1.2 trillion in spending would fund roads, bridges, and other projects that most Americans would consider infrastructure.

The bill would fix "racism physically built into some of our highways," as Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has claimed.

...

The bipartisan infrastructure would also advance leftist priorities:

Defines "gender identity" as a protected class.

Doles out "digital equity" grants partly based on racial or ethnic minority status.

State-mandated carbon reduction program

Contains funding for "zero-emission vehicles"

Addresses "over-the-road bus tolling equity"

Contains the word "equity" 64 times

Provides roughly $2.5 billion to help the U.S. government expand the border processing stations used by migrants from poor Central American nations and other regions around the world.

Contains a $10 million grant to create a Vehicle Miles Travelled Tax (VMT) Pilot program, which many conservatives argue could lead to a permanent VMT tax.

A $1 million per state grant to encourage children to walk to school.

That's the only one I don't mind: everyone should walk more.

But what does that have to do with infrastructure?

Thank you, RINOs!

And thank you, McCarthy, for defending them!

Meanwhile: Both Liz Cheney and John Katko are proud to be called RINOs.

Democrat-aligned Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) and Rep. John Katko (R-NY) on Monday celebrated being publicly called "RINOs."

According to a Bloomberg reporter, Cheney and Katko passed one another outside the House chamber. Cheney shouted at Katko, "Hey, it's the RINO!"

"Takes one to know one," Katko replied, acknowledging their political opposition to American First Republicanism.

This is like a moral trap. You obviously do not want the Dems in power. However, the opposition is likely to look at a majority and do different bad things.

Primaries are the only option.

Okay, Kev. I will consider your position that unity is the most important thing to maintain minority influence, but I have a condition. In order for me to consider your position, you need to tell me when it *will* be the time to go after assholes with "R" after their names, and what they will have to do to make that response valid.

Because this is pretty bad, Kev. It was a betrayal, and a betrayal and long and virtually unbroken line of previous betrayals. So what will it take, and when will it be acceptable? You need to answer that in order for your position to even be considered instead of rejected out of hand.

But you won't answer that and you can't answer that. So I reject it out of hand. Fuck you.

The House GOP better rise up and dump McCarthy as their leader. The Republicans will probably retake the House next year. The next Speaker of the House should not come from California but from an actual solid conservative district in a Red state.

This is a prerequisite to get actual conservative leadership in congress and embolden those who are willing to fight.

73 But several Rs -- including some that opposed infra -- did stand up during meeting to defend the infrastructure Rs, saying everyone has a right to vote their districts.

If "voting your district" means voting with the Dems, then you're better off as a Democrat and not a Republican.

And representing the interests of your district doesn't mean being a rubber stamp for bad laws. Leadership means that you have to be willing to stand up and explain to the voters back home why the popular bill was a bad bill. They elect you to do the hard work of reading the bills, understanding the positive and negative effects, and making the tough decisions.

Let a thousand flowers bloom: this is the way to take out the GOPe. BTW, Trump should be doing this as well.

91 In theory, I'm not opposed to letting squishes and CoC shills in marginal districts occasionally vote like squishes and CoC shills. The problem with the BIF vote is that was bad/dumb tactics.

If McCarthy could have told the thirteen, "Hey, we're going to let you vote for this ... eventually. But the smart play here is to let Biden twist in the wind for a bit. Plus, let me see if we can leverage your BIF votes for something worthwhile." But McCarthy was just like, "Whatevs. Hey Luntz, what are you cooking me for dinner tonight?"

but i think the take away here is, vote in your state and local elections, and for any king of federal race, unless you're lucky enough to have MTG, Bobert, etc. vote OUT the incumbent, regardless of who they are.

will it work? probably not, but it won't hurt either, and at least on a state and local level you're more directly impacting your community and life.

180 I was re-reading some material about Julius Caesar last night. The material had to do with Caesar's political enemies and how both conservative and liberal members of the Roman Senate plotted against Caesar because Caesar was popular with the average citizen and that Caesar showed the average citizen that both sides of the senate were corrupt and only interested in keeping the status quo in power. Even those senators who were Caesar's friend plotted against him; fearful of losing their power.

From this point forward, it's all routine maintenance and dealing with failures. The last of the shit I knew about is now handled.

And my final total for everything to do with this place (moving, furniture, improvements, repairs, etc.) came in over budget, but by less than a grand. I did it. I'm pleased.

it's me Donna, I just had this convo with a friend up here in blue wailing NoVA.
Our county is one of the three that usually outvotes the rest of the state and made it purple, then blue.
This time, McAuliffe didn't get the percentages he needed here to overcome how strongly the red counties turned out, and it made a difference, both the strong turnout downstate, and the crossovers up here, PLUS the usuals who think their vote doesn't matter since we're in a blue county, so they make a renunciatory "statement" throwaway vote on any candidate less-than-perfect.
We didn't do the circular firing squad this time, and the usual OneTrueConservativeTMs (with often a strong whiff of Nevertrump) didn't bloviate loud and long about how they simply couldn't vote for either candidate, and it didn't matter anyway because blueblueblue.
This time it did.
I think we owe it to the rest of the state to vote, and it worked, this time in VA.
not to mention it is our duty as citizens

We have to become more involved in primaries, etc. We can not longer accpet a binary choice in the general. We have to get involved in primaries and be strong about our beiefs and who we want. The days of letting the fat, old, on-the-take, greedy, panty-sniffing men do the selecting for us should end. Soon.

It's on you.

The Republican Party is a crutch for the Democrats. They have been for a long time, but they no longer bother hiding it. It's just in-your-face, and has been since 2015. And they're an *important* crutch.

They keep the illusion of representative rule intact. They provide a scapegoat when needed. They always help to advance the agenda through their total inaction when in "power." And most importantly, they provide an insurmountable obstacle to the formation of an American political party. A party that would undoubtedly attract *many* of the Democrats' own voters, who would never consider voting for one of these sack-of-shit GOP clowns.

As small little peons, there is very little we can do to strike back at the Democrat power machine. But there is the *one* thing... we can kick that crutch out from under them. Just a matter of turning your back and walking away. And it's the first and absolutely necessary step toward change. Nothing else can proceed until the GOP is eliminated.

248 Brat defeated Cantor, and immediately dropped his Tea Party cred to become GOPe. I think it was BIG PHARMA money that turned him. Anyway, Brat was defeated in the 2018 cycle by Spannberger, who was one of several "ex"-CIA chicks that were funded by millions of dark money dollars to win deep Red seats.

In 2020, she was defeated by a few hundred votes by Nick Freitas (this is "real" Virginia not Northern Virginia), a Republican with LOTS of statewide name recognition for his 2A stand (people may recall that was a thing in 2019) and a former US Army Special Forces soldier.

Well, defeated until they "found" a USB stick with 83000 votes on it. Every single vote on the stick was for Spannberger. Every. One.

The county elections supervisor "took responsibility." He said it was his fault, he had relabeled a USB stick because he wanted the save the taxpayers money. See, a 4 GB stick cost $135, so he reused it (yes you may pricecheck that, thank you). And then, you know, forgot about it. Until after Spannberger lost.

For example, McConnell let the BIF get through the Senate with 16 GOP votes on the theory that letting Manchin (and Sinema) have BIF, they'd then be less enamored with the reconciliation bill (BBB). It's a gamble, but it was a calculated one that's sort of worked so far. 300 the problem would be obtaining Gatling gun. The other problem would be finding a use for it.

sure there is modern stuff like mini guns. I was mostly just joking around.But in then end, the use would be the big deal in my opinion. the funny thing about Gatling guns is they never made a serious difference on any battlefield and they never affected the outcome of any war whatsoever. They are cool though, no question there.

They were so fearsome that nobody wanted to face them, that is why there was a long period of peace after the civil war. There were experiments in the 1890's of motorizing them, they actually had one that would fire 3000 rounds per minute, like a modern minigun. Eventually they went with machine guns, it wasn't until Vietnam that Gatling guns appeared in combat.

There is a commercial cranked Gatling gun available for $5,000 msrp.

Predicting these things always is dicey, but it's the latter. I read this as a good thing because it signals some have said upfront it is self defense and will not budge from acquittal and are trying to keep the Squeaking Karens from hanging the jury. The only way to deal with Squeaking Karens is to read the instructions to them and call them fucking idiots and socially shame them. I would like to know about the men who are jurors because it is one or more of them that has announced it is self defense and they will not convict.

Of course, it could be the opposite, but think what is speculated above to be correct.

Like I said before, the time to oppose BIF is not the day before the vote, but the months before, when it went to the House. actually it makes perfect sense, since I (and many others) predicted yesterday that the Jury was going to have a lot of trouble with the instructions because they were a big, confusing mess. The US would cut its carbon emissions in half simply by finding ways to keep millions of moms from idling for 45 minutes waiting to pick up a kid from school, five afternoons a week. Idling is required to keep the a/c or heat working non-stop.

406 296 I get that people don't like McConnell for plenty of valid reasons, but he's not McCarthy and not really a problem/roadblock for conservative governance.

For example, McConnell let the BIF get through the Senate with 16 GOP votes on the theory that letting Manchin (and Sinema) have BIF, they'd then be less enamored with the reconciliation bill (BBB). It's a gamble, but it was a calculated one that's sort of worked so far. McCarthy had/has no plan at all and most of those 13 reps probably never even got a call from him about their BIF vote (before or after).
Posted by: Match Checksout at November 16, 2021 02:02 PM (dYe5S)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nope. If not for the idiot GOP Senators voting for the "biPaRtiSaN" bill, the $3.5 T BBB was dead on arrival, requiring not just Manchin and Sinema, but 10 more GOP Senators to pass cloture, or Manchin and Sinema to go back on their pledge not to kill the filibuster.
And I'm not sure the progressive whackos in the House were going to knuckle under and pass the small bill knowing that their grand plans for BBB were effectively dead.
Indeed. If you didn't know better, you might think it was a sneaky left-wing campaign to undermine their only opposition....
If you want to punish the GOP, don't abandon them -- take them over! Just like the left did with the Democrats. Do it by not giving to the party or their campaign committees but by supporting specific candidates who align with your values. Keep pushing them to change, to get rid of the tired old leadership, inject new blood. Push them to elect a new speaker and majority leader when they retake Congress.
Posted by: Rusty Trawler at November 16, 2021 02:20 PM (1gif2)
410 I do think that Republicans gaining Congress and the presidency in 2024 could lead to a serious split in the Democratic Party.
Their coalition has been fraying for years, and a loss in 2020 would have probably led to some kind of split as everyone pointed fingers while taking control. I could easily imagine the Squad (backed by hundreds of millions of dollars) saying, "The Establishment is only interested in failure theater and not real progressive gains and governance. Fuck them. We're striking out on our own."
I still think they can do that, but 4 years of disaster from pretty much the epitome of talentless Establishment stooge Biden will just make the argument more intense and immediate. The blood will be in the water for sure, especially if it's Trump who wins in 2024.
Yeah, but guess who did all the work come time to dress up the gym for the dances and do all the stuff needed for the Queens and Kings and for the Photog selected to select the Queens for the Yearbook Queen and who got to pick the photos sent to same photog to pick? (sometimes a celebrity. I think they sent them to a bunch and took whoever responded)
Pretty much daily the local bay area news has some snippet about some hit and run or somebody being run over with the occasional shoot if you missed 'em as well. Strangely, police are asking for your help, but even with all of those witnesses, "he looka like a man".
A local Asian education activist loved by the community was recently run over in the middle of the day, the school district mourns, there's a giant make-shift memorial (how can you tell them apart at this point?) yet, nobody knows what the perp looked like. Please help!
------
The GOP has been making this abundantly clear since Reagan tried to crack their rice bowl in the 80s. It's gotten more and more and more blatant since then.
Somewhere along the line, we got to the point where Mitch McConnell was openly canvassing Democrats in MS to cross the line and vote for Cochran, because "Chris McDaniel has promised to remove voting rights for black people." We got to the point where he knifed Roy Moore. Better a Democrat than a conservative. We got to the point where the Tea Party gave the GOP House and Senate majorities and they just passed Obama's budget anyway. We got to the point of #NeverTrump. We got to the point of the 2016-2018 fake "government."
If someone can't see what's going on here, it's because they don't want to.
463 Hooker was not that bad. Sure he didn't win any major battles but did do some good stuff.He increased morale in the Army. The AOP was a political entity and most generals were scared to take the top job because they knew so many would be out to get them. Hooker was hated by the union general Halleck. Halleck wanted to take Hooker out and Hooker foolishly let him do so and it was done with ease.
No gotcha here, but is has been proven that the term hookers did not come from General Hooker. The term was used well before his time. Now side burns did come from general Burnside. Really, how could that not be the case.
btw, the hooker thing is close, I am not saying it is not controversial or disputed. Sure most of the evidence says hookers did not become a term because of this general.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I don't think that's accurate. Fact is, after Democrats passed the Obama "Recovery Act", they refused to pass another budget because all the graft in that stimulus bill became their baseline budget. So they just punted year after year after year.

The only thing close was the budget control act of 2011 that actually required some amount of budget CUTS

473 One problem. For example, Cocaine Mitch needs Murkowski's vote in the Senate until 2022. He has to say he's with her. When it comes time, Machiavelli would cut her guts out.

Alaskans can overcome this by voting her out in the primary. Then, Mitch can have room to maneuver.

Not similar in the House because they are in the minority, and don't have a chance until after 2022. They ought to be taking prisoners and bayoneting the wounded now.

475 When you ask what the point is for voting for this party.

There is no point in voting for this party. They, being the Elites along with the leaders of both parties, along with various 3 letter agencies, along with the major news networks who lie, bury vital news, make up garbage news out of whole cloth who are completely controlled by the other party.

You and I are beaten. Whipped like old Indian circus elephants.
They have us whipped at the ballot box via a simple dial up to put "this party" in the review mirror.

So there you go. Gas is 3.50 a gallon so if you want to burn a buck or two to go cast a useless ballot then go get that "I voted" sticker and feel like you make a difference.

Good luck.

476 Official tally in the House is 221 Democrats, 213 Republicans, and one vacancy.

Actual tally in the House is 336 Democrats, 98 Republicans, and one vacancy. We need to acknowledge this, and deal with it accordingly. We need to stop lying to ourselves as to what the political division in DC really is.

That's why the GOP never passes anything: they are outnumbered by frauds, liars, and fifth-columnists. I'm not against the GOP; I'm merely dismayed at the number of folks who call themselves Republicans, and are allowed to get away with it without challenge. I'll be more than happy to vote for Republicans - if there are real Republicans who are actually running.

Posted by: LCMS Rulz! at November 16, 2021 03:58 PM (K58O6)

477 I may be repeating what someone else said, but it seems that there is a lot of tap dancing here, on a historical scale. In the 1850's the ruling party for a long time was the Whigs. They were opposed by Democrats. The Whigs, after decades of get along to go along betrayal of their own base ended up not really standing for anything. That ended in 1854 when disgusted Whigs left to start the Republican Party. At that point, the Whigs had lost so much credibility about standing for or believing in anything that the new Republicans grew in a mere 6 years to take over the Presidency and both Houses of Congress.

This was, of course, the final step before the Civil War wherein the Democrats [based almost exclusively in the South] tried to abandon the Constitution. Well, kinda like Democrats today, except they are now urban-based and not southern based. It had to be fought out, was bloody, and was settled with total Confederate defeat.

There are differences with today. Our Republican-Whigs now have stifled any attempt at a working new party. Political means of change are no longer possible, because the Republicans want to side with the Democrats. END PART ONE

Posted by: Subotai Bahadur at November 16, 2021 04:44 PM (MB0cG)

478 PART TWO OF TWO:

Events move faster today. There is not time to negotiate differences, especially in our all or nothing world. Like the country reached a point where the Clausewitzian form of politics [war] was all that was left after Lincoln was elected, we are on the edge of the same remaining solution.

Now, even the act of voting cannot be trusted to give a true result of the votes cast. Which rules out conventional politics. As the master of my avatar said to the Shah of Khwarism in his declaration of war; "Only the Great Blue Sky Tengri Nor knows what the outcome will be."
