Brian William Will Retire After 28 Years of Lying While Wearing Circus Makeup

I believe this is an "up or out" situation. I think Williams expected that one day he would be allowed to sit again in the Big Chair of NBC News anchor.

The network said, "Nah, Brian."

Newsbusters remembers The Secret Life of Brian Mitty.

On Tuesday, MSNBC 11th Hour anchor Brian Williams announced he was not renewing his contract with the network at the end of the year as he stated: "This is the end of a chapter and the beginning of another."
What Williams didn't say was how this latest chapter began. His move to MSNBC was a demotion following a suspension from his exalted perch as NBC Nightly News anchor after multiple revelations of Williams lying over the years.
It began in February 2015 when Williams was caught lying about his helicopter being under fire while covering Iraq invasion in 2003. At one point he even likened it to "Black Hawk Down meets Saving Private Ryan." Soldiers complaining on Facebook led to an article in Stars and Stripes newspaper, where those brave men who escorted Williams said all his stories were junk. Williams apologized for it. But then the floodgates opened. The internet started digging up other falsehoods.
During the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Williams claimed he worked through a bout with dysentery and claimed he witnessed a dead body floating outside his Ritz-Carlton hotel room. Actually, he told three different versions: there was a body floating, there was a dead body on a street corner, and someone told him he’d seen a body floating. He also claimed he’d seen armed gangs at his hotel.
On an NBC prime time special a year after Katrina in 2006, Williams treated New Orleans as the most dangerous town on Earth, complete with weird boasts like "I carried a case of Vienna sausage... as collateral in case we had a smash-and-grab carjacking. I was going to offer it to someone in exchange for my life." Williams claimed he was so starving for food that "I remember seeing a box of Slim Jims and thinking, 'That’s better than any restaurant meal right now. That's the greatest thing I've ever seen.'" The section of the French Quarter from which Williams was reporting suffered minimal flooding, and in some parts, no flooding. There were no bodies floating. The city's former health director has declared that no one in the city was treated for dysentery, even a month after the flooding. The manager of the Ritz-Carlton (where he stayed) actually won an award for keeping the place safe from roving gangs with a cadre of police.

And like the old reporter of that ballad, I now close my journalism career and just fade away, an old reporter who tried to do his duty as God gave him the light to see that duty.

You're more optimistic than I am. I don't think there's a Great Wine Mom Pivot in the works. They might agree with the sentiment here that everything is worse - but it won't change their behavior or beliefs. Their world view, whatever the modern version of the knitting circle, their entire identity is tied up in it. It may be worse, but you can be damn sure that it someone else's fault.

They cheated big in VA this year, and they lost. The thing is that they were allowed to cheat bigger in 2020, but many of the covid related voting rules have been rolled back. Some places like CA have statutorily instituted these rules forever in response, but most have pulled back like in PA and GA. Hell, the MI election of 2020 was declared illegal by federal courts earlier this year (didn't change anything regarding 2020, of course), but it's going to make it significantly harder for the MI SecState to do anything like she did last time again.

There is definitely reason for hope.

We met a great many wine moms trying to win school board seats. They know that things are bad. They are very angry about it. They by and large want COVID to end / go away as an issue.

But they are all locked into the social status game, and won't deviate from the socially-enforced leftism that permeates these groups. We found some conservativish moms on the margins, and befriended them, but it took time and we had to play a game of signals with them to indicate that we also didn't believe the leftist garbage.

It's a two part test. First, how often do you cheat, because each time you do, it gets harder in the future. Second, how big a cheat is it? That's where the Dems are screwed. I thought I read on one of ace's Virginia election posts that some Democrat-voting wine moms were interviewed and asked why they voted against McAuliffe and they said it was over the school stuff and that he wasn't listening to them on it. I interpreted that to mean that they were fine with everything and had McAuliffe simply said some bullshit during the campaign to ease their worries, they would have gladly voted for him.

They cheated, but because of VA law there was an upper limit to how much they could cheat. Also, the GOPe was actually interested in keeping the election at least moderately honest this time.

Virginia is a special kind of squirrelly. In 2020, Trump lost by about 10 points to Biden which is about right for polling and how he performed v Hillary 4 years prior.

But a few seats in the House flipped after votes were..."found." And you know, each of those flips was from an R winner to a D winner. I know you are looking for your shocked face.

Soo...currently two seats that Rs won in VA House of Delegates race on Nov 3 are being challenged because there are votes to be found. Oh, and if those two seats flip to D, control of the chamber does, too. So keep your shocked face handy.

I thought I read on one of ace's Virginia election posts that some Democrat-voting wine moms were interviewed and asked why they voted against McAuliffe and they said it was over the school stuff and that he wasn't listening to them on it.

I read some of the post election interviews with Youngkin voters - the top two items sited were the school stuff and clot shot mandates.

And amusingly one of the guys interviewed went into detail about how much he HATED Youngkin over things like abortion and gay rights...but if he didn't want to get the clot shot he had to vote for him.

It might. There's a better way. After a precinct counts their votes, they send a "ready to report results" message to the SoS system. After all precincts check in as ready, the SoS system sends a "report results" message. All precincts then post results to the SoS system. Any report that takes longer than five minutes to arrive is sequestered and the precinct is subjected to a mandatory full audit. But prior to full readiness, the results are not known outside the precinct.

This is how to govern GOP. The Houses are to be a counterweight to the Exec and not a rubber stamp or a place to send bribe money vis a vis dough for certain states if they vote the way the Pres. wants.

I think the Judge had to allow some kind of instruction on the provocation issue, because as a matter of law Provocation is one of the only things that can defeat an otherwise valid claim of self defense. And whether or not there was Provocation is an issue of fact to be decided by a Jury, not a Judge.

Judges decide issues of Law, Juries decide issues of Fact. at least that's the Theory.

I don't know how it works but they may not have had the either the info or the evidence to counter a certification. That's not all on the entire legislators as the ones who knew something was up were in a minority. The rest still had blinders on as this state had always tended to believe the Dems wouldn't go that far. Stupid thinking but you find that a lot out in the rural where they still have the same perceptions that things are still like they were decades ago. We know they're not and I think a lot of legislators learned the hard way that they're not and the Dems are not to be trusted.

I agree. I think that the defense is using that as another hook for appeal if necessary. Judge does not want a mistrial over instructions to the jury and more or less said that the jury should make the major decisions in case.

On successful appeals of cases, instructions to the jury that the appellate court finds faulty is a large percentage of trial judge errors that result in a new trial.

There is the possibility of an interlocutory appeal (trial stops until appellate court makes decision--that happened in MN Chauvin case I believe on the third degree murder charge) but that depends on the state and judicial attitude of the appellate courts. So, unless WI has some statute, constitutional provision, or caselaw to the contrary, the prosecution could appeal the instruction which would overturn the verdict.
