Posted by: Ben Had at November 10, 2021 07:49 PM (xOvFO) Ben, I left a long suggestion for pin removal on the previous thread. One further thought: can you access the full length of the sleeve in which the pin is trapped? In which case, use a thin cutoff disc in an angle grinder, slit the sleeve lengthwise until rust appears in the slit, spread the sleeve a little with hammer and cold chisel, and then knock pin out. This has worked for me removing stuck hinge pins on vehicle doors and tailgates. Then weld the slit up, use a drill to clean out the sleeve, install new pin. Every year a pair of geese would make babies in this swampy area next to a 4 lane road by the house. When they'd go for a walkabout they would stay on the shoulder on the right of the white line. Cars would be zooming by them and they would just walk the shoulder. Scared the hell out of me just watching them but I swear they knew the rules of the road.

I had no idea the Braves won the world series. I had no idea the world series even happened. I mean I know it is a thing and it happens sometime in late fall. But it's kinda like I dunno, Latvia. I know the country exists and maybe once every 5 years I may hear something about the country. Other than that it is a non entity in my life. You could offer me $1M to name the country's president and I'd come up blank. Same with any current MLB players. They both mean nothing to me. The only way you give these people power is by a) caring about it and b) which is related to a, giving them money. And that includes watching it on TV. You may not be paying for it directly, but sponsors like Coke pay sportsball teams/leagues money for every eyeball they get. I have an equipment review! When I was in the market for a portable tire compressor for the car, the Horde recommended the Tirewell. I got to actually use it today and it worked really well. I got the one for pickups. I couldn't get it to connect to the battery but it worked fine using the lighter outlet. It wasn't all that expensive and is pretty compact.
Posted by: Notsothoreau - look forward at November 10, 2021 08:12 PM (5HBd1) I'll check that one. I got one years ago that's passable, but that's about it. There's a YT channel called Project Farm I recommend. The dude reviews a variety of things, but goes into extreme detail and measurements. Tries to be as scientific about it as possible. Hand tools, power tools, car detailing products, you name it. Very clever, and amazingly entertaining. Not often I'll hold still for 20 minutes to see somebody systematically destroy screwdrivers. If there's a downside, he can only review so many products so invariably misses something. You don't have to believe that there are sentient breakfast cereals on some distant planet, but if they're out there, it's true. Plenty of things are *true* even if no human on Earth believes it. Science is not a fixed body of knowledge, it's a process and methodology. Methodologies can be "true", as an arrow flies "true". On CNN, Jacob Blake's uncle says Rittenhouse has shown no remorse because he has no remorse for killing two people with families who miss them. Also, Rittenhouse is an immature kid who mistakenly stepped into the adult world and needs to be punished for his murders. And...the judge is terrible, putting his thumb on the scales.
Welp, looks like we should stay tuned for riots in Kenosha if Ritt is acqitted or the judge throws out the case. Critical Drinker does a review of the Star Trek universe. And he talks about how the early shows had adults running the ships. And they behaved like you would expect the military to behave. But the new movies, the ones with young versions of Kirk and Spock, are like they were written by teenagers. Crew members are snarky and overly emotional. I thought it was a really good analysis.

Occasionally, an open ended question can be done on cross but it is where the crossing counsel is planning on hitting them regardless of the answer. Essentially it is when a counsel departs from the script and lets the witness condemn themselves. The typical example question is Q) When have you stopped beating your spouse? A) response by witness in form of various denials. Then following with the question Q) Well when did you stop? he answer by the witness is irrelevant to the questioner. It is just to shake the witness up by condemning them no matter what they answer. Occasionally, an open ended question can help display when someone is out of their depth of knowledge when crossing an expert witness (Socratic questioning). Then open ended questions can also be used to simply lay some foundation for some other more pertinent questions. Thus, where did you go to school? Then isn't it true that you were classmates. Interesting story on zerohedge about whether the natsec and intel deep state is ok with destroying the reserve status of US currency and thus the empire versus the financiers wanting more and more dollars printed. Britain was so poor after WWII that even the young Princess Elizabeth had to make a show of using coupons from clothing rations for a wedding dress. On an actually serious note, I've always found it very interesting that the sectarian violence cooled off shortly before 9/11. IIRC the Tamil Tigers thing did too. 474 Marcus T is in investments, he believes the same thing--the question is timing. There might be a January effect or might not depending on Christmas spending affecting a lot of corporate earnings. The threat of lurking tax increases in the BBB bill is also chilling any investment by businesses so if consumer and investment spending is down coupled with record breaking import/export deficits--any government spending will simply throw fuel on the fire on inflation without appreciably helping GDP in Q1 and Q2 of next year.
For an example, take a look what happened after VJ day in the US economy. A similar but even deeper economic crisis happened after WWI ended. Essentially the US blew its wad on Covid spending and the alleged infrastructure bill without yielding much in appreciable permanent growth in the economy. More money chasing fewer goods, inflation results. Posted by: whig at November 10, 2021 09:22 PM (9hXN1) 505

It's expensive as gold at least. Pappy people are strange.
Posted by: Aetius451AD Work Laptop at November 10, 2021 09:30 PM (kBuGL) ------------- The internet and the bourbon fad have ruined bourbon. Eight years ago, Van Winkle Family Reserve Lot B would just sit on the shelves of my local liquor stores because $80 was a lot for a bottle of what's was once mostly an everyman spirit. There wasn't the snooty cachet of single malt scotch and the prices reflected that. Finding a bottle of bourbon over $100 was a rarity except among the Pappy stuff, but even that was under $200ish. I toasted a good friend's 40th birthday 5 years ago with a pour of Pappy 23 at a bar, that cost me $75. It was kinda dumb but it was an occasion and that was my excuse, saying I'd never do it again. At a restaurant last year, the same pour of Pappy was $275. It's stupid, and people who pay these prices for bourbon are also stupid. Posted by: ballistic at November 10, 2021 09:37 PM (oXNqT) 558

That is so funny -- "Pappy something whiskey". Very obvious that you aren't into bourbon. Pappy Van Winkle -- elusive, nearly impossible to find bourbon. There are a few varieties -- different number of years aged. Liquid gold, unobtanium, white whale, trophy -- all of those terms fit. I've tried Wan Winkle 12 year (only the 15, 20, and 23 year versions are called Pappy Van Winkle). What I had was damn good. But not exponentially better than some stuff that is easily available. Hope your son gets to enjoy the Pappy!! Posted by: Doof at November 10, 2021 09:29 PM (mZUr4) Hint....mix Weller 12yr and Weller 107 at a 60/40 ratio and you get poor man's pappy. I watched Venezuela go down. In part, it was because it had two rapacious political parties plundering every nickel it could get. So Mr. Chavez, freshly out of prison for trying a coup, ends up getting a majority of the vote simply because he was not tied to either corrupt party. Like most times in history, Chavez was more interesting in lining his own pockets and getting vengeance on his class enemies than actually ruling wisely. That is what I am afraid will happen. I happen to favor Scotch or Irish whiskey (I know whisky) rather than bourbon. But what you pay is not always related to what is on the bottle. Knew a guy that did a lot of social events at his house for professional purposes. He kept the empty bottles of the good stuff and poured the rotgut bar generics in their place for guests to pour their own. Very few could tell the difference--especially in a mixed drink.
