6 The condo I rented for vacation this past week was atop a coffee shop. One of the rental benefits was free coffee from the place.

The shop was full of neck beards and man buns and that was just the women. Worst coffee I've ever had. Undrinkable.

How about this boys - learn to make a pot of regular coffee without burning it. Tomorrow we'll cover how to say 'Hello' to your customers.

It was a locally owned place. Unfortunately owned by the family of a woman I went to school with. She's after me to leave a review.

This will take all my skill as a BSer to seemingly say nice things but ultimately meaningless. "Beautiful building - in the vibrant blah blah neighborhood."

I'm up to the challenge.

44 On June 19, 1953, Julius died after the first electric shock. Ethel's execution did not go smoothly. After she was given the normal course of three electric shocks, attendants removed the strapping and other equipment only to have doctors determine that Ethel's heart was still beating. Two more electric shocks were applied, and at the conclusion eyewitnesses reported that smoke rose from her head.[47] Joseph Francel, then New York State Electrician, was the executioner.

When we moved to this town over 30 years ago a local told me that the only people who didn't have jobs didn't want to work. At the time I thought that was bit harsh of him to say, but time has proven him correct. The thing about hiring people is that within one hour, you know if they're going to work out or not. Either they came to work or they didn't.

I am not putting my mask back on. I made one exception, at the barber shop. They are worried and they have not recieved the all clear yet. I let that one go. But other than that one instance, I am done with it. My local grocery store gave me too huge tubs of hand sanitizer for free. I asked them why and they said it was a promotion. I think even they know the jig is up. Why not make a promotion of getting rid of things you won't be able to sell much longer. I still use the sanitizer once in a while as a habit. But the mask is over. Dominos told me to wear a mask on a take out and I told them to get stuffed.

Re: reports of myocarditis following mRNA vaccine, a causal link has not been established. This article in the WaEx lays out the two sides of the discussion pretty well.

There have been 275 reported cases of symptomatic myocarditis out of approx. 12 million individuals in the 16 to 24 year age group (0.000023 04 -.0023%). Historically myocarditis is an infrequent to rare disease, but by no means unheard of. The true incidence of myocarditis in the general population is not really known, because a large number of cases have either mild or no symptoms, and never seek medical evaluation.

Historically, the leading cause os myocarditis is the family of enteroviruses, in particular coxsackie virus, These viruses are more frequent during warm weather months (i.e. now).

So is this reported surge due to myocarditis actually caused by the vaccine? Or is it the result of amplification due to hyper-vigilance (surveillance bias) and not really a surge at all? IOW, are we finding more cases because we are looking for them and merely uncovering the underlying baseline occurrence in the general population?

we had a cat once that was half siamese, half manx, quite a fighter. We had to trim her claws or she would shred everything, but the question was how to do it since she hated it so much. We came up with waiting until she was relaxed, then throwing a beach towel over her and wrapping her up tight. Then, while one held her, the other would fish one paw out of the folds at a time and trim the claws. Oh she would make a hell of a noise while that was going on!!! But she couldn't move.

164 Re: diagnosing myocarditis, as a clinician:

1. First you have to suspect it. Patient's presenting complaint = symptoms = chest pain, irregular heart rhythm, shortness of breath or fainting with exertion, +/- fever.
2. Is there impairment of heart electrical function? Do an ECG or 24-hour monitor.
3. Is there impairment of heart mechanical function? Is there fluid accumulation around the heart? Do an echocardiogram.
If these steps are negative a clinical diagnosis of myocarditis is not established.

But, at academic centers or in a research setting an MRI scan of the heart can be done and can show very low-level, not widespread areas of inflammation (swelling of muscle cells, hot spots of radio-isotope uptake).

165 156 I've been trimming my cat's claws since they were tiny wee kittens. Nearly 12 years later, they'll sit placidly on my lap while I run the nippers over all eighteen grippin' n' rippin' appendages.

Oh, and they'll continue to sit while I brush the clippings out of their belly-fur. Just have to start when they're young and stay on it every 10 days or so.

You know, you're right. I have one of those kittens with a perennially dirty face. I had to hold her down at first to wash her face but she now sits placidly and purrs while I do it. Wish I'd had brains enough to carry that through to the claws. Well, it's never too late. I'd better scrounge up a beach towel.

Same as with RBG. We'll never see Biden, but we'll be told he's large and in charge and still lucid and giving orders. I suspect Jill will become Our Highly Trusted Presidential Spokesgal.

The media and the Dims and the Reps will all go along even if Biden's dead and sitting in a freezer until the time's right.

Biden will hole up in the WH, explained away by citing all the right wing domestic terrorists and how it's unsafe for him to venture out.

I think the game plan is to first get rid of Harris and put in whoever they want to replace Biden. He's useful to them now, but at some point, his expiration date will roll around. When it does, he's gone.

We've seen a little bit of noise from the MSM that's negative for Harris. They don't do that unless they're a) allowed or b) told to do it. Expect it to ramp up as Biden declines.

****

Myocarditis that is subclinical, i.e. not suspected becaause of mild or no symptoms, and not looked for with testing, is not diagnosed, and will self-resolve. So it is as if it never happened. The true incidence of this circumstaance is not known.

An MRI can detect low level cellular changes, even in asymptomatic ihfividuals.

Recall last summer there were reports of cardiac involvement following COVID infection (Big 10 student athletes, and one study out of Europe). Both of those studies used MRI changes as the basis for a "diagnosis" of myocarditis. So yes, you could say they are over-diagnosing. Just like a positive PCR COVID test in an asymptomatic individual.

(dysfunction might be the word you are looking for).

If you listen to enough Libertarians (and I do, so you don't have to), they have this huge chip on their shoulders regarding what has happened to conservatives in the past few years.

Namely, conservatives have finally awakened to the fact that NOBODY in government is their friend. Nobody in law enforcement, nobody in the military (I'm not talking about the rank and file).

So Libertarians are kinda obsolete now. And they don't like it. But they do have their open borders and dope smoking, so goody for them there.

Do you have a citation for that? I'm willing to bet that if you do it is not matched for one or more of the following: age, sex, time or diagnostic criteria (case definition) and doesn't address the issue of why the individual came to the attention of medical professionals.

244 looking at the US open right now, with 36 holes to go, I have to go with Rahm. Yes the guy that had Covid less than two weeks ago. It didn't keep him from crushing at The Memorial while in the throes of that disease. He got bounced but he was crushing the field. I like oosty, he is a good player but usually loses in the end. Dechambeau is hanging around and for sure he and others have chances. My guess is my pick has about a 30 percent chance at best. But if I had to choose right now, it would be Rahm. BTW. he is not leading, there are many ahead of him.

It's pretty obvious Biden has his lucid moments, and the ones where he's confused. I'm not sure what that all adds up to, because we don't know what drugs they have him on.

That being said, he's been a controlled politician all his life. He knows that game well, and he does what he's told. The decision to get rid of him will have more to do with the problems that come with him being a rogue actor. Which the dementia might help create.

That's an excellent point. To the extent we were naive, they knew that and exploited it. And here we are now. Nobody bats an eye at rampant, unrestrained sex habits. Indeed, at this point it would be WEIRD to not have unrestrained sex habits. Who would want to restrain sex habits? How strange...

Bottom line, a "study" that purports to show a result that seems fantastic, you have to look at the variables that might contribute to the results.

One obvious example here: what difference is there in other ways, for young men getting vaccinated, versus young men who are not. How healthy are the ones self-selecting to get the vaccine?

i am not so sure about that. I agree sex is the last refuge, they certainly wont go for other types of humor these days. But I bet they will never make movies like Porky's, Fast Times, or even 48 Hours again. Sure the sex, but it will have to have a political slant that fits in with the program. I doubt they will make even the types of movies that were all that in the mid 2000s again.

I am expecting explosions and few words, aimed at the Chinese market. If they run out of comic books they will just have to make more so they can make more movies.

Making a blanket assertion that the incidence of myocarditis is "25 TIMES the normal rate" first of all requires knowledge of what the normal rate is (see me @110). Then you must specify the length of time and the time of year of the two groups being compared. Finally you have to establish comparable criteria for patient selection and definition of what constitutes a case.

Incidence is the number of individuals with the disease (as defined), within a stated population, within a defined time period.

e.g. 17 out of a hundred women aged 25-30 selected at random from the general population had biopsy-confirmed breast cancer in January 2018

270 The only reason commercial coffee shoppes exist is so nasty old farts will have a place to stand in the same room with anyone with enough hair to consider a "man bun," or who might be an actual "libertarian."

Other than going to places where we -- get this -- pay four or five bucks to have a total stranger make a fake-cream and candy drink of over-roasted expresso that would taste burned if you cold-brewed it, because we are REAL MEN and will never learn to make coffee for ourselves, it's the only time we see other generations of humans in the flesh, instead of warning sites online and pay TV shows.
