Meet The PetMorons

IMG_5847 (1).jpg

Itty Bitty Kitty & Rosie the Ferocious Pittie, naptime.

I believe these 2 may have made an appearance about a year ago, when my daughter found a weak, sickly, at-death’s-door 3-week old kitten, and brought it in to try to save him.

Which she did, to the surprise of the veterinarian. Rosie the Pittie was immensely curious, and as you can see, the itty bitty kitty isn’t so itty bitty anymore, and he and Rosie have become best buddies. I mostly lurk, post sometimes as “Reine”.

OK, spill the kibble. Is this a staged photo or is this something that happens on a regular basis? It doesn't really matter its a sensational shot. Thanks!

Here are some pet related photos I recently found.

Adak pet cemetary (1).jpg

AND

adak National Forest (1).jpg

The first one is the Pet Cemetery located on the island of Adak, AK. It used to be a Navy base and people would bury their pets near the Adak National Forest with elaborate signs marking their graves. The base has since closed and there is only a small community there that serves a fish cannery located out by the old submarine pier from WWII.

The second one is a picture I took of the Adak National Forest in 1983. It consists of 33 trees and is the smallest and most remote of our national Forests being 1,200 air miles from the closest City. - no nic provided

Thank you for such an interesting story about the Adak Pet Cemetery. And we appreciate learning about the Adak National Forest. I for one had never heard of it.

Gus treed squirrel 5 5 2021 (2) (1).jpg

This is Gus, he showed up right when my last "found me" dog was dying.
I had had Jack for 14 years and I was not sure I wanted another dog
anytime soon. BUT, I went to run errands and he was in front of my
house in the middle of the road. (No collar) He acted like he knew
where he was going, so I thought no more about it. I must have passed
him 4-5 times with him laying curled up close to the road acting
completely at home. Well it was November and it got close to dark so I
jumped in the truck and went to see if he was still there. He was. I
asked "You wanna come home with me?" He jumped at the chance. (must
have heard about the good grub here) I had to put Jack down a couple
weeks later and was able to get to know Gus. He is a funny little guy.
He has only barked 3 times in 5 months. Never had a little dog before.
(never wanted one since they are usually yappy) Didn't mean to write an
epic on Gus. He HATES rain, but ice and snow is fine. Little weirdo.

You have showcased my beasties before and I thank you. Can't really
thank you enough, the pet thread is a pleasure each and every week. - Pam

First of all, no need to thank us here at the Pet Thread. But, you're welcome nevertheless. No one can ever replace Jack, but we are happy to here you have added a new addition to your home. Quite the heart you have there. Thanks for sharing with us.

Good afternoon MisHum,

Finally sending in pics of our two Fur Morons. Buddy, the dog, was at the shelter in the process of being surrendered by a guy who worked too much to properly take care of a young energetic dog. I was there donating stuff from our late Abby (sobs) and although we hadn't planned to adopt just yet, well, could you resist that face? We've mostly cured him of chewing on, well, everything he could find - though it'll be a long time before we can have throw pillows. Not long afterwards I went to Petsmart for cat food for Grandma Chickenbones, our now late 16 yo cat who spent 11 years running our household (sobs again). There was an adoption event going on from a local shelter, and really, what did my husband think was going to happen? I like adopting middle aged animals, everyone wants the puppies and kittens but the older ones have so much love to give. These two clowns now chase each other around by day then at bed time curl up and Tatyana gives Buddy a nice mama cat bath. - no nic provided.

Hello and thank you for your contribution today. We agree with you, what happens when one goes looking at critters. You always get a least one!! It sounds like a wonderful relationship between those 2. Great to hear.

Our 4 year old Staffy/Pit Woodson we rescued from the county kill shelter. He has been like another kid - goes everywhere we do, takes the kids' toys and stuffed animals, and sleeps with the kids going from bed to bed at night like a gypsy. One thing about most dogs, they sure pack a lot of happiness into a relatively short life window. Gotta love 'em. Thanks - Gary

Well most of us here would never argue with your quote, "...they sure pack a lot of happiness....." He certainly looks like he brings joy into your family's life. That's awesome. Thanks.

This is Jax and Kali on guard for what they think is an intruder, me with my cap on backwards.
These two were rescued Bahamian Potcakes on 'their' outlier island in North Abaco.

Loyal and loving "bush dogs", both are gone now, and sadly missed.

Thanks for sharing your friends with us today. So sad to hear they have passed on. Hopefully you can add another pooch to your life in the near future.

Our next entry has a video, written story and photo. Pretty cool video of Ranger the Kitteh.

franger (1).jpg

Good evening,
Long time lurker and occasional poster as Veteran Of A 1000 Psychic Wars.

This is Ranger. Got home in 2008. Some kitten noise coming from engine compartment in 1998 Ford Ranger. Opened hood and hood suspension system near decapitated him before I noticed. 39 mile drive from from work. Already had 6 cats and 6 dogs. But could not turn away this little treasure. He is a talker and known as the Waambulance. Waah. Waah. Waah. I have two shelves full of pet ashes. He became the old boy last year when a 17 year old man cat passed away. He is built for black and white photography and can’t resist an empty box.
I made a nice video about finding him that no one watched on youtube. Not asking you to post it but here - But if you want, I won’t mind. Here is Ranger -

That is a nicely produced video. Thanks for sharing your story about Ranger today. He sounds like he hit the jack pot when you found him.

Thank you all for your contributions today. The In-Box continues to stay full and we appreciate that. If you wish to submit a photo or story to us by all means.

25 Yay pets!

I mentioned this in a thread yesterday. While running errands yesterday I met a 4 lb. Yorkie service dog named Lucy. She fits easily in the kid seat on a shopping cart. She became a service dog when her new owner purchased a service animal id from Amazon. The owner attached the id to Lucy's harness. When told she can't bring Lucy into a store, she shows the id and no more questions.

I used to put 4 of our 5 Yorkies in my Lowes shopping cart back in the day. They were a great attractant. It was fun watching the dogs and kids interact.

26 Hello Pet Threaders. Got a couple of pet tails to pull today. One:

Married son who lives in BigCity re-homed his two doggies when they had a baby - the dogs were kind-of too wild.

So, the other day they got a call about one of the dogs. The dog's chip was still registered to them, and the dog was found as a stray, starving and ragged.

Now dog is back with them again. Great pic of toddler and dog sleeping. Hope it works out. They have many cats but their toddlers (two, now) need a doggie. IMO

Posted by: mindful webworker surrounded by cats at May 22, 2021 02:35 PM (RdIBt)

27 Pet tail two:

While making up the bed a couple of days ago, a mouse ran out from behind the bed. I grabbed Charlie the Gold, threw him in the general direction of where the mouse had run, and told him "Catch the mouse, Charlie!

Mouse!" I'm pretty sure that's in his vocabulary.

I started moving stuff to get at the mouse when I saw its tail dangling from Charlie's mouth. Fast work!

Carried Charlie, mouse in mouth, outside, where he feasted. Much congratulations and pets for doing his job.

More long-winded telling linked in nic.

28 Some day I'll get a pic of our four into this thread...dogs, two pairs, the old ones and the young ones.

Old ones are getting gray, but they're still active.

Scrubbed down two of the pens in the kennel today, moved Peanut back with Dutchess and gave the rescues Musya and Beast each a pen of their own.

32 The Adak photos were a blast from the past! I was there in 1983 and somewhere have some slides of the pet cemetery and national forest (with my sister standing partway in it, the tallest trees are barely 6' tall). That was a neat place, wild and rugged, if you liked the outdoors and didn't mind the weather. The warmest day I ever saw was 62 degrees, IIRC. And sunny days were so rare that the base commander would grant a "sunshine liberty" and non-essential personnel got the day off to enjoy the sun.

36 "Catch the mouse, Charlie!

We used to get skunks in our yard periodically.

Of our four dogs, the elder female barks at everything but then waits for her big boyfriend to come do the dirtywork.

He was sprayed when he was a puppy and has never forgotten, so any skunk he gets in range of ends up a scattering of skunk-guts with a 30ft radius, and he doesn't care what he smells like.

We had a raccoon come into the yard a couple years ago - our four dogs went into full pack-mode, it was hysterical to see our smallest, 15lb rat terrier, drag it down the side yard until I got him off and let the raccoon get away.

Little boy was thrown out of a car somewhere in the Central Valley (CA) and lived rough for a while, he was nasty as hell when we got him and I bled a lot, but I (ahem) persisted and he's a wonderful dude now.

73 You know how dogs hate it when you turn on the vacuum cleaner and cats are not bothered by it at all.

___

Huh?

Our cats hate the vacuum.

You're a spring chicken. Bless you for taking care of your friend. This will all come back to you in ways you can't imagine. And you'll have time for more doggies, each one a special gift.

77 As a kid our German Shepherd Brutus at first hated vacuums, but somehow my mom started vacuuming him and found he loved them. From then on the vacuum got out he got it first.

78 That brindle pit reminds me of Penny. I went to visit my brother in Truckee. He and my SiL are involved with the Humane Society. She was (maybe still is) the President. He had a job, get this, with the town of Truckee at the "pound." The have a "no kill" policy. So they end up foster parenting lots of dogs. I went there to visit and they were fostering this brindle pit bitch. On the last evening there, Penny was being so attentive and loving to me that I said (whiskey was involved) "Let me go home and talk to my wife." Who knew that the Humane Society delivers? My brother and my SiL drove from Truckee to San Diego to bring us Penny. Just loved her so much. Just gorgeous. So protective. My wife was disabled (MS), so a nurse would come to change her superpubic catheter. LOL. If I wasn't there, Penny wouldn't let the nurse get anywhere near my wife. They dropped her off on a Tuesday or a Wednesday. On Friday morning she slips out of her collar and runs off. I gotta go to work. I come back from the walk and tell my wife the sad news.
On Saturday I go to the Joan Kroc / Helen Copley San Diego Animal Shelter (It's a frigging palace). First row, first cage, Penny.

79 So, I go to claim her and they want to charge me for getting her spayed/neutered. I say "No. She's already had that." So, the really sweet woman calls "Sierra Pet Clinic" in Truckee to verify. After discussing this with them she says "Your sister-in-law would like a word with you." My SiL works Saturday mornings for the veterinarian. Penny never ran away again.

81 So, for the next week or two I hear stories from everyone about the cagy dog that Animal Control had a hard time catching. Dogcatcher scene in "Lady and the Tramp" was mentioned. Wanna know where they bagged her? On the porch of one of my neighbors in the building. She knew her way home.

Posted by: JAS, AoSHQ addict at May 22, 2021 03:40 PM (xopIz)

82 I opened the door and looked into the first cage, saw her and said "Oh. There you are."

Everyone in the horde should stop for a minute and try to imagine the lead up to that comment being made. No idea of the truthiness one way or the other.

86 So. Two weeks since I had to let my Max girl go. Does the pain lessen? I'm lucky to still have my Ellie. She gives me so much love, and that helps a LOT.

88 Maybe after being abandoned the doggie will appreciate what it has now. The todlers being there established when the dog is brought back into the family may help the interaction.

90 "truthiness" is not truthfulness. "Truthiness" is the ability of an actor to get you to believe him/her.

We have 'Pet Club' around here, a little bare-bones inside but huge selection and prices are good.

93 Pet Thread!

I was buying some shirts from LLBean and decided to get WD and FSJ a new stuffed toy. Turns out it's the size of WD and way bigger than FSJ, who made a valiant effort of running off with it, but couldn't get it up onto the bed where he likes to "bury" his stuff.

95 Hey, all,

Tragedy at Chez Linda this week. Her long-time feline buddy, Annabelle the Little White Cat, passed away suddenly on Monday. We'll send a pic or two this week. She, Annabelle I mean, had been turned loose along with several other cats in our complex during Katrina, and she was dominating them despite being smaller than nearly all of them. Linda took her in. She hated other cats and resented them being in her space, but she adored humans. My late Siberian Tatiana got into a scuffle with her once and came off on top, and Annabelle was so shocked she spent the night under my bed even though Tati was gone.

We're wondering what kind of gesture we should make to memorialize her. Right now, though, her ashes are in a nice cedar box on my bookshelf, and we're remembering her as she was.

100 CoMountainMarie,

Yes, it gets easier. The sight of Gary's toys doesn't make me cry like it used to but I still miss him. I do have more time for my other two dogs and they enjoy being spoiled. Some pets just really grab your heart.

104 I am going to try a prong collar on my young springer. He's not bad in the woods cause we go there every week. But I can't handle him on the lead. When he gets to the end, he flattens out and pulls as hard as he can. I am hoping this will help. He's not dumb, just wants to smell everything.

A couple of our less-human-friendly garden kitties have taken off for a while, then returned, too. Sounds kind of familiar.

108 Missed this thread, sadly. I got a great new dog "brush" called the zoom broom, made of a sturdy rubber it sort of removes she through a massage, but the shed just flies off. Bogie just lay there enjoying himself and fur looked beautiful after ward. He didn't even try to chew it up, though he could have tried and would have none no damage. It's made by Kong, which also makes those nearly indestructible chew toys.
