Then They Bombed the Tunnels.

Hundreds of Hamas terrorists die of covid-related airstrikes.

Israel used the media to put out the disinformation that Israel was already invading Hamas-controlled territory.

This caused Hamas to seek the protection of their hidey-holes.

But Israel intended this to happen, because their plan was to bomb the tunnels, once filled with Hamas terrorists.

The Israeli military apparently used a brilliant deceptive maneuver to take out Hamas's terrorist fighting force and underground tunnels -- in a single blow.

In what could only be described as killing two birds with one stone, the Israel Defense Forces on Thursday night told news reporters that the Israeli ground forces were on their way to Hamas-held Gaza.
The news spread quickly through the mainstream media and affiliated social media accounts. Believing an Israeli ground invasion to be imminent, Hamas ordered its terrorist fighters to seek shelter in the tunnel network dug up under the Gaza city.
What followed the Hamas mobilization was a massive wave of Israeli airstrikes -- comprising of 160 aircraft -- on the Gaza tunnel network with the jihadi group’s top terror brass sitting underground, right where the IDF wanted them.

The Jerusalem Post seems to imply here that the "foreign press" was all to happy to carry news of Israel's invasion of Hamas-held territory -- because they love depicting Israelis as always attacking peaceful Palestinians.

At midnight, the IDF Spokesperson’s English department tweeted that "IDF air and ground troops are currently attacking in the Gaza Strip." The foreign media jumped at the tweet, interpreting it to mean that Israel was sending ground forces into Gaza, a major escalation in the current operation and a sign that it was far from over.

The media is so predictably, reflexively, robotically anti-semitic that its anti-semitism can be used against them, as well as against the Hamas terrorists the media flacks for.

82 I have questions. I saw the IDF tweet 2 minutes after it was posted. I then saw follow-up tweets by other observers who had received clarifications that no, no ground operation had yet started. I commented on the ONT almost immediately, I think, that the IDF had put out a very ambiguous tweet.

I'm sure the mainstream press "pounced" and got things wrong, but I'm not very confident of the whole spoof/attack idea.

Hamas and affiliated outfits don't rely on press reports for what's happening in northern/eastern Gaza. They obviously have observers and units all over the place. Some engaged in firing on IDF ground forces including armor, according to IDF reports the last few days. They'd know if a ground offensive was under way.

The video footage of the strike area makes clear earth penetrators were used - huge/deep craters. Not something you see when they're just taking out buildings, as they have been doing systematically since this started. So no doubt "the Metro" was heavily damaged.

But I'm skeptical about the overall assumption here.

Britain made the original arrangements from the position of an ally/overlord. They didn't conquer it from the Arabs, they recruited the Arabs to fight on their side in exchange for independence. After the war was won, they attempted to hand over territory that the Arabs believed belonged to them to a new state, thus leading to a "civil war" in the region that the British washed their hands of. I'm a bit fuzzy on the details but I think the above about sums it up.

Well to reframe it, the Arabs wouldn't have objected if the territory had been divided into part of one of the new Arab sovereign countries, likely Jordan in this instance. The Jews there were already living in a state controlled by Muslims, the Ottomans. Arabs expected all this territory to become part of the now independent Arab states.

They viewed it, reasonably, as handing away territory that had been promised to them.

The Arabs fought for the British in WWI with the understanding that the territory would be theirs. The British effectively promised to multiple parties.

British intentions may very well have been to renege on promises to all parties, but the locals were getting frisky.

Regardless, at the end of the day territorial ownership is simply a matter of force. It is understandable why the Arabs were upset (and likewise understandable why everyone in the area was upset when the Brits were still occupying it).

I hold that Japan has always been a special case due to geography. Like Greece and Italy, Japan had a very competitive culture due to cities having mountains behind them for security, and ocean in front for access for trade. Very non-centralized. I've been very impressed with Israel's intelligence capabilities. They seem to know exactly which alley, or car or whorehouse the Pali upper brass is in at any given time via their ability to turn them into mush. I just finished reading several histories of the Sepoy Mutiny, which was characterized by incredible brutality on both sides. The sepoys happily murdered English men, women, and children with abandon, sometimes torturing them extensively first.

Of course, the British hanged a lot of the mutinous sepoys they caught, and blew others from cannons (tying the person over a cannon muzzle, then firing it, a little maneuver the Brits picked up from the Moguls). (The origin of the expression "blown away.")
