I see three ways to interpret this:
1. His poetry is poor (as in not very good) 2. He is poor (as in he has little money) 3. He is poor *because* his poetry is poor Regardless, though, this is an easy problem to solve. Of course his poetry isn't going well enough to support him. He's literally *living* under an umbrella that is opened indoors. It's a black umbrella at that. It's like having a stormcloud above you that rains down bad luck. He could be doing much better with only this very modest change! Looking at this, I can see he is an eclectic fellow who prides his art more than his living quarters. The leak in the roof is conveniently blocked by his umbrella, whilst he gazes into the void attempting to find the perfect closing to his verse. It was TV that killed the radio star, as in old-tyme radio star. Everyone thinks Trevor Horne sang "Put the blame on VCR" but it's "VTR" and MTV wasn't even in the planning stages yet when that song was written.
The whole Buggles album was a sort of high-concept art-rock album about future music and even pop stars being made in labs (the music part has now happened) and how all the "Golden Ages" of radio, TV, theater etc. give way to the "Age of Plastic" "VKtRS" was to illustrate the death of radio when TV came about. I'm not surprised Left-base voters in communist NY are mad at Yang for being soft on the Jews. They are what they are, they believe what they believe, and Jew-bashing is part of the program. But I'm not sure why Dem politicians are coming after him for it. It's something they'd normally do better to ignore, or even tentatively, tepidly support.
Why condemn Yang? Between stuff like this, and their attempt to knife Cuomo recently, I'm getting curious as to what is actually going on in the NY Dem Party. It looks like a power struggle developing, to me. Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at May 13, 2021 09:18 AM (Uh2oA) 329

The Colonial Pipeline debacle is a microcosm of everything wrong with the system in the modern era. You have a company that squeezes the working class for profits that is named after systemic white supremacy that arrogantly falls prey to *other* white supremacists from abroad, further disrupting working classes with women and minorities the primary victims.
And it isn't just Colonial Pipeline that embraces its white supremacist underpinnings in full public view. This attitude is endemic in the petroleum industry. Occidental. Marathon. Continental. It's grotesque. The oil industry should be nationalized. Posted by: Your Kid's Social Policy Professor at May 13, 2021 09:30 AM (Jsjd7) 410

Recent studies indicate CD makes us appear older than we actually are. Posted by: Sock Monkey * acolyte second class, Branch Trumpian Because of the multiple factors that influence reporting, quantitative comparisons of CD safety cannot be made from the data. Quantitative comparisons look at the total number of times an adverse reaction occurs with CD. Some of these factors include the length of time CD is marketed, the market share, size, and sophistication (experience) of the sales force, publicity about a side effect and regulatory actions. In some cases, the reported clinical data is incomplete and there is no certainty that CD caused the reported reaction. A given reaction may be due to an underlying disease process or to another coincidental factor. This underlying disease process means a reaction is not caused just by CD, but by the disease. Authorities in the eastern state of Bihar have set up a net across the Ganges River after scores of bodies of suspected COVID-19 victims washed up on the banks earlier this week, CNN reported. There are growing concerns that poorer people are resorting to placing bodies in rivers as India's crematoria are overwhelmed and the cost of cremations has soared.

- though #34 and #99 came close: 4. He spent all his money on books, which were much more expensive in those days. He owns quite a few, they're in pretty good condition, and most of them are huge. Collected works of all the Latin poets? By the way, I assume that's his own not-yet-published manuscripts piled up front left, and a rough draft that didn't make the cut sitting in the stove ready to provide some heat.
