Unexpectedly, Inflation Soars

You mean dropping in trillions upon trillions of phantom dollars into the economy while paying people to not produce services and goods will cause prices to rise?

Inflation is soaring in the United States and at a higher rate than analysts predicted. In April 2021, the consumer price index saw a 4.3 percent jump, the fastest increase since 2008.

"Inflation accelerated at its fastest pace in more than 12 years for April as the U.S. economic recovery kicked into gear and energy prices jumped higher, the Labor Department reported Wednesday. The Consumer Price Index, which measures a basket of goods as well as energy and housing costs, rose 4.2% from a year ago, compared to the Dow Jones estimate for a 3.6% increase. The monthly gain was 0.8%, against the expected 0.2%," CNBC reports. "Excluding volatile food and energy prices, the core CPI increased 3% from the same period in 2020 and 0.9% on a monthly basis. The respective estimates were 2.3% and 0.3%."

I saw a joke headline somewhere that read, "Biden to Spend Two Trillion Dollars to Discover What Causes Inflation."

It's funny. It's funny and it's true.

Look at this gorgeously Weimarian, Venezualianish spike in prices:

49 "Inflation" used to mean money supply ... in current usage they are speaking of price inflation. Many things are still pretty cheap, and the "money" has been in stocks and real estate .. so the rich got richer. ... Now that they started throwing money to the working poor, AND stopped them from producing, other prices are starting to inflate.

Also, as people start to think all the money printing will make their dollars worthless, they want to buy real stuff instead of saving dollars.

Lots of factors at work, including the globalist dream of a global (digital/crypto?) currency that they control covertly, saving the world from sovereign rights.

No need for banks even then, to lend to people that are a good credit risk (good business plan, solid collateral) ... nope ... the Woke have social credit, the MAGA people have their wealth stolen (for their past racism and current thought crimes)...

Inflation is baked in the cake. Stagflation 2.0, monetary bugger-you (and Misery and Malaise ) are locked in. As Milton Friedman famously said, inflation is every and always a monetary phenomenon, and it is too much money chasing too few goods.

The Fed has been printing like a crazy person since the '08 Crisis. All that money is now getting out of just propping up the stock markets and the bad debt (mortages) and out into the consumer goods economy.

They make money off of the fees for the refi and dump the mortgage guarantee to Fannie or Freddie (or other guarantor).

Due to the time value of money, money in fees now is better than more money from fixed interest in the future so even your current mortgage holder might be willing to refi.

This time, however, the Fed is not going to stop inflation, as Paul Volcker did. To do that, you have to tighten money, raising interest rates to astronomical levels, which causes a recession. The recession around '80 was pretty bad, and that was the effect of Volcker tightening. He held the course and killed inflation.

At times the fed funds rate ticked over 20%. The Fed simply cannot do that now, because it will destroy the federal govt, now at about $29T total debt. Hell, 5% much less 20% short term rates would destroy Uncle.

And the Fed would also destroy itself. If it started tightening, it would start a cascade destroying the value of it's own balance sheet, the assets that it creates money against. It would be royally fucked.

So, they're just going to keep the printers going and let inflation explode.

They will try to hide it, changing the CPI calculations and all that to make it go away. And soon, I expect our tech oligarchs will be censoring any mention of inflation.

But it is the Conservative Party in the UK that seems to have benefited the most. They have almost destroyed Labour, and they did it by following the Trump plan. We only got four years and most of that was a fight for survival.

Sure the "conservatives" are poofs in many ways. Sure they gave up on universal healthcare and "climate change" But While Trump pushed back against the radical Left, The Tories have enjoyed victory after victory. They basically did the Trump strategy, they have made massive inroads into "working class" areas of the UK, places that don't hate themselves and their country. Yeah I am bitter. I see the Tories winning over and over, as they have, but we still have all against us, including false friends.

190 187 the funny the part is that Jenner the Bruce now holds all the women's records in the olympic decathlon.

* * *

There is no Olympic women's decathlon. Before 1981, the closest thing the women had was the pentathlon, a 5-event competition. After that, and up until the last Olympics, women had the heptathlon, a 7-event competition. There is currently a campaign underway to get a women's decathlon put into the 2024 Olympics, but so far there isn't one.

If you compare Jenner's best times/scores in the decath events to the records held by the women in the individual sports, he only comes out at the number one spot in one --the 400 meters.

But since there has been no such thing as a women's Olympic decathlon winner until Bruce, he's still the best (and only) one!

194 We don't have hyperinflation ... 3% is actually their goal, but they expect it to "run a little hot" now since it has been so low for a long time. Whether they can control all these trillions and not have inflation or other bad outcomes ... idk.

BUT what they have done is basically made us "communist" .. government spends another ten trillion on anything they want, they are buying corporate bonds (not to mention BigGov/BigCorp alliances, free Gov research/subsidies) ... No need to win elections on sound fiscal policy ... just promise free everything for everyone ... and print it.

However it explodes/implodes or just muddles along, much more power is in the hands of DC Big Spenders, which is a move toward "communism" (the real kind, not the Utopian dreams, because we already see what goons are doing to patriots and our sovereign rights).

Are we going to get hyperinflation? I don't think so. That's a total detonation of the currency, where you forget about inflation rates and speak of monetary half-life, or the time for the price level to double. Post war Hungary holds the record, with a doubling time of 15.7 hours. Prices doubled in less than day.

Weimar, the most famous hyperinflation of them all, is only number 4 or so on that list, with a doubling time of 3 days or so.

The reason we've gotten away with our fiscal and monetary insanity is because the dollar is the world's reserve currency. We were king after WWII, and our guys set it up that way. Told them this is how its going to be.

Second, all the other Western govts and the other big players, have been doing running their printers just as fast as we have. The ECB, BoE, BoJ, all of them. They've been printing euro, pounds, and yen like crazy as well.

So I don't think a dollar hyperinflationary implosion will occur, but a global inflationary depression is a possibility.

267 > And yet, it's probably going to replace fiat money, because unlike fiat money, you can't print more endlessly. The quantity is finite by design.

I honestly don't understand how it's supposed to work as it gets less and less profitable to mine. You have to do more and more work and you get less money out. But the blockchain doesn't exist without someone coming up with a solution that records the latest transactions. Already, only nation-states like China are mining bitcoins because everyone else is making bupkis on hundreds of thousands in equipment and just as much in electricity. How does that continue when even China isn't making any money off of mining?

270 Bitcoin is a threat to the movement to convert fiat to digital which is then controlled by the central banks, called Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). As part of the great reset they are developing the technology to create universal income so you cede all control of your assets and will only be allotted a fixed income a month that is handed to you by the central bank via digital currency.

Bing on that a bit more if you'd like to engage in some reading material that will give you nightmares for the rest of your life and convinced the Antichrist is about to take over.

Posted by: The Maskless Ranger at May 12, 2021 05:47 PM (bh39Y)

271 USD went full fiat, but there is a military and it is universally accepted, whereas BitCoin is still mostly a trading vehicle (in a huge Bubble). ... I'm not so sure it survives, or would be allowed to displace a currency made by a government. ... some say it has to crash again, then it becomes real (following dotcom stocks, crash, then the winners emerged, and rule the world)

the thing is is, even if the US triws to quash crypto, if the russians and chicom disagree it is going to be fine.

besides the America haters have to decide, would they rather destroy the $ or crypto more?

Colonial has not paid the ransom. They are working to rebuild their IT system using backup files. I think this means reports were correct that one or more of Colonial's business-side (non-pipeline control) IT systems was hacked, and Colonial shut-down the completely separate pipeline control IT system to increase protection from it being hacked, too. Since they are re-starting, Colonial must be confident their existing pipeline IT system is as secure as it can be, or they made changes to bring it up to ? level of being considered hack-proof.

The "global" answer to this is to go off the US Dollar as the World's reserve currency. As part of the Great Reset, a global digital currency will be created as the world's reserve currency.
You may be given a choice of exchanging your "dollars" for the digital currency, which we will call a
"Xiden", just for laughs.
And when the dollar ceases to be the worlds reserve currency, this country is going to see really rampant inflation, and all those "dollars" that we might have saved (like in your 401k or IRA) will lose a lot of their value.

Inflation would be over 10% now per the pre-'80 method, and around 6% using the pre-90 method.

See shadow govt. stats if interested. The major driver for the '90ish change was reducing COLAs for social security. It was easier to lie about inflation than cut those COLAs.

454 398 Here's the nightmare scenario. The government is now responsible for an all time high 34% of people's income. All this spending has artificially inflated demand and push it forward. Once the music stops, corporate earnings are going to dive and undermine the market and co Sumer confidence. We've already lost some of the advances Trump made, and with Democrats plan for higher taxes and spending BOHICA. A few weeks ago I was predicting a year end S and P ~4K. We will be licky now for 3.6

And Uncle Joe and his Gang are working to get even more people dependent on Fed dollars - universal pre-K, guaranteed child care, and more. So when the crunch comes from the interest rate increase on the debt, and every discretionary dollar is cut from the Fed Budget, but that still does not square the budget circle, the Feds can and will have to pretty much decide who eats and who doesn't, who gets medical care and who doesn't, and so on. Republicans? They go hungry and get no more MediCare treatment and care.

I did a quick run through and agree in general with what they have to say. i have a feeling these lists will become all too commonplace. These men have every right to state their opinions. But I personally don't like the general idea of saying "as a blank" my opinion means more. I have to be honest here, i just bashed the fake Repubs for doing that. Again they have a right to their opinions, and I agree with most of them. My concern now is we have lost so much of the country that it wont matter all that much. it is time for real change, the military, corporations, the media, the schools, the internet. I am hoping but not hopeful.

i see the Brits are doing better than we are. Trump predicted their victories but couldn't secure follow ups for himself. This country has truly gone pear shaped in many ways.

458 One word of caution. For sure, the endless government spending has fueled inflation. However, supply chains were severely disrupted because the government mandated that they shut down.

It's taking them a lot to catch up and rebuild. You just can't turn off and turn on supply chains like you can an electric light.

A lot of the inflation is being caused by bottlenecks in the supply chain. For example, in the lumber industry timber is still cheap to buy-but there aren't enough sawmills to turn it into lumber. It's awfully hard to build a new sawmill overnight. Even if you could, how do you know demand will stay robust? What if it crashes just as you get up and running? You will lose a lot of money.

Same goes for an oil refinery, a paper plant, a meatpacking plant and on and on.
