16 Willowed.
So apparently there has been some "controversy" about an old Spider-man cover art. Its a Mary Jane cover. Some tumblr loser "fixed" it because "women don't actually sit like that", and the original artist seeing this fix go viral offered real criticism of the shit job, and fixed the fix.

I bring all this up because Anna, That Star Wars Girl chose to cover it. And she did a cosplay cover of the original image. And well if you're not aware of who TSWG is, you're welcome. It involves her in a white, somewhat low cut top.

Without knowing specs or details, for a mini split, that sounds completely off the chain ridiculous. Average retail on those that I've seen run no more than $4k installed. Some of the lower powered, no name versions run just over $1,500, but they'll heat or cool a twelve by twelve room.

Is the contractor claiming some special difficulty or engineering in the installation part of the job?

152 One more comical gas-related post:

There are lots of effort to shame people into not buying gas after they heard that there was a shortage, with the reasoning being - no joke - this probably won't last more than five or six days, two weeks tops. Maybe. Probably.

The best part? The official press release from the pipeline company:

"While this situation remains fluid and continues to evolve, the Colonial operations team is executing a plan that involves an incremental process that will facilitate a return to service in a phased approach."

Read it again. The situation is unknown and continues to change, we've got a plan that potentially allows us to maybe take a step or two forward in a way that might help us begin to return services in multiple stages.

Yeah, way to tamp down the panic buying, guys.

Stranger's vehicles get alerts

202 One often overlooked strategy for surviving societal breakdown is mapping out which neighbors near you are weak and unable to defend their stores of food, weapons and gasoline.

Having poorly defended neighbors with a healthy supply of food is every bit as good as having extra supplies of your own. In effect, they double your cold storage for perishables.

We had a $140 or so Shark we got from Costco that lasted for 6-7 years and did great, but when the motor went out we just picked up something cheap to get the job done before we had company and it has been absolutely fantastic. I think we gave just over $60 for it on sale:

Eureka Powerspeed

It feels cheap because it is, but it has great vacuuming ability. If I can get two or three years out of it I'll be more than satisfied.

Ok, so the belt that turns the brush head runs inside a track behind a plastic plate held to the bottom of the unit. The belt chamber evidently is under suction. When I smelled the burnt hair and noticed the brush was not turning, I opened the bottom up and yep, the belt area was packed with fur- burnt fur, I might add. Pulled out a large amount of hair and let the thing cool down, but evidently the belt got stretched as the brush head will not turn anymore. I could replace the belt, but would just run into the same problem.

Sidebar: I remember reading one review where a guy had complained of the issue, but there were no other similar reviews. It was specific, so I should have fricking listened or checked after the first use.

Compare these to a 1960s Singer, Electrolux, Kirby or Rainbow. Damn, but those machines were Garands and Springfields of the vacuum world as it was found, then. Absolute tanks of near indestructium. Guess what we've got now, is Planned Obselecence, squared.

295 Birbs love dropping shit, it totally floats their boats. They just love watching shit fall. The little retarded cockatiel I had in college (actually he was whip smart) totally got into dropping shit.

Since I was in art school, I had found these big super-duty cardboard tubes they used for casting concrete columns to use in a project. They were between 4-6' long, and I had them standing in the kitchen nook. The birb would grab shit (anything he could carry) fly up to the tallest ones, and drop the pen, pencil, ruler, sock whatever down the tube. And he'd looook, his little crest going up and down. Wonder if he was trying to figure out how deep they were, but he was totally fascinated by the things.

We use a Shark Rocket Duo. Belt is not exposed. We like it.

There is a roller with comb to catch fur. It's gets a goodly bit. Some gets on the brush bristles. Some gets to the canister.

The belt is enclosed and drives a spline that marries up with the brush. No burned a belt in several years of use.

Posted by: Jordan61 at May 11, 2021 07:48 PM (s9fsa)

For about the first 20 years of their existence, the battery was designed to die about 2-3 weeks after the warranty expired. We went through 3 of the things, and the battery always crapped out. I think Roomba would still be screwing people with the unreplaceable batteries, if it weren't for cheaper competition coming out with replaceable batteries. And to be fair, battery technology has improved a shitload in the last few years. I have some competitive brand (the new ones actually vacuum) and it's going on 2 years now, which is a record.

I've owned several Dysons ever since they were introduced. 1 was a dog (the ball vac) the others serviceable. Pros: Company support - they just send out the part no matter the age. Cons: Pretty much garbage. Crap always breaking and falling off. After my big D, I had a Dyson Animal that was not doing so well. I bought a very inexpensive Shark (I'd bought one for my mom who also had 2 Dysons), it does circles around the Dyson. A few things aren't quite as ergonomic (the empty tab for bucket is on bottom instead of top like Dyson) but otherwise quieter, more suction, lighter, easier to use. YMMV.

My only concern is that the Harris administration is trying to think of a way to blame the gas shortage on all us Terrible Trumpistas, and then kick in the doors. sadly that seems more likely than violating Russian or Dirkadirkastan national territory to give a lesson on not messing around with Jim.

I don't know what the official shelf-life for the good ol' non-ethanol gas is, but as I mentioned it would last well over a year and be just fine in trucks and larger tanks.

Now, in small engines with small tanks, it seemed a little bit would go bad faster. Before ethanol, generally, I'd smell inside the tank, and if smelled bad I'd pour it out and put new in and it would crank and run fine. If there was just a little bit left in, topping it off with good gas would do fine.

Here, they take gas and paint, but the paint has to be dried (they say to mix it with kitty litter and spread it out or something like that). They won't take oil, but the auto parts shops do.

I don't know what they'll do with contaminated oil, of which I have some, and which the auto parts places won't touch. I'm also not a chemistryologist or anything, but I'm pretty sure oil doesn't just evaporate, so not sure why they'd say to let it evaporate.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Gov. Eric Holcomb has vetoed a bill that would require additional labeling for Indiana gas pumps that distribute E15, a fuel blend that contains up to 15% ethanol in gasoline.

GOP state Sen. Mark Messmer, who authored the bill, did not immediately comment on the veto. He previously said the measure is intended to protect Hoosiers from putting the wrong fuel in their vehicles.

Ethanol creators from nearly a dozen Indiana ethanol plants disagreed, lobbying the governor to veto the bill in a letter sent to his office earlier this month. They argued that the proposal would confuse consumers and "destroy demand for E15 and Indiana corn."

Companies do purchase fuel from other competitors if they cannot meet demands and add their additives to it. I can tell you for a fact that Chevron with Techroline is the same fuel you purchase at a Unocal or Union 76 station. Chevron actually bought the name techroline from Conoco-Phillips/Unocal/76 back in the day. 76 just calls it something different now and is the same quality.

547 Stuff you learn from the Intarwebs:

You may have encountered the term "bowser" for a mobile fuel tank (used to refill planes, military equipment, and the like).

This comes from Sylvanus Bowser, the guy who invented the first practical fuel-dispensing pump, originally used for kerosene lamp fuel.

He is now staying with them on the top floor of their factory and has a new buddy, a toothless old tom. They sent me a picture of them snoozing in the same cat bed. He looks much happier there.

I honestly didn't get a good look at "my" cat until he was in the cat crate. He is a gorgeous longhair cat. Oh well...
