  • AMD's upcoming Rembrandt APU will feature 8 Zen 3+ cores and 12 RDNA2 GPU cores with support for PCIe 4.0, USB 4, and DDR 5 on TSMC's 6nm process unless it doesn't. (WCCFTech)

The two big changes are the much faster integrated GPU, and the much faster DDR5 memory support to match. One isn't really much good without the other. AMD hasn't released PCIe 4.0 for laptop parts yet because of the increased power consumption, so this will be the first part with that as well.

These are expected to arrive early next year for both laptops and desktops, with the updated Zen 4 desktop CPUs coming later in the year. Both will require new motherboards, because DDR5 memory uses a different socket. (Not unreasonable since it runs twice as fast.)

Straight Zen 3+ CPUs have reportedly been cancelled, but this will combine Zen 3 CPU cores with RDNA 2 graphics for the first time. The new Xbox and PlayStation consoles have RDNA 2 graphics but use the older Zen 2 cores.

High School Romantic Comedy Video of the Derp

(This is showing with a broken thumbnail for me here, but it plays just fine.)

I like this series because the characters aren't idiots, they just keep falling into the gap between knowing what to do and actually doing it.

1 Watching the Dirty Pair video from yesterday I noted how clean the video was, and wondered if there had been a Blu-Ray release of the series, and indeed there has been. TV, OVA, movies, and Dirty Pair Flash as well. Japan only, I believe.

3 Watching Girls Und panzer on Crunchyroll a choice was Upotte, kind of a rip off in school girls use real firearms ( and get named by them kind of)Toronto each other figuratively.
Lots of real information on the Rifles like ranges, ballistics.
But it's bizarre to watch.

7 Peak web?
I find there's a lot more stuff to look at online. But about the only thing better then when I first went online in 2004 is I no longer have to do a dial up modem to get online.

8 Crunchyroll is a pain in lots of same commercials in them and touching screen seems to send you back into them they have to play out before getting to the show.

And only 3% of the Earth's land area is densely populated. The definition of that is somewhat fuzzy, but in this case, the odds of some random space junk hitting some heavily populated area is pretty small.

21 That "Peak Web" article was interesting. Seems a lifetime ago when I got my first apple laptop in college - the first full color 180c that was like 7 inches narrow, not even a full sheet of paper. And then email was AOL. I still have my first hotmail account from 1997, dont use but its still there. All those CDs we'd get in the mail with the newest online gig (Netscape, compuserve, etc). I agree entirely - our (definitely my) web enjoyments are a fraction of what they once were. So much for progress.

The internet has been debauched from its original goals, we pay to get access to sh*t we actively do not want that impeded our ability to get to what we need.

The equivalent would have been a telephone that randomly called people near what you wanted and relied on you navigating through 5 callers to get to the target of your call.

Yeah, that pipeline thing: I'm quite sure their internal IT people didn't want it connected to the internet, but, the IT contractors hired said they could secure it and the bosses said, "Make it so."

-------------

Years, maybe decades ago, William Pipeline Company had capacity they were not using, so, they had the bright idea of using their pipelines for fiber and invented a machine for pulling the cable. They turned into a major player for the fiber network.

No idea Williams Pipeline is still a major player, but, I thought it was a brilliant use of existing infrastructure.

35 Well, on my daily visit to Hacker News and Maoist Recruiting Inc. web site, there were all the sanctimonious posts about security from all the people there who want to drive the oilfield out of business to begin with...

Well, guess what... if you spend two decades trying to drive an industry out of business you wind up with an entire industry full of people who cut corners on maintenance. Physician, look in the mirror.

(Further comment about Maoist recruiting service typed and deleted).

Yeah, showing that when you hire a couple of Chinese non-citizens and make them admins of your database being disconnected from the net isn't much of a defense.

42 I got my Lenovo M10 yesterday. I we t through all the setup crap, turning off all the reports to the mothership, and gotbthe wifi connected. The thing downloaded a system update, and askefbif i wanted to apply it. Seemed like the thing to do, so I said yes.

After a couple of reboots the damn thing bricked itself, couldn't even get to the recovery console. Eventually I was able to get their PC app up and did a full reflash with the latest code and it recovered. Then I had to go through the setup again...

I'm glad it was recoverable, 'cause good luck getting tech support, nothing available but forums.

43 I hate anime -- those big eyes are creepy. Seems a waste of time and energy when live actors can portray a story quickly and realistically.

I wish that Steven den Beste had given more time to writing about our culture and politics before he died than to spend his talent on anime. His insights were profound and terrifyingly prophetic.

Yikes. Mine also wanted to do an update, but it all went smoothly. Glad you were at least able to recover with the app. And it's good that they have that app.

Posted by: Pixy Misa at May 09, 2021 02:15 PM (MqQvv)

47 Pixy - Yup, good they had the app., 'cause tech support is pretty much nonexistent. And good thing I knew what I was doing.

I recommend the app, simple and worked well. It also offered backup to the PC, which is good as there is no way i would trust "teh cloud" with even storing my favorites list.

No idea why it blew up, there isn't much a user can do to screw up an android tablet with no hardware power switch.
