The Morning Rant - Misanthropic Edition

MisanHumrant (1).jpg

***

The workforce of the USA has been turned upside down since March 2020 due to the Chinese Kung Flu and the inept "Smart People". Yes, Anthony Fauci I'm directing that at you.

Now, the big employers are fed up and want to "return to normal". The problem is we are never going to return to normal.

Mondelez International Inc., the maker of Ritz Crackers and Trident gum, wants to start welcoming workers back to office this summer, though with a caveat -- they must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

It’s a thorny issue for many companies as some workers are hesitant about getting the shots, and Mondelez hasn’t finalized its plan. Yet for Chief Executive Officer Dirk Van De Put, vaccines are a way to ensure safety while restoring workplace culture and camaraderie.

“We want to create an environment where you feel comfortable and it’s like it used to be at the office,” he said in a Bloomberg Television interview April 28. “We can only do that if everybody’s vaccinated.”

When I'm not slaving away at the Ace Media Empire, AceCorp, LLC and Mis. Hum. Enterprises I work for a rather large corporation. My employer required everyone to work from home unless they were department managers and wanted to work from the office.

So the employer has come out with the following: You can return to work at the office as of July 1st if you have had been used as a guinea pig and have been vaccinated against the Kung Flu. However before entering the building you must complete a daily questionnaire and it has to be submitted to HR.

Let me describe our office, can you say open concept and cubicle farms? Sure I knew you could. The employer mandate says you do not have to wear a face diaper while at your desk. However, if you leave your desk you are supposed to follow CDC Guidelines including wearing that damn mask.

Hold on a minute, if I'm vaccinated and I answer the questionnaire that I'm healthy why in the hell should I wear a mask? Oh and by the way, should I stay 3' away from a co-worker or 6' away?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is updating K–12 school guidance to reflect the latest science on physical distance between students in classrooms. CDC now recommends that, with universal masking, students should maintain a distance of at least 3 feet in classroom settings. CDC has updated its operational strategy to say:

In elementary schools, CDC recommends all students remain at least 3 feet apart in classrooms where mask use is universal — regardless of whether community transmission is low, moderate, substantial, or high.
In middle and high schools, CDC also recommends students should be at least 3 feet apart in classrooms where mask use is universal and in communities where transmission is low, moderate, or substantial.
Middle school students and high school students should be at least 6 feet apart in communities where transmission is high, if cohorting is not possible. Cohorting is when groups of students are kept together with the same peers and staff throughout the school day to reduce the risk for spread throughout the school. This recommendation is because COVID-19 transmission dynamics are different in older students – that is, they are more likely to be exposed to SARS-CoV-2 and spread it than younger children.
The updated Operational Strategy for K-12 Schools through Phased Prevention is part of CDC’s existing resources for K–12 schools to open and remain open for in-person instruction during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since release of the Operational Strategy on February 12, 2021, CDC has continually reviewed the evolving evidence on SARS-CoV-2 transmission in K–12 schools, as well as the latest science on the effectiveness of different prevention strategies within schools. The updated guidance complements CDC’s existing guidance, resources, and tools for K–12 schools.

Three studies, published in today’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR), also address spread of SARS-CoV-2 in schools. Taken together, these studies build on evidence that physical distancing of at least 3 feet between students can safely be adopted in classroom settings where mask use is universal and other prevention measures are taken.

“CDC is committed to leading with science and updating our guidance as new evidence emerges,” said CDC Director Rochelle P. Walensky. “Safe in-person instruction gives our kids access to critical social and mental health services that prepare them for the future, in addition to the education they need to succeed. These updated recommendations provide the evidence-based roadmap to help schools reopen safely, and remain open, for in-person instruction.”

These updated recommendations are specific to students in classrooms with universal mask wearing.

CDC continues to recommend at least 6 feet of distance:

Between adults in the school building and between adults and students.
In common areas, such as school lobbies and auditoriums.

Damn, I just want to get rid of a cup of coffee to get a new one. Lot of guessing what I should do on my way to the commons area.

But is the CDC to be trusted? Or do you trust an institution of higher learning who has been researching this social distancing Bull Shit? According to MIT being 6' away from someone may not be enough. You may need 60'.

The risk of being exposed to Covid-19 indoors can be as great at 60 feet as it is at 6 feet in a room where the air is mixed — even when wearing a mask, according to a new study by Massachusetts Institute of Technology researchers who challenge social distancing guidelines adopted across the world.

MIT professors Martin Z. Bazant, who teaches chemical engineering and applied mathematics, and John W.M. Bush, who teaches applied mathematics, developed a method of calculating exposure risk to Covid-19 in an indoor setting that factors in a variety of issues that could affect transmission, including the amount of time spent inside, air filtration and circulation, immunization, variant strains, mask use, and even respiratory activity such as breathing, eating, speaking or singing.

Our company's return policy is voluntary, at least as I write this. As we get closer to the opening date who knows.

It's time to return to normal and that means sucking it up buttercups and allowing employees to return to work not wearing face diapers. It means allowing people to travel for their jobs. Sure Zoom and virtual meetings are good substitutes but there is nothing better than face to face interaction in most business settings.

Oh and speaking of our great federal government and the Kung Flu vaccine. The resident of the White House and his band of grifters are considering f*cking over Big Pharma. Hey Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson, you know those patents you have? Well, we want to suspend those.

As vaccinations continue to roll out around the world we’ve heard plenty of complaints about how some countries are lagging far behind the wealthier nations where most of these vaccines were developed and are being produced. This has resulted in understandable requests for countries like the United States to more quickly begin sending more doses to those nations that are in need. Unfortunately, we’re cranking these vaccines out about as quickly as is physically possible already. One solution that’s been proposed is to allow other companies around the world to start producing their own using the scientific breakthroughs achieved by companies like Pfizer and Moderna, but that would run afoul of their patents and intellectual property rights. Never fear, socialists. President Joe Biden is endorsing a plan put forward by the World Health Organization to simply “pause” those patents and let other companies run with the ball. The American pharmaceutical companies are not fans of the idea, to say the least.

Rule of law? Oh hell no. We are a global community and to hell with private property and intellectual property. Some might snicker about Big Pharma getting screwed over by the feds. Just remember if they can screw large corporations they certainly can screw you over.

Speaking of face diapers and virtue signaling. Fill in your own caption with this one. Perhaps, Mr. Kamala needs to block Willie breath.

In terms of the game that we're actually playing, the exercise of raw power, I find this really satisfying. Big Pharma played games right before the election to weaken Trump, and this is what they're getting from Biden?

There is precedent for this, both the breaking of pharma patents *and* the US knuckling under on that topic.

Why is reimportation of drugs (say, from India) often radically cheaper and thus banned? Because of foreign state action. India (notable for doing this) will tell a manufacturer, "You sell this on the open market for $25 a dose. We'll give you $0.50 a dose. If you don't sell at that price, we'll break your patent and manufacture it domestically." So the manufacturer sells at that price, because the United States government does nothing to protect their property rights. The US should, when that happens, immediately embargo the other country or tax the shit out of all trade with them until they back down.

Instead, we let it happen. We'll let this happen, too.

Yet for the entire last year-plus I've been going into the building 3-4 days per week because I have to ("business-essential"). Now if I've had to be on the premises over the last year unvaccinated, and all of the sudden they require a vaccine to be at work... inconsistency anyone? Also, the execs are suddenly talking about "office of the future"... in other words, they want to unload real-estate and reduce their office footprint to save dollars. So short-sighted; almost every one of my fellow employees has expressed their frustration with the current state (large percentages of co-workers at home, hard to reach, inefficiencies, etc...). A smart competitor is going to move to 100% WFH (and save on the physical office overhead) and drain off talent.

Similarly, the Olympics have *always* had a corruption problem, but when they so shamelessly rigged the Beijing Games, that was it.

I can watch pro wrestling and enjoy it, because nobody is trying to pretend it's a real athletic event. The Olympics is just ersatz sports.

Once upon a time it was the position of the GOP that protecting drug patents was the right thing to do. Even at the cost of overseas markets, drug companies were allowed to market their drugs in the U.S., at prices that allowed them to recoup their costs for research and development, and the border was enforced with an iron fist. No foreign imports of the ripoff versions of these drugs.

Now? I don't think Big Pharma manufactures anything here anymore. It's all foreign ripoff, just with the Big Pharma label right on the pills and bottles.

138 ... Once upon a time it was the position of the GOP that protecting drug patents was the right thing to do. Even at the cost of overseas markets, drug companies were allowed to market their drugs in the U.S., at prices that allowed them to recoup their costs for research and development, and the border was enforced with an iron fist. No foreign imports of the ripoff versions of these drugs. ...

That was the wrong answer to the problem. Forbidding reimportation ensured that we took it in the shorts for the misbehavior of foreign governments threatening to violate American firms' intellectual property rights. It let the pharma companies not go bankrupt and let the foreigners misbehave and it all worked out except for we Americans who got subsidize the rest of the world's misbehavior.

The right answer would have been ratcheting trade war with the foreign malefactors.

139 you know, I'm real sorry if you know someone who died of COVID, or had it and now can't walk up a flight of stairs without a coronary thrombosis, or whatever horror story you want to tell me.

But I'm pretty sure I had it last March, and I'm 100% sure I've been exposed to it a few times since then IF asymptomatic transmission of this virus is a thing which I'm not even convinced of.

I'm not getting vaccinated against something that can apparently barely get in the front door against my immune system, by taking a rushed, no-liability vaccine shot created by companies I don't trust at the insistence of a government I fear and despise. I'll social distance because I don't want to be that close to you anyway, and I'll wear a mask indoors so the person at Home Depot or the grocery store making $12/hr doesn't have to remind me of the store policy and feel like an asshole.

But that's it. Social niceties are as far as I'm going.

I'll be shocked if my company EVER relaxes the pathetic mask mandate.

Worst part is, they send us all an email every time someone that was at work tests positive and claim they'll alert anyone that was "in close contact" with the Covid positive worker. Here's the thing - by definition, "close contact" requires you to be closer than 6' without a mask. Well, guess what, you're NOT ALLOWED to be closer than 6' from anyone without a mask, so, by deduction... nobody has ever been in close contact. Liability solved.

You see, it's an ironclad RULE that you never violate the "close contact" guidance, or you would be subject to discipline.

When someone's life or health is at stake, people tend to be more cautious. This is not something like making people stop calling it China Flu.

Ironically, materialists are the most anal about it as they view their life as the only one they have.

The truth is that most government power rests on illusions that are widely adopted and not direct coercion. When the illusion shatters, massive unrest generally follows. In other words, coercion works until it doesn't and then the predators become the prey.

285 Why folks with low risk are getting the jab?

The vax has even lower risk of harm than the virus...and getting the vax can only be a help, not a hurt, for society. I mean, maybe it's useless, but then you haven't lost anything. But maybe it's not, and then you and society have gained greatly.

Not to mention, on top of the societal good and the possible "tiny" personal good for those "low risk" who get it, it's also an example of whom do you trust? The Chinese for what they say the virus is, or the US profit-based companies and scientists who say and made what the vax is?

For now, I pick capitalism and scientists/health care who jabbed themselves 1st. If they are wrong, they already have skins in the game to correct the wrongness later.

The cheating was relegated to a handful of locations, and the presidential election allowed for focused cheating. The mail in aspect was heavily taken advantage of because of fear that won't exist next year. The GOPe was happy to go along to get rid of Trump, but they know now that they have to deliver next year if they want to continue as a going concern in the political world. There's also the base that knows it got cheated and isn't willing to pick up arms yet, hoping to see redress through the means we've become accustomed to over the past 250 years.

2022 should be a good year, especially if we can scare state level GOP legislatures to take action on election integrity in key states.

324 269 DB,
That is a distortion of at will employment law. In reality, the laws regarding personnel are a complex mix of state and federal law. As noted above, OSHA has already weighed in with guidance that makes companies requiring it as a work issue will have to report adverse consequences to the jab. Thus, you get into a complex of workmen's comp, class action lawsuits, state laws regarding what can and cannot be mandated, etc. The emergency authorization for the COVID vaccine also means that the company cannot rely on the safe harbor of FDA approval. Then, there is the ADA problem with people with known allergies and/or religious objections to the jab.

This is going to be a state by state issue, with the federal government putting its oar in, as well as local regulations.
In other words, a thicket that no sane company will do unless the laws are changed to give them safe harbor. The only exception may be the health care industry which has its own unique thicket of laws including those of conscience exemptions.

Graduation is outdoors, btw. They are blaming NYSDOH "guidelines". But nothing compels the school district to obey them, so it's voluntary. I'm pretty sure some pitchforks and long knives are coming out for this. There seems to be a lot of growing resistance to the vaccine, and this is just another coercion to get kids who don't need the vaccine, vaccinated. There's going to be a very big F You contingent.

I'm not so sure. Elections don't matter, so they can remain in power for the next several cycles. If they are worried about anything, it's unrest or rebellion and I don't see that within the next five years.

Dictatorships - and that is what we have now - don't care about "political capital" in any traditional democratic sense. Dictatorships worry about unrest, rebellion and revolution. (They also do care about balancing their allies and what those allies cost, but that is a different form of political capital and the people don't enter into the equation.)

Local elections likely still matter depending on the state. Ditto with state elections.

But President and major offices like probably Senate elections in many states? That shit doesn't matter. They'll steal it. And if they manage to lose (doubtful), they demonstrated under Trump that they'll just do what they want anyway at the Federal level.

Those "border Democrats" might indeed get voted out and lose their lucrative rice bowls (depends on the state), but it won't have any consequence on the power structure.

375 Joe Mannix,

We don't have the classic dictatorship, what we have is essentially an oligarchy where several different power centers want different things. The rich oligarchs want to stay rich, the identity groups want money and power, the big biz wants profits, and so on. The incoherent governing policies that we see is hashed out inefficiently by committee. The Argentinian or Greek military dictatorships ran similarly by committee and despite their authoritarianism, failed to produce a stable and effective governing structure. A modest autocracy can last if the members restrain their appetites and work for the public good. This is not that.

Most vaccines long term effects usually show within the 1st 6 months.

And no one knows the long term effects of getting Covid. Now that it's a known gain of function virus, is it's only gain of function transmittability, or does it also have (as one example of thousands) a gain of function that allows it to exist (either in hiding or openly in the body) and to continue to attack the body periodically over the years, ala herpes simplex? Maybe the Chinese will tell us one day what they did to a simple corona virus. I'll probably be 503 when that happen.

411 I think the point is every person needs to individually weigh the risk. If you have certain conditions or take medications, you have to see if being the guinea pig is worth it. Nobody wants COVID, but the fact is its very survivable for a lot of people. Treatments have made it even more so. So the question becomes in an environment where lethality is declining, therapeutics are improving and the virus will recede just like past SARS- is it worth it to you personally. I think the answer to that from most who have not been vaccinated is- no, it's not. Nothing is going to compel those people into getting the vaccine, and when the lawsuits start, and trial lawyers see big payouts for companies and states trying to compel people into compliance, it's going to stop.

Btw, I'm not afraid of either getting the jab or not getting it. I'm just damn sure that nobody's going to lie to me while forcing compliance on me.

If I can still "pass Covid" after "immunization", one of these words (like "only") doesn't fit.

431 A classic dictatorship (or really despotism) has a clearly defined leader who becomes the focal point of all governing actions. If the leader is competent and restrained in appetites, then the system can rock on. The first move than most dictators make if competent is to render political opposition defunct by eliminating potential rivals for power. To do that without a civil war, the dictator more or less has to side with the popular interest as the many outnumber the few. There is a reason that Stalin's terror was initially aimed at his own party members, then the secret police, dissidents, and then the military.

We don't have that here yet. What we have is a scrambled group of oligarchs that unified in getting rid of Trump but are unable to produce an effective unified vision of the future as government by committee generally fails to do.

437 We don't have the classic dictatorship, what we have is essentially an oligarchy where several different power centers want different things.

The current data on that says it's spectacularly unlikely, especially if you are not elderly or immuno-compromised. The CDC may not be highlighting current data, which is a problem for them.

In fact, lying for political gain has been a problem. We can be mad about that. Unlike the other party, we tend to get past emotion and dig in and see what works best for society. My spouse was and is still mad about how everything has gone down since last March...and is still going down. But he can separate anger at the system vs still doing what helps society and his family (being me and the kids).

457 437 Joe, we don't even have a Politburo as there was by that time a regular procedure in the Sov Union with Krushchev, Brezhnev, Andropov, Chernenko, and then Gorbachev as first among equals.

Ours is a jury rigged oligarchy more like the drift under the new Russian Republic where an alcoholic deteriorating president was unable to effectively govern because the other power centers did not agree on what was to be done--the military, revised secret police, and the financial looting oligarchs. Biden is effectively a figurehead as is his sidekick so the real struggle is behind the scenes between relatively faceless and bungling bureaucrats, identity activists, and the biz oligarchs.

Not stable in the least but most likely each group has a large component that fears what will happen if their secrets are revealed--sexual and financial corruption, treachery with China, stealing elections, etc.
