The Black Lives Matter Basketball Association's Ratings Fall to Historic Lows

Misanthropic Humanitarian posted this in the ONT last night, but in case you missed it:

The NBA has suffered another ratings disaster, with ABC falling 45 percent since the 2011-12 season, while TNT was down 40 percent, and ESPN was off 20 percent.

This ratings tumble is nothing new, granted. The past two NBA finals each have fallen one over the other, with last year’s down 51 percent to an all-time low for the championships. The worst was the final game, off nearly 70 percent year-over-year.

Warner Todd Houston writes that NBA commissioner Adam Silver tried to put the breaks on sooooo much hardcore BLM agitation during what were supposed to be staged entertainments after last year's ratings disaster, but, thankfully, the public continues tuning out this corrupt sports league.

The Woke Comic Book companies are going bankrupt from going to war with their customers over Trump Derangement Syndrome. Ethan Van Sciver used to have a video of woke feminist c*** Kelly Sue DeConnick attacking comic book fans who didn't want hardcore Rachel Maddow propaganda in their comics.

Now he's spliced in a more recent interview with Kelly Sue DeConnick, in which she now seems scared and chastened as the comic book industry dies and she no longer has much work from DC and Marvel.

That's in the beginning of this livestream. It's very satisfying to see her going from a shrilly arrogant c*** to a worried, scared c***.

The Black Lives Matter Basketball Association is in the Early Days of the Kelly Sue DeConnick syndrome. Right now, they believe -- wrongly -- that they are so awesome and beloved that they can freely attack their own audience and their audience will just take it.

Soon they'll be in the advanced stages of Kelly Sue DeConnick Syndrome, when they learn that they were not nearly as indispensable as they used to believe, and start wondering what they can do to make more money.

Who wants to bet left nuts that those ratings will magically soar soon?

The failed leftist propaganda "tv show" about "Batwoman" that no one watches and everyone hates has seen its ratings increase, out of the blue, by 70%!

And the supposed tv network that is apparently run by tween girls, the CW, tells me it's new propaganda tv show with the appropriated title "Kung Fu" is "the new #1 hit" and "critics love it."

This is going to happen to live entertainment as well. People are used to NOT going to concerts or the theater now. So why would they go back, especially since it's going to be so difficult to get in due to the Wu Flu? The interesting part is that concerts are the only way that musicians make money now. So sad for all those liberal musicians and "artists."

47 Note that in 1920 the most popular spectator sports in America were baseball and boxing. Baseball retained its appeal while boxing decayed into a niche taste. Can you name off the top of your head any of the characters referred to as 'heavyweight champions', much less anyone in the lower weight classes? Looking forward to the time when basketball's audience is just below that for jai alai.

61 Effectively most of the billionaire owners are insulated from the crashing and burning of their sportsball teams. They made their piles of money elsewhere and are quite capable of continuing their assault on our common culture.

Want to really kill the leagues, deny any corporation tax deductions for entertainment spending including those magical boxes and stadium naming.

Same thing in denying any corporation tax deductions for donating to non-profits or campaign corporations.

Reorder the incentives and just like the SALT limits,a lot of virtue signalling will go away if the billionaires have to pay for it without deductions.

Good luck with that. I was a LDS missionary. I know missionaries who went all over the world. Many of them had to learn a foreign language. I learned Spanish for mine. After an intense language course of a few weeks, missionaries went out in the field and got immersed in the language they would teach in. Typically for languages like French, Spanish, Portuguese, the missionary was competent by six months and very comfortable a year in.

Then you had languages like Chinese and Icelandic and Hmong. Usually missionaries came back after a full two years and were still less competent in those languages than the Spanish or Portuguese missionaries were at the six month mark.

Mandarin is a damn hard language.

No; you're probably right.

But, for my part, I was a dedicated Broncos fan for my whole life. When they went BLM, I stopped watching the NFL. Haven't watched a single game in the intervening years, and never will again. Had they made an abject groveling apology, I might have changed my mind, but it's too late, now. They permanently lost my goodwill, and I no longer feel any attachment to the team or league, and my interest in the sport as a whole has declined considerably.

But, then, I'm sort of a hothead and very stubborn, so if I get pissed about something it happens fast and forever. I expect other people will hang in longer with being shit on than me, but eventually everyone hits their breaking point. The leagues aren't going to moderate themselves, and the viewers will *eventually* all drift away. I think.

98 I refuse to watch any more professional sports until the teams become more "equitable."

I demand that more short, obese, Asian, female, disabled, blind, etc., people be allowed to play on NBA and NFL teams. They are all woefully under-represented on the current teams. Equity now!

These are "national" teams, so they should look like the nation looks! More women, more obese people, more Asians (they are sooooooo discriminated against!) and more disabled folks need to be represented! There are too many blacks on these teams! It's not fair! It's not equitable! Demand equity now!!!

101 It's just a microcosm of the greater societal movement.

Boomers have all hit end of life, and they have their retirement, beach house, 401k, kids through college, grand babies and fond memories of smoking dope and traveling the globe.

All of these things were provided by the America they lived in. Their good life was provided by the blessings of liberty.

But as they die, they want their last piece of cake, to tear down 'the man' from the comfort of their collegiate Ivory Tower or gated community.

And retarded millennial believe them. They don't realize that they are destroying the world that has provided so much excess. But their boomer collegiate class doesn't care. They don't care of Tyrell or Raven or Maddie or Dakota live lives to their level of comfort, they just want their last fleeting fond memory of the '60s.

They have theirs, f*ck the next generation. The NBA is no different. Players in the league have their millions, so who cares if it burns. Does it sell more shoes? Does it get more Twitter hits? Then do it.

What the left claims that industrialization has done to the Earth is what their ideology has done to society.

It is because the elites in our Western societies despise the common people of their own countries and want to reinstitute an aristocracy by divide and conquer. Burnham termed these people as the managerial class.

To kill that viewpoint and lifestyle among elites, the common people will have to strip all of the insulation from the elites which generally comes from the strong man on a horse running the whole show that drives the elites into submission and out of politics.

The problem with that is few authoritarians are like Pinochet or Franco, many are like Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Chavez, Castro, etc. Some are simply incompetent and corrupt like Bastista, the Greek colonels, the Argentinian generals, etc.

126 NBA ball really is, and has been, incredibly boring and uninteresting for many many years. rcocean admirably summed it up. College hoops of course can be fun, because of the "lower" ability level (and heights), and of course the crowd enthusiasm. But with the idiotic kneeling and other racist garbage, haven't glanced at that for a while (and never did much more than catch the final game, and a a few local games in person, for many years, anyway).

127 they want to believe so much because so many of their players are black. Did they ever ask them what to do? or they're just taking LeBron's word for it.

The Dems/leftists have convinced (somehow) that altho blacks only are 14% or so of the population that they can ignore the others. Same as with Trans and gay. Both tiny populations compared to other people.

It's all in the numbers. The demographics. I've always wondered why a sport with so many black players got so many white viewers. It wasn't their playing ability I think. I think it was a form of virtue signalling and now getting told you're racist no matter what you do has caused them to rethink their entire viewing habits. Why virtue signal if you don't get credit?

NBA and NFL need to start being told they'd better get their numbers into proportion or they're gonna get sued.

139 If it wasn't George Floyd, it would have been someone else, God knows there are enough black/blue confrontations to ensure that.

But this all started because early in 2020, polls were showing that Trump had upwards of 20% support in the black community

We talked about it here at that time and generally most of thought that while 20% was too high, even 12-15% would have been enough to ENSURE Trump's re-election.

The Democrats saw those numbers too and they shit their pants, so they just waited for the inevitable cell-phone recorded black/blue confrontation and dirtbags Floyd and Chauvin obliged.

The Demorats HAVE to keep black anger on slow boil and ready to boil over at their command in order to win national elections. It's a fact and everyone knows it.

168 I came from the womb wearing a Cubs hat. It is very hard for me not to watch the games. But the Cubs have made it easier for me this year by putting all their games behind the Marquee paywall. I'm cheap. I'm not going to pay for something I should be able to casually flip on WGN to see. However, if they went back in time and removed the lights so that there were no more night games, I would have no choice but to return.

169 new law coming soon:

NFL & NBA fandom is mandatory.

Citizens will be bound by law to spend 35% of their entertainment hours watching an approved sport, and spend 5% of their annual income on sports merchandise. These figures are subject to change at a whim, of course.

Failure to comply may result in withheld health care rations for the first offense, 5 years in the gulag thereafter.

170 Here's the rub though. If I as a citizen were to do that exact same thing I would be in a world of trouble.

Well yeah, you aren't tasked with preventing/stopping crime.

And you likely wouldn't have video footage to defend your shoot.

And most likely, everybody on the scene would testify the perp 'dindu nuffin'.

The best thing a citizen can do in cases such as this is turn the volume up on your AirPods so the music drowns out the screaming of the stabbing victim as you walk to the store.

I spent a decade or so in Asia (mostly PRC). In mandarin every word can mean 4 things depending on the 4 tonals (goes up or down, or down then up or stays flat in pitch). Cantonese is worse, they have twice as many tonals. And vietnamese is worse yet, they have so many tonals it sounds like they are singing (which is kinda pretty to hear). After a decade I still can only speak enough mandarin to get into trouble, So I rate your post as Absolutely True.

It is actually quite likely because simply we cannot continue to print money without consequences. Right now, we are like the patient that has been given a sedative but are not out for the painful operation.

Losing the reserve status for currency will do it as the value of the dollar goes to zero and the imports soar in prices. Thus, then currency restrictions will be in place.

When the pound was removed on the world stage as a reserve currency, England suffered for about a decade and a half and in some ways far more than the nations in Europe that had greater physical damage to their infrastructure.

If you rigorously keep human feces separate from drinking water and provide for efficient and thorough disposal, that equals civilization.

But most of the world still craps in rough holes in the ground 20 feet away from water wells, or in the middle of the street, or disposal is "open pipe from toilet to river, upstream from drinking water plant".

The behavior of the wealthy, the disintegration of the cities where many of the wealthy live, and the coming benefits crunch on Social Security and Medicare, will cause the GOP, kicking and screaming, to become a more populist party or it will die and be replaced by such. The precarious union of the uber wealthy and the poor on the left will end if the populist party turns the anger onto the wealthy and the corporations.

The would be aristocrats will bend a knee as they always have because no one is going to die for a corporation and few truly wealthy persons will risk their own personal lives and economic security for politics. The hereditary aristocracy had honor, the current 'aristocracy' of wealth and corporate barons have none. Which is more likely to fold in a fight to the death.

For me, the only question is whether the coming strong person of whatever title is a person of the left or the right.

I disagree. Such tribalism is important, because human beings are fundamentally tribal creatures. Local sports teams help to create a sense of shared identity, and games serve as a type of secular ritual which is very valuable for tying a community together.

The real problem is that the major league teams have become globalized, which takes away many of the benefits.

266 220 rhomboid, the coming financial crisis will envelop all and I don't see voters wanting to give up their Social Security and Medicare in favor of wealthy individuals being able to deduct their sports ball tickets and boxes. The higher taxes on the wealthy and corporations is coming whether by the left or the right.

The historical example is Great Britain after WWII had to enact almost ruinous taxes in order to support the welfare state and those rates were more or less supported by both Conservatives and Labor when in power. You can also make that argument regarding France during the Fronde uprising and the later French Revolution. The wealthy will be made to pay their share along with their corporate entities.

Because wealthy individuals and corporations appear to control the state now, does not mean that they will continue to in the future.

280 Donbass is limit of Russian interest in Ukraine, territorially I mean. It's somewhat analogous to Moscow's approach to Georgia since 1991. Though in Ukraine's case, there is the actual ethno-geographic situation in the Donbass where classic irredentism forms a foundation. In Georgia's case, the truly bad situation for Russian ethnics in Abkhazia was more an excuse than a reason - Moscow just can't live without having a very large thumb on the scale in Georgia, going back to before Soviet times.

Donbass is a conventional ethnic irredentist situation, which also serves as a nice lever on Ukraine for more important issues.

What I'm about to say may sound asshole-ish, but bear with me.
American society is fragmented because American WHITES are fragmented.
Upper middle class whites do not live in the same neighborhoods or go to the same schools as normal middle-class whites--let alone lower-middle class, FORGET working class whites and they RARELY intermarry.

50 years ago when I was a lad, my ( Catholic) grammar school served the children of lawyers, a couple doctors, bank presidents, cops and common laborers.
That is unheard of today.

White society is shattered into tiny little pieces and that makes it hard to have any unifying movement for the nation at large.

Russia right now is in a similar situation to Germany post- WWI.

Most countries in Europe are broken down by ethnicities, unlike in North America.

When the borders were drawn post-WWI, a lot of Germanic people lived on the other sides of various borders, and were an ethnic minority in a new country that they never wanted to be a part of. That led to their "countrymen" wanting to "save them."

Same is going on since the fall of the USSR. Lots of ethnic Russians on the "wrong side" of borders.

I am against any involvement of the US military in any other country. And not because of isolationism, either. I would have no problem with it if I thought we could win a foreign war... but we can't. We lack the political will to carry an invasion through to success, for a variety of reasons, and any foreign involvement would be another waste of blood and treasure that only advances the interests of our enemies to a greater degree than if we just stayed home in the first place.

306 Because god forbid you shoot someone in defense of a third party and the third party says "I wasn't in fear for my life, I knew he wasn't going to [stab] [shoot] [whatever] me" which, in a politically charged shooting could absolutely happen. Doesn't mean you automatically lose (it's from a reasonable person standpoint), but it doesn't make for an easier case.

321 282 Harry, probably less than a decade away. Money is only as real as any other institution that people believe in, when it quits being accepted by others at the dictated government rate is when the value of the fiat currency equals nearly zero. It is no different in a way versus boundaries on a map--accepted by people until it is not. Eventually rectification always occurs.

The current cryptocurrency surge offers one way, baskets of currency under the IMF another, and some other trading giant, like China supplanting the current system is in the cards.

It is given the rest of the world resents and dislikes the US using its reserve currency status to throw around its weight, just as we did during the era of the British pound. So the question is what will replace the dollar and when, rather than the its future replacement as reserve currency.

359 A few minor things I noticed about NBA games (mainly by channel-surfing and then moving on):

1) Their uniform designs really suck suddenly: uninspired garbage, looking like cheap rec-league jerseys in many cases. Some teams have changed to particularly ugly color combinations and logos as well (e.g. the Utah Jazz's logo looks like a soulless 1970s relic). My gut reaction was "who cares, this looks cheap."

2) Not enough focus on team vs. team, too much focus on individual performance from stars. This is exacerbated by the NBA allowing the top stars to all sign with the same team. That flies in the face of what their salary cap is supposed to do, namely prevent particularly rich teams from hoarding all the elite talent Steinbrenner-style.

3) Game quality has gone downhill ever since teams decided that drafting Kobe out of high school was the thing to do. Too many players have subpar fundamentals and/or teamwork skills entering the league. This often doesn't get fixed because dunking is too easy and 3-pointers are too easy, so rather than develop skills, the rest of the game goes in the toilet.

And he never admits he is wrong, which is the worst thing about him (but that goes with his Never Apologize book, so I suppose its consistent).
