Chauvin jury reaches verdict, updates.

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty Tuesday afternoon of second and third-degree murder along with second-degree manslaughter in the death of George Floyd in May. Chauvin faces up to 40 years in prison. He will be sentenced eight weeks from today.

Resident of the White House had this pithy comment, "It was a murder in full light of day, and it ripped the blinders off for the whole would to the systemic racism…that's a stain on our nation's soul."

Deep down in my heart I believe it wasn't racism that killed George Floyd. It was a combination of events that led up to an imperfect storm. And furthermore I believe guilty verdicts on all 3 charges in such a hasty fashion were to prevent the jurors from being doxxed and the Twin Cities from burning.

When do the leftist politicians start calling out children having children? When does the left start holding parents responsible for rolling over and smothering their babies while they sleep? When are gang bangers held responsible for shooting at other gang bangers and hitting innocent victims such as 5 year olds?

I could go on about the lack of an outcry. But, I've said my piece.

DAVIDSONVILLE, Md. (AP) — An amateur genealogist has come forward to admit she scrubbed roughly 200 gravestones at a Maryland cemetery in a way that left them damaged.
The Capital in Annapolis reports that the woman scrubbed the markings on headstones dating back to the 19th century to make them easier to photograph for the "Billion Graves” genealogy website.
The scrubbing left nearly 200 stones at All Hallows Episcopal Church Cemetery in Davidsonville with awkward "zebra” stripes that may cost $10,000 to repair.
The Rev. Jeff Hual, rector at All Hallows, said a woman came forward on Thursday to admit she was one of two people who scrubbed the graves. Hual said she was contrite and didn’t know she was harming the graves.

Michael King had just taken out the money from the bank to cover a business debt he owed. For whatever reason, he was so distracted, he accidentally left his wallet on his vehicle before cranking up the engine and heading home.

"I just took the withdrawal that day, and I don’t know what compelled me to leave it on the bumper of the truck,” King told the Seattle Times. "… I am just flabbergasted that it didn’t get picked up by somebody else. It would have crippled us to have that amount of money disappear.”

Brother and I were on the track to find my G-G-G-grandfather's headstone. Were told where it was (back in the woods somewhere yonder).
Went on-line, and found all the tricks... sidewalk chalk, mirrors to reflect light, algae removers safe for stone, etc..
Toted all this crap into the woods, and it was as legible as the day it was erected.
They sent all the way to Richmond, Mo for it (1851) and spent $8.50. (About 40 miles, and across the Muddy Mo.)

One of the sisters was a "grave witcher".
She'd get hired by the small town cemeteries to "witch" where folks were already buried. She had quite the reputation.

There was a theater in a city near me that showed films that were not shown in the multiplex theaters. I suggested that they show old films, such as Hitchcock or film noir. The owner told me that those can cost more to show than recent films. Not sure why.

Seems like a long time ago. It was in a place called America. Where there used to be something called "Rule of Law", where everyone was more or less held accountable on an agreed set of laws and principles. If there was any doubt, that died today (actually long before) in a Minnesota courtroom.

So, YouTube still has at least these two examples for future generations to watch. I think if we look they still have a few more examples. Allman Brothers Live at the Fillmore was one of my favorites. Good to know they kept visual examples of adults freely associating for the next generation to have examples of what that meant.

Salty, first, all they just want to is riot, is exactly correct. It was never about civil rights, rather about wanton destruction and another brick tossed to bring down traditional American culture and civilization. Just like 1959 -65 China.
And second, an ethical Constitutional Rights group, who? If the police won't/can't keep the peace, the only thing I vaguely recall the Constitution mentioning is the militia, meaning the common citizens banding together to protect their local area for common good.

The Democrats and their barking seals in the effbeeye won't allow that, they certainly don't allow for peaceful assembly any more.

I always knew that code. Those were necessary settings to change, several times a day, because of the different amounts of sugar, aggregate (chips, brownie crumbs, etc), and fat in each of 12 different products going at any time. It was the people who came into Europe about 3000BC bringing pastoralism and cows, Indoeuropean languages, and metals who are mainly responsible for introducing the gene. They themselves were mostly not lactose tolerant, but they carried the gene. Since then it spread massively throughout Europe. It was a beneficial gene that gave a survival edge to those who had it and passed it onto their kids.

All this is particularly interesting to me because I am one of two poor souls in my family who cannot drink cows milk since I am lactose intolerant. The other one was my maternal grandmother.

Just got a big server deployed in Dallas this morning. Slightly faster than this one. I'll split the workloads and have each back up to the other.

yeah, even loading better for me on my iphone. I mean, it's not optimized for mobile, but usually it's jumping all over the place as things (like embedded tweets and ads) load. Today I noticed it loaded as if I were on my laptop.

They load differently. On this the text loads in with all the other blog text and then the twitter interface loads in. On the other one the tweets don't load in at all until they load in with the twitter interface, so all at once.

Ah, yeah.

My diet plan is that I do pretty strict keto with low calories, and include regular fasts until I get a bit below my goal weight. Then I do one meal a day, then I start drinking beer again, then I kind of lose interest and start eating carbs, gain weight again, then rinse and repeat.

Probably not the healthiest thing, but it's worked for me so far. Right now I'm back in the strict keto / low calorie / dieting phase, but I completely feel ya -- it is almost impossible to maintain. Carbs are just too delicious.

Also if you block twitter, or say your work blocks twitter you couldn't see any of the tweets at all. At least here if a tweet is included you can tell that its a tweet and see who the twitter handle is from.

Yes, I plan on buying an electric car at some point unless I move back to nyc, then I will just go without a car. A few of my friends have Teslas, they're pretty awesome. Super fast, the tech is cool, and as long as you have somewhere to charge them (which would be a problem for me at my current location), they're pretty convenient.

She is 92. Breast cancer from 5 years ago, got her. But her quality of life really sucks. Constant pain from various ailments.... and all her people (except of kids) are dead.

I'm re-evaluating our Western cultures idea that life must be prolonged at all costs.

You reach the point where you are destroying the lives of those taking care of you... when your quality of life already sucks...

Case in point? my new neighbor, just bought the house next door... She is the full time caregiver for her Mom who is bedridden due to strokes... Daughter HAS NO LIFE AT ALL. And has not for 4 years. Killed her marriage. Yet, if I said her MOM was a problem? I'd be the asshole bad guy.

We need to have a rational conversation in the West about life.

I mean, it sounds like it makes shit ice cream, what with the nightly pasteurization cycle, but 80 to 95% availability, high throughput, and output for shakes and cones in one machine - well what the heck are they complaining on?

The whiners actually picked the machine for their frozen yogurt business, found it did not have some features they wanted, so they went to China to reverse engineer it and add a feature which they admit the main benefit is that it notifies of fault instead of relying on restaurant staff. wtf? Then they complain about Taylor coming out with a competition to their add on box.

This really sounds like much ado by little bitches.

I think it is up to each family. For example, I have subtly hinted to my mom I am not terrible interested in resuming treatment when the cancer comes back.

605 About the availability - it has a daily 4 hour clean cycle, and a biweekly full manual clean. Many restaurants are not to interested in keeping it active because it is not a big seller in their market and not a high margin profit (not sure on this, but when I was last in states it was all dollar menu stuff.) They make way more on the soda people will buy anyway.

And about that secret menu - Of course Mcd is not going to want people messing with key parameters. That is common for commercial equipment to have menus only accessible by service personnel. And imagine the disaster if some idiot franchise owner modifies something and people get lysteria? Imagine the fallout from that with thousands of the machines around the world it would be a disaster.

The writers of the piece should know better. These whiners wanted remote capability because they wanted to use the machine in unmanned kiosks - not their intended purpose. So now they whine to social media to get likes.

And that is all an individual decision to make. My mom cared for her mom after she was all but completely paralyzed until the health things got to be to great for her to be taken care of outside a facility. That facility was then overwhelmed and moved grandma to a facility 3 hours away and my mom went at least every other weekend to see her until she died.

My mom did not love this, she chose to do it, but that shouldn't be an obligation we as a society force on everyone nor should anyone be made to feel lesser because they don't have or want the ability to make caring for a relative their whole life.

616 My mother (born 1935) took care of my father (born 1929) during his last few years when he was decaying from PSP ("supranuclear palsy"), which did in Dudley Moore and which Linda Ronstadt suffers from. Anyways, my mother put off dealing with her own health problems, particularly severe osteoporosis and a parathyroid tumor she didn't know about. She's in a lot of pain and has really no quality of life beyond watching TV and reading. She can't stand up straight and now has to live on the ground floor of the house though she has rotating, full-time care. Her 3 kids are long grown, she has 1 grandchild and not getting anymore (which she prefers given the state of things) and her biggest concern is maintaining eligibility to be en-walled with my father at Arlington Nat. Cem. when she does go, which I think she'd rather be sooner than later. (Committing a felony renders her ineligible, IYKWIMAITTYD.) It's tough.

I know it won't help much, but it isn't selfish to admit you can't do it all, or even most, anymore. We are all human, we have our limits and knowing when we have reached them is so very important, yet so hard especially when loved one's are involved. And if you destroy yourself, others will be in the same position of trying to help you.

Same. And not letting anyone know. I was honestly shocked when I told people about my left arm symptom that no one had noticed after I was confronted with the cause. It seemed so embarrassingly obvious to me at the time and I was certain I'd be chided to go see a doctor, which I don't (well, didn't) do unless near catastrophic.

Which in retrospect is a lesson I should have learned with the months of pain, some blinding followed by an emergency surgery to remove a Gall Bladder.

Slow to learn I am.

I'm the "family caregiver" it seems. Dad at least took care of Mom when cancer struck her, but when he eventually got sick (that cancer SOB struck again) it was up to me to look after him. I have 3 siblings, but only one is local--but wouldn't help much. The other two couldn't trouble themselves to move closer although one came up to help for several weeks. After about 6 months, I couldn't keep doing it without losing my j*b, so I found a very nice facility for him. Fortunately he was able to private-pay and didn't resent being 'put there'. Saw him every day. I did all his personal shopping and took him out to special events, &etc.

It strained my marriage, oh we came so close to splitting!

I felt so shat-upon by my siblings-- and mostly by the one who lives nearby! A single person with no children! WhyTF couldn't he split the duties fairly?

Now hubby is ill and I'm sole-caregiving again because stepson lives far away. Hub's only sibling lives 1000 miles away... I have taken personal leave from w*rk, just to be sure he doesn't fall again...

Yeah, I'm strained! Yeah, I'm worried about losing my j*b! Yeah, I'd like a break!

It's the promise of the next one that gives many of us that hope to keep going. But seeking help and getting connected now is a big thing. Might what to search what resources are available near you, even if it is mostly others experiencing similar things to laugh and cry with. Honestly, Dementia through whatever means is one of my 3 biggest fears (MS and Parkinson's round out the greatest fear section) and so the cancer diagnosis was kind of "Thankfully it it wasn't one of those." Yeah it is dumb, but we fear what we fear.

At work we had to call a locksmith once, and they quoted a flat rate ($75 to $100 I think) as someone locked a room with the last spare set of keys inside it (and we learned not to let that happen again).

So after struggling for 30+ min, the newish locksmith called his more experienced coworker, who showed up with a "let me show you how to do this" attitude...and then proceeded to spend 30+ minutes trying to open the door.

He then called the boss, who showed up with a special tool that only licensed locksmiths can own and which the company only had one or two of, who finally got the lock open while saying apparently it had somehow been put in backwards.

I felt a little guilty signing the $75-$100 bill after watching 3 people over 3 hours, maybe close to 4, fight with the door. Considered calling the director and getting her to OK at least a little tip, though I know she wouldn't. The pitfalls of flat rate.

687 My sympathies and respect to anyone taking care of a parent or spouse. My wife had M.S. 30 years. I "retired" early to be her primary care-giver. It was expensive, but I know that I did the right thing. So, I am now footloose and fancy-free. One chapter is over and another begins.
