Deep down in my heart I believe it wasn't racism that killed George Floyd. It was a combination of events that led up to an imperfect storm. DAVIDSONVILLE, Md. (AP) — An amateur genealogist has come forward to admit she scrubbed roughly 200 gravestones at a Maryland cemetery in a way that left them damaged. The Capital in Annapolis reports that the woman scrubbed the markings on headstones dating back to the 19th century to make them easier to photograph for the "Billion Graves” genealogy website. The scrubbing left nearly 200 stones at All Hallows Episcopal Church Cemetery in Davidsonville with awkward "zebra” stripes that may cost $10,000 to repair. The Rev. Jeff Hual, rector at All Hallows, said a woman came forward on Thursday to admit she was one of two people who scrubbed the graves. True story, re: gravestones.
Brother and I were on the track to find my G-G-G-grandfather's headstone. Were told where it was (back in the woods somewhere yonder). Went on-line, and found all the tricks... sidewalk chalk, mirrors to reflect light, algae removers safe for stone, etc.. Toted all this crap into the woods, and it was as legible as the day it was erected. They sent all the way to Richmond, Mo for it (1851) and spent $8.50. (About 40 miles, and across the Muddy Mo.) > Seems like milking a Gorgon would be hazardous to one's health...
It was an artisanal industry. Each Gorgon would milk herself and produce small batches of Gorgonzola. While the volume wasn't enough for full support, it was supplemental income that tided them over, along with making shoes and cowboy boots from the dead snakes that came out in their hair brushes. They also had a lucrative custom-order sculpture business, but that failed after it was noted that the models never came back from the modeling sessions. Is there a term for this? I expected Chauvin was screwed when they over-charged him for the actual reckless use of force, maybe involuntary manslaughter. And I knew it was like 99.5% he was going to get screwed with the judge and jurors all going "ah shit, let this get sorted out on appeal when the professional grievance crowd has moved on to the next thing" rather than making a hard decision for actual justice.

You could probably make a decent real estate investment strategy out of looking where the starving artists and musicians live now, and where all the hole-in-the-wall clubs are, and buying it up. In other words, be a slumlord, but choose the slums with artists, not the ones with meth dealers. By the time it becomes trendy, the artists will all be priced out. Lather, rinse, repeat. I think it's funny that people are satisfied with the prosecution of the Chauvin case, but think now's the time of really nail the other cops, which the prosecution offered as at Chauvin's mercy, and this is only the beginning, when the entire case against Chauvin was that he, personally, did not use the discretion he should have. They even made the point that he practically violated department policy.
The prosecution made the case that Chauvin, personally was depraved; and the point was specifically that he violated the system! But now they think it springboards a movement against racism of a system. And racism was no part of what they convicted him of. Posted by: Axeman at April 20, 2021 09:55 PM (kCXqq) 301

Nice couple of hidden videos for tonight, MisHum. Both live versions.
I remember that time, long ago, when free people sat, at their discretion instead of a government mandate, shoulder to shoulder, row by row, and enjoyed listening to a popular singer sing a popular song, live. It was actually called a "Live Concert". Seems like a long time ago. It was in a place called America. Where there used to be something called "Rule of Law", where everyone was more or less held accountable on an agreed set of laws and principles. If there was any doubt, that died today (actually long before) in a Minnesota courtroom. So, YouTube still has at least these two examples for future generations to watch. I think if we look they still have a few more examples. Allman Brothers Live at the Fillmore was one of my favorites. Good to know they kept visual examples of adults freely associating for the next generation to have examples of what that meant. Posted by: LeftCoast Dawg at April 20, 2021 09:56 PM (sy5kK) 304

..... If they riot now it is proof that they just want to riot. Perhaps we need an ethical Constitutional Rights group to take care of this. Like the police used to. Posted by: NaCly Dog at April 20, 2021 09:36 PM (u82oZ) Salty, first, all they just want to is riot, is exactly correct. It was never about civil rights, rather about wanton destruction and another brick tossed to bring down traditional American culture and civilization. Just like 1959 -65 China. And second, an ethical Constitutional Rights group, who? If the police won't/can't keep the peace, the only thing I vaguely recall the Constitution mentioning is the militia, meaning the common citizens banding together to protect their local area for common good. The Democrats and their barking seals in the effbeeye won't allow that, they certainly don't allow for peaceful assembly any more. So, I'm confused. Maybe using the words ethical, Constitutional, and rights, all in the same sentence threw me. It's been a long time since it's been done. Funny thing about those Taylor ice cream machines. I helped build and run a frozen yogurt shop for three summers a few years ago. We had six of those machines.
I always knew that code. Those were necessary settings to change, several times a day, because of the different amounts of sugar, aggregate (chips, brownie crumbs, etc), and fat in each of 12 different products going at any time. That article is retarded. Maybe its just McD's workers they keep it secret from, but you literally can't run a frozen yogurt shop without the ability to change those settings at the drop of a hat. The Vandals had something to do with spreading the genetics for lactose tolerance. But they came after the fall of the Roman empire. It was the people who came into Europe about 3000BC bringing pastoralism and cows, Indoeuropean languages, and metals who are mainly responsible for introducing the gene. They themselves were mostly not lactose tolerant, but they carried the gene. Since then it spread massively throughout Europe. It was a beneficial gene that gave a survival edge to those who had it and passed it onto their kids. All this is particularly interesting to me because I am one of two poor souls in my family who cannot drink cows milk since I am lactose intolerant. The other one was my maternal grandmother. Well, you Coloradans just got fooked with a new pair of annoying, but mostly ineffectual "gun laws" by your Polis-hole of a gub'ner.
Even if only at glacial speed, note that those laws ONLY impinge on the Law Abiding, and will be roundly ignored by the criminal left. (oxymoron alert) One, a requirement to report stolen guns within a 5 day window, and the other, to require "safe storage", and boy howdy, what a word salad did they create on that one! I think there'll be a whole lot of guns needing adoption out of Colorado, before long. And I'm willing to invest in as many safes as might be required to take in such as I can, and give them their "forever home". Posted by: qdpsteve at April 20, 2021 10:51 PM (L2ZTs) Ah, yeah. My diet plan is that I do pretty strict keto with low calories, and include regular fasts until I get a bit below my goal weight. Then I do one meal a day, then I start drinking beer again, then I kind of lose interest and start eating carbs, gain weight again, then rinse and repeat. Probably not the healthiest thing, but it's worked for me so far. Right now I'm back in the strict keto / low calorie / dieting phase, but I completely feel ya -- it is almost impossible to maintain. Carbs are just too delicious. Posted by: Harry Paratestes at April 20, 2021 11:02 PM (UPoLF) 475

Pretty clear body-cam footage showing a girl (sort of an offensive tackle, as far as looks, and I've read 15-yrs old, which is hard to believe given her size) wielding a knife and attacking two individuals - AS THE COP WALKS UP TO THE SCENE. One male there joins in and kicks a woman who was pushed down by the eventual bullet-catcher. Cop shoots the knife-wielding offensive tackle from close range, as she attacks another woman. The offensive tackle's mother, in an interview clip I saw (not making this up) describes her daughter as some who promoted peace. Bilwis, I think the main correlation between vehicle "crash worthiness" and physical characteristics is weight. Heavier = safer, ceteris paribus. Though I think design has now become a strong determing factor, maybe partly because of modern materials (lighter, yet stronger).
All I know is that I treat Teslas with even more caution than I already regard most other cars on the road (default assumption is all drivers are incompetent, rude, and reckless - no exaggeration any more), because of their acceleration capability. I've seen several hair-raising close calls with Teslas accelerating through traffic, lane-hopping. Like the other obnoxious reckless tricked out Hondas etc that do that, but even faster. Are things getting sporty in Columbus tonight? There was a fatal police shooting there today, I missed it if Ladyl posted. The officer's bodycam exonerates him I think, he saved one black female from being stabbed by another black female. I think that more cops should voluntarily wear bodycams and demand that their unions back them up.

That cold war article annoyed me. TBH, I was surprised at how impressive the Taylor machine is. I mean, it sounds like it makes shit ice cream, what with the nightly pasteurization cycle, but 80 to 95% availability, high throughput, and output for shakes and cones in one machine - well what the heck are they complaining on?
The whiners actually picked the machine for their frozen yogurt business, found it did not have some features they wanted, so they went to China to reverse engineer it and add a feature which they admit the main benefit is that it notifies of fault instead of relying on restaurant staff. wtf? Then they complain about Taylor coming out with a competition to their add on box. This really sounds like much ado by little bitches. Anyways, greeting old-site horde. Good to see the little grey boxes back in action, quirks and all. (now I expect a spam notice from Pixy....) Posted by: Gentlemen, this is junta manifest at April 21, 2021 01:57 AM (XCPPt) 603

About the availability - it has a daily 4 hour clean cycle, and a biweekly full manual clean. Many restaurants are not to interested in keeping it active because it is not a big seller in their market and not a high margin profit (not sure on this, but when I was last in states it was all dollar menu stuff.) They make way more on the soda people will buy anyway.
And about that secret menu - Of course Mcd is not going to want people messing with key parameters. That is common for commercial equipment to have menus only accessible by service personnel. And imagine the disaster if some idiot franchise owner modifies something and people get lysteria? Imagine the fallout from that with thousands of the machines around the world it would be a disaster. The writers of the piece should know better. These whiners wanted remote capability because they wanted to use the machine in unmanned kiosks - not their intended purpose. So now they whine to social media to get likes. Yes, there are those who dedicate their live to others... the question is now, when does it become like a battered wife? When does it change from support, to being taken advantage of.
Medical science has given us the ability to prolong life.... way past where there is any QUALITY of life. Yet, in Western Culture and Christianity we cannot end our own lives.... so when does prolonging YOUR life, destroy the lives of others..... Posted by: Romeo13 at April 21, 2021 02:02 AM (oHd/0) And that is all an individual decision to make. My mom cared for her mom after she was all but completely paralyzed until the health things got to be to great for her to be taken care of outside a facility. That facility was then overwhelmed and moved grandma to a facility 3 hours away and my mom went at least every other weekend to see her until she died. My mom did not love this, she chose to do it, but that shouldn't be an obligation we as a society force on everyone nor should anyone be made to feel lesser because they don't have or want the ability to make caring for a relative their whole life. 603 Coworker's grandma passed away last month, and she was over 100. But his parents had been taking care of her for the last five years, and had no life at all.
Sounds like my Mom and Aunt the last several years. They took care of my Grandma. She died at age 101. Posted by: Puddleglum, green at April 21, 2021 02:11 AM (sv6x0) 615

My mother (born 1935) took care of my father (born 1929) during his last few years when he was decaying from PSP ("supranuclear palsy"), which did in Dudley Moore and which Linda Ronstadt suffers from. Anyways, my mother put off dealing with her own health problems, particularly severe osteoporosis and a parathyroid tumor she didn't know about. She's in a lot of pain and has really no quality of life beyond watching TV and reading. She can't stand up straight and now has to live on the ground floor of the house though she has rotating, full-time care. Her 3 kids are long grown, she has 1 grandchild and not getting anymore (which she prefers given the state of things) and her biggest concern is maintaining eligibility to be en-walled with my father at Arlington Nat. Cem. when she does go, which I think she'd rather be sooner than later. (Committing a felony renders her ineligible, IYKWIMAITTYD.) It's tough.

We are all human, we have our limits and knowing when we have reached them is so very important, yet so hard especially when loved one's are involved. I was honestly shocked when I told people about my left arm symptom that no one had noticed after I was confronted with the cause. It seemed so embarrassingly obvious to me at the time and I was certain I'd be chided to go see a doctor, which I don't (well, didn't) do unless near catastrophic. Which in retrospect is a lesson I should have learned with the months of pain, some blinding followed by an emergency surgery to remove a Gall Bladder. Slow to learn I am. Romeo13-- I hear ya!
I'm the "family caregiver" it seems. Dad at least took care of Mom when cancer struck her, but when he eventually got sick (that cancer SOB struck again) it was up to me to look after him. I have 3 siblings, but only one is local--but wouldn't help much. The other two couldn't trouble themselves to move closer although one came up to help for several weeks. After about 6 months, I couldn't keep doing it without losing my j*b, so I found a very nice facility for him. Fortunately he was able to private-pay and didn't resent being 'put there'. Saw him every day. I did all his personal shopping and took him out to special events, &etc. It strained my marriage, oh we came so close to splitting! I felt so shat-upon by my siblings-- and mostly by the one who lives nearby! A single person with no children! WhyTF couldn't he split the duties fairly? Now hubby is ill and I'm sole-caregiving again because stepson lives far away. Hub's only sibling lives 1000 miles away... I have taken personal leave from w*rk, just to be sure he doesn't fall again... Yeah, I'm strained! Yeah, I'm worried about losing my j*b! Yeah, I'd like a break! Posted by: JQ at April 21, 2021 02:54 AM (09wCi) At work we had to call a locksmith once, and they quoted a flat rate ($75 to $100 I think) as someone locked a room with the last spare set of keys inside it (and we learned not to let that happen again). So after struggling for 30+ min, the newish locksmith called his more experienced coworker, who showed up with a "let me show you how to do this" attitude...and then proceeded to spend 30+ minutes trying to open the door. He then called the boss, who showed up with a special tool that only licensed locksmiths can own and which the company only had one or two of, who finally got the lock open while saying apparently it had somehow been put in backwards. I felt a little guilty signing the $75-$100 bill after watching 3 people over 3 hours, maybe close to 4, fight with the door. Considered calling the director and getting her to OK at least a little tip, though I know she wouldn't. The pitfalls of flat rate. Posted by: Bete at April 21, 2021 03:04 AM (Ojki1) 654

Shaun Willoughby should get a real job, and NO police officer anywhere should be allowed to be in a union, and NO police union should be tolerated, much less allowed to exist. Cops already hate the public and hold them in absolute contempt. Maybe without a union they will be nudged into actually respecting those who pay their bills and pensions again.
