It's getting frustrating putting collecting and posting the rant thread, and then having to yank it back into draft because it's overloading the temporary server. So my content is going to be pretty minimal until Pixy is able to resolve the underlying hardware issues.

Anyway...

I'm Old Enough To Remember When This Was A National Scandal:

For you younguns, the backstory here is that some reporter asked Nixon about the Charles Manson trial while it was in progress and he took the bait. Manson's lawyers used this newspaper as evidence in their mistrial request.

The request for a mistrial was denied.

Naturally, the chattering classes, inflamed as they were with NDS, went bonkers. But I will admit they had a point. Nixon should've resisted the urge to run his mouth and either responded "no comment" or restricted his remarks to something anodyne and as neutral as tap water, such as, for example, "I trust that the jury will weigh the evidence thoroughly and come to the right decision."

In contrast, I notice that the chattering classes of 2021 did not seem to have a problem with Joe Biden's very loud and very public pleading for a guilty verdict. Nor did they have any objection to unhinged lunatic Maxine Waters' frothing-at-the-mouth incitement to violence and ham-handed attempt at jury tampering. Be nice if we could get to a point where we could have demands for proper behavior and decency that would apply to everyone, not just Richard Nixon.

Donor Request

This came through on the AoSHQ mailing list:

My wife and I did IVF back in 2013 to conceive our second son.

Out of the original batch of embryos, there's still one left on ice which we never used. We were offered the choice between donating for medical research or simply keeping it in cold storage for the time being. We chose the latter.

The IVF clinic has recently increased their storage fees (by A LOT) so we decided to donate the embryo for implantation. We both figure it's the least bad option, and gives the child the best chance for life. The snag we've hit now is that they only accept embyro donations of at least two, and we only have one.

They've offered to assist in transferring the embryo to a donor, but we would have to find one ourselves.

As a side note, the facility is in Portland, OR, so we had already resigned ourselves to the thought that this child might be born into the hands of hippy retards.

But maybe now we can fix that.

Might anyone among the Moron Horde know a young(ish) conservative couple looking for an embryo donation?

Prayer Requests:
12/12 – Katya, the designated driver sends an update that she was in the ER with shortness of breath last weekend, and has found she has a blood clot in her lung now. The blood thinner she was on for the clot in her leg wasn’t doing the job, so she is giving herself injections twice a day of enoxaparin sodium. She feels good, mostly. She sends her thanks for prayers and support through her chemo treatments.
2/16 Update – Katya sent word that her surgery went great, but she’s had some issues since then. (The blood thinner medication for blood clots caused low blood pressure. Then she was losing blood, which caused dizziness and confusion. She got 4 units of blood, so that seems to be getting better. Her pneumonia and chemo have not helped with all of this, but it is getting better.) The surgeon thinks they got 99% of the cancer during surgery. And she is so happy that the surgery is over!
3/2 Update – Katya says she is healing well now, and things are back on track with her treatment.
3/23 Update – Katya continues to heal well from the mastectomy. She still is dealing with pneumonia, but has oxygen at home, which is helping, and she will see a pulmonologist on 3/31. She will start 6 weeks of radiation therapy on Thursday (3/25).
3/29 Update – Katya’s incisions have separated in several spots, so she cannot proceed with radiation until they are healed. Her new date to begin is April 8.
2/19 – Pooky’s Girl requests prayers for Pooky, as he is going to have surgery to correct his deviated septum on 3/9. She is praying that the anesthesia works (he’s had problems with that in the past) and that it helps him breathe better and in turn helps his mental state.
3/16 Update – Pooky’s surgery went very well! He’s now adjusting to being able to really breathe for the first time in years. Pooky and Pooky’s Girl are very thankful for the many prayers sent on their behalf.
3/16 – Pollywog the ‘Ette requests prayers for “Thing From Snowy Mountain”. He sends thanks for the prayers for his mother’s recovery from Covid, and for him as he struggled against the people who wanted her to be left to die. Now he needs wisdom, strength, favor as he negotiates the bureaucracy that almost killed his Mom, and for financial provision to care for her.
3/24 – Cranford Pundit requests prayers for his long-time coworker and friend Pete, who was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer that spread to his liver. His cancer inoperable, but they are starting aggressive chemo the week of 3/29. While he will not be cured, please pray for the quality of his life, wisdom for him and for his wife, and for their two elementary-school-age children.
3/31 – Roxxee requests prayers for her daughter. She was on our prayer list at Christmastime, as she was in a deep psychosis then, but she did get treatment and was improving. Now she is backsliding again and has quit her job (which will cause her to lose her insurance). She will not listen to her doctors or Roxxee, and as she is an adult, there is nothing they can do. Roxxee requests prayers for her daughter to realize that her life is spinning out of control and she needs help, and for strength and peace for herself as she tries to cope.
4/5 – Captain Whitebread asks for prayers of healing for his sister, who has been diagnosed with diastolic heart failure, and prayers for strength for her and those who depend on her: her Mom (who is retired), her adult son (who is autistic and cannot work), her grand-niece who she is raising.

For Healing:
3/3 – FenelonSpoke requested prayers on Backwards Boy’s behalf. Backwards Gal is very ill and he doesn't think she'll live through the year. So prayers for a miracle of healing and that God surrounds them with grace and strength in whatever ways are needed.
3/3 – FenelonSpoke requested prayers for .....(ellipsis), who has been sick since the winter of 2020 and needs healing).
4/3 – My life is insanity asks for prayers for peace of mind and healing for her sister, who just learned that her breast cancer from 6 years ago has spread to her spine. She has a small tumor at the base of her neck and a fracture in her lower back. She is waiting on a treatment plan and is unsure at this time what that will bring.
4/12 – Slapweasel requests prayers for Jonathan the Bear, for his upcoming surgery, and for strength and recovery.

Romans 8:26-27:
[26] In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. [27] And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

Monday Who Dis: I can't provide links to the photos in the last rant because Pixy took the temporary server offline, but, as you all know, Monday's male 'who dis' is the King, Elvis Presley himself. The lady is actress Anne Helm, most of whose career was spent doing guest roles on various TV shows. But she did appear in a few movies, including Follow That Dream, in which she played Elvis' love interest. Supposedly, Ms. Helm and Elvis had a thing going offscreen, too, for awhile. If the Hollywood rumors are true, that is.

18 Okay, prayer mea culpa

Last week, the lovely Mrs Blake and I were in Prescott, AZ, for a family reunion. My SIL was suffering from lung cancer, and, due to COVID and other health issues, had not been able to receive chemo.

I knew about her illness, and offered prayers of comfort and some perfunctory prayers for healing, because I knew, just knew, healing wasn't in the cards. Even though my Pastor had warned, a while back, that prayers for healing should be just that. But, I knew better.

We received the news, while in Prescott, the latest scan showed my SIL to be cancer free. It was astonishing to stand next to a living breathing miracle.

Foolishness, thy face is a mirror. Praise be to GOD.

It depends on whom you believe. Manson didn't kill the Cielo Drive people, but there is strong evidence that he went to the house after the murders to "arrange" things.

iIt's the same principle as a contract killing, if you pay to have someone killed, then you're just as guilty as the one who pulls the trigger. If your actions directly and intentionally cause a premeditated murder to happen, you're guilty.

Jayne had kind of the same problem, being typecast as the blonde bombshell. Though I did see her in The Wayward Bus with Joan Collins, and while she was playing a very sexy woman, she played it straight, no giggling or baby talk or anything like that. Refreshing to see.

Joan was not a glamorous creature in that one either.

The Twitter video shows what an excellent job the Dems have done on their march through the institutions.

The black lady is, of course, correct. Even a cursory, high-level examination of US history reveals that the Democrats have been the Party of institutional racism for *hundreds* of years, and nothing has *ever* changed about that basic, core belief - only the tactical implementations of it.

It does not take a scholar to see this. Only someone remotely aware of their history, with an intellectual investment in learning something, anything, about the racial problems facing our country.

But Americans are ignorant and incurious by virtue of their educational institutions, conformist by nature of their cultural ones, and hateful of differing viewpoints by nature of our politics.

It took a lot of work in a lot of places to effectively erase and alter their own entire history in the minds of the broad mass of Americans, but the Dems pulled it off. It's impressive.

He did (sort of) have a point about getting ripped off by the Beach Boys, they did record one of his tunes without attribution. One of the best or at least most interesting reads about the dark side of the music scene was written by Dave McGowan "Laurel Canyon - the Strange but Mostly True Story" or somesuch. I went to a active shooter type security seminar once. They covered security in general, and one of his points was that people do lots of dumb things, in terms of personal security, just to keep things "normal".
One example was a woman who was on the ground floor of her building waiting to take the elevator up. Elevator did not go to the basement. Doors open, guy inside. She had a strong sense that this guy was going to hurt her, but she got on anyway because to do otherwise would have appeared that she was making a judgment against him based upon gender, perhaps race as well. He raped her.
The other example was how long the average person took to begin evacuating the WTC after it was hit by a freaking airplane. Most people waited 20 minutes.
I think this inability to respond rationally to a situation because many of us get handcuffed by a sense of propriety or normalcy plays out in societal trends as well. I have been going without a mask as often as possible but man am i aware of being the only person doing it in a room.

Depends on the state and its laws. The felony murder rule varies quite a bit from one extreme where even the getaway driver can be prosecuted for a murder even if the deceased was the actual criminal that was killed by police or others while attempting a murder. In other states, it depends on the degree and foreknowledge of the murder or likelihood that it will happen for an accomplice to be charged with murder. 4 States do not have a felony murder rule.

We watched the video from the cop's cam this morning. With perfect 20-20 hindsight, the cop should have put his pistol back in the holster, walked back to his cruiser, and called in the situation. And waited for back-up, or something. So what if they kill each other.
The "15 year old girl" was about 5-8" and 150-160 lb, and some other black guy was kicking another girl.
This was actually in kind of a nicer, newer subdivision neighborhood. This was not in some slum.

The girl with the knife that was shot, was in foster home care. Her bio-mom has showed up (and will probably sue the city for millions) and said her daughter was a kind, warm and caring kind of person.

She was in berserk, murderous rage, trying to kill at least two other girls with a knife.
It got cold, rained and snowed last night in Columbus, so that probably tamped down the expected fun and games from the Usual Suspects last night.

I found the .WAV file, converted it into an .OGG file in Reaper and emailed it to myself. Android phone recognized it instantly and I saved it on the list of ringtones.
I'd like to find the sound of The Addams Family mail call and use that for email, but can't seem to find it anywhere. Not sure if I can have a different tone for email on my phone or not.

You would be correct, it is very difficult to avoid getting cut by a knife in a close in fight. Even a person wielding a firearm within knife range can get killed by the stabber despite effectively giving fatal wounds to the stabber. The key to winning a knife fight is not to be in one in the first place. The second is distance. Knives are deadly weapons and treated as such under the law.

Deny police the ability to shot the stabber at a distance, you would effectively cause the police to not intervene and in this case two individuals might be killed or seriously injured.

The idea that tasers are magic weapons that can stop violent individuals without bloodshed is fantasy. They fail too, generally because the electrodes fail to implant enough to carry a charge and people have died being Tasered due to previous health conditions.

277 My son at one time really wanted to be a cop. He's in security for an outfit down in Nashville that provides muscle for various events. Not armed.

We've discussed the current situation and he still believes cops have a role to play, but the media, local government activists and BLM/Antifa have made it virtually impossible for LE to be effective. It will also get much worse.
