The Watering Down Of Tradition Is A Powerful Tool Of The Progressive Movement

From "Merry Christmas" to "Happy Holidays" seems like a small step, but it is a hugely significant one. The step from a clear recognition of a religious holiday for Christians has morphed into a generic salutation that is, on the face of it, intended to be more inclusive, but in reality is dismissive of 2,000 years of Christian faith and practice. Easter is no longer the celebration of Christ's resurrection; it is Easter eggs and chocolate bunnies and an excuse for employee-pricing sales at the local car dealership.

What is even worse is when the destruction of tradition comes from within. Last night was the first night of Passover, a hugely important Jewish holiday that traces its origins to the first century and Rabbi Gamaleiel II. Passover is at its simplest a time to remember 400 years of slavery at the hands of the Egyptian Pharaohs and our freeing from bondage by God.

Our freedom from bondage. Not Gypsies or Incas or Senegalese Muslims or Australian Aborigines or Huguenots. While there is room for the extrapolation of the Passover message of a desire for freedom to others, that is not its intended purpose. But there is a powerful faction within Judaism that wants to do exactly that, morph Judaism into some sort of universalist pablum fit for consumption everywhere.

Of course that leads ultimately to the destruction of Judaism as a religion, and the destruction of Jews as a people.

This quotation, from a rather disjointed and, frankly crappy Haggadah* (a written guide for the Seder) demonstrates it rather concisely.

On this Seder night we remember with tenderness the millions of our own people, and those of all nationalities and faiths, who only yesterday were mercilessly crushed by a tyrant more wicked than the Pharaoh who enslaved our fathers in Egypt. The blameless and the pure -- men, women, children -- did they annihilate in chambers of fire, factories of death. [Emphasis mine]
Of course we should recognize that Jewish suffering is not unique among nations, but the Holocaust was in fact unique, and extrapolating it to others does a disservice to all.

The Seder is a Jewish religious service. There is nothing untoward or disrespectful to recognize that and keep its focus on Judaism and the Jewish people. By including others in the recognition of the suffering of the past, the writers of this paragraph seek to expand Judaism into some twisted understanding of "Tikkun Olam," which is the Jewish concept of improving the world, but has been twisted by the progressives within Judaism to mean whatever they wish it to mean, as long as it waters down tradition and weakens the 3,000 year old bonds that have kept Judaism and Jews alive, against all nations and all odds.

They are globalists, and they seek to create one world, one mushy and watered down religion, and not a smidgen of individuality among its people.

So many outside agencies work against tradition.

It take a strong person/institution to withstand these attacks.

Yeah, the dilution of belief in everything but the state is constant.

On the Christian side of things, you'll often hear:

"Jesus was a great teacher." (usually before attributing something to Jesus that Jesus would never haver agreed with)

Well, yeah. But, if that was all he was, he'd basically be Socrates. And remembered that way.

"Jesus was a great teacher." is usually said in the same voice you'd say to a child, "Why yes, chocolate is a very good ice cream.. But, not the best. There are many good flavors just as good as chocolate."

30 Some Christian groups talk of Resurrection Sunday, since the term Easter itself sounds too much like facing East, maybe worshipping the rising sun, or whatever pagan god is appeased with very fertile bunnies.

"Easter" is used once in the KJV but I believe it is really the word for passover. Many Christians don't understand Jesus was our passover lamb (but had the princes of this world known the mystery of the one body, the spiritual new "church" ... they would not have crucified the "Lord of Glory".)

Too many believers complied, thinking that it would win the secularists over to pursue a knowledge of Christ. They chose...poorly.

Palm Sunday is the grimmest, most frightening Sunday in the liturgical calendar. All the statues (except the Stations of the Cross) and the Crucifix are covered. No Prayers Before the Altar in the Mass. No Credo. The very long Passion According to St. Matthew for the Gospel. I feel we're walking into the pit of Hell before the joy of Easter Sunday.

Happy Passover to our Jewish Hordians!

47 Another thing ... Jesus was dead for three days and three nights, died at sunset Wednesday, and rose at sunset on what we call Saturday night. Practicing Jews (maybe most Jews, idk) realize the olden "days" ended, and began at sunset, and the Sabbath is Saturday (begins Friday evening). ... "It is Finished" was at sunset (not sure why they did the "Good Friday" thing, except to better fit it into a weekend maybe - probably some pagan compromise on that as well, idk)

49 I have been objecting to the use of the word "holocaust" for anything other than the Holocaust for years. Well meaning people talk about the Holocaust of abortion. But they miss an important distinction: the women who abort their babies were not driven out of their houses by armed soldiers, then forced at gunpoint to abort their babies. (Unless, of course, you are referring to the forced abortions in China.) Yes, the mutual slaughter of the Hutus and Tutsis many years ago was horrible, but again does not meet the conditions of the Holocaust. The slaughters were sporadic rather than a nearly decade long constant. Not did either side make extermination of the other side a major goal of their governmants. Nor did either side deprive itself of major assets to kill each other the way the Nazis diverted much needed railroad cars to haul News to death camps. There are many other examples of attempted genocide that simply do not match the Holocaust.

CBD, I think you have a legitimate gripe about the watering down of Passover in order to deny the uniqueness of a specifically Jewish experience.

85 "Very easy to plug into whatever local tradition so the pagans would understand and accept Jesus and Christianity. --Smart marketing as it were." Posted by: naturalfake

A lot of the compromises, back to Council of Nicea, were indeed probably convenient "marketing" in pagan areas (though such "incrementalism" was perhaps evil in intent, on the spiritual level). Incremental change for a few hundred years, original texts are ignored or "redefined", and a lot of pagan traditions dominate.
... Gutenberg's press let a lot of people read on their own, thank God for the scribes' efforts to maintain copies of the texts, so there was still a path to "reformation".

This is completely wrong. The Romans weren't "racist" in our modern sense. They did draw a large distinction between citizens, slaves, and people not yet conquered. One of our most notable writers on the time period is a Roman citizen Jew - Josephus
And the undercurrent of the story of the crucifixion is that neither Pilate nor Herod wanted to execute Jesus - the former did it because the population demanded it.

Did this guy ever even read the Bible?!?

It certainly accelerated in the 1960s. But the degradation of Judaism began earlier, when the conflation of Judaism and political activism (socialism) took root in the urban Jewish psyche...and that began in the early part of last century.

Or one can argue that it began in the 18th century with the acceptance of progressivism as preferable to conservative (and often anti-Semitic) politcal philosophy.

well to the extent Jesus was confronting the evil of the world, it perhaps included those things. But to frame it in SJW terms diminishes the real sacrifice, and tries to make today's (mostly godless) SJWs as "saints". --

"For as by one man's (Adam's) disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one (Jesus obeying his Father, "not my will but Thine") shall many be made righteous." Romans 5 says this in multiple ways.

In Europe, the governments were usually tied to the Pope or to a Protestant King that kinda acted as if he was God's man. But that had its problems/wars as well. USA was rather unique in trying to carve out a bill of rights to allow man to serve God, "under" limited "secular" government. That too is failing, but we are not dependent on institutions to save us. ...

Even in the old testament, there was often only a "remnant" of true Israelites, sometimes having to hide in caves, even from their own brethren. ... Always a struggle, earthly institutions become corrupted.

170 Consider, if you will, Vatican II and the fallout therefrom. I went to Mass yesterday, and not the usual 1962 Missal, but the "current" Mass, because we cannot attend today and hear Mass in the Latin it should be. The translation of the Bible they use is so imprecise as to be meaningless, and the various prayers in English are so watered down that one cannot even tell what the originals might have meant. Don't get me started on the hand-holding during the Pater Noster, or the priest facing the congregation rather than praying for us to the Lord.

A faith diluted becomes no faith at all. There were no children at that Mass, whereas the Latin Mass usually has several families with up to nine kids in tow each. Which part of Catholicism do you suppose is dying?

The gist was there was some sort of issue long before that ship got "stuck." Pilot error, environmental (wind) or mechanical... who knows. The point was made that the Suez Canal administration apparently is incompetent.

187 "Of course we should recognize that Jewish suffering is not unique among nations, but the Holocaust was in fact unique, and extrapolating it to others does a disservice to all."

Here is the problem, if so then it cannot and should not be used in a generic way. And the other mass murder 'incidents' should be named besides it (like the Holodomor. Btw, I'm sure the Ukrainians have thought of their suffering as something unique). But that's not the way it has been used in my experience. It, and the accusation of anti-semitism, has always been used as generic. It is as if there never were marxist mass murders (We have an 'Holocaust denial' law in my country, Belgium. We don't have an 'Holodomor' denial law. Why bother, almost nobody remembers it anyway (/s)).

But it aren't German nazis who have 'marched through the institutions'. How can you fight the marxists if you can't name them and use THEIR crimes against them?

201 I am going to take exception with what CBD said in a narrow sense. The "Holocaust" was an organized effort by the Nazi regime to rid itself of "undesirable elements." The death toll was somewhere between 12 and 14 million people, depending on when you start counting organized murder. About 1/2 of the people murdered by the Nazis were Jewish. The other half were largely Slavs and other people the Germans found problematic.

The Seder is a unique expression of Jewish culture commemorating a unique Jewish event. But the "Holocaust" is certainly NOT a unique Jewish experience and millions of Poles, Russians, South Slavs, Romany and Jehovah's Witnesses can attest to that fact.

204 I am of two minds about adding various other genocides and exoduses to the Passover observance.

As our host points out, it does dilute Jewish identity.

But on the other hand, the history of Judaism since the destruction of the Temple has been the gradual, at times grudging, recognition that non-Jews matter. Acknowledging that other people suffer is a big step.

208 "Deride the "Jews for Jesus" organization as you wish, but let the record show that NO ONE does a better job of going into a Protestant Church, and teaching the meaning and nuances of Passover to the Gentiles who are grafted into the True Vine."

No one does a better job misrepresenting the meaning and nuances of Passover to Christians than Jews For Jesus, an evangelical Christian organization. Jews For Jesus ascribes christological meaning to the rituals and symbols established by the very rabbis that, as evangelical Christians, Jews for Jesus rejects. If you reject rabbinic Judaism (as is your right) because you are a Christian you can't then say that the three matzahs used at the seder symbolize the trinity as those three matzahs are only used because of the technicalities of rabbinic law.
It's as though I were to tell those Christians who take communion that the wine and wafers are not symbolic of the blood and body of Jesus but rather deeply infused with rabbinic teachins.
Simply put, Jews For Jesus is intellectually dishonest. The fact that some of them may have been born Jewish is no more a validation of their beliefs than Jewish marxists' ethnicity validates marxism.
