A Logical Flaw In Conservative Thought (And Open Thread)

The Left is not rational. They are not logical. They do not base their political philosophy on anything resembling the thinking skills developed over 2,500 years by the West.

It is dangerous to assume, even for a split second, that they base their actions on anything other than the raw emotion of class divisions and racial hatred and ethnic animosity and, quite simply, jealousy. Of everyone!

If we accept the left/right dichotomy, one thing that emerges is the fact that neither side is ever really satisfied. Nobody ever gets what they want, and everybody is always blaming the other side.

What if there aren't really two sides? Or to put it another way, what if the thing one has been fighting, in some cases, all one's life, is really an illusion? What if they want us fighting this fight, not for any reason other than it keeps us busy while they go about their business of achieving what they've always wanted? Which is not a smashing victory for "left" or "right," but the control over lives that has eluded them, even under their most successful regimes.

Without having read the book, based only on the topic and my knowledge of Os Guiness and the reviews (I'll explain in a moment), I want to recommend the book Last Call for Liberty.

Os Guiness is one of the greatest thinkers of our times, and is a brilliant analyst of history and culture. I recommend everything he has written, particularly his trilogy on modern church and Christian belief.

But this book is especialy timely (written 2 years ago) as it deals with exactly what we're facing now and the roots of it all.

The reviews were the clincher for me though, not because of the rave reviews by some, but because of this effect: everyone who is a hardcore leftist HAAAAATES this book and is angry at his writing. Its a clear divide. There are 35 reviews of it on Goodreads and 99% of them are either 5 stars or 1 star. And those 1 stars aren't based on "this was shoddy and stupid" but "WAAAAHHH I HATES HIM"

There was a big health case around the turn of the last century in the USA where Standard Oil got sued by workers who were getting massively sick and dying from the fumes in refineries where they leaded the gas. Turns out breathing lead wasn't healthy and the ventilation was ghastly to begin with.

I remember the lead in the gas actually building up along the sides of roads from car exhaust. It was great for engines but not so good for anything living.

To form a rich and diverse tapestry of thought and ideology.

The left has exactly three books The Prince, The Communist Manifesto and Alinsky's Rules for Radicals.

All producing one maxim, The only thing that matters is the pursuit f power, and all things are permissible to achieve that end.

And that's pretty much much why they have succeeded over the long run than conservatives.

It's easy to understand, per Alinsky, it's fun to implement and while conservatives are worrying about things like morality and proportionality, you're clubbing them over the head with a baseball bat.

Mrs. Loesch doesn't understand why, even though in truth it contains a laudable trait: the Right is too busy supporting civil society, such as churches, charities (that may or may not be connected to churches) and other causes to just give money to political causes. Conservatives see civil society just as important, if not more so, to prop up than political movements. But for the Left, politics is ALL they have. They HATE civil society, charity, and the like. Look at the footage from Powell's books in Portland, where Antifa was protesting the release of Andy Ngo's book. You can literally hear them yelling those words over and over after attacking a man and driving him away from a bookstore.

Slightly off topic, but I have always thought that if one is good at algebra, geometry will be tough (as a general rule) and the opposite is true. I struggled mightily in algebra but anytime I went into geometry, I was fine. (My reasoning for this also is that algebra is abstract whereas geometry is concrete, and I have always been a more concrete thinker anyway.)

Geometry was a huge struggle for me at first. I did very badly until I caught on to what it was doing and it became fascinating to me. I don't particularly enjoy math but the principles became dear to me. My IQ tested high as a kid, but my thoughts were scattered and unstructured. Geometry gave me that structure to formalize thought and direct it.

I have always sucked at math. But every time I ran into geometry in school, I did fine. (When you are told to calculate the area of a rectangle, you can SEE the rectangle, measure it, and run calculations. When playing pool, you can determine angles and act on them. Algebra: here, plot this line on a graph. "Why?" Just do it.)

The left sees money as a weapon and has no problem using it to get what they want, be that bullying corporations into toeing the line or funding local activists to do their bidding. The right seems to mostly see money as something to sit on and sensually caress, while telling Those Damn Kids(tm) to go get a soulless corporate job like they did and then go spend their paycheck at Amazon. They don't really even do much to teach the next generation of business leaders; that would be the leftist tech sector and its famous incubators.

Such complacency leads to the fall of empires, and it's little wonder that so many millennials are either full-bore socialists or hardcore Rand libertarians.

The cringe "We Believe" signs plastered in yards, which include such banal observations as "SCIENCE IS REAL" and end with "BE KIND TO ALL," would embarrass the most fundamentalist Muslim even if the terms were changed to something like "THE PROPHET IS AWESOME." I love these signs, though, because they advertise who is dangerous in the 'hood.

We are locked in an ideological war that will not be resolved at the ballot box and cannot be averted under the present system. It is a terrifying time.

That would require reason. In their fundamentalism, the Left doesn't think anything could happen to Obama because he has achieved perfection, as they have achieved perfection by recognizing this. There is no rationality involved here. None. It is why they assent to obvious lies and think it is truth because they have agreed to the premises. It never was whether Trump colluded with Russia, for example, but rather what beautiful people they were because they believed it.

Ah, but that will hurt them. Orwell knew the believes could evolve and change on a dime, but the eternal devil was the one constant needed. My biggest fear, and it very well may prove out, is that they make us a collective Trump after the real one exits stage left. The only thing that may prevent massive conflict is their attention spans, outside of hissing at a constant devil, are a nanosecond long since they believe in nothing other than their own virtue, no matter how that is defined at any given moment.
