12 Slightly Willowed:

So, I need to make a prayer request. My brother was admitted to the hospital over the weekend. It seems he's had some internal bleeding along with some other self-induced issues. The initial tests revealed some significant ulcers on his esophagus and a possible tumor. They've played hell trying to get his blood numbers corrected and he required a transfusion Saturday due to the blood loss. They're not 100% sure where the blood is coming from, but the upper GI and CT scans didn't reveal anything definitive.

He had a biopsy and scope this morning and we're waiting on the results from that. He ate solid food today, which had a bit of a negative reaction, but was short term. They need him to poop to see if there's blood to see if they need to do a lower scope.

Initial reaction from the esophagus was not thrilling as the Dr. said the tumor has them concerned.

All this a day after he found out he'd finally got a job after 4 months of 'funemployment.'

The Enforcement Bureau (Bureau) of the Federal Communications Commission issues this Enforcement Advisory to remind licensees in the Amateur Radio Service, as well as licensees and operators in the Personal Radio Services, that the Commission prohibits the use of radios in those services to commit or facilitate criminal acts.

The Bureau has become aware of discussions on social media platforms suggesting that certain radio services regulated by the Commission may be an alternative to social media platforms for groups to communicate and coordinate future activities. The Bureau recognizes that these services can be used for a wide range of permitted purposes, including speech that is protected under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Amateur and Personal Radio Services, however, may not be used to commit or facilitate crimes.

Specifically, the Bureau reminds amateur licensees that they are prohibited from transmitting "communications intended to facilitate a criminal act" or "messages encoded for the purpose of obscuring their meaning."

I've been thinking about this a bit.

Trump's greatest strength is that he was a businessman.
In business, you get things done or, you know, "You're fired."

Trump's greatest weakness is that he was a businessman.
The expectation in business is that you will do your job to the best of your ability and that is how you succeed.
In politics, it's something akin to "get in line, follow the guy who's been in line longer than you, hold out your rice bowl and eventually you'll get bigger and bigger portions", but "if you don't follow the orders of the rice givers, you can get kicked out of line forever"
Trump hire's were never his men or women except of a few.
He would've done much better to have brought in his own people in managerial positions and run the whole thing like a business. Politicians are all shitweasels.

Most of his famous quotes go directly against the current leftist narrative. I'm sure they'll just continue to bury those while elevating him to Saint like status. Just like nobody on the left seems aware that Cesar Chavez was anti illegal and pro border. Some of the left's best work is eradication of history, especially their own.

Back in the 80's, Letterman was actually funny but it was always because of whoever he was talking to. I remember one interview with this old Mexican guy, who had invented this little alarm bell that could be activated inside of the coffin, in case one was buried alive. Letterman asked him why he did this, and the guy said he came up with it after the second time he was buried alive. And Letterman was like "so, you didn't think of this after the FIRST time you were buried alive?"

It's actually hard to find a copy of ET that has the walkie talkies instead of the shotguns.

Spielberg immediately regretted that bit of tweaking, and the shotgun has been the default for most home video releases. The UHD I have uses the shotguns with no sign of the walkies.

350 Perfect example of a good movie to remake: Judge Dredd. Campy and bad but entertaining - can, and was, done better as a straight action movie.
Posted by: Broseidon at January 18, 2021 01:02 PM (icI8A)

I think in the case of Dredd, the fact it existed long before the movies as a comic helped. A lot of material and canon to draw from. Robocop on the other hand had perfect timing, and tapped into a zeitgeist of the time. Or heck, Escape from NY, Running Man, Die Hard, any number of 80's & 90's flicks that were actually creative and pitch-perfect.

I just watched They Live last night, forgot how good it is, all the way up until it sort of falls apart at the end. It's also funny and quaint to see the dystopian futures of cops run amuck and cities/people in squalor. Thinking how nice and clean and organized it all seems.

359 I am not aware that SS protection for former presidents has anything to do with impeachment/conviction. Would be insane if it did. The protection is based either on statute or EO, I don't remember. Pretty sure it doesn't change if a president is removed from office.

Security clearance for elected principals like the president is automatic, but I don't think it carries on after office. For years, there was an informal policy of informing living former presidents of US military action just before it was taken. This was done in a secure manner, so I think former presidents at least have access to confidential info/manner of receiving it. But they're not on any distribution for it, day to day.

But he seems to be doing it (or his deep state handlers are). As I've said countless times, Joe is going to do the dementia paranoia thing. If his handlers are paranoid (ie. 25k troops in DC) then who knows what crazy we're going to see unfold. That's why they'll need to ditch him, because soon enough it's going to be the people closest to him. Hunter will be waiting in the wings to kill him and ascend to the throne, Jill will be x-raying him through the ceiling and selling the x-rays to the Russians.

If the military actually lets the FBI call the shots regarding "vetting" of the troops, things should get real interesting. Is this really the road they want to go down? I fucking hope so. Let's start this rodeo.

He's kind of the anti-Obama. The more coverage he got in the news, the less people liked him because they liked the concept of "Cool Historic First Black President" a lot more than the obnoxious, egotistical blowhard reality. The less Trump is bashed in the press, the more people like him because they basically agree with what he said and did, but were convinced he was terrible anyway by the establishment.

A LOT of people on our side are deeply committed to the notion of rule-of-law. It's practically in our DNA, and I understood why many would refuse to accept the idea that it's been completely disassembled and removed from American life. And I think that led many to look for bright spots in places where there were none.

But for that guy, it became bitterly personal, and directed toward people who had as little control over these events as he did, or any of us did. I hope the experience of being both wrong and a total bastard to everyone about it makes him more patient with people, if he ever does come back.

386 Related to nothing, I've become interested in Bobby Fischer. I don't play chess but his story and eccentricity intrigue me. I was watching an old clip of his interview by Mike Wallace and was struck by how Wallace seemed to be trying to hurt him, stick it to him. There was absolutely zero curiosity or empathy in his approach. How odd, as Fischer was clearly a soul who provoked curiosity. Meanwhile, Fischer was just trying to answer questions honestly and decently. There was even a kind of oddball sweetness to him.

It occurred to me, in general, how much the media hates differentness, unorthodoxy, and must find some way to de-normalize and embarrass it. To find a way to remove all its complexity and then subtly label it as anti-social. They seem threatened by what they cannot understand.

LOL. RM is too much of a cult film though. The left would want to remake something that they can rape us with. Classics. Just like they've started on Doctor Who, 007, Star Trek, Star Wars...

And they've started with the horrific live versions of Disney classics. Pinocchio wants to be a real girl! Snow White gets a magical kiss from the Princess! Wizard of Oz could be a clusterfuck, but they can only go back so far. A lot of classics aren't for the majority of the population. Us 29ers are probably safe. All they'll do with our most beloved films is erase them from history.

425 So I'm wrong, benefits post-presidency *can* be denied, per the statute Grump quoted? That's fairly shocking. Post-presidency protection and certain perks had been customary for decades, and I don't think even the concept of a punitive denial of benefits arose prior to today's pathetic conditions. Must be discretionary, and probably based on threat assessment and practical considerations, not impeachment or the like. If a former prez decided to live outside the US, the burden of protection could be seen as excessive, and denied or limited, I would think. But that would be discretionary.

No surprise. It's just the beginning and they'll see just how far they can take it.

These criminals can't legitimately win, so they have decided they will take what they want, however they want, and dare any of us to do anything about. They do not work within the confines of legitimacy. Therefore, the only way to get rid of all non-hard leftist judges, and in particular all the ones Trump has appointed, is to dump it all over and remake it into what they want. Again, who will stop them? We either secede or we bow down. They will not stop.

I was no fan of Mike Wallace at all but Bobby Fischer was very weird.

486 I started re-watching season 1 and I have to say, I think most new episodes are just footage from old episodes spliced together.

That would save some money.

487 BREAKING: Democrats are considering dissolving the current federal circuit courts and thereby dismissing all current federal judges. The plan is to create newly revamped circuits filled exclusively with Biden appointed judges.

Somebody seems convinced they'll never, ever relinquish power again. And the sad part is, even IF somehow the republicans got back in power again, they'd never do anything about it. They'd let it stand, and fight anybody that dared consider reversing it.

488 Can the legislative and executive just eliminate the judicial?
Posted by: rickb223 at January 18, 2021 01:26 PM (CigxG)

Only the supreme court is explicitly spelled out in the constitution.

Posted by: Inogame - Trump won at January 18, 2021 01:34 PM (Dt9WM)

489 Of course Congress' power with respect to defining and limiting jurisdiction of the courts it created has been flouted in the current festival of judicial lawlessness, just to emphasize how collapsed Congress is in terms of its intended constitutional role.

A fairly important asylum case, the "ruling" involved elements from which the courts were expressly denied jurisdiction (basically, second-guessing any policy elements, which seems like it shouldn't even have to specified, but there we are). But a judge did it anyway!

Pretty much pure, histrionic law-breaking by a court.

Of course, the dictatorial Trump regime meekly complied (while appealing with high probability of prevailing), and Congress said bupkis. Do *not* expect to see even outlandishly dubious acts by the new "administration" blocked or slowed by such judicial moves.

Practice, lots of practice. There's entire YT channels dedicated to this stuff. Yeah, I tried the bumplock thing with little success. But the locksmith I use can open anything in the blink of an eye. There's one guy on YT, I think he's called the lockpicking lawyer - people send stuff in for him to pick. He's got a stopwatch and shows how it's done.

My locksmith guy is really down on how bad some house locks have gotten lately. He loves showing me the difference on old and new stuff. They're just getting cheap and lazy. And showed me one of my tenants changed out the door locks on my condo to some sort of horrific Kwikset thing that you're supposed to be able to re-key yourself. Any idiot with the little tool can be inside in seconds.
